Carne Asada bought at Whittier Market. Sooo tender mmmmm.
    james B.

Top notch premium Carne Asada meat. Hands down the most tender, flavorful Asada that makes you say mmmm between each bite. It's so good I drove all the way from Whittier just to buy this stuff. The cost per pound at the time of this review was $11.99 but all great things come at a price. Be sure to have them marinade the meat before they bag it up. I also bought Chorizo which was a big hit, but the Asada is the big winner here. Note: You have to swing over three blocks to buy East L.A's freshest tortillas that go amazingly well with this type of meat. Tortilla place is called Miramar Tortilleria on Union Pacific Ave. You have to ask the owner for fresh tortillas and he'll go in the back to get you a freshly made bag for $3. Just make the drive, buy the Carne Asada and enjoy one of the best things East L.A has to offer. Parking lot is located to the side of the business off Whittier Blvd.

Found this market through Yelp and since we were already in the area, we decided to stop and buy some meat based on the reviews. There was a line to enter and that was because of COVID-19 and practicing social distancing. We only waited about 15 minutes in line. But once you enter, you need pull a number for the carniceria, so another wait but the line went pretty fast. We ordered asada and chicken. Both were really delicious, tender and had great flavor. Based on other reviews, you must get there early especially on holidays or expect to wait an hour plus. One more recommendation, use mesquite when grilling and buy yellow corn tortillas. The tacos will taste so MUCH BETTER.

Best seasoned carne and chicken! We travel 20 miles to get our meat here. We get compliments at every BBQ we have when we make this meat.

Everything is always top quality and the customer service is by far some of the best I have had at a butcher. Their recommendation are always on point and they even will provide you ice packs on request for your freezer bag if you are going to be doing some shopping or have a decent drive back home. I love that they are well knowledgeable about all the products and take the time if you ask to explain the differences in the meats and how they should be cooked for the best experience. If you are ever by the grove or farmers market ask for Brandon (likes to go by B) or Byron they are always willing to help and make sure you are more than satisfied with your purchase. The great thing about them is that they are father (Byron) and son (Brandon) which means they are passing down the skill set and knowledge regarding butchery and meats. If you are in the area or have the means to travel I definitely recommend supporting this establishment at least for your ultra premium, exotic, or seasonal meats.

It's hard find a good butcher. Some are cuisine specific (kosher? halal?), small neighborhood shop or a big butcher like Huntington Meats. Superb quality of items (beef, poultry, oxtails, lamb, pork, etc.) Knowledgeable and friendly staff. It seems like the shop had always been around. Like meatloaf? Hate making meatloaf? Buy a pound or three of raw house-made meatloaf ready to take home and bake! Thinking about grilling some great burgers. Then I had to pry and figure out where he bought them. The first time I looked for the stand, I couldn't find it and gave up. The second time, I figured it out and it's to the right of the second fruit and veggie stand when you walk in (which has really good produce actually). I've bought maybe half of their stuff here. My favorites are as follows: The prime bone in ribeye is the best thing they have here. It's better than A LOT of restaurants. The cow is from California and it's all that special stuff that you want in a quality piece of meat. Next is the veal chop. Then it's the Niman ranch pork chop. After that it's the breakfast sausages, then it's the bacon. The taste on these items are absolutely insane. I think it's one of the things that got me back into cooking, because you can buy a quality restaurant tier pork chop for $12.99 a pound, and you don't have to go drop over $50 (maybe even $60 or $70 now from inflation) for the same type of pork chop at a restaurant. For the non Japanese Wagyu cuts, I personally don't like the flavor as much. But that's a personal preference. Some people love non Japanese Wagyu over prime but I don't. Anyway here's some pictures of the meat. Oh yeah the service is really good and the ambiance is nice because you're at the farmer's market! You can also ask a bunch of questions and they're all pretty much meat experts here.
