I came here with hunger and a choice. Pizza or the salad bar. In all honesty, the pizza seemed like it had been sitting for several hours which was discouraging because I probably would have gone for a couple of regular cheese slices. The salad bar though did seem fresh and even more appealing. So I cobbled together a salad filled with tomato slices, green beans, kidney beans, and some shredded parmesan cheese. While I was here I also got a gallon of organic milk, a couple of Harmless Harvest coconut water juices, and a container of prepared macaroni salad. I think I've been to this store once before, and it does seem a little smaller than their other stores, but they had everything that I needed and then some! This WholeFoods sales about to expire products like meat cuts, seafood, etc. among other things at a good discount through an App called "Too Good to go: end food waste". I've been with this app for about a month now and I've only been able to buy meat once, now everytime I try to buy a "surprise bag" with meat I can never get to buy it anymore. They always send me a daily notification at 9:16 and 9:18 pm sharp but no matter how fast I try to buy, the food is sold out. I mean, I'm waiting with the app open at 9 9:16 and the food is gone before I have a chance to buy it. I've heard that there are "bots" that someone can attach to a particular page along with the CC information so no one has a chance to buy anything before. I contacted the App but they pretty much refused to follow up on this situation. Is there any other avenue where I can submit a formal complaint for this type of unfair practice?. Just wondering. This is a huge location, but parking lot is limited and sometimes you have to wait for someone to leave and then get a spot. The fresh vegetables are very inviting. Cheese isle wasn't that awesome but the meat section was well packed. Customer service was great, every person we'd ask for help was very respectful and knowledgeable. The way I was treated by the store manager still has me heartbroken and angry at the same time; The staff member at the coffee bar told me that I needed to purchase the Uber gift card at a regular register. I paid for my iced coffee then stood in line at a regular register. The cashier asked me how much I wanted on the card; I replied $100. After several attempts at trying to ring it up without any luck, he told me to go to customer service. While waiting in the customer service line, the store manager comes up and says I need to purchase that at a regular register and not customer service. I showed him the cashier who told me to go to customer service. We both walked over to the register and he asked me for my ID and then analyzed my credit card to see that they matched!!! I was humiliated and embarrassed SO MUCH that I started crying and said: I have NEVER been asked to show ID to buy a gift card! I have never been required to verify the credit card was indeed mine! He said that was their policy for gift cards over $100... since when??? The store owner really should look at the store cameras for February 5th so they can see how awful I was treated by the tall bald-headed manager! I went back to the coffee bar and the kind staff member asked me what's wrong but I was so distraught, I couldn't clearly say... It used to be one of my favorite grocery store. But now after Amazon acquired it, it's just Bad. First of all, now I see GMO produce on the shelves, which wasn't the case before, but the worst part it, I had twice food poisoned with their food. First, I made some mushrooms bought from them and got food poisoned, and recently I got food poisoned from an empada that was on sale which probably meant it was old. Both times pretty bad intoxication!!! I've decided I'm not going there any longer, they just Suck... Terrible past experience! read more

Perfectly fine and normal Whole Foods. Workers are generally helpful. It's under construction right now which makes navigating and finding things kind of weird. Prices are a bit high which everyone knows. I love the quality and selection though. Not enough local coffee beans stocked here though. But I just go after movies at the AFI theater to fill in the gaps from what Trader Joes didn't have on my grocery list. One time, an employee working the register didn't subtract any weight for the jar I used on the pay-by-weight peanut butter, so I definitely paid extra, but that's a small gripe. Another time, I had to coach the employee through making sure the 50% off coupons were applied to both fresh items I had even though they had large yellow stickers on them. I've had the Giant down the street recommended to me, so I should see how it compares. read more

This morning I couldn't find cupcake tin liners and asked a clerk in that aisle who didn't know whether the store carried them so I went to their customer service desk and asked two young woman standing there (who looked completely bored yet bothered and annoyed by me interrupting their boredom). They obviously had no knowledge of the store's stock and one of them said "if we had them they would be in the baking aisle." No warm "how can I help you," no smiles, no offers to help me search. Is this Whole Foods definition of customer service? Is this all the store manager expects of the store's employees? Sad. Also: I noticed that the store managers only respond to good reviews on here. This shows how little they care about customer satisfaction. Thanks half decade of Pandemic shop from home. Nearly 6 years later and this whole foods is somehow worse than ever. roast beef with truffle sandwich had silver of roast beef and american cheese. I wouldn't be shocked if turns out eh staff are sleling the good stuff in the store and swapping crap where they can for customers. Im not talking one random sandwich. I have placed many orders becaus eno car and great benefits via amazon. But clearly this location is garbage and should be overhauled. Kristin is racist and does not know store policy. She needs to be fired. She accused me of couponing fraud, she said I had printed a copy of a coupon, I explained I did not, that the manufacturer sent me the coupon for printing (I coupon professionally and keep up to date with laws and store policies), and as I verbatim was saying "that's a huge and disrespectful accusation, couponing fraud is illegal and is actually a felo-" she walked away and pretended to be working, not even dressed in work attire like a smock and name badge. On top of this, every time I have come by the past month the dairy section has had handfuls of items expired. I have reported it, I've seen others report it. While all of my experiences had been positives ones in the past, I did have a slight mishap with my pickup order last night. I placed my order through the app/Amazon and selected the last pickup window of 8pm-9pm early that morning. At exactly 7:35pm I received a text message saying, "We are running behind preparing your order. Please wait for your 'order is ready' notification to plan your trip to the store." I decided to take a nap and wait for the message letting me know I could make my way to the store. 8pm had come and gone as did 8:30pm so I called Amazon first looking for some assistance because I did not want to miss my pickup window and have my order cancelled. Amazon was no help and instructed me to call the store. When I called the store and was transferred to the department that handles pickup orders, they weren't any help either and it became a blame game between Amazon and Whole Foods. I called again and was thankfully transferred to someone other than whomever I'd spoken to before and I was told my order was there but still not ready and there were two orders ahead of mine. At 9:13pm I finally received the text messages that my order was ready and was already making my way to the store per the suggestion of the employee I spoke with last...mind you they close at 10pm. When I tried to check in, the app said the store was closed so I had to call the store again to let them know I was there. It wasn't long before someone came outside with my order but what an experience this all was! I now know not to select the last pickup window because if they get behind, you run the risk of not getting your order. I'd selected the 8pm-9pm pickup window for a reason and hadn't considered what would happen if they got behind with orders. I won't be doing that again. read more

Store was clean. Only staff presence I noticed in the customer facing spaces were stocking shelves and replenishing food bars, which is much appreciated. But not a great experience overall when paired with an overly vigilant security guard racially profiling me while using self checkout to purchase items from the food bar. No matter the current company situation regarding theft prevention should security guards be hovering over/around customers making them feel uncomfortable. To cap it all off the hot bar food was not good. Chicken and rice with little flavor and questionable texture likely frozen. read more

Always crowded at the parking and inside the store. This location is relatively small so less selections of food and health items. Staff are pretty nice and helpful. But, last time i went to the coffee bar, the register broke and made me a wait over 10 min. Still the machine wasn't working so I left some cash and overpaid to save my time The coffee was okay nothing special. The eat-in space isn't that bad but pretty small and dirty as people leave their foods after eating. There is a plant-based burger bar, and the service is quick. Being an avid "Juicer" & "Juice Head".....Whole Foods has become one of my go-to stores for fresh fruits, veggies, & greens......I Safeway/Giant the rest! This Whole Foods is not your ordinary grocery store. It is a hip, more open store floor plan and market that caters to everything the "casual health nut shopper"...like myself....and "commuter working professional" would want. The layout is much smaller than most Whole Foods stores I frequent around DC, but this location stays true to the WF brand in their offerings and even more! There is a bar located within the store that would certainly come in handy and ease your woes from the sticker price tag shock of some items you buy here. It's all good though, because a place like this comes in handy when needing to get " boozed-up" on the go and/or wait out the horrible DC rush hour traffic which is a love-hate relationship in itself. Not to mention, comes in handy when looking to get a grocery run done quick before heading home! I really dig this location. Not to mention the selection of produce was huge and really fresh. I can attest that the produce is much better and minimally processed than most grocery stores in the area. Heck, the beets and carrots were so fresh...that they looked like they were just plucked out of my backyard and were still covered in dirt! Talk about farm to table....Way to go Whole Foods. lol At this locations, there's also a huge hot food/salad bar area; including cheese market, butcher, deli, seafood market and bakery. There is also a Noodle Bar, Coffee Shop, and Smoothie/Juice/Kombucha Bar which is really cool. The customer service is very good too and the staff always seem eager to help. The only challenge with this store is that it can get crowded and the cashier lines are long, but they move fast. In all, one of the best places for good produce and an excellent selection of grocery items. Go & enjoy yourself at this location...the noodle bar and coffee shop is worth it alone. The produce selection is expansive and the grocery selections change often with the season....which is always a plus. Whole Foods may not be the cheapest, but I respect their game for providing quality products and carving out their own niche market that cater's those in search of clean eats or meeting special dietary needs. read more

That Whole Foods Silver Spring has been going from bad to worse these past 3 years, and the pandemic can't be blamed forever. Lobsters and Salmon were on sale -I took photos- but that store didn't have any Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. They now have only 2 checkout open at noon, on Saturday & Sunday. When Daniel is on duty at the service desk, he will do his best to help out, by calling some customers & check them out, but he is the ONLY one. They are now selling strawberries that taste like water. The same goes for the cherries, with the bonus of finding more rotten cherries in the bag than good ones, and they NO longer sell spinach bunch in that store. When you add the horrible customer service or lack there of, even Safeway next door as better quality now, but Silver Spring best is now...Giant. So SAD! read more

I like coming to whole foods but this location has gone downhill. Whole foods sells some international supplies, fair trade items, and minimally processed items that I can't find at other grocery stores so I appreciate that aspect of it. It has the potential to be an excellent grocery store with plenty of different bars-a hot bar, pizza bar, burger bar, salad bar, noodle bar, juice bars, etc but I'm not sure if I can trust the hot bar. I usually come here to get milk and a few key staples and "stick to the plan." When I walk past the hot bar, it seems like they have similar things from the day before. When I was in grad school, I used to eat at the foggy bottom whole foods hot bar all the time and never questioned the food. Every Whole Foods is usually a frenzy, but it's supposed to be a manageable frenzy. I'm not sure what happened but what threw me off is when I purchased scones to bring to a friend's place for dessert, I came home and saw that the scones had mold. I was surprised and think they should be careful with the items they put out for people. In general the quality seems to have gone down at this store through the years. I recommend double checking the items that you buy and not being as blind as I was. read more

Recently, we saw a rodent inside the store. Specifically in the aisle where the soap was stocked at. This caught us off guard as we were unsure whether it would impact the quality of the food here. As such, we walked out of the store without making our purchase. We were quite disappointed as we normally shop here. However, this recent discovery made us think twice coming here. This location is always crazy busy. It's hard to even find a parking spot at times. Once inside it's a little confusing where all the people have gone. I haven't had any issue with waiting too long in lines or out of stock items. Over all this is a typical Whole Foods. I come here mostly for vegetarian and vegan items that I can't get delivered through my normal service. Today was no exception. This location use to have several restaurants inside but during my recent visit during Covid the only one open was PLNT Burger (which is great!). The only issue I had with Whole Foods today was those who just want PLNT Burger have to wait an the line with everyone else- even if you're picking up. I found that to be frustrating but maybe there's not another way to make sure people are shopping? I don't know but figuring that out would've been a 5 star experience read more

As I've always suspected there's no one supervising the hot foods bar. It was a bit improved during covid but after the restrictions were lifted seems like management has reverted back to old ways. I'm not going to pay higher than normal prices for food that has been contaminated. Yesterday i literally saw a man come off the street (possibly homeless) and use his bare filthy hands to pick and choose food in the hot bar. No tongs or no gloves. Why is it so hard to keep it sanitary or make it difficult for people to contaminate your food? There's literally no one ever supervising or monitoring that area. read more

Love Whole Foods but this location is explained by a -_- face. I will still come here at off peak hours (aka NOT during peak lunch and after work 5-7:30 pm). The lines can be huge around then, not enough space in the store (hello cart wars), and you can be stuck in the parking lot. Largely inconvenient for a grocery store that caters to more higher end needs. Bakery often has old or not so aesthetically pleasing products. Eg found cake with chunk of mold so make sure you look carefully. Produce is sometimes under stocked. I do however find some very fresh seafood here! The shrimp has always been a go to for full flavor and freshness! I will still come here when I need to and the staff have always been super nice and helpful. Just wish this WF was up to par like the rest of them!! Tips: don't bother w the parking lot during peak hours. As others have mentioned, head over to the parking garage. read more

I like this Whole Foods because of its convenience and hugeness, but the dedicated parking lot can get hectic. Luckily there are two entrances to the store! If you're able to walk a little distance, park at one of the two large garages in downtown Silver Spring and walk over instead of having to deal with the chaos of Whole Foods' parking lot. The express checkout line can seem daunting with the large number waiting in line, but that line goes fast. You could try to do the math and see how many express checkouts are open, how many are waiting, how many items they have, and how quickly/slowly they'll render their forms of payment, but it'll still likely be faster than the regular lines! Remember, bag tax is charged, so be green and bring your own satchels. read more

I had encountered 2 previous bad check out last week and today was another one. (Looks like it's the norm in whole food lately) My family also had the same thing happened to them last 2 checkouts where checkout people are rude and unfriendly throwing our stuff like they dont care not say hi or anything. 2 of my friends also had an incident where check out ladies gave then attitude too and acting unfreindly.. Botton line is i am not going to go there any more.
