Let's start with the good. Breathtaking views, many nicely designed holes using the natural topography, Several tees can make this quite challenging or much less so (but in no event will this be an "easy" course... plenty of places you don't want to hit it, much slope on mostly elevated greens demand accuracy and good distance control. Warm and friendly staff, helpful anytime we needed them. Now the bad... and it's a lot. Many sand traps were marked "ground under repair"... full dirt and some rather large rocks. I'd say this is a short term thing but from reading other reviews it's been like this for a long time. Is it THAT HARD to bring in some truckloads of nice white sand, fix drainage issues, grab some shovels and make some distinct borders on the traps and upgrade the place ? Next are the fairways.. they all have HUNDREDS of poorly (or not at all) repaired divots... days, weeks or months worth of rounds.... come on, have some staff go out with carts and buckets of seed-filled soil and repair this nonsense ! I've seen better on $35 muni courses. Put buckets or containers of soil and seed on each cart !!! Many high end courses send out a team every night that starts on the first hole after the last group tees off and fills all the divots to preserve and recreate the fairways. Next let's talk about the signs directing the carts off the fairway to the paved paths.... I've never seen them so far away from the greens in my 30-plus years of avid golf.... on some holes you weren't allowed to drive within 100 yards of the green !!! That's ridiculous, especially given the huge divot problem affecting each and every fairway on the course. While we are on the topic of cart paths, there's some locations where there's a 30-40 foot walk up a grassy hill to get to the tee boxes... that's just wrong and easily corrected ! Lastly, there's no GPS on the carts. For a high daily fee course that positions itself as a deluxe resort course ($110 for the round) that's just cheap, pathetic and inexcusable. There's many $50 courses that have GPS on their carts. In summary the scenery and layout is nice, but it's worth $50 not $110. I don't know how the other courses on the property are, but I'm not sure I'm willing to throw this much money away again to try another. I don't mind paying big $$ for a top notch experience. Over the years I've played Doral ($250), Sawgrass ($600), Pinehurst #2 ($485) and many others, but this course seems to be just a money grab without the substance. read more

Really good place to play. A must play if your in the area. Fabulous Mountain View's. Course is usually in pretty great shape. Nice driving range and putting green. Interesting layout and quality golf. Some specular views. Wonderful par 3s. However it's Hit or Miss with the pace of play at any of the courses in the complex. Great 19th hole. read more

Save your money. Paid $160 for a Saturday round in late October. Not close to being worth it. The course was in pretty bad shape. Greens were dead in places. No consistency. Some traps were like concrete and fairways were less than in fair condition. No GPS, 5 hour round. Vibe was not great. Just a bad experience all the way around. The signage was even lousy as there are long drives between some holes and you has to guess a bit to avoid going wrong way. Went to Ballyowen earlier in year and had same experience. Layouts are nice but conditions are not. Most golf courses are in great shape this time of year. Not this one. Never again will I play one of these resort courses. That need to start over from beginning to end. read more

If shark feeding were a corporate outing, I'd agreed to go once a week in the summer as well. There's something about drinking, being in the sun, and not having to be in the office that makes golf such a rewarding experience (especially as you get better). I came here for a corporate event and we had a very good golf day. The course is wide open with very few trees (you won't lose many balls or have to alter your shot around trees, but the wind will grab a hold of your ball). The topography is great with views of the surrounding hills (thank god for golf carts because this would be a tough course to walk). This review is for the David Ledbetter Golf academy. They're not specifically on yelp I purchased a 1 hour golf lesson for my fiancé. We road up to crystal springs and the golf center is tucked behind the grand cascades lodge. It's a gorgeous course overlooking the mountains. We were met by his instructor Scott Holden. He was on time and ready to go. They have a custom sign made with the person who is taking the lesson name on it. I'm not sure if this is standard for every golf lesson at every golf academy but regardless I was impressed. Scott worked with my fiancé for 50 minutes. The last 10 minutes was dedicated to him reviewing video and images taken of mike. He recorded them with a voice over and sent it to him via email. They were tips for him to work one beyond the lesson. Again I was very impressed. I wasn't made aware that this service was included in the lesson and made the $200 fee well worth it. read more

We absolutely love this golf course, it's beautiful all summer and the greens are kept well year round. For the first time ever we went during October and it was stunning, all of the trees on the course were orange and red, beautiful. The most difficult hole on the course is hole 4, and my personal favorite hole is 7. It's over the water. Just get out and enjoy. And eat at the resort after, the cheese plate and burger are delish. read more

One of the Crystal Springs Resort courses, rated as top 100 public courses in U.S. Topography is described as "basin and ridge" it plays at 7,203 yards from the back tees and 5,024 from the forward tees. While weekend prices are around $120/round weekdays prices can go as low as $46 which includes cart (with rewards membership playing at twilight). If you're an avid golfer in Jersey, I strongly recommend this course and Ballyowen, at least once each. read more

One of my favorite golf courses in the Crystal Springs collection. This course has a blend of two personalities. There's wide open almost treeless expanses, as well as tree lined holes that play through big elevation changes, some with sweeping valley views, pretty cool. It's an interesting layout that justifies using the mandatory golf cart. It's a fair test of golf and each hole has it's own unique personality that will keep your interest from start to finish. The course , a Rodger Rulewich design is kept in great shape, with firm, fast greens and a good pace of play. This is a quality golf course, as you would expect for the price you will pay. (Do your homework and you can make it more affordable too ) The course doesn't pass back to the clubhouse until the 18 th hole, so there's a halfway house that serves terrific pub type grub (hot dogs, burgers and cold beer) as well as a cart girl to keep your motor running during the round . Don't forget to enjoy a cocktail at the end of the round at the expansive clubhouse overlooking the course. There's a crazy cool wine bar that you need to check out in the basement that they use for fancy dinner parties . It's really unique and looks like it would be memorable time dinning there, gotta try that myself sometime. Till then, I'll settle for a thoroughly enjoyable round of golf at Wild Turkey, one of my favorites... read more

Great course. I played a day after a heavy rain and it was cart path only which was understandable, but the paths are not setup well. They are 25-50 yards from tees, fairways and greens in some areas. Course was in great shape and fun to play, but not as challenging as i would have thought. Friendly staff and very attentive starters/rangers was nice. Food at the restaurant was better than most GCs in the area. Will definitely be back. read more

Three stars in an average of two very important parts of an avid golfer's experience: course conditions and pace of play (other guest esperiences). The course was absolutely fantastic - 5 stars! The greens were the highlight; rolling fast and true. The pace of play was atrocious and this fell fully into the ranger staff (or lack thereof) - 1 star. No rangers after #11, and two groups waiting on one tee box on holes #9, 10, 12, 13, 14, and 16. I can rationalize this (kind of) playing on a weekend if the course is extremely busy, but cannot accept it when there is no ranger presence and one group has 2+ holes open in front of them for almost the entire back nine. Food service in the bar is a little slow, too. Get there early if you want to eat breakfast before the round. read more

5 years i begged some guys to play this course (for my Bucket List) since i heard so many great things.I was greeted with beautiful surroundings/grounds/pools and nice staff (but the $95 reservation became $100 somehow...maybe they included $5 for the range i did not need but when telling me it was $100 - said "oh, the range was included"!!??) So it's the big tee time and the Starter tells us the SAND TRAPS are washed out and we can take ball out of them...So, my first reaction was, WHAT? $100 for SUB-STANDARD CONDITIONS?? Of course my 1st lifetime drive there went in the trap and he was surely correct. Which eventually got me to the green and most other greens which were less in shape than my County course. Then at the 2nd (or 3rd) hole, one sees the basic layout of the course which is sooooooo unimaginative...Some sand traps but all open and uninspiring. The back 9 had about 4 holes that had ditches and nuances but overall boring. General conditions all around were just ok. Lastly, the cart paths were poorly thought of as many times we had to park and walk 50 yds uphill to the green. And to kick sand in the face, we all needed drinks on this hot day and our $.18 cent bottles of Gatorade were $4.25 each!! So much for my bucket list!! (PS: i played Crystal Springs 30 yrs ago and although a little overly crazy outlay, it was still unique and worthwhile except the Cart Path Only rule back then was torturous and ruined the fun. I am unlikely to rush back to try Ballyowen, or Black Bear. GREAT GORGE is in great shape and alot of fun and Seniors play for $38 after getting the $50 card.) read more

This course was set up amazingly. Interesting holes, but very open. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars was because it wasn't manicured as well as I was expecting. Plenty of divets but I'm just nitpicking. The course was great and one of the better ones I have played. read more

Course is incredible. Staff and amenities(driving range, pro shop, restaurant) are great. Sets up more similar to Ballyowen than Crystal Springs for long stretches but it is unique in its own right and has become a favorite of mine. Ok golf course but trying to get someone to assist with scheduling is a challenge. Pro shop doesn't answer phone, no direct number, when you call the service, they pass you off to the pro shop and can't do anything more if/when nobody picks up. I buy foursomes for clients and am looking for another course where I can set up the tee times more efficiently. read more

This course is a real treat for anyone that is a North Jersey golfer. I have golfed here countless times and it is by far my most favorite course. They have a driving range which gives you complimentary golf balls, A bunker, and a putting green to warm up on. There are a lot of memorable holes like the first par 4 and the 7th par 3 over the canyon. The only reason I gave this course 4 start instead of 5 is because the starter and the staff controlling pace are starting to become old snobbish men. So I beg crystal springs to get this in control! I drive an hour just to play your course and I do not want to be greeted by someone who speaks to me like a misbehaving child. read more
