First off I would like to say that this repair shop/luthier shop is most likely in the top 5 if not the top 3 in the metroplex. I have taken my instruments to folks in the past and they didn't seem to actually "get" what I was asking for but Chad DEFINITELY does. I brought in two guitars one was a vintage Yamaha that my mother had given me that was pretty much unplayable with a stripped truss rod and was in desperate need of a set up within my limited budget. He ultimately gave me many options to choose from and I ultimately went with a "poor man's neck reset" and a set up. I will say that I am COMPLETELY blown away by the guitar now and I just keep thinking and asking my self it is the same guitar because it is ABSOLUTELY playable and sounds so good, I just can't say enough good things about this man and his great skills and business practices a couple of more things to note though are: 1. His location is very conveniently with ample parking nearby. 2. His tools are of HIGH quality because he cares about what he is using to work on such delicate instruments. 3. He is a humble, honest, and modest guy. 4. He has an incredible turn around time for challenging projects and any project for that matter. 5. His prices are OUT OF THIS WORLD reasonable compared to other local luthiers with his skill level and experience. 6. etc etc.... I like this shop a lot better when it's open. I've probably visited 4 times in the past few years, most recently today, and I've only been inside once. Every other time, it's been closed. I don't show up at odd times or anything, it has always been between 11-3, it seems. The hours say it's open at 11 on the door. I showed up today around 11:45 and there was no signs of life in the shop and the door was locked. It's a nice shop, but the one time I was in there I wasn't there to buy a guitar, I just wanted to know what the stock was like so the next time I bought a guitar, I might be able to consider them. However, the owner took no interest in me and was quite rude. I'm sure he's good at what he does, but there's plenty of other shops where they open on time and the owner doesn't talk down to you. read more
