I asked for help in the beer aisle and am wow-ed at the helpfulness and knowledge of the beer guy. They actually have someone who knows beer in and out. He asked what was looking for and I explained I needed something really good for the mechanic who fixed my car. Beer guy led me over to the micro brews and explained about the different ones. Since I didn't know the mechanic's taste, Beer guy explained the differences and nuances of many of the beers. He helped me settle on an assorted 6 pack of very cool looking beers. A liquor store with more choices than I could possibly need, however they always surprise. Never lacking in diverse selections and staff always offering a hand if ever in doubt about your choices. Four stars for a decent selection and typically a very good experience with staff. Recently called to inquire about a specific bourbon and was very disappointed in the call. I tried to buy Blanton and was told to call on Thursdays to see if they've gotten it in and buy immediately before it sells out. It truly felt like I was talking to a used car salesman. I appreciate that hard to find bourbons or any liquor can sell fast... but would like to feel that I'm dealing with a premium store with outstanding customer service. FYI I've spent over $3000 in bourbon, cognac and scotch last year. I bought the Blanton online ad I did not have to call and rush to the store. read more

Buyer Beware!! Went to Wilburs today ( 2/24) to buy some beer. Nothing fancy. I was looking at domestic beer and found a reasonably priced 12 pack. I grabbed 2 and went to check out. There the clerk scanned the beer and it didn't come up in his system. So he tried to look it up manually but couldn't find it. He finally asked for help and another clerk tried to look it up. After he was unsuccessful he called to what I would assume a manager and the look on his face when he saw what I was buying. Two 12 packs of Bud Light Chelada. He asked where I got it and I told him in the cooler. Told him there was a couple more in there. He told the other clerks they were not to put that in the cooler as 12 packs and that the beer was not for sale in 12 packs. He said that Wilburs breaks down the 12 packs and sell them as 6 packs. $11.99 a 6 pack. So in short it looks as if Wilburs is taking some beers and breaking them down into 6 packs so they can make more money. A 12 pack of Bud Light Chelada for $23.98. (2 six pack prices) not going to happen. Recently I bought a 12 pack of the same beer from Walmart for $15.00. Of course I refused to pay that much for sub-par beer. Heck I can get a case of Corona for 35 bucks. A case of Bud Light Chelada would have been $47.96 at their price. I find this to be a very unethical practice. And to that I will never step into that store again knowing a business would do that to their customers. Make it so you can only but it in 6 packs for a higher price. They bought it from the distributor in 12 pack form, they should sell it as a 12 pack. I wonder if the liquor commission knows of this and if it is legal. Makes me wonder what else they are doing to gouge the customer. Sorry Wilburs but I need to let the consumer know. Word of mouth read more

Wilbur's is my go-to place for adult beverages. Huge selection!! It isn't the closest liquor store to my house, but when I want to find a good selection, or when I am looking for something that isn't at a more local place, I come here. I love the large beer selection and the specialty beer bottles they have as single beer bottles. When something new comes out from a local brewery I can usually count on Wilbur's to have it. I am a beer and whiskey drinker for the most part, but when I am looking for a good gin or scotch, this is where I come to find it. The prices aren't that bad and they have sales often enough that I often find something fun to try as well. On occasion I get an employee that is apathetic in their customer service, but that is typically the exception to the rule and I get pretty good service here. They offer a 10% discount to military veterans and they have a rewards program that gives discounts and you can work toward money off after spending a certain amount. Wilbur's isn't the best liquor store I have ever been in, but it's the best one in Fort Collins and surrounding area and for that...5 stars!! read more

Some may think that professing one's love for a liquor store is a sign of a problem, but I do truly love Wilbur's Total Beverage. It is a supermarket-sized shop, with a great selection of wine and craft beers/microbrews, as well as other libations. I think it's great that you'll find offerings from all of the local Fort Collins brewers here, including pretty much all of New Belgium's Lips of Faith series. They also try to stock rarer, highly-acclaimed beers -- they may limit purchases to 1 per person, but I appreciate the effort it must take to get their hands on these rare bottlings. The wine selection is almost overwhelming, but the staff members are always friendly and helpful. Tell them what you're eating, what sort of price range you're looking for, and they'll come up with some spot-on recommendations for you. The Saturday tastings are great, too. read more

Every time that I visit Fort Collins my brother says that I must stop at Wilbur's just to check out the beer selection. After hearing about it on several different trips and finally making it in on my last trip...why did it take me so long to get here!? Yes, I enjoy a bottle of wine or a good cocktail which Wilbur's has all the options for that but the wall'o'beer that they have is the only reason to go. Living in Dallas, we don't have a store that dedicates so much space to beer. I've also lived in New York where they have entire stores dedicated to just beer, which is something I wish Dallas had. That being said, Wilbur's was a treat to go in and just look. I thought I would just go in, grab a 6 pack or two and head out. After about 20 minutes I made my own variety 6 pack of Oktoberfest and grabbed a 750ml. I only wish I had more time. The only downside to Wilbur's is that the staff that I spoke to were clueless. I think they were just happy to be getting a paycheck but bummed that they had to work for it, because after asking for a suggestion the only thing I got from their answer was "totally, sweet and gnarly." "Thanks." For now on each trip I make to Fort Collins Wilbur's will be a stop. read more

This is like a Total Wine but without the corporate feel. Everyone I met was very knowledgeable and friendly and didn't mind walking me around the store to find what I was looking for. Pleasant conversation at the check out and the employees actually listened to my side of things. It felt like I had made a really fast friend. Tons of local treats as well as some hard to find international choices. I was visiting from AZ and it was nice to have a selection of CO ciders for the hotel room. This is a fantastic liquor store - it was my favorite when I lived in Fort Collins, and I still stop in when I'm up north. They've got a good selection of beer, wine, and liquor. One of the coolest things is that they allow you to do a "mix and match" six pack of beer - unfortunately, they're now charging $9.99 for the privilege. Great feature, but pricy since the beers available for mix are along the lines of New Belgium. Anyway, the staff here has always been very friendly, and they seem to know their stuff. I have been looking for apricot eau de vie for way too long. Long enough that I will have to search for the cocktail recipe I wanted it for! But - I bought it! That just gives you a clue of the size of their selections. MASSIVE. I think what most impressed me was their selection of bitters. So many brands, so many flavors. Actually - this is a great go-to place if you are in to making cocktails. They have it all. This is is a place I will check out every time I come through town. Love this store, but had a terrible encounter with the manager Phillip. I went in to buy 3 bottles of sale vodka but there was only 1 bottle on the shelf, so I asked the guy stocking the shelves for help. This happened to be Phillip the manager, he didn't seem very thrilled to help me but eventually came over to help. I asked him if he could check in back for 2 bottles of vodka. He went off in search of vodka I guess, he never did say. He came back with a case of vodka, dumped the box at my feet without a word, I asked him his name, which he reluctantly gave me and I thanked him for his help and again not a word. When I went to check out I voiced my concerns to the checker and another associate, I was told Phillip was the manager and this not the first complaint against him, I guess he's not a people person. First off let me say that I love this place for its tasteful selection and low prices. Which makes it all the more unbelievable that I was treated so badly this afternoon. I came in to buy a bottle of Hendricks with my wife, and when we went to pay the clerk asked for my ID and then my wife's also. When I let the clerk know that my wife didn't have her ID with her he promptly removed the bottle from the counter and told me that they would no longer be able to sell to me. Not only that, but I would have to wait until tomorrow to buy from them again. When I asked for an explanation, the clerk replied that "It's not a State law or anything, this is just our policy". While I understand the legal repercussions of a store selling directly to minors are serious, I don't know what recourse the state of Colorado could possibly have -- liquor stores can and do protect themselves from this by asking for ID from the person who is MAKING THE PURCHASE. Extending the same requirement to others who just happen to be with them is, as the clerk mentioned, "not required by law" and only serves to publicly embarrass their otherwise loyal patrons who have no way of knowing about and are caught off guard by such an abstract and ridiculous policy. Despite my disappointment, it is completely in their right to enforce whatever policies they like. Even so, they could be reinforcing life-long fans (as I once was) of their establishment but have instead chosen not only to put every customer under scrutiny (which IS appropriate), but the people who are not customers at as well. Following the Wal-Mart business model, Wilbur's can afford to take the liberty to insult one customer after another and still rely on shear size and one-time purchases to take in a steady a profit. If all you're looking for is a low price super-store, this might be a great place to go. If you're looking for a place to call "your liquor store" or if you don't enjoy being publicly shamed, you might want to go somewhere else. And just so whoever is reading this knows, I'm still a fan, and I want to "make it right", so rather than just leaving a nasty comment here and leaving it, I plan on calling them tomorrow morning to chat with a manager to express my concern -- not just complain. If I get a human being on the other end of the phone who can express empathy and reason with me, I'll take this down. If I get another "well, that's just our policy" then they'll have re-affirmed my bad experience, and you'll know why I left this up. read more

I was shopping there with my husband for the first time because we wanted to get a really nice bottle of bourbon. We looked for awhile and they had a great selection but upon check out my husband and I were asked for ID. My husband who is 48 had his but I didn't not. I am 44 years old, maybe if there was adequate lighting the staff could have actually seen I was well beyond being asked for my ID. I was asked to leave the store. I've never experienced this before. My husband was told he was lucky he wasn't told to leave too. But apparently its ok if I bring my children with me, I don't understand and I will not be returning. read more

Yet another "Total Beverage", but this time seemingly unrelated to the other two I've been to. This used to be a smaller store located further south on College, but moved to this larger spot next to Whole Foods a few years ago (same address, different suite number). The selection has grown to match the bigger shoes. This is one of the top five places to get beer along the Front Range, quite easily. As far as the size of the selection, it's in the top five on that for sure. Some samples are a little old, especially some of the obscurities in the coolers as well as the crappy lagers from faraway lands, but generally it's not as bad as many stores of this size that try to get every beer possible. I mean, I'm a beer freak of the highest order and still find new stuff to try pretty much every time I come here. The beer buyer seems to know good beer, and gets a nice selection of quality stuff in addition to the scattershot of international lagers and American micros. It's a motley assemblage of choices, but there's something here for virtually every beer hunter (unless you're looking for something like gotlandsdricke, of course). The liquor selection is pretty nice too...there's a sizable selection of most styles of booze, so it'd be a fine place to shop for that as well. The wine department seems competent, but I recall never finding much Aussie red to satisfy my curiousity. It was mostly common stuff, though this was years ago when I was shopping for that kinda thing. Things may have gotten more selective since then. And certainly not everyone is looking for rare stuff. Prices aren't great, but they're not too far out of line. There's so much to be found here, that you probably won't mind as your cart steadily fills up. For a one-stop shop, the prices are certainly tolerable enough to let yourself splurge. I'd be in bad shape if I lived close to this place. So overall, very highly recommended. For Belgian beer, I'd still chose Liquor Max in Loveland over this place, but for just general beer hunting, this is definitely #2. read more

Wilbur's has a huge selection of wine, beer, and liquor! The service is also incredibly kind and customer focused. I overheard a customer visiting from out of state who couldn't find a drink they were looking for and Mat, one of the owners, gave them his business card and said next time they are coming to town to call him and he'll order any drink they'd like to have ahead of time in store. I was planning my trip when I realized that not only is Dogfish Head sold in Colorado, but that also Theobroma is in season. I've been wanting to try this particular beer for over a year! i called two different liquor stores that told me that it would DEFINITELY be sold out by the time I arrived, and left it at that. Then I called Wilbur's. Not only did they hold back a few bottles of Theobroma for me, but their beer buyer actually took me through a quick tour of their selection, pointing out a few of his favorite selections. I ended up walking out with about $150 in beer, and my fridge and I have never been happier. Excellent customer service, at least in my experience. read more

Terrible service! Went in with someone with a foreign license (who wasn't purchasing AND is 33 yrs old) and they refused to serve me because of his ID. Most ridiculous policy I've ever encountered. What if you went in with your kids, would they refuse to sell to you then? We had spent over an hour in store finding everything we wanted (no-one was on hand to help) and had almost $400 worth of product to buy. Never going back. (Initial 1 start review) Was our favorite place to purchase beverages until they went to their extreme id policy. My wife (44) and myself (42) were declined a sale because unless everyone in your party has id they won't sell to you. Unless you have a minor child with no id, then they will sell. Makes total sense! The hassle results in us taking our business to Monte at Warehouse Liquor next to Sams. Better pricing, no hassle. UPDATE*** - I received a kind card of apology from the owner. You know when you walk into a liquor store and the first thing you see are shopping carts, there's going to be trouble. The only bad thing I could say about this store is it's size. It's almost too big. I can narrow down my purchase to 10, but just to get there takes time. If you're a craft beer fan, you're in good company here. It starts at the FRONT of the store and the watered-down, beechwood tasting, rice beer is in the BACK corner. Not sure about what new 6-pak to try?
