Unfortunately had a horrible experience with a full balayage coloring service from Ashley Kniffin that left my hair with orange / dark yellow chunks despite walking through that I wanted a natural warm blonde tone and looking at a photo from Pinterest during a pre-appointment consultation. Ashley was nice to fix some of the areas after my appointment and I was scheduled to come in for a 3rd time to tone and blend more but my appointment as canceled last minute and I was told I would have to see a different stylist and pay on top of the $400 I already spent to fix it. Now I'm left with hair that needs to be fixed by another salon right before the holidays. Please do yourself a favor and do not make the mistake I did; go to a different salon. read more

I made made an appointment for today, 24 January, back in Nov, 2024, for a Brazilian Blowout with Lauren, who has given me great service on 3 previous appointments over the past year and half. Today I called to confirm this appointment and to see if possibly I could come in a few minutes early, and was told that I had no appointment on their schedule and "oh Lauren quit this week, and there is no one else that can help you". I had taken time off from work to make this appointment and am very upset that my time was wasted because no one bothered to give me a call explaining the situation. If I had cancelled this appointment with the lack of a 24 hour notice, I would have incurred a penalty of 50% of the service fee. This is not acceptable and very lousy customer service to a loyal client for more than 2 years. read more

This review is solely to express my honest opinion of my experience since my first visit. My first visit at this location was Jan 2023 for a Brazilian blowout. I came in without any doubts since I've gotten Brazilian blowouts in the past and 1 from this same salon but different location without any issues. I knew from the start by the way she was straightening my hair after applying the product something was wrong. It seemed so careless and super fast to where she wasn't going over it several times like I've seen done in past blowouts. After everything was done, I walked out very gloomy and rainy weather. That was the test to see if my hair would hold up and it didn't. It instantly frizzed up and was in complete shock that I just walked out of that salon and paid an insane amount just to have my hair frizz up right away. I gave it a few days and after my first wash I also noticed how thick my hair still was and how slow it was to air dry. Im typically not one to complain but after having spent so much money (in my opinion) and not being done correctly I needed to say something. So I called in and was told they couldn't do anything because it was freshly done and if they did it again it would ruin my hair to which I totally agreed with. They offered a milborn hair treatment (complimentary) which I've never heard of but I said eff it I need some sort of relief to be able to do my hair fast in the mornings. The only difference I felt with that treatment was for a few days then it went back to what it was. I was frustrated because once again I didn't get what I originally paid for from my first appointment. Fast forward to this past appointment I just had on 4/1 to redo my Brazilian because it's been 3 months and was safe to do so, I was expecting some sort of credit from what seemed to be what was gonna happen after I talked to the receptionist several times. I was completely shocked that I was going to have to pay full price again for a service that WAS NOT DONE CORRECTLY to begin with. In my past experiences from other beauty business if something isn't done correctly they fix it free of charge and then I tip very well because they honored their work. This wasn't the case here and I'm disappointed because I really loved the way McKenna did my Brazilian this time around. I am on day 3 of post salon blowout and my hair feels amazing. I do not want to discredit Mckenna's hard work during my Brazilian she re did (she wasn't the original stylist that did it in January) because she's amazing and gave me exactly what I always get when I do a Brazilian blowout. I just don't like how I was being told one thing in the beginning of all of this, only for me to end up paying full price for the service again. I can usually go 5-7 months in between Brazilians from the last stylists that have done them so having to pay full price again is a lot for me. read more

I had a rough travel delay (delays and traffic) on my way into Austin for work. I really wanted to get my haircut and was hoping to find something downtown near my hotel and Wild Orchid was flexible and friendly when I called to help me make it work. They got me in super last minute and I was even a few minutes late and they were super understanding. When I arrived, they gave me a much needed glass of wine and I even got some pretzels (I was starved so this was perfect). Kristin was wonderful and helped get me exactly what I was looking for. Wash, Cut, and Blow Dry for ~$65 or so bucks before tip. If I come back to Austin, which I'm sure I will (loved this city) -- I'll be back. I was in town for a wedding and needed to book a last minute appointment for a blowout and thankfully Wild Orchid had an opening! The salon is set on a nice little street with other shops and I love how they decorated it! The front is completely open, set with plants, flowers and chairs as if you're relaxing on your patio. They offer you beverages upon arrival which was super sweet. The hair wash area was set-up comfortably as well with a nice chair with support and a foot stool (which not even some of the expensive salons have!). The front desk staff as well as my stylist were kind and accommodating and answered all my questions and helped me achieve the look I was going for without making it complicated. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town for an event, or even if I just feel like having my hair done for fun! read more

It's completely surprising to me how this salon is still in business. I've waited an entire year for this review because that's how long it took to repair my hair after the botched job I had done here. I came in for an ombré and came out with something entirely different. Over $300 spent on a stylist completely bleaching my hair to the point of no return. I came back to have a fix and asked for a refund because it was still so far from what I wanted (last photo in the set) and was told no. Do not come here if you value your hair. I recently talked to a coworker about my experience and she had the exact same thing happen at this salon. Thankfully the professionals at salon milk + honey have helped me transform my hair but it has taken an entire year to get where I originally wanted to go. To the management here - please train your staff correctly. And if they don't know how to do a certain dye job, refer them to another stylist! read more

I am saddened to have to write this review but I'm hoping I can save someone else from experiencing what I'm going through. I had my first Brazilian blowout and j had great results. The second time which was ~15 weeks later was where things went horribly wrong. The first red flag was when my stylist "offered" to let me go home with the chemical on and just to be careful to not get it in my eyes when I wash it at home a couple hours later. Luckily I refused and wanted the full service. Well, fast forward 3 months and FIFTY percent of my hair has fallen out. My dermatologist said my hair follicles are damaged and when that happens it occurs 2-3 months post which aligns with the Brazilian blowout. If you research Brazilian and hair loss it is mind blowing how often this is occurring for people. Oddly enough many with the second time you have it done. Please please don't get Brazilian blowouts. There is a reason there aren't many places that do them. They are toxic and now I have to live my choice. I'm depressed now with the amount of hair I have lost. It's awful read more

I had my first appointment with Day Avery at Wild Orchid Salon this past Friday and I could not have been more pleased with the results. Recently, I decided that I wanted a balayage, and after having done my research, found out that it is a difficult coloring style to master. Now, I have suffered many botched hair attempts in my life, and as such, I find it very difficult to trust others with my hair. For the past few years, I have only trusted a stylist that I know personally at a salon owned by Paul Mitchell. The only problem is that, having moved to Austin, she would have been a three-hour drive back East. In the end, I decided that it was time to find a stylist in Austin. After having done research, I decided Wild Orchid Salon would be my best bet at finding the right person for the job, and by "right person", I mean someone who I could trust to fulfill my every hair need. I would be lying if I said I knew Day would be that person right off the bat. Originally, I had booked an appointment with another stylist who, as it turns out, was not seeing any new clientele. My original plans thwarted, I researched every other stylist at Wild Orchid Salon. The moment I discovered Day Avery opened her own salon called The Art Gallery, I knew she would be the right person; someone who values hair as art will treat each appointment as creating a new masterpiece. I could not have been more thrilled at the results. I showed her one picture - she studied it for a brief moment. "I'm not scared of going blonde," I said, "but I would rather have it be more of a strawberry-blonde; something that compliments my reddish-brown hair." She looked at me and said, "I know exactly what to do." The whole entire process took a few hours, but it was worth it. I made an appointment for a full balayage, blowout, and cut; a total of $195.00. At other hair salons, I've been charged more than the set price because my hair is thick and usually requires more dye. At Wild Orchid Salon, everything was very straightforward. I paid exactly what I was expecting to pay. I got exactly what I was hoping to get. I came in - it was a bit hectic finding the place, but I managed - and everything was relaxing and very home-like. Day was incredibly professional and accommodating; she did everything right as far as what I expect out of a visit, and I was even more impressed at her abilities not only as a stylist, but as an artist. The last two times I've left the salon I've needed a correction (once from a cut and once from a color). I wish the stylists would have confirmed more specifically what I wanted before they began. Two different stylists made assumptions that were not correct and communication would've solved both issues. The front desk staff is very kind, but I won't be coming back. I came in before my wedding to touch up my roots (and keep everything else the same!), and ended up with a whole new color (different than what I had and different than what I wanted) and my roots are now worse because the stylist added a lot of additional highlights into what I already had - making my hair look more solid than natural and making my roots look awful 5 days before my wedding. I've booked an appointment at a different salon to correct the color, and this will be an expensive and stressful fix for me as I have 36 hours before I fly out for my wedding... What the what!? I came here to update my review only to find I never left one in the first place. Shame on me! I've been here 5 times now and have seen Lorie, Kristi (no longer with the salon), Day, and Samuel. My willingness to try whoever works best with my schedule is proof of my confidence in the salon! That said... the partial baylayage I just got from Samuel is *amazing*. Like, the best color I've had in years. Maybe ever. My hair looks like it did when I was younger and playing outside all of the time. (I'm naturally dirty blonde now but oh-so-miss the light, cool blonde days of old.) It was my first baylayage (I usually do partial highlights) and I think I'm hooked. I also loved how speedy it was. Probably about 1:15, sans blow dry? Not bad. As for cuts, I'm in love with somebody south of the river and will continue to go to her for as long as I'm in Austin. However, she's very popular, and I'm a last minute planner... a combo that doesn't always work. Thus, I had Day Avery give me a trim a few months ago. Stumbled upon Ellen Fate at Wild Orchid when I had seen she did highlights for another Indian client and they were stunning, as were her long layers. Got in to see Ellen within a few weeks and she saved my hair, which was at multiple lengths and had weirdly short layers and a thick sheath of growing out bangs that sorta fuzzed up on top. The cut is fantastic, Ellen was great, and explained everything in ways I hadn't heard before - normally you're just nodding in the chair, because, sure why not. I got extensions from Karlee, she installed them wrong every time I went in to get them re-tabbed. She applied them so close to the scalp that it hurt, and put way too much hair between the tapes - causing product to get between the tape and make them slide down or fall out. I had to go in 30 minutes after I originally got them put in because one was already falling out (should've realized then she wasn't good at this). They fell out on dates, in class, etc., weeks before I was due for another install. First she tried suggesting it was another stylist who re-tabbed them once that messed them up, and then she said it was my fault/that I'm doing something to ruin these $800 extensions at home. Even after switching to the exact shampoo she told me to use, and not using any other products - still somehow it was my fault they were falling out ?? On top of that, by the end she had chopped off over half of the extensions length - which is extremely annoying considering you order and pay for them by length / weight. This is especially concerning because she's supposed to be an educator, but obviously needs much more education. I let her give me a full highlight one time, and when i went to my trusted (and trained:) hair stylist in houston, she said Karlee demolished the base I had for blonding. I didn't know how much I'd been screwed over until I talked to a few real hot heads professional a few months later. When I went to inform the salon and ask for a refund they said that she's ~the best at extensions~ they refused to show me the receipt from when they bought the extensions from hot heads (shady). Please train your staff better, and teach them to admit that they do not know how to do something, and suggest clients to other stylists when this comes up, instead of taking on a client and giving them a horrible service. Extremely expensive process just to have my hair ruined in so many ways. Also have have an extremely unprofessional and rude desk staff. read more

Let me tell you how incredible Zee is. I'm not even kidding. I went through 3 months of hell battling two other salons where the stylists royally screwed up my hair (didn't listen to what I wanted, weren't up front about what they could/could not do to my hair, highlighted it up top when I asked it to be an ombré look, put permanent color on top when it should have been semi, and the list goes on). And those were pricey salons that are well known!! I found Wild Orchid by chance, and the guy at the front recommended Zee for me. I wanted someone certified to perform Brazilian blowouts (she is!), and who knows what she's doing w color, highlights, and cuts (did I mention the last salon never rinsed me out after applying the Brazilian blowout chemical????). Holy Moses, she literally had me texting friends and family out of state about how good she was. She transformed my disaster of a head into something I'm so proud to "wear." My biggest mistake wasn't finding her sooner. I kid you not- I'm the world's biggest critic, an attorney through and through, etc. Zee is a hair goddess!!! My favorite part is that she LISTENS to you and what you want to do with your hair. She's HONEST about whether she can get you there or not, and she's upfront about expectations. Another great thing is that she wasn't juggling 3 clients at once. She just worked on me. That's it. Oh, and the salon doesn't try to push product/upsell. I've already told several good friends in the Austin area about how excited I am to finally look good....and they're already planning on calling to make appointments tomorrow. This was the most awful salon experience I've ever had. It was my second time coming to see Karlee, the first time I had a haircut, which she was running 15 minutes late to. During that haircut I felt like she was rushing through everything and didn't completely blow dry my hair. Chalked it up to her just being busy and possibly overbooked. And since a friend recommended her, I gave another chance. This time I scheduled a full balayage (3-hour appointment) over a month in advance. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment because I am ALWAYS early to appointments. They have a texting system that you use to let them know you have arrived. I proceeded to check in via text and they said "You're checked in! We'll let you know when we're ready for you." Great, so I go and sit outside the salon to wait until Karlee is done (they don't want customers inside the salon because of COVID and they don't have a waiting area). Fifteen minutes go by. Then 20. Okay, maybe she is just running late. Then after 30 minutes they call me and say, "Karlee is ready for you now." Fantastic! I go inside and the receptionist brings me over to the second part of the salon. I was explaining to her that I have been waiting and she responds with "I know, that happened to me. I waited in my car forever until they were ready." Walk into the second part of the salon and I greet Karlee with a "hi, how are you?", big smile on my face. She doesn't even say hello but instead go straight into "due to the timing, I won't have enough time to do your balayage." Stunned, my response was well I have been waiting for you this whole time. I was sitting outside the salon. She then says, "well I can't run behind on the rest of my day because of this." Mind you, I had scheduled a 3-hour appointment, which started at 3pm. This means her next appointment wasn't until 6pm. So, she maybe had one or two appointments after mine. Also, it was not my fault I was never notified of her being ready. She had zero empathy for the situation. I took the afternoon off from work, drove over 40 minutes and then waited for 30 minutes for my appointment to start. She didn't care about any of that; her time was more important than mine. She said she could do partial balayage or leave my hair wet. To me, the whole point of getting your hair done is to get the full experience, including a full blow dry. Plus, since she had run a little late on my first ever appointment with her and didn't fully dry my hair, so I had no desire to do that again. After going back and forth, with zero apologies on their side, she said "well I can reschedule you and offer a discount." Beyond frustrated and feeling like she just didn't want to do my hair that day and that there was no empathy for what I went through, we walked back to the main salon area to look for a new time. I would've had to wait another 2.5 weeks for my hair appointment. The entire time Karlee was cold and blunt. So I said that I will go somewhere else to get my hair done and left. And this point, I was fuming. It was incredibly unprofessional and rude to treat a customer that way, through no fault of my own! read more

High-end prices, Supercuts experience. This is a tiny shop that's lacking in all the things you'd expect in an "upscale salon." While they do offer you something to drink when you arrive, the customer service and amenities stop there. On top of that, I went in for a simple bob and was given an uneven, bad haircut. My stylist told me to book a complimentary trim appointment 3 weeks after my initial haircut, which I did. I figured I'd give them a chance to correct after spending nearly $100 on a haircut. But when I arrived, I felt totally unwelcomed. My stylist seemed annoyed that I was there for the trim, and only made my haircut worse than what he'd messed up 3 weeks prior. I had been to Wild Orchid several years ago, and was very pleased with the result! I went elsewhere at the recommendation of others, and after returning there recently, am very, very seriously questioning why I left! I recently returned for handed my issues over to Karlee, who has been a godsend!! At other salons, I have been through weft extension and removal twice, as well as a supposed "color correction" to the tune of over $700, and multiple appointments for full highlights that lasted 5+ hours, and cost upwards of $300+ each time. Karlee has me in and out in about 2 hours, and even after 3 months between appointments, I was STILL getting compliments on how beautiful my color was. Her attention to detail, her honesty, and willingness to listen to me, I mean TRULY listen, makes her an absolute ROCKSTAR stylist! Now only is she the greatest, the entire staff there is so unbelievably friendly not only to the clients, but to each other. They keep the salon in pristine condition at all times, and are always available to help. This is one of the best salons! I was having a hard time looking for salons here in Austin but im glad I chose this one! They were very welcoming when I walked in and since I had a mask on they offered to wear one also so I could be comfortable! Chelsea was super nice and is a great stylist!
