I didn't make the appointment in the first place. I was also told by Dr. Duke that he was going to sign HIPAA consent forms on my behalf (never saw them and I don't think that's even legal). SCAM - DO NOT TRUST Despite the good reviews, my experience with Dr Duke has been a waste of time, money, and energy. I have been seeing acupuncturists for approximately 15 years now and Dr Duke has been the first to yield 0 results and run business in a silly and ridiculous manner. Initially, Duke confidently made a diagnosis and told me 2-3 weeks should relieve my pain. But after a couple weeks of no improvement, Dr Duke started asking if I had gotten blood work, CT scans, and MRIs done (all of which I have done), as if to imply he couldn't address any conditions that were actual medical conditions identified by Western medicine. His confidence in the diagnosis seemed to grow weak. About a month in, I was still not feeling better, to which he said "this is harder than I thought. It will take 2-3 more months of treatment... up to 800% longer than his original estimate!! Still, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and continued to follow his direction. Dr. Duke is a life saver. I woke up with excruciating pain in my shoulder / back area running up my neck. I could barely get out of bed and movement was severely limited. So, I have been suffering from an eye/skin condition for a few months. I tried everything from discontinuing my current skincare and eye makeup to taking some otc allergens (which I despise). I've been seeing Dr. Mansell for the past month for acupuncture appointments on a weekly basis. I'll give you some background information on myself, though, to hopefully add some context. I'm a physician assistant practicing in oncology, and I'm firmly grounded in evidence-based medicine, especially having worked in an academic institution for the past two years. In oncology, there is an established role for complimentary alternative medicine, including acupuncture. When "western medicine" seemed to have failed me, regarding my issues with anxiety, I turned to the holistic/naturopath approach, first reading about acupuncture and traditional chinese medicine. So I gave it a try. Over the past month, I've noticed a modest improvement in, what can be best described as, my response to stress. For the past two or three acupuncture sessions, I have consistently fallen into a deep sleep with the acupuncture needles, which arguably means that "something" is happening with regard to those pressure points. Throughout my busy work day, I have noticed that there is a positive change with regard to my stress response, and I don't seem to be as absorbed by stress as I was before. Of course, there are a lot of forces at work - acupuncture being one of them. I have tried a few different Chinese herbs and am now trying Siberian Rhodiola Rosea as part of the treatment repertoire. I was experiencing shoulder pain and hand cramping from playing tennis several times a week. I have a dislocating collarbone on my dominant side so shoulder pain is a way of life for me. I went to the orthopedist and they offered the same generic treatment for both ailments. Steroid shot, x-ray (totally unnecessary but hey they can bill insurance!) and come back in 8 weeks for an MRI.
