So I decided to swing in here on my way to an event really quickly just to buy something quick to eat and decided to go with one of their halfway prepared salads. I didn't check the date but when I opened it, the lettuce was brown. Looking at the date now it says 7/17 so still plenty of time. I was already upset about that but imagine how even more upset I was when I found this nasty bug on the lettuce! I usually never buy prepared items but I thought this would be the healthier choice then stopping at a fast food joint. Apparently not. read more

ALDI is a particular type of grocery store, so I accept its quirkiness just fine. However, shopping in this store location is pretty predictably frustrating. Selections run out much too soon & there are no staff on the floor except for the produce replenishing folks, and I hate to ask them questions about dairy. There is always just ONE staffed register, run by a very overwhelmed Ed person who has to take questions, mind and troubleshoot the self-serve stations and also deal with returns, etc. What is the deal, Silver Spring Georgia Ave ALDI? I sometimes feel insulted shopping here, esp since my experience is very different at other stores. For example, the Rockville Pike location has 4-5 staffed registers! ( What are we here, chopped liver?) One other observation is that the non-food and "seasonal" items sections have moved up toward the front of the store and now occupy more space than ever. Can they go back toward the back in their own space? When I am focused on filling my shopping list, the last thing I need is a bunch of distractions getting in my way. I know they are money-makers, but I am there to buy food. I like ALDI. There is a lot they do very well. Service needs to be MUCH higher on the list of priorities, specifically at my local store that serves downtown Silver Spring as well as immediate surrounding areas. read more

Feels really weird doing a yelp review for a grocery store, but whatever. Ambiance: It's an Aldi grocery store you know what to expect. Service: Fine Food: The selection is good but they were randomly out of green onion and chick peas/ garbanzo beans today. So, honestly this is your box standard aldi. IT's nice and has what you need. Good selection. However, a storm rolled in on July 29th, as happens a lot in the summer, and after power flickered a bunch, the store lost power. One of the staff, a burly bald man about 5 foot 8 or so called out from the front of the store "We need all customers to leave the store in an emergency situation." 1) he was just loud enough for me to hear him not too far back from the front, but what about other customers that were in the back or halfway back? hat about ones who are hard of hearing? Have people come through the aisles with a flashlight on. 2) Why did we even have to leave the store? In a thunderstorm, somewhere like that is safer than under an over-hang. IT just made no sense. Also, if you're gonna have self check-outs, have a P.A. system or something. Then, when power came back on and everyone, logically came back in, the same dude said "you can't shop, the registers are still down" in the same overly perturbed, stressed voice. Other staff eventually told everyone too. I wasnt in a rush, so I waited. After like 10 minutes I was told: "we're asking customers to turn around/leave. We're putting stuff back. We can't log in to the store system." All while it seemed like some of the self checkouts were working. All in all, a fluke situation that really could have been handled better, and by a less "always stressed" sounding manager. Dude sounds like if "resting Bitch face" was a tone of voice. read more

The store is clean, prices are generally lower. There is no self check out. The thing I like about aldi is that carts are not lying every where. You have to put a quarter to get your cart and you can get it back when you place it back in the designated area. The signs are clear. Belmont ice cream is the cheapest icecream you can find in the area. But note that the ingredients are not all natural. I love the priano sauces here. Milk is cheaper especially the smaller containers compared to other stores in the area. It's fresh too. Poultry and eggs are not cheapest but I find them lasting longer. Don't have a lot of variety but the fruits and veggies you get here are generally cheaper and are of decent quality. There are a few items I don't like here: bananas, pineapples, peaches, kiwis, pears. Things I like to buy here: apples, berries, cucumbers, spring mix. Bread is good too. read more

Decent location. Not my go-to at all. Probably won't come back to this one. Parking was congested and spaces small. The selection of produce wasn't the best. The store was very crowded, and it was on a weekday. I couldn't imagine the weekends! There were only two cashiers working. Then there was an aggressive guy outside hounding you for your cart so he can get the quarter. Like he literally followed me to my car and waited until I unloaded my groceries. I gave in and let him take my cart! This was a big turn-off for me with this location! read more

Oh my sweet sweet Aldi, this location has down you dirty! Honestly I don't think I'll return to this location for a number of reasons (normally I start with the good but let's start with the bad today). 1. GA is a nightmare! Because this is located right last the freeway it takes you forever to get to the turn. That also means that leaving the store takes forever too! The parking lot is fine but the overall location is poor. 2. This location feels small and slightly run down. The AOS (random section) is not well kept up. I will say some times you can find older items that were released in earlier weeks. Now the good thing is this location doesn't seem to get very busy which means if you're looking for something they probably have it. I've gone there before and found a speciality item that is sold out everywhere with multiple in stock. I think the store is fine if you done mind the busy area and no thrill store but I'll pass moving forward. read more

I've never been an Aldi superfan... until now. Well, maybe just this one. This Aldi opened yesterday, so I totally avoided it. No golden ticket for me, but that's OK. I went after work (around 2:30) and they were... surprisingly not packed. Yay for me! And parking? Easy breezy. So far so good. Well you probably know the drill for carts. Pop in a quarter and break your cart out of jail. Except today, everyone I saw was giving their cart away to the next shopper. This does not happen at the other nearby Aldis I've shopped in. (Most times you'll have some derelict follow you to your car and ask to return your cart to keep the quarter. Not here. Looking classy, Silver Spring! Into the store I went. How dare you put yummy looking Christmas treats right inside the door! I caved. Onward, Libby. EVERYTHING is so cheap! And that's their regular prices. Fresh mushrooms (8oz) $0.59! Avocados (not ripe) $0.69! Chocolate covered pretzels $0.99! One pound bags of walnuts $5.99! Clementines (3# bag)... $2.59! I could go on and on, but I'll let you discover more deals for yourself. If you come soon, they'll give you three coupons (this location only) for $5.00 off future visits with a $30 purchase. It's easy to spend a lot her, but you'll get a lot too. This is a really nice & spacious Aldi i knew it was open but never had the chance to stop & go in. Until yesterday & i was so very pleased how clean spacious and well stocked every was. I recently purchased two items that i wanted to really try was the lemon creme breakfast toast & the Hawaiian roll bagels. First the lemon breakfast bread is so good it smells so delicious i seen that they had blueberry. But i did see that at this store. Also the Hawaiian roll bagels is delicious very soft & moist also both breakfast items are a winner. Ill highly recommend this location & to pick up the new breakfast items read more

Self-service checkout lines have massively improved the speed of a visit for those using them and for those in the now-shorter assisted checkout lines. The fresh produce is still suspect, growing mold much quicker than produce from Snider's or Costco. read more

I work at home in Silver Spring, Maryland. We are lucky to be close to three competitive supermarkets: A Giant and a Safeway in addition to Aldi. Our Aldi is on Georgia Avenue in a small shopping center. We try to shop only early on weekdays. All three markets are competitive with attractive specials that are advertised in our local newspaper, The Washington Post. read more

I have shopped at several Aldi in the Silver Spring area for several years now. Unfortunately, this particular Aldi continues to underperform: - Shelves are frequently poorly stocked, in some cases major items such as milk and certain brands of cereal are completely out of stock - Cashiers are few and far between - Some cashiers have been rude - Lines for the cashier can be extremely long while other Aldi staff appear to not be busy This appears to be a poorly managed Aldi. Although it is close to my house I often go all the way to the Aspen Hill Aldi which appears to have fewer issues. I hope they can read more

This Aldi store is is located at Seminary Place & Georgia Avenue. It is probably the closest one to my home. I have shopped here regularly since moving to Silver Spring MD. I was a big fan of the good prices on produce at Aldi when I lived in Cincinnati but I've come to appreciate the good prices and quality of many other items now. For starters there's a nice size parking lot here so I do not have any trouble parking. This isn't a big store but on a good day there's an impressive selection of fresh produce, dairy and snacks at very good prices. I now shop for grapes, lettuce, grape tomatoes, mini bell peppers, brie cheese, cheddar cheese, dark chocolate bars, half and half, berries & kettle chips here with prices that are usually lower than the Giant, Safeway and Target stores without using coupons & loyalty programs. The checkout Lanes sometimes get backed up but move fast. I bring in my reusable bags for checking out. I also use them instead of a shopping cart to move about the store with ease. I have found a few things at Aldi's that do not sell for a lower price like 32 oz low sugar Greek yogurt and eggs. I have two additional observations since I began shopping here. I have never seen all 3 checkout Lanes open at the same time even when it's very busy in the store. Also there's always more than a few shelf tags that are not the correct price. It seems that they don't get fixed very quickly but this is Aldi's and the price might be cheaper than what the tag says. This grocery store is perfect if you want to save money, don't care about name brand products, and are willing to bag your own groceries. I already do that at other stores in the self-checkout lanes, so no big deal. You will forget the bare-bones feel when you see your receipt! The produce section was hit/miss. When I went they had some good selections but some other veggies looked a bit limp. I was pleasantly surprised by the various gourmet cheeses they have. I will definitely be back to stock up for my next party! Plenty of dry/pkg goods at great prices. Including yummy European chocolates! Only 3 instead of 4 stars because of the weird smell near the front of the store in the nut/dried fruit section. read more

I have been acquainted with Aldi since the 80s in Chicago. They have always had low prices, but the presentation, offerings and popularity has grown. This location is one of the better ones in this area. The layout is easy to navigate. The products may shift with the seasons, but the staples stay the same. So, it's back to Aldi I go to load up on the grocery items that sustain my household. I shop with joy knowing my money will go far. Because Aldi adheres to healthier products and production, your fresh items may not last as long. Don't overstock this items. Suggestion: keep an eye out for the seasonal items. There's only 1 reason why people go to Aldi's. Everything is super cheap! There are very few name brands, but there are some like your Arizona Green Teas and Synder's pretzels. That also isn't to say that the brands that they carry are bad. A lot of their snacks are pretty good and I would advise you get go on a hunt for their garlic bread and ice cream sandwiches. The produce section and meat sections is on the smaller side, but if it's something basic you need, like apples or avocados, then it's probably there. All in all, I'm glad there's finally a big grocery store in the neighborhood that's affordable. read more

This place is terrible. Thought it might be a good alternative or addition to Trader Joe's, and I was a bit worried that Snyder's would suffer. Neither expectation will be realized, because this place isn't good enough for either. Your Aldi's experience begins with having to put a quarter in your cart to unlock it from the line of carts. Who carries quarters anymore? After a trip back to the car, you enter and find a small, wierd selection of groceries, combining an in house brand with national brands. Not enough selection of either. In a not too large space, they also cram in electronics, housewares, clothing, and seasonal items, all of very low quality. Aldi's obviously doesn''t know what it wants to be, but it comes across a sad compromise between Kmart and Safeway. read more

My go-to store for many commodities ever since they opened. Good quality with the lowest prices in the area for the items they stock. Minus: they don't have the selection of other supermarkets, but hey, there's a Giant and a Safeway a couple miles up Georgia Ave. for that. Incidentally, I've had to use their bathroom twice and found it to be sound and clean. The store itself seems clean to me. They have a good selection of their own brands as well as some well-known brands. I like to grocery shop and go to a few different stores depending on what I need. This is the 4th Aldi I have been to in this area and it's my favorite so far. I was a little worried about how traffic would be on Georgia Avenue near the Beltway, but no problem. Parking was easy on a weekday. The store is large and the aisles are generous. I really didn't need much but wanted to check the store out since it is definitely closest to my home. It was not busy at all and even though I didn't have a list I still managed to pick up some items. Some of the things I buy at Aldi regularly, because they are so much less expensive than Giant are: coffee creamer; eggs; cereal; cheese; boneless turkey breast; coffee; etc. I haven't been overly impressed with some of the produce (tomatoes) but other items like lemons and oranges are fine. There was no line when we checked out and no one panhandling in the parking lot. In fact, Rich and I joked that this little strip shopping center has a grocery, bakery, beer and wine store, and a CVS, almost everything we could possibly need in one small area. read more

First time in an Aldi's and very well maybe my last. Had to put in quarter to use cart, strike one! As soon as I walked in, I noticed a bad smell, like something was spoiled strike two! Then I went to the produce section, and it had limited items, mostly in bags, with unknown names, strike three. Meat section was sad. I would be surprised if they last a year. Sniders has nothing to worry about in the long run . I don't think this is a good spot for this type of store. read more

The worst customers AND customer service ever. Lines down the aisle, customers butting in front of other customers, and no organization. They need lines for Express purchases, which is not a thing there at all. I was pretty irritated, and called the store to discuss my concerns about the customers butting in line with the manager. Turns out their stores do not have incoming calls. They ask that you contact the website, but you can guess where that goes. I then went to the managers office, asked for more checkers and help with customer issues. She said she was getting someone else to open a register, and barely polite. Turns out, Aldi is not for me. And really, WTF with the quarters... read more

Some guy stands outside asking for change. He is scamming people by asking if they have a quarter, giving them a cart that won't give the quarter back.. as he continues to collect quarters. Called aldi but they dont seem to care because they don't have lines for direct access to the people working there to warn them. Other than that I love aldi though. read more

PRICES PRICES PRICES. (If only real estate were that easy.) Each week they offer 6-7 fruits / veggies for THE lowest prices anywhere. I shop at many grocery stores. These prices are the best. Anything in the store is good (except their creamy salad dressing. Maybe it soured on the shelf or wasn't to my taste buds?) It's a small store with 5-6 aisles total. They have a little bit of everything... The "cheerios" are $1.20! I can't tell the diff. Their chocolate is imported from Germany as are many other gourmet type foods. Buy: Eggs, milk, cheese, frozen foods, plastic bags, tissue, spices, sugar, snacks, snacks, snacks = again, the prices are insanely LOW! Go once, you'll be hooked. TIPS: You need a Quarter coin to get a cart. They rely on you bringing back your own cart to save money on hiring someone to run around the lot for YOU! Ha! Add this walk to your fit bit total! Also BYOB. (Bring Your Own Bags). You can buy the Aldi's bags for a dime. That's double what others charge but the bags will last 10 times as long as they are VERY sturdy and HUGE! You pack your own bags from your cart after check out. There is plenty of counter space to do that. Shorter wait times! Again, you save money with no baggers to pay. read more

I've been an Aldi fan for decades and do most of my regular grocery shopping there. I don't live close by anymore but twice a month my daughter has an appointment nearby and I take the opportunity to squeeze in my weekly shopping. This Aldi is the biggest disaster I have every experienced during that time slot--constantly out of things like basic produce, cat litter, canola oil, and too small of a footprint for the amount of shoppers. It's even worse than the older Langley Park store, which was also meh. I love Aldi prices, and their selection has really expanded in recent years with lots of fun finds, but this store needs to figure out how to get the right staff and stock levels on the weekends. read more

We don't do meat in my family so miss out on the biggest and best deal there, but there is plenty else to keep me going back: cheeses, breads, dairy, fruits, veggies, plenty of frozen goodies, eggs, nuts, snacks, good orange juice, etc. all at great prices. But Aldi/Silver Spring, you are breaking my heart! Fruit and veg bins are empty more often than not, finding my favorite Brie is a losing game lately, and if I need Half and half, I might just as well plan to visit two grocery stores that day. There are generally very long lines with three registers open at best, and today, when a customer was questioning prices at the register while more than 20 waited, I almost lost it! This is not the kind of shopper I want to be. Why is this, Aldi? I visited a store In Virginia on the other side of the bridge not too long ago and felt like I was in a totally different universe. Aldi = Aldi????? What's going on? Better yet, can we look forward to a change soon, before I start going back to the stores I abandoned when you came to town? You know the answer I am hoping for. Great Aldi! Yes, you have to put a quarter in to get a cart. Yes, you have to bag your own groceries in the bagging area. Yes, the staff is slim and always very busy. This is why their prices are SO low. The business model is different than a regular grocery store. If you're cool with all that, then you'll love it here. Very clean, pretty well stocked and ample parking. Glad to see this new addition to the neighborhood! read more

Just like all of the other Aldis great as usual. You can always guarantee that you will get the lowest price and the best selection. Is you never been to one it's a must try you won't be disappointed and you will save money. You will need a quarter for the buggy but you will get it back when you return it.
