This pub was across the street from our bnb. Wasn't expecting much, and was so very pleasantly surprised. Everyone was happy with burgers, each had ordered a different temp, etc. All raved about the fries. They were a difficulcombo of crisp and tender. Perfect. I had the fish and chips....ever so slightly greasy and a bit overdone. However, they had shut off their grill just before we called our order in and never let on that they were ready to close. Well, to be fair they had a full house from a local band that was booked that night. I had wanted to give it a try, so we went and were seated in the boonies. Clearly they were overbooked and in the weeds. After 25mins without a menu or a beverage, we left and went to Cirrinos for a great meal, served in time for us to make the show we had tickets for. Wild Eye Pub is a wonderful resource in Grass Valley. The most meaningful thing the owners do is provide a venue for musicians--both professional and those just getting started. Places like Wild eye are few and far between. I don't understand why anyone would want to trash them so desperately as has been done by a couple of reviewers. I don't believe those two, either Eric C. or Hooley, have ever even visited the place. Wild Eye doesn't advertise itself as a gourmet restaurant. It is exactly what it says--a good pub with terrific music! Those of us with deep roots in this town do not appreciate these kinds of negative and hurtful comments about businesses in this town. If you don't care for it, don't go. But to deliberately try to hurt a business is unconscionable. Watch yourselves. And thank you Wild Eye Pub! read more

I don't know why people think the food is so great. They for sure are on the higher price end for an atmosphere as dingy as this place. It's been years since I have been in. Not sure if it's new owners...Only my second time, just cause I was nearby. I won't be doing that again... maybe it's the weird Covid vibe felt unwelcoming as well. read more

Just went there a couple days ago. Had been out at the Fair grounds and wanted to grab a bite to eat for lunch. We sat at the bar since the dining room was completely empty. The people are very friendly and the food was ok, we ordered salads and they were kind of skimpy on the lettuce, which is crazy. One order had salmon on it which was past it's prime, the shrimp was pretty good on the other salad. The worst part is it was cold in the bar, drafty. We were cold to begin with and never could get warmed up. Wasn't much fun eating with our jackets on either. They could also do something to lighten up the 1960's / 70's decor. The music is always good. The food is good. They are always under-staffed and poor service. I don't think I've ever gotten a drink within 20 minutes of sitting down. If you go to the bar to order for yourself, it will still be 15 - 20 minutes. Food takes 45 minutes or more. And that was true before Covid. The last time we were there for an outdoor band, we walked out after sitting for OVER AN HOUR and no service! Other than a glass of water at our reserved table, we weren't even acknowledged by any of the staff or the owner. After 40 minutes I went to the bar to get our own drinks, and waited 15 minutes there while the poor bartender was obviously overwhelmed. We came to eat, drink and enjoy the band. We left before we even finished that first drink. We knew it would be over an hour more before any food would arrive. The next place we went to, we were greeted as soon as we walked in, then again by every staff member that walked by. Food took about ten minutes and it was great. Excellent service all night long. We were happy to spend our money there and tip accordingly. If they ever staff the place proper, we would be glad to return. Until then, we just can't go back. read more

After the long awaited Grand Opening, I and two dining companions stopped by the Wild Eye Pub for lunch. Upon entering the gloomy dark blue dining area, which felt cold and uninviting... our first thought was to turn and run! After speaking among ourselves, we decided to stay and give the food a try. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The menu seemed somewhat limited, offering mostly pricey burgers and sanwhiches.We ordered the Salmon Salad ,which was good, but a little skimpy on the greens.The stuffed portabella mushroom was tasty and well priced, though we make better at home. The BLT w/avocado and pesto sandwhich sounded yummy, but was a huge dissappointment ! The sourdough bread was thinly sliced and small, offering only two strips of bacon,a thinly sliced tomatoe, a smear of pesto and a smear of avocado on each side of the bread, The lettuce had gone MIA, and had been forgotten and was nowhere to be found ! The puny BLT sandwhich was served with a very small portion of watermellon gazpacho, which was flavorful, but only filled half of a small cup. At a whopping $15 , the skimpy BLT sandwhich was clearly not the best meal deal to be found on the menu! My friend was so dissappointed with his BLT,he asked to speak wih the owners! Both owners arrived at our tableside. They were very friendly while listening to our complaints, but non yielding nevertheless. While defending the scant BLT ;they asked us to consider that all of the ingredients are locally sourced and that the bacon cost them $14 a pound...which is no excuse for offering such a tiny sandwhich ! After spending over $50 for lunch we left feeling disappointed,hungry and dissatisfied ! Needless to say; I doubt we will return ! read more

Cannot believe all the 5 and 4 stars. The venue is harsh and uninviting. While the staff were personable, they were only moderately efficient, bringing incorrect orders with sporadic delivery. The food was only a bit better than that served at McDonald's. Service was a amateurish. New owners mean well, but have a lot to learn. We discovered this place by accident on the way home from a piano recital. Fantastic food, Sierra ambience, and just in general a lovely place to go. They have COVID mask requirements, and those of us who are intelligent, sophisticated adults go along with the requirements without complaint. The requirements are set by the state and county and the staff are not to blame for any of it. It is counter productive and childish to whine about the facts of life. ANYWAY, I had the patty melt, perfectly done on local rye bread with onions grilled to perfection. Husband had the fish and chips and cleaned his plate. The staff were a lot of fun. The menu had several items I would have ordered but it was too cold out for a salad and the patty melt was the perfect quantity of food for me. We will be back. read more

For a pub just starting out these people make amazing food. Not only are they griendly but they are enthusiastic about their offerings. They pride themselves on using locally sourced produce and meats. On our first visit we tried the pepper stack salad and charcuterie platter. Both were excellent and very tasty. The charcuterie platter was perhaps the most extensive I have encountered with several kinds of dried fruit, nuts, cheese, olives and meats. A great selection for those that embrace variety as I do. My second visit was just as pleasing. I had the pork and sauerkraut sliders while my wife had the couscus and salmon salad. The salad was chilled and had great dill seasoning served with their house green goddess dressing. The sliders were tasty but perhaps needed a condiment. The locally made kraut was good but maybe was a little dry. Maybe I just enjoyed the salad more. Overall, I love the menu and attitude here. Nothing pretentious just good people who love to please. If you enjoy food well prepared I know of no better pub around. Give them a try. Oh, yeah, and a pretty good beer selection. read more

Went for the first time with the family. There were four of us and we each had a different entree and everyone, myself included, raved about the food. The service was good too. I love that much of the food is organic and grass fed, that's important to us, but best of all it was all delicious. My only nit, and it was a small one was that the Charcuterie Tray had too much dried fruit and not enough veggies. The sauces were great and we ended up running out of things to dip. Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday recently with my daughter. We elected to sit in and at the bar since the dining area was empty and, as others have said, kinda dark. By comparison the bar area is well lit but not overly, and has a much more intimate atmosphere. We were warmly greeted by the bartender who was attentive but not invasive. The lunch menu was extensive and between the appetizers and sandwiches made the final choice difficult. We were both more than satisfied with our choices and enjoyed a down to earth bar side conversation with one of the owners. While their history in the food industry may be limited, their imagination and willingness to learn as they grow, and grow they will, is to be applauded. I will be back, and trying some of their other offerings in the very near future. read more

Food was good. Portions were a bit small. Our server, Michele I believe , was a delightful person. The manager not so. We arrived at 4:30...7 of us celebrating a birthday. Lots of cocktails and wine. We had at least 4 appetizers/small plates. The band started at 6:30. The manager bird dogged us for the $5 cover. Her attitude didn't sit well with some of the guests. We payed our bill and took our party and money somewhere else. I felt the manager was very shortsighted about the cover. Oh well. Likely not to return any time soon. read more

The owner's of Wild Eye Pub have put their heart and soul into this place, and you can feel it the moment you step in. Our area needed a venue that provided good music, dance and food together and they have done that. I am particularly appreciative of Wild Eye Pub's care for our community in this time of Covid-19. This event has been very difficult for businesses and made more difficult by the new requirements for patrons/employees to wear a mask. It means a lot to me that they stepped up from the beginning on this issue. The three 1 star ratings that occurred on 7/6 and 7/7, (in a sea of 5 star reviews) looks suspect to me. Wow, just had the best lunch I've ever had in Grass Valley. We were expecting "pub food" hence the name, but boy were we mistaken. We dined on the best charcuterie plate we've ever eaten, the salmon civeche was devine, and the Sweet Stack, a roasted pepper and jicama salad to die for. Portions are generous and prices are amazing low. And the service is perfection with the nicest wait staff ever. This is our new go-to place in GV. I ate here with 3 friends. In a word, underwhelmed. The atmosphere is dark and filled with depressing furniture and objects. Our waitress must have started that night as she seemed unfamiliar with the menu, and I had to eat my soup with a fork, which was not difficult as it was super thick. My salad was OK, nothing memorable. When I asked my friends how their food was they all shrugged. Just ok. Our beers were good! This place is off the beaten path and will need to work harder to get people to come. read more

The Wild Eye Pub is not only one of the best eating places in town, they also have a good wine and beer list, and a full bar. Best of all, they provide a venue for a rich array of cultural events, from music to book readings. I highly recommend them as a place to rejuvenate during the week and to invite your out of town guests on the weekend. They are in compliance with the state's mandate on social distancing and the need to wear a mask when you move around the room. Because they have a large space (and a beautiful new floor!) you can remove your mask to enjoy your food and drink while seated at your table. So it remains one of the best places to eat and enjoy fine music while remaining safe in these troubling times. read more

We saw the place a few days ago and thought we'd try it as we were back in the area. I'm glad we did. The place was quiet and not too busy but it was a Sunday. I had a pub burger, not huge but very filling. Add bacon, it's good. The blue cheese potato salad was a wonderful side. Good beer selection too.
