I have been a patient of Dr Whitten for many years. I first selected him to perform my Lasik based on his record of success. It didn't hurt that many famous sports celebrities and TV personalities also chose Dr Whitten. The process was efficient and mostly painless and the LASIK surgery was a success. Years later I came back for the Raindrop procedure to improve my reading vision. Again it was very successful and only required one later tweak to get me back to 20/20 vision. Dr Whitten obviously cares about his patients and likes his job. He also gives military discounts!

And I was right. But since I was persistent one of them put me on 20 minutes hold to think about my behavior. And then - believe or not, but some Associate , as I later learn her name was Katlyn, started talking to me and was so nice and empathetic and apologetic, that I almost had tears in my eyes, thinking how nice that we still have Associates in the most difficult area - medicine - like Katlyn.

They tell me a week prior that they called & someone confirmed the appointment time change. Mind you, I take care of all appointments & did not receive a phone call at all. So I ask the receptionist who she spoke with, she can't give me a name or anything. I ask to speak with the office manager, I tell the office manager my dilemma, she repeats saying they spoke with someone a week prior to confirm the appointment & reads back a phone number that isn't mine, a phone number that we haven't used in over 12 years & there's no way I ever wrote that phone number down for any of the new patient paperwork because that number was my father's that he got rid of like I said, over 12 years ago, so I have NO IDEA who they spoke to, to confirm my son's appointment because it wasn't me, his mother, nor his father. So now a STRANGER has my son's first & last name & the date & time of where he's going to be. The office manager keeps telling me that someone confirmed it, but couldn't tell me who. I'm standing there telling her that you spoke to a stranger about my son's personal information. All they could say was the appointment has been pushed back & I could keep it if I would like to. I don't care about the appointment, I care about the fact that this office has breached the safety of my child & his protected information. I asked the office manager for someone higher than her, she decides to give me the wrong number so I had to Google who oversees the facilities to call & make a complaint. I have escalated this issue as high as I could possibly take it. They need to fire everyone in that office because it's nothing, but the most incompetent people that don't understand HIPAA compliance. As someone who also works in healthcare, I'm disgusted with the way the office handled that situation. Luckily, I was able to get my children out of there & somewhere that actually cares about their safety. & what's even worse is that I have had so many people tell me like experiences. Awful, just awful.

I was stuttering in his office which I have never done in my life and treated like it was nothing even with elevated seizure med levels in toxic range. High blood pressure and such. I'll will do the test because they need to be done, wait for answers then I'm moving on to someone else. Just fyi I been epileptic since I was 2 so I know a lot and even though he knew I had them that long treated me like I didn't know anything and questioned everything I said which was hard enough to get the words out. The office staff was a lot nicer than he was. At least she could make me smile after being done with his brashness and lack of bedside manner. Update: I have learned he has a nurse practitioner. However I can't meet her till the follow up with him. Makes no sense but I'll go with the flow for now since there is No other neurologist taking patients in area and some are retiring. However the tech for my appointment today (6/20/24) for eeg was very sweet. So I guess I will wait and meet the nurse practitioner . So far, from what I have seen in distance, she seems very sweet and I've heard she is much better. Will update after I meet her in a month.

What's concerning is that this only happened after I specifically asked them to review my scans again. Had I not pushed for a second review, I genuinely worry they may have proceeded with surgery despite the risks. I also requested a direct explanation from the doctor and never received one. Instead, I had to repeatedly call the office just to get basic answers and speak with someone knowledgeable. My impression is that the process felt far more focused on moving patients through surgery than on patient safety and communication. I would strongly encourage anyone considering a procedure here to ask detailed questions, seek a second opinion, and carefully review whether they are truly a good candidate before moving forward. I also felt the recovery expectations were presented in a way that understated how difficult and lengthy recovery can actually be.
