    Chicken wahn mi
    Angela M.

I had only heard great things about this place so I finally made it. The place was packed and everything looked so tasty. Since I almost always gravitate towards Asian good, I got the chicken w'anh mi. It was a bit on the pricey side at around $9, especially since the best banh mi over ever had in my life was $3.50. But this is London and because of the lack of competition, things just cost more here. I can accept that. My first bite was delicious, the powerful flavored of the soy sauce marinaded chicken with the crunch of the pickled vegetables felt right. Unfortunately, by the third bite you realize they overmarinaded the chicken, leading me to finish off two bottles of water and wanting to taste anything else besides soy sauce after completing my meal. I was super sad because I really wanted to like it, but it's just mediocre. I wish I had just gone to benh thanh instead of having a sodium overload

Was in London for the first time and was getting lunch for the band and crew from a venue down the street. I walked by and peaked in this shop the night prior and was excited to try it out. When I walked in I was greeted by lovely owner who helped me choose sandwiches for everyone. The kitchen is on display and everything looked so clean, fresh and amazing. I ended up going for the veggie sandwich which was zucchini, kale, roasted tomato with a white bean hummus on homemade bread. Usually the veggie option at a sandwich place can lack flavor but this was insane! So much different spaces and the bread was not too crunchy or stale. You can tell their menu is well fully thought out and unique. I wish I was in town longer to try another sandwich. Highly recommended !

Wish I ordered two sandwiches today I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich Before we left the owner checked in with my table. That was a nice touch

When we had arrived to the tearoom on a Friday afternoon at 12:00 pm, our table was set and ready for us. I was given a very small menu with the bagged tea selections; I had settled on cherry, which was delicious with some sugar. The teapot came with a tea cozy which I thought was cute however, all of the plates and teacups were plain white, with little doilies on the bottom of the plates. The tables were wooden, and the room was large however, quite old, with creaky floors. I was first given the sandwiches and other savories; the sandwiches were canned salmon and egg salad; there was no smoked salmon, or cucumber with cream cheese. There were also wraps with ham and turkey, along with three small quiches and a sausage roll (which was delicious). The next order was a dish with one raisin scone cut in half, with whip cream and a few strawberries on the top. There were no side dishes of clotted cream and jam, which was disappointing. The desserts were abundant, and all were delicious however, they weren't authentic British desserts. The service was wonderful though, as our server came to greet us often, making sure that we were taken care of. The room itself has many teapots, with teapots even adorning the beams of the ceiling. Overall though, I wasn't impressed with the high tea, as I found that there were many elements missing, and it wasn't what I expected it to be when high tea was mentioned. I was told that the main menu items were delicious so, I may try that the next time I come around.

Staff are always…read morefriendly and welcoming - but its the sandwiches that really keep me coming back every time I'm in Stratford. The newest location is right by the river - with lots of public parking across the street. Beautiful old building and a nicer overall decor than the previous spot. Still colourful - with cool drawings of their famous sandwiches on the walls. Lots on offer, but really, who am I kidding? "Mennonite sandwich, please" is what I said - and what you better say if you know what's good for ya. That delicious summer sausage, fresh corn relish with a subtle but delicious kick of spice. The cheddar - classic taste - nice slice - just how I like it. Definitely not processed cheese. The fresh country white bread - melt in your mouth but still with a crunchy brown crust. MMMMMMMMMennonites seem to have the secret of sandwich making down pat. This is the kind of sandwich that puts hair on your chest...What's that joke - why do Mennonite boys grow beards? Because they want to look just like their moms! Lol a bit off side maybe there - but my point is simple - a hearty, tasty sandwich - one of the best and most classic available in Ontario. Get out there and grab a few. The baking is also delicious!!

Fab! The best sandwiches in Stratford! At INCREDIBLE prices, too!!!…read more Check out the checklist-style takeout menu: http://www.yorkstreetkitchen.com/YSKSandwichmenu.pdf Most of my friends are huge fans of the Mennonite Sandwich. I enjoy the Othello (sans pesto, of course) but most often create-my-own. Last time I was there I had local goats cheese (swoon-inducing) on multigrain (OMG freshly-baked and so so so good) with alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, lettuce, roasted sweet red peppers, honey mustard (made by local mennonites!) & mayo. I always add the "deli dills" - I'm pretty sure they're local mennonite too. Needless to say, PHENOMENAL. They also have THE MOST AMAZING 4-bean salad. Try it. Trust me. I don't even LIKE bean salad all that much... this one converted me. Really. GET IT. They lose a star because it's time to fix the service. It takes waaay too long to get your food, and that's true whether you eat in or order from the take-out window. Service is a bit better for breakfast, but still nothing to rave about. Expect to wait 20-30 minutes for your food. The kitchen & waitstaff are unfortunately more often than not visibly frazzled/stressed. I have been here for breakfast a bunch of times, as well as dinner once or twice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their jam - "moss berry" - never heard of it before or since! For dinner, I've had the Spinach, Marinated Mushroom, Red Onion and Goat Cheese Pizza ($6.50) as well as the Caramelized Broccoli, Red Onion and Ricotta Stuffed Pasta Shells baked in a our slow-cooked Tomato Sauce ($13.95). Both VERY yummy. Their breakfast burrito is legendary. I must recommend it as your first breakfast expedition at YSK. For meat-eaters, try the peameal bacon. LOCAL PORK FACTOIDS: A note on peameal bacon + Stratford: this is prime peameal bacon territory. If you don't make it to YSK, try to get to the Stratford Farmer's Market where you will find a chuckwagon of sorts vending DREAMY peameal bacon sandwiches. OMG. AMAZING. Perth County produces some of the best pork in the country. If you're passing through Shakespeare on the way to Stratford (or back - it's just east of Stratford), make a stop at "The Best Little Pork Shoppe", which is certainly NOT little. Check it out: http://www.porkshoppe.com/ Last interesting pork fact? The Annual Ontario Pork Congress happens in Stratford too. Just one more point in proof that Stratford is THE place to be eating pork. Which I don't, to clarify. I've been a veghead for 13 years now. But I have juicy childhood memories of Saturday mornings at the market with my Dad eating peameal bacon sandwiches with LOCAL bacon, LOCAL cheddar cheese, FRESHLY-CHURNED LOCAL butter on a FRESHLY-BAKED kaiser bun. FOR REAL. Back to TSK breakfast. I've also had the French Toast with local maple syrup and some sort of homemade apple-pie-filling-type side (INCREDIBLE) and the H.M.S. Pinafore Breakfast Sandwich (toasted bagel with that gorgeous local goat cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, onion & lettuce) is worth a try too! So basically, if you're looking for a unique, personality-filled, delicious place for breakfast, brunch or lunch, HEAD HERE!
