But when I went to scope out the area for a birthday party we considered having here we noticed the bathrooms were closed and there were three homeless people laying around the park. (Which is a very small park to begin with) I called the city of whittier and spoke to a lady in the parks and rec division, after I told her my plans she said the bathrooms are not open on a consistent basis, and that it depends on the amount of vandalism and homeless situation that is happening. She pretty much said there is nothing she can do. She was pretty rude. I would suggest that if you invest a lot of money in redoing the park and giving it a facelift, then At least try to fix the issues happening that are deterring community members from enjoying the facility.

Attended a pre-4th of July celebration with my family…read more This annual event draws thousands of visitors for a fun-filled day of food booths, food trucks, live music, vendors, giant TVs showing sporting events, gift giveaways, and a fireworks display that lasts over 20 minutes at 9:00 pm This year, the celebration was especially meaningful as we marked the USA's 250th birthday with a military plane flyover. It was truly awesome, and the crowd's response as the planes flew overhead showed how united we all felt. Whittier Police officers and a private security company provided high-visibility security to ensure everyone felt safe. Great job! The organizers did a FANTASTIC job -- the event was well organized, fun, and very well attended.

I had my lawn chairs, blankets, snacks, and my best friends, because when I hear "Beatles cover band," I know better than to show up late. I needed good parking AND good seats, and I managed to get both!We settled in and had ourselves an amazing afternoon. But let me tell you... as the concert got closer, that little park became PACKED TO THE GILLS! I honestly have no idea where everybody parked. People just kept coming and coming until there were people everywhere. It was such a great atmosphere, and everyone was there to have a GOOD TIME!There were also some really nice touches that made the whole event even better. Cane's chicken was there giving gifts if you win a frisbee tops and if you lose free lemonade and iced tea, which was perfect on a warm summer evening. There was a pastry vendor, food trucks, and what I believe were a couple of Salt & Pepper food trucks. There were also portable bathrooms that were surprisingly very clean, along with a handwashing station.And I have to give a shout-out to Parks & Recreation because they were on top of the trash situation! They were constantly emptying and cleaning the trash cans -- it seemed like every 20 minutes. I really appreciated that because, of course, we somehow ended up sitting right next to a trash can. But honestly, it was convenient, and with THAT many people packed into the park, keeping things clean is no small job! And then came the MUSIC! The Beatles cover band was exactly why I made the drive, and they did not disappoint. There is something about hearing those classic songs outside, surrounded by a huge crowd of people singing along, that just makes for an unforgettable night.I can't even tell you how many people were there, but WHITTIER SHOWED UP! That park was FULL! If you haven't made it out to one of these concerts yet, NEXT MONDAY IS SELENA! So pack up your lawn chairs, grab your blankets, bring some snacks or a little spending money, and COME PREPARED TO HAVE A GOOD TIME!Whittier knows how to throw down! This little park is a gem in the middle of a busy area of the city. The park has a lot of trees for natural shade and the plants and grass are well maintained. This is the perfect park to come jog, walk, have a picnic at, bring the doggies to, or to let your kiddos run around at. It's got no bathrooms, or play area, but I suppose that may be because it's where two cemeteries were? I enjoy coming here almost daily for a walk or a run and the community is very lucky to have something like this so close by.

Whittier is just a drama-free kind of place most of the time, so I doubt the ghosts of Jonathan Bailey and all the other early Whittier residents are haunting anybody, and even if they were, they'd probably just point out that your shoe is untied or that those illegal fireworks you're setting off cause anxiety in pets. Most of the founders of Whittier were Quakers, after all, and most Quakers I've known aren't into scaring people. The grass is gorgeous, and there are convenient curvy paved paths along which to meander. There aren't any hills, and the trees are pretty sparse, so if you come here in the middle of the summer, snag a shady area under a tree; you're going to need it right quick. There's plenty of street parking around (and through) the park, and it's just a really nice, quiet place to enjoy the oldish (for Southern California) neighborhood architecture and palm trees.
