A club vibe with a rocking, though non traditional, banh mi. There is electronic and house music playing, a laser light show in the ceiling, and the locals are friendly. The donuts are fresh and wonderful. The banh mi is really superb. They call it an Asian sandwich. The pizza is good, the sauce is super mild. I'd recommend this after a night of drinking. Otherwise it could be more herbed. But it's a solid choice for the price. And this place is open til 2am. We went at midnight and all the food was fresh.

"Hey, man. Arcata, man. It's like... Arcata, man." Ne'er have truer words been spoketh to me, from a sweet spirit in the central square of Arcata, just a half-block away from Don's Donuts. Arcata is one of those quintessential NorCal coast towns with an eclectic mix of charm, history, and quirkiness. The counterculture influence here is noteworthy, and sadly, there are quite a few folks just hanging out in the streets and public spaces with an aura of years of bad decisions and/or luck. They're as much a part of the landscape here as the colorful shops and small modest homes that line the streets of the town. Just off the main square is Don's Donuts and Pizza, a 24-hour deli/bakery with that special Arcata panache. On our last visit, there was a grungy looking fellow sitting on the ground outside the door, blasting clouds of blue sativa smoke into the narrow street. Didn't ask for a thing, and just met my smile and nod with a similar smile and nod. Not all who wander are lost. Man. As for Don's, it was the usual awesome donuts and awesome service. We ordered up a tall dozen-plus of our favorites, slipped the man a twenty, and headed for the door. No indoor seating with COVID rules, but no matter-- the park was brisk, cold, and lively with locals. When one started chasing a car yelling something about giant seagulls and threatening to kick everyone's... donkeys... in the next minute, we wrapped things up and headed back to the truck. Arcata, man. We don't miss the opportunity to hit Don's when we're traversing the north coast. We'll see you next time, friends.

Don's is a reliable, round-the-clock Arcata staple. The donuts and pizza are consistently delicious and the menu offers an incredible amount of variety. This is a true hole-in-the-wall establishment as you'll come across all walks of life while here - and it's part of what makes Don's such a fascinating place to visit. The seating area is very limited, especially as the twilight and late night/early morning hours approach. Don's isn't nearly as busy during the day as it is at night. I've always been impressed with how quickly the staff is able to get orders out even when it's incredibly packed. The food service here is a well-oiled machine. While it's possible that you'll have a drunken encounter with a patron or transient or be asked for money, if you're used to this area, that sort of thing is not atypical. You can always order your food to-go. Other than that, Don's is out here 24/7 doing this community a solid after almost every other Arcata eatery shutters its doors for the night.

This place was popping at 9pm with dance music, me and friends finally arrived to our hotel after a 4 hour drive and this was one of the only places open and we were so glad it was. I love dons but selling hard as rubber old cake donuts, come one, its flour it cost nothing to make. You never used to sell old donuts what happened to this place post covid its like you guys dont care anymore. I threw away all the cake donuts I purchased, usually theyre fresh this time obvious day plus old, I would say over a day as ive eaten your donuts the day after and they arent that bad. We went around 11:30AM on Saturday and the guy working the counter couldn't remember our super basic donut order because in his own words he was "super hungover". But he got the order right and that is mostly all we cared about. read more

I come here often when I'm craving donuts or want a cheap but yummy slice of pizza. The guy always working the front is really friendly and there's usually some kind of hip hop music playing. The donuts are usually good, they can be a little stale and dry towards later in the day but they have a decent selection to choose from. I like getting the donut holes to split with my kid (he usually doesn't like donuts). Their pizza slices get warmed up before being served to customers so they have the melted cheese and crispy crusts. read more

Went after the movies on a Friday night. Busy but well managed. I love donuts and have had them in lots of different places but these were so disappointing. Dough and fillings were just gross. On the other hand it was a busy place with lots of activity-the pizzas looked pretty good-just wish they'd up the quality of the donuts. read more

The apple fritter was huge, crisp, good amount of apples mixed in. I didn't try the other donuts, but grabbed some for work and they went pretty quickly so that's a good sign. They are open late which is really nice, I grabbed them around 10PM read more

We got fried rice, donuts, and boba smoothies for National Donut Day! It was amazing! The apple fritters are as big as your head. The cream-filled donuts are kept cold in the back, and the cream is light, sweet, and luscious. Highly recommend. This is a take and go place with no seating. read more

I came into this establishment to grab a slice of pizza. When I entered they were listening to incredibly inappropriate music that referenced oral sex. All of the people working there were dancing and incredibly unprofessional. The person that was supposed to be heating up my pizza completely had his mask off. I felt incredibly unsafe and I left immediately without even getting my money refunded to me. This place is not Covid compliant and is putting our community at risk. There was only one person correctly wearing a mask that was working here. Absolutely ridiculous! read more

Stopped briefly while driving through town. Had one of their bagel sandwiches and a few donuts. Loved how soft the bread was and the fresh ingredients. The donuts were also so soft and flavorful. Would definitely come back for more. Fast, easy, delicious food. read more

This place is not good. Donuts still taste like sourdough, and most likely not by choice. Also the horrible loud music is not a good place for young people or folks who have hearing issues. The people who work there are very nice and pleasant. High ratings must be due to late night clientele. Although the reality is a donut is just fried sugar, but that fried sugar can be fried well. read more

We stoped here on the way to redwood national park... great place- cheap eating. The pizza by the slice was decent, the wings is not your typical wings-- these wings isn't cover in any sauce but it it's coated in a light batter (similar to a beer batter) different but delicious. They also offered sandwiches ver similar to Bánh Mi that you can customize what you want in your sandwich. I also tried their donut and the apple fritters was very good. read more

Great hole in the wall donut shop in downtown just off the Plaza - an eclectic crowd that changes with the day, and an old school donut shop that also does huge pizza by the slice. Lots of killer donuts to choose from and they are made fresh twice daily. The aroma of fresh made donuts at the 5:30s is the best. Literally the most ridiculous experience I have. Ever had! People running into customers and flipping us up behind the counter??? Standing and dancing on the counters ??!? What in the world ? Health code violations ? There was 20 people behind the counter. I used to love dons but that has left such a bad taste . This deserves negative stars. read more

I cannot rate this place. We couldn't dine here. First, the…read moreone handicapped parking stall was blocked by the restaurants dumpster. We managed to nose our truck into the stall with a bit less room and walked around to the front entrance. Our disabled son has a service dog. She happens to be a standard Poodle that is clearly tagged, working-dog vested in hi-viz optic yellow with 'Service Dog' patches clearly worn and tethered to our son with a matching hi-viz short traffic lead. Imagine our surprise when walking into the restaurant we were told by the woman at the register that the dog was not allowed inside. We would have to put the dog outside on a hook. We politely countered, gesturing to the dog and explaining that as a service dog, she was legally allowed inside, to which the woman again stated that the dog would have to remain outside. On a hook... We chose rather than continue to waste time trying to get a seat or even place an order, to simply leave. We would spend our money elsewhere. FYI: California Vehicle Code - VEH § 22507.8 states that it is unlawful to block the access or use of the handicapped parking like that: https://codes.findlaw.com/ca/vehicle-code/veh-sect-22507-8/ And the ADA has clear direction about service animals and their permitted access in a restaurant setting: https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-2010-requirements/ These are very real legal issues. And we feel that the staff member made a choice to discriminate against us. Rather than raise a complaint with Humboldt County, we just won't return to this place, nor will we recommend eating here.

I stayed the night at the hotel next-door, I called up placed my order and I walked over and grabbed the pizza. If that simple, not much really else to say except for the pizza was really good and the service was great. I love round table pizza and it was nice to finally have it again because the one by my house in Southern California Disappeared a few years ago.

The cheese was thin, as was the crust, but this is what you'd expect if a pizza joint that styles itself after New York. The ambience is typical of a dedicated pizza joint; the seating is a bit plain, not much going on in terms of music, but it's carried by other patrons and their interesting conversations. The staff is polite enough, but you can tell they get overwhelmed by all the patronage they receive, so don't expect to make small talk. Overall, it's a middle of the road experience. The flavors are good, for their specialty pizzas anyway, and the culture surrounding the restaurant is exceptional for a Cali pizza place. Very good for a relatively small college town in the Pacific Northwest. I'd recommend going at least once.

I had the cheese and garlic fries. I thought they were a bit pricey, but the order was a decent sized portion that four of us shared. The garlic was sharp and tangy, and appeared to be raw. The cheese was more like a "nacho" cheese consistency. If I had to do it again, I would ask if there was an alternate type of cheese. The side salad was generous and fresh, with the standard dressing options (balsamic, ranch, honey mustard). We asked for the dressing on the side and they were okay with it. The cup of tomato basil soup was generous and tasty. This is an "order, pay, and pick up food" place. So, if you are eating in, have someone grab a table if it's crowded. We placed our orders, paid and gave a name for the order. We were later in the day, so there were tables available. Our name was called and we got up to pick up the food. There are metal forks and spoons (also plastic), napkins, and condiments across from the beverage machine. Burgers are served in baskets, the salads came in not-paper bowls, and the soup was in a melamine cup. The staff was friendly and efficient in an open seating set-up. We bussed our own plates.

Fish was flakey and the chimichurri gave a nice flavor and acidity. Staff was friendly and food was out fast. Overall: 3.5/5

I save half for the next day and sometimes add an egg on it for breakfast. Reheating in cast iron pan brings the crust back to life and I don't put it in the frig overnight to also keep the crust good and i turn the pizza upside down so crust not soggy but with his pizza no much chance of that cause he does some sort of dough magic that makes his crust hold and not soak up the toppings.

He makes everyone feel welcome, like Cheers! Miki and I love visiting Elliot on our Sunday rides. I personally look forward to his chill vibe. Also, there's no better place to take in a sunny afternoon with a "Frothy" beverage....until recently, that is. This was the go to, Sunday Funday spot for Miki and me. We showed up last week, only to find out that they were closing at 2pm. Now, as of today, at 1pm...No Elliot! No cheerful greeting with a great vibe to add to our Sunday Fun. I don't know what is going on. It's confusing and I know people want consistency, me included. We want our favorite people to serve us our favorite things, as we are used to getting them. Elliot is the main reason I will stick around, though. I wish Froth the best of luck through whatever it is that they are going through. I really love the place on many levels. Much Love!

This place is a joke, went in there with 8 year old my daughter to get a donut. These little wanna be be hard core Arcata kids were listening to explicit gangster rap. (Nothing against gangster rap what's so ever. But in a place with little kids. F this F that, bang that P) I'm mean seriously in a place where there there are kids. There's a time and a place. Don's has been in at at a forever, but was much better before the current owners bought it. Why? Because it is the MAGNET for trouble! They allow meth addicts, heroine addicts, drunks and just about anyone to congregate there ,do drug deals IN the shop or in front. They do nothing about it because they make money off them. Their location is THE most crime ridden spot in downtown Arcata! Sure, people like their donuts, but if you'd seem what I've seen, fights, rats in the shop, etc you'd never step foot in there! read more

I had a horrible experience last night. The older Asian woman was the rudest person I've ever encountered in customer service. She was straight up yelling at me as I was ordering. I thought maybe it was a cultural difference, but she didn't treat the people behind me in line the same way. She let "regulars" skip the line and was just overall very rude. The way she acted made me afraid to ask for anything else. The food is okay, but the service deserves negative stars. read more

So this place is like a magnet for the crazies of Arcata, which is like everyone. Theres a guy who frequents it who raps in a Smegle voice. Also, I've gotten shoved a couple times by people who thought I was their bro, but they were just drunk as fuck. A decent place early on a weekday, but avoid it late on a weekend. read more

I love Don's! The staff is friendly even if the customers are not, the food is good and inexpensive. I would rate it 5 stars just for the smell of fresh donuts I get as I walk by in the evenings! I love the pizza and the donuts aren't bad at all. One of my regular haunts! read more
