It's my favorite campground when I'm looking for seclusion. It seems like you're hours from the city, but it's just about an hour and a half from Lexington and 20 minutes or so from the interstate. The Grove is it's sister property, so if there isn't spots available here, there may be some at The Grove. Loops D & H are available via reservation, the other loops are walk up. This time we stayed in loop G area... G2 was our site and through the trees, you could see the lake. The paved pad was long and then there were steps that led to the huge graveled fire pit area. Perfect for tent camping. It wasn't considered a premium or double site, but compared to state resort park sites, it was at least twice as big. The shower house was decent. The water cold and the fact that the water on the shower was controlled by a button that you had to push every 30 seconds, was a bit annoying. I was thankful for hand soap and toilet paper though. The lady at check-in was a hot mess. She kept answering her cell phone and the landline phone instead of waiting on us. She didn't know which sites were lake side and wouldn't let us pay, look to choose a site, drop off and come back. She made us tow the camper down the narrow paths, choose a spot and then come back to pay with the camper in tow. Then it took her at least 10 minutes to write up the ticket, etc. After a 45 minute fiasco, we finally set up in the dark. Lesson learned... Remember what site # that you want, if you've not been there, study the map before you go. Things to consider are if you want to be by the lake, the shower house, or away from other sites. It's an American Land and Leisure run campground. I can't really figure out the ins and outs of the structurally run campgrounds... I've stayed at the Cor of Engineer, state park and KOA campgrounds. The American Land and Leisure campgrounds and sites seem to be the biggest and the most inexpensive.

Threw a wrench in our plans but I appreciated the prudence when it comes to safety. The water level didn't rise too much and they allowed us set up our camp right along the river the next morning. The view was great and the campground was quiet. It beats camping at the state campgrounds because it is all primitive camping, there isn't a bunch of people coming and going, and NO RV's! Management was at the front of the grounds 24/7 but wasn't invading your privacy by policing the grounds. They were really nice and gave advice on what to do in the area. Plenty of activities around the campground. Hiking, river trips, rock climbing, zip lines, bike trails, nature centers. We personally hiked various trails for two days and the views and geographical features were some of the most interesting I've seen.

They said it shouldn't be there. They then lied and said they gave me the AAA discount. My friend who never requested a discount paid the same as me. I went to Good Sam website and this park is listed as a Good Sam park. Anyway, I still would not recommend staying here. You would be just as well down the road at the Wal-Mart parking lot. This is directly across from a truck stop and the trucks use their exhaust brakes. Very noisy all night long. Then the first night at 5am, 5:30am AND 6am the trash trucks picked up the trash from all the dumpsters in the area. One after another. The last guy must have been in a bad mood. It sounded like a war zone. If that's not enough I will say the lights all around make it seem like daylight. This park is in the middle of a very populated area.

Camped here on a Saturday night recently -- I'd rented a cabin in the Gorge and backpacked here…read moreseveral times, but never car-camped. I think I was a little afraid that the campground would be similar to Miguel's -- lots of party-time people and little privacy. However, our small group was pleasantly surprised that many of the sites had their own sense of "place." While few of the sites are completely secluded, they at least have plenty of trees around them to give you a tiny bit of privacy. We got a double-pad site since we had two tents, and this was more than enough room. The pads are very generously sized, so if you have one of those ginormous 8-person tents that are bigger than a Manhattan studio apartment, you should have no issue setting it up. Each site comes with a picnic table (ours had 2 but not sure if that was because it was a double?) and a fire pit. You can purchase wood and ice at the campsite host. There are also some short but fun trails that lead off from Koomer Ridge, and I think at least one connects to the Rough Trail, which is a very long trail going through the Gorge that also lives up to its name. The only downside is you can hear the traffic from the road fairly easy, but giving how close the campground is to the main road, this isn't really surprising. I just figure it's part of the territory with car camping as opposed to backpacking.

Wonderful, spacious sites and nice clean facilities - what more do you really need? The campground is conveniently located near the highway and for short drives to the surrounding area for hiking, sightseeing and whatnot. There is access to at least one cliff trail at several points around the campground, and you're never too far from a pit toilet. But if those aren't your idea of a nice place to do your business, the actual restroom and shower facilities are amazingly clean. My only complaint is that the frogs don't know what "quiet time" means.

Staff was friendly. We stayed in a cabin and they're alright. Some of the stuff inside is dated but seemed to be cleaned well enough for us and everything inside worked. Cumberland Park is one of my favorite state parks to visit. We have visited twice and loved it both…read moretimes. The first visit we stayed during covid in December so it was just our group of 4 and one other couple staying in the resort. It was nice because it felt so private. We stayed in the resort rooms and we were surprised with how nice they are. Everything was clean. It was a bit small but we made it work. The second visit we stayed in their cabins and preferred it more. we got 2 bedrooms and each one had 2 beds so all of us slept comfortably. I loved that the cabin comes with a full kitchen and table so we spent our night playing board games. The park itself has so much to do. There are tons of hiking trails, horseback riding and even boat tours that take you up close to the waterfall. You have to go to the Moon bow at least once in your lifetime. It's when the moon hits the water at the right angle and you see a rainbow at night. It is a cool experience but it does get really crowded so you may want to come early. Cumberland Falls gave me unrealistic expectations for state parks because this what I feel like most state parks should be like.

I've been here several times, sometimes for just a day, and a few times camping nearby. You can take the sky lift up to the natural bridge, or you can hike up. There is a short trail (1/3 of a mile) that leads to a nice overlook where you can view the natural bridge from a distance. There are birds and wildlife to observe. And it is nice to visit in different seasons. There are good restaurants and touristy places to shop in the area too.

Amazing park, pretty big and with tons of running trails. Perfect for bikes and walking, golf course seems pretty good also. Have this small office with a park ranger there where I suppose that there´s some one to give you information. Free entrance and the road is really easy to drive, no difficult to get there. I can´t tell if you can camp there, because like I said, there was no one around to ask. Anyways, was lovely to see that there are this kind of parks and really there are a lot of parks around here in KY! Safe travels!!
