Boy do I have a horrible story for you! I am shocked and appalled. This afternoon we were at Whole Pets washing our dog Ollie. As we were going to pay, Ollie ran into the metal display hanging right at dog level. It went into his nostril and he started bleeding profusely. We tried to stop his bleeding for 20 minutes while the employees stood around and watched. Finally we decided to take him to the urgent care. I asked the employees to remove the metal stick, but they would not do it. They just kept saying that this had never happened before while Ollie was bleeding out on their floor. The vet wasn't able to completely stop the bleeding, so they gave him methodone and a bunch of other drugs and sent him home. He should be ok, if there is no further damage. Later that evening, per our request, the owner of the store, Carol Kuzdek called us. After hearing the story, not only did she refuse to remove the bottom part of the display, which was at dog level, thus preventing other dog injuries, but she also refused to even contribute to our vet bill. Her explanation was that removing the bottom part of the display to prevent these sorts of injuries would ruin their whole display. Now I ask you people, am I out of line or is this woman totally cynical and contemptuous of the dogs and their people whom she aims to serve? If you agree with me, please forward this to anyone who is a pet owner in Boulder who might patronize her store. Maybe multiple requests would make her change her dangerous display. read more

Taste of the Wild cat food isn't available just anywhere. Whole Pets and a few other stores in Boulder carry it. I also like that they have samples of various dry pet foods available. Very helpful. I especially enjoyed meeting Dorie (sp?), the young dog who sat up on the main counter, looking supremely content & comfortable. The price of Taste of the Wild cat food is a few dollars higher here than at the store where I usually go to get it; however I still really do like Whole Pets. read more

Great small business who puts thought into what they stock - so no, you won't find endless aisles of anything here, but you will find brands that don't tend to have recalls, that don't have a ton of fillers, and that the owner has personally researched and can talk to you knowledgeably about, especially if you have a pet with particular preferences or needs. They also give back to the community, partnering with rescues for adoption events and fundraisers. I'm a little surprised at the price commentary - for the exact same brands I've found WP to be slightly cheaper (2-5%) plus have loyalty programs for those brands (buy 10, get the 11th free, etc). read more

I would give zero star if that was available. I called to find out if I could bring my dogs in for a wash, and was told that if I get there before 4:30pm it would be ok. I arrived at 4:27pm, stood at the register for more than 3 mins waiting to be helped. Then finally received help but of course it was past 4:30pm, so I couldn't wash my dogs. Maybe I should have been told on the phone to arrive by 4:25 or 4:20pm, otherwise the tubs will be disinfected. The employee at the front was clearly very confused about what the store policy was, and gave me random information over the phone. This employee was also very rude when she finally decided to talk to me. If she hadn't wasted my time at this store I could have gone somewhere else and gotten my dogs washed before the other stores also closed. read more

Whole Pets is a nice local pet shop near Whole Foods in Boulder. They have a nice variety of pet supplies for dogs and cats. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. There is even a few of the staff's dogs hanging out. The prices seem a bit high but the selection is decent. I've purchased many bully sticks and treats for my dog. I would recommend trying them out. read more

we recently were in Boulder to pick up some items and noticed that this place had a self serve style pet wash. I have never used one but the dogs needed a bath so we gave it a shot. It was well stocked with all sorts of bath products and grooming tools to use for the pups. I really like the assortment of shampoos they had. The station was lifted off the ground and had a great sprayer to get the dogs clean and rinsed easily. I will be using a wash station like this again. It made the pup bath fast and easy. read more

I went to Whole Pets this week to use their self-service dog wash and was impressed! The cost was very reasonable: $12/dog and $10 for additional dogs (only if you use the same tub!). They provided the tub, hand-help water hose, shampoo, towels, dryer, and plenty of treats. The facilities were clean and well-kept. You could close the door to the wash room so other dogs could be off leash and confined, while each wash tub was in a private stall The staff was very friendly and helpful. We decided to pick up some bone treats too while we were there. They seemed to have a wide variety of products. The prices were high, so I would only come here for very specific items, not all the time. read more

Me and my two bunnies love this place SO much! The whole staff is so friendly and helpful. They carry Oxbow (an organic line of small animal feed/hay). About a year ago, my bunnies were refusing to eat their hay, and my vet recommended I check this place out for the Oxbow hay. It's the only type of food that they will eat (and it's actually a little cheaper than the non-organic options at other larger places in town). And when I wanted to mix up what I was feeding my bunnies? They ordered me something else. And the rewards program!! I feel like every time I'm there, I'm getting free stuff from them (holla!). These people are the worst. There are other natural pet stores around. My dog died unexpectedly, so I wanted to return some unused items and they flat out refused, saying that is their policy. The owner had zero empathy, shocking she's even in the pet business. They never tell you when you are checking out that the is a no return policy and the tiny sign is covered when you put your stuff on the counter. The word around town is that their food actually comes from China and is packaged here as natural, but probably not. Since there is no requirement that pet food products have pre-market approval by the FDA for "wholeness" or organic or anything close to that. Alll the FDA does with pet food is approve if it's safe. This place is pretending to be associated with Whole Foods, next door, but they are in no way associated with Whole Foods. Buyer beware!! read more

We come to CO every summer and spend time up in the mountains but always make a stop in Boulder at Whole Pets and for 3 years running they're friendly, helpful and a fun stop with the pup. This year we took advantage of their donor yourself dog wash and it was fabulous. The kids always love meeting the store pups and kitties. We'll be back next year. read more

I feel bad giving a local organic pet shop 3 stars. But each time I've come in here, it's just felt really cramped and that i was being watched the whole time. I do like how they sell chicken necks though! The staff usually asks if I need any help. The prices are a little high and since Only Natural Pet Store is just across the street, it's tough for me to want to come here. If you have a little extra cash to spend though, you should definitely try to support the underdog! read more

It's rare that I'd go out of my way to give a locally owned biz a negative review. That said, this shop really missed the mark on cleanliness and customer service. I brought my dog in for a bath -- granted, on a busy Saturday -- and rather than asking if I'd be willing to wait while they made sure there was a clean stall available for me (first and major miss), they sent me back to the bathing area. I have a larger dog, and there is only one stall available that suits larger dogs. The area was absolutely FILTHY with another dog's hair everywhere, including the brushes and bottles of shampoo. Not sure, but I imagine this could actually be a health code violation? Because my dog gets nervous in those situations I felt compelled to go ahead and bathe her anyway. When a staffer did walk back to check on things, I mentioned the dirty conditions and she seemed completely apathetic and unsurprised. When I mentioned the situation to the cashier, she also seemed totally unsurprised and unapologetic. So they definitely lost my business, and wouldn't recommend the self serve bath to anyone. read more

Firstly: Why is the address listed as being on Valmont? Are there two stores? I find that some things are cheaper here and some things are cheaper at Only Natural (across the parking lot - totally weird) I love their self-serve dog wash - very low key and SUPER CHEAP! In Chicago the same dog wash would cost $20 and only costs $12 here. I hate bending over my tub and trying to get the hand held shower head to reach the back of the shower where my dog huddles when being bathed at home. I also like the selection of shampoos and conditioners! The selection in the cat section is a little thin here, they have the food, but not the wide selection I'm used to seeing elsewhere. read more

I feel really mixed about this place--on the one hand, it's a local shop with a lot of high quality, organic options for pets, but on the other hand, it's selection is pretty limited and the service is nothing to call home about. They have a really great selection of food--dry, wet, and raw--and I can't imagine being unable to find what you were looking for here. For me, it's everything else in the store that's lacking. They have a VERY small selection of leashes and collars, only a handful of toys, only carry one brand of bed (West Paw), and only carry a couple of varieties of bones/chews (a lot of bully sticks, pigs ears, chicken necks, and things in that vein). Especially for large breeds and aggressive chewers, this store has little to offer. They do carry Tuffy toys (the real deal, not the knock-off brands I've started to see around), but that was the only offering i saw that was fit for my pit bull. Probably the biggest negative of this place, for me, is the service. I have never been approached by an employee while shopping here and any time I've needed help, I've had to go up to the desk and find them. It's not that their employees are unfriendly or unhelpful (once you do track them down), but unlike at other pet stores in Boulder, they don't seem passionate about helping pets and their people. Also, none of the employees I've interacted with have had any specific knowledge about pit bulls and haven't been able to recommend products based on their success with other bullys. All in all, this is a fine shop. If you're only shopping for food, you will absolutely be able to find what you're looking for, but if you're looking for anything else, don't get your hopes up. read more

We purchase our raw dog food here and enjoy their frequent buyer program. The in-house dogs are always cute and friendly and I appreciate the selection of dry dog food (and tiny samples at the bottom of each shelf. Some days the staff is chipper and some days they are not, but that sort of stuff doesn't bother me very much. The parking spots in front of Whole Pets are super narrow so be careful when you do park your car. The staff helps out your dog food to your car and loads it for you which is great customer service. read more

Not a dog friendly store & not going back. I have been a loyal customer for many many years but I am upset about how a sales associate treated my dog today. I have a senior black lab; he is 10 years old. He loved coming to Whole Pets. Always kept pulling me into the store to get his favorite treats and snacks. Today a sales associate was visibly upset because my dog drooled on the floor. I apologized multiple times, I also offered to clean it up. Her response: "Next time you tell us in advance when your dog drools" -with a passive aggressive tone in her voice. And this is not all. After I offered to clean up the minimal drool, she frantically grabbed the spray cleaner and sprayed the floor around my dog. I had to get away and pull my dog away from her. Her response: "OH, YEAH BUDDY YOU DON'T WANT TO BE CLOSE TO THIS. YOU DON'T WANT TO LICK THIS." WOW. Just wow! Horrible! Never again, I will visit this store. Wish I could give it 0 stars! read more

My dogs get bathed at home and don't typically struggle with it, but we were running errands in Boulder and ran across this place while in the parking lot. Since my pups had spent the previous weekend in a kennel, they were stinky and needed some attention. The self-serve baths were $11-12 apiece and super easy. They provide leashes to tether your pup on the raised platform, waterproof aprons, plenty of towels, a variety of cleaning and brushing products as well as treats to stuff in your pup's mouth while they are being soaked and scrubbed. On top of all that, they have a punch card so you can save if you come here often enough. Everyone working was friendly and helpful. This wasn't something I was looking for but I'll definitely be back because it was so easy and convenient. $1 bully sticks made for a happy ride home. read more

Very poor customer service, snotty help, and you CAN NOT return things they only give in store credit, which is written on the counter - however it is not very helpful if you have the items you are purchasing sitting on top of their note - they should VERBALLY tell you this before your purchase. Happened to be in Boulder last week and saw the Whole Pets next to Whole Foods. As a chronic pet spoiler I felt it my duty to see if they had anything in there I needed for my rescue gang. Great local business. I've never had a bad experience here. This has been my sole pet food supplier for at least two years now. Every employee I've interacted with is helpful and knowledgeble of at least basic holistic pet care and the advantages and disadvantages of the many natural pet foods they carry. They monitor their suppliers and stop carrying foods if they can't verify the purity of the ingredients. They gladly give you samples so that your pet can try the foods before you buy, and if for any reason your pet doesn't like the food, as long as you keep the receipt, they'll take it back with no hassle. Just as importantly, going to this store is an enjoyable experience. There are dogs wandering around, the staff seems genuinely happy and eager to help, and their selection of foods, products, accessories and treats is wide, well organized and fun to peruse. Highly recommended. Support this well-run local business. read more

This place rocks - the self service dog wash is awesome. 12 bones for a stall. Pick one of six, they are a couple different heights. Comes with quality shampoo, conditioner (dunno what else, there where six bottles of stuff!), a couple towels, brushes, a nearby treat, a fairly loud dryer (took my dog a little getting used to) and warm water on a nozzle with good handling. First come first serve. There was no line when I went, and no one hussled me along. I cleaned up his fur as best I could and tossed in the can, but they told me at the desk they don't really expect you to. Got him a slice of dog pizza post bath. They gave him a treat too. This pet store rocks with great selection and excellent customer service. I popped in to try to buy a particular puppy food. The store didn't have it on the floor but checked their stock room. They had the Fromm's puppy food in the back and sold it to me for a great price. The best pet store in Boulder. Great selection of smart foods for your pets. Staff is always sweet and sometimes carries large bags to your car for you!!! I have to special order food for my two shiba inu dogs. And they call and hold it for me until I come in. Clean store and don't forget you can take advantage of the dog wash there too. I have been to a few self washing places around Boulder but this one has, by far, surpassed my expectations. They have a great price and a special on Wednesdays. The tub room was clean and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful in terms of going above and beyond to provide me with tips on what products and tools would work best for MY dog. They really do a great job of providing a lot of goods so you don't feel as if you're money is wasted and they even gave my pup some jerky to help him cope with his bath! Just a great place with pleasant staff--I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a professional place to wash their dog. read more

Kind of hectic and crowded, but worth it. I took my collies in for a wash- they don't handle being groomed by others very well. They are rescue dogs, and who knows what they have been through, they are very shy and timid. I like the concept of being able to do it myself- it's not nearly as stressful on them as it is having them professionally groomed. I will definitely be back.
