Take a trip to this Preserve and see the beautiful bison up close and personal while learning from the knowledgeable guide about this historical and beautiful animal. I love to explore and this site came up on Yelp when looking for things to do close to Pokagon State Park. It did not disappoint. The facility was a few miles from the Park. It's a short drive from the highway or Angola and just outside of Fremont. Nothing too far. The entrance was well marked and to her to the site you drive down a long graveled lane. There is ample parking just outside the gift shop which connects to a small cafe that serves Buffalo burgers with chips. There are restrooms located close to the parking lot which make it very convenient. A wood chipped walkway leads to the gift shop entrance where tickets can be purchased for a bumpy truck trailer ride into the field. There riders are just feet or inches away from the bison herd. It is evident the staff love their work and the animals they care for and/ or support. From the young, pleasant gentlemen in the gift shop who ran to ensure we didn't miss the last tour, to the cafe attendant who upon request gave free apples to young attendees, to our guide, "Three Paws", who lovingly answered all questions and provided detailed information about the bison. The relationships between everyone was friendly and familial-like. The star of the show; however, are the bison. Getting to see this once endangered animals up close and personal is rare. Knowing the part they played in history took me back to a time long ago. It is obvious the owner recognizes their importance and is doing his part to preserve it. Kudos to him and his staff. Having seen buffalo in the wild, I'd recommend Custer State Park in ND before this preserve. While the bathrooms were clean, the staff were not forthcoming regarding tours or information about the facility when we visited the gift shop. It was also a little off-putting that they were selling buffalo meat when it is a "preserve". The items in the gift shop were a bit tourist-trappy. read more

My husband and I dropped by here on our way back home from our weekend getaway. While it was very cold this past weekend, the experience was fantastic. Our guide was very informative and shared very interesting info on these majestic animals as well as that of the culture of Native Americans. I was able to get some decent pics despite being unable to go into the herd due to all the mud. I highly recommend coming here! read more

I had a similar experience to the other reviewer. We took the tour in the back of the pick up into the field with the bison. Those suckers are huge! A few come up close and the others are around going about their business. Everyone is very nice and you learn some good facts. Definitely worth $10 and an hour of your time. I like stops like this that are just enough and don't over step on your time. You can also stay here or eat here but we didn't. A nice stop passing through town. read more

Went here several years ago for lunch and enjoyed. Good food, great quality, decent price. Went back this summer and cafe was closed because they could not find anyone to work. Website is not up to date, facebook is not up to date, yelp is not up to date. They sell frozen raw meat now. Call before using information found on the web about them. read more

I really found this tour interesting and a great experience! The guides historical information and facts about the bison is great and is what makes the the tour! The gift shop looks exactly like a little place you'd find out west! I would have liked to stay a little closer to the herd so I could capture a few more pictures and have a little more time out there to watch! I would recommend going and experiencing these great moments with the bison and listening to the awesome information! read more

This is a really interesting private tourist attraction. We rented a lakehouse nearby and brought our two little boys to check it out. The highlight attraction is riding out to the middle of the herd in the back of a pick up truck. The guide we had (who may have been named Jim) must come from central casting for buffalo preserves - cowboy hat, western shirt, fingers like bratwurst. The whole tour start to finish was maybe 20-30 minutes, but the boys loved it. They really do a good job of talking about the animals and explaining that they're wild animals - thus no petting or getting off the truck. There's a really nice gift shop, and you can order lunch from the cafe and eat it on the grounds. I thought it was kind of funny that they serve buffalo, but it was really tasty. You can buy some for taking home in the gift shop. The grounds are really well kept and fun to walk around. They do other activities here - I guess you can camp or do a retreat of some kind. We didn't do that, but it was a good couple of hours and my two year old spent the next three days talking about "buhalo" One negative - the bathrooms are little rough. Just saying. read more

We go by the preserve regularly and finally made the stop. We are so glad we did. What a wonderful experience we had. I was truly honored to be in the presence of these amazing animals. During our tour, we had an eye opening experience. I had no idea that the bison was such an instrumental role in our nation's history. This trip has inspired me to learn more about Native Americans and the history of the U.S. Our tour guide, who was part Cherokee, was so knowledgeable, friendly and passionate. There is also a nice gift shop. I was also told that you can have events in one of their nice buildings. read more

We just finished up our third annual "Buffalo Weekend". It's the third year that my friends and I have loaded up vehicles full of encased meats and booze and tossed our sleeping bags in the back of our cars to go stay in tipis here. Yes, you read that right. Tipis. This year, 20 of us made the trek and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There's been a recent shift in management and the new folks in charge seem to have their act together, managing to strike that perfect balance between being hospitable hosts and leaving us the heck alone to enjoy ourselves. Firewood is provided, tipis are put up, and all we have to do is move ourselves on in. We dragged some picnic tables over, hung a hammock, strung up a slackline, got our assorted musical instruments out, and cozied up for a long weekend. The grounds are gorgeous, the people are great, and the buffalo are a delight. You can see stars and hear owls here- it feels good to get out of the city and kick back for a lazy weekend in the middle of nowhere. We'll be back next year for certain. read more

I was looking for something to do with my 2 nephews and found wild winds Buffalo preserve. I have lived in Fremont for years and can't believe I never visited the preserve. It was a perfect way to spend a couple of hours. Mr bill the guide was great the truck ride to see the Buffalos was exciting And all the kittens the kids got to play with where a bonus. I saw their sign on the Interstate and decided to check it out. So glad I did! Its a five minute drive to the Preserve from I69. The managers are a lovely young couple who are excited to share the history and daily operations with you. The tour is only ten dollars and they take you right out into the herd. This is a must do. I was able to do the tour and peruse the gift store in under an hour. For others with more time they have have a B&B and camping. read more

Our visit with 9 and 10 yr old grandchildren was great. Mike was outstanding in helping us see bison not only very closely but explaining the importance of these animals in our history but how they interact as a herd. We also took an hour trail ride and it was equally well done. We will be back again soon for their historical and Native American programs. read more

What a great place just happened across it saw their sign on the highway. People are very friendly and knew their stuff. Great atmostphere, stongly encourage taking the tour.
