Went in to see this woman for a follow up to my ultra sound as a high risk breast cancer patient. She Slammed the door into a staff member's face as they knocked on the door and tried to open. She yelled at me and flat out spoke rudely to me. It was as if some other person came out of her. Weird, weird woman. My name is different to protect my privacy. I would not want to be treated by this personality if facing the stress if uncertainty of my health and life. read more

I was referred to Dr. Wilde for a consultation when I met her, I was pleased with her explanations of the cancer I had, gave me hope and looking forward for the treatment or whatever was next. In my next follow up appointment with her she told me she couldn't take care of me she was going on a leave I broke down in tears I did not expect that. Now after surgery done by another excellent surgeon and looking back, I am glad that I was not seen by her. I wish her well but, I thank God she didn't perform surgery on me. read more

Having begun the breast cancer journey with a good prognosis it quickly became a nightmare. I waited 1 & 2 hours for my appointments with her and then she spends maybe 5 minutes with you being rude, dismissive, even insulting. She explained nothing to me regarding surgery, rather handed me a Susan Koman booklet and at my next appointment asked me "what's it going to be: a lumpectomy or a mastectomy...I need to hear you say it". She did not get clean margins and now I need radiation. I've been in constant pain 2.5 months post surgery. She did a "contour" of my breast that she never explained or consulted me about. That is unacceptable! I'm concerned that I may have to have a mastectomy at some point to correct this. In reading other reviews she either rates hot or very cold. I would not risk it. read more

This is a top-notch surgeon with an unbelievable background and education. She is extremely polished and professional and gives a feeling of complete confidence to her patients. I feel very fortunate to have had her as my doctor. She takes plenty of time with each and every patient. This is cancer here, we don't want to be rushed. For this reason, you will wait longer than your appointment time because she is still spending time with the previous patient. I am completely OK with that. I too had an excellent experience upon first meeting Dr. Wilde. I was expecting to need a second opinion based on some of the reviews but after meeting with Dr. Wilde, I was 100% confident in my decision to move forward with her as my breast surgeon. She took the time to review and explain my condition and biopsy results in such a way that I could understand it and answered every question I had. I found her very friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable. She also has an amazing woman named Renee that does patient scheduling for all of the other specialists that work together as a medical team. I didn't have to chase down appointments with my oncologist, radiation oncologist, genetic counseling or imaging because Renee did it all for me. My surgery is scheduled for April and I will update this review following that procedure. The only downside was the wait time. We did wait quite awhile to see Dr. Wilde but she more than made up for it by spending well over an hour with my boyfriend and I. read more

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Wilde! Like previous comments I had many recommendations when diagnosed with breast cancer, like two OB/GYN doctors. One of them even stated "If his wife or daughter was diagnosed, she would be going to Dr.Wilde!" Although busy, she would answer every question I had, even the tough ones. A consummate professional. She isn't going to tell you what you want hear or candy coat but you can tell she cares and extremely knowledgeable. I remember asking her if she were to have a type of breast cancer (triple negative, her2+ etc) which is the better/easier to have? She answered "None!" And something to effect that there wasn't a good cancer. "It's evil but her team is even more evil to get it!"That was all I needed to hear to know she was the right warrior for me! Her staff is caring as well with scheduling appointments not just with her office, but appointments for the entire team of oncology, radiation, etc. Trying to call for appointments with various doctors is the last thing you want to deal with when facing this news. One last comment I have to commend Dr. Wilde is she had what looked like a book of all the notes, test scores, biopsies etc on paper in my file from the beginning of my diagnosis. She would bring the file in each appointment to document. When Scripps computer system went down, from the hack, for a month, other doctors were calling for copies since they didn't have access to the system. She however always knew what was going on with me. My double mastectomy a success and margins clear! So far, my experience with Dr. Mary K. Wilde , MD has been good. I am having breast cancer surgery with Dr. Wilde next week. I convinced that will be a sucess! I believe this because of her credentials, experience and overall knowledge in this subject. I also believe my cancer has been throughly study by her. DCIS early stage. I will post before and after pictures. My daughter will be taking professional pictures of my breasts before and after. I think this will clarify any concerns, misconceptions, including any bad or good reputaion. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and Anderson MD is suppose to cutting edge and they are.. I don't expect surgeons to be warm and fuzzy, I work in health care, but when I ask a question I expect a thorough answer to my concerns, the answer I got from Dr Wilde was it was normal.., Dr Wilde did not explain what the lump in my breast was after surgery, was it a hematoma, or the biosorb product they inserted at time of surgery ? The surgeon never told me I was getting a breast lift, I had no idea it was part of the procedure... I use the portal to ask follow up questions and the person responding never uses their name or credentials, I never knew who is giving the information..I would say that Dr Wilde is a good surgeon but her bedside manner is horrible, saying that ibuprofen and Tylenol is adequate for a lumpectomy is ridiculous and that it would feel like a sprained ankle is a joke. As a patient I am scared and unsure, if I ask a question I want a educated response so I may understand what is going on.., not to be told in a follow up appt that my appointment is only 15 minutes and asked if I look that question up, of course I looked up the question I just asked.. I had a lumpectomy with a biozorb implant 5 weeks ago and had no idea of the side effects, pain or chance of infection. I can't lay on my side or stomach to sleep., I was told by Dr Wilde to sleep standing up..I really don't think she's funny at all.. The radiologist said the biozorb is helpful for him to radiate the correct spot, but shortly after I heal from radiation I am getting it taken out... read more

I am beyond happy with my choice to go with Dr. Wilde. She's the director of the Scripps Polster breast cancer center, and she knows her stuff! I have never been rushed or experienced lack of compassion from her. My first meeting lasted well over an hour and each visit since has been thorough - I always leave with a sense of calm and relief. I'm a visual learner so she took the time to draw pictures of possibilities depending on my final pathology results. We consulted with her quite early in the game, and she ended up providing me with more information than my medical oncologist did (naturally, she's more involved in the anatomy of the tumor, which I'm most fascinated by). Her rescheduling coordinator, Renee, also deserves a medal of awesomeness. She's taken care of scheduling all of my tests and has friendly relationships with all of the office staff of the places I needed appointments in. Very quick and thorough! Being 28 and diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer is definitely not what I was expecting. However, given the circumstances, I breathe a bit easier knowing that Dr. Mary Wilde is part of my team. My bilateral mastectomy is scheduled for mid-July. I'll update my review then. read more

I had a prophylactic double mastectomy with sentenal node testing in 2014 by Dr. Wilde. While her bedside manner is a bit rough, she knows her stuff. She squeezed me in so I knew our meeting would be short. As we weren't dealing with cancer, there was no need to discuss treatment outside of whether to test the nodes (yes), keep the nipples (never; my nipple reconstruction, done by the plastic surgeon, and Vinnie Meyer nipple tattoos look 100% natural). She recommended Dr.John Apostilides as my plastic surgeon. My complaints had more to do with pain control as I was released before my pain was controlled and there was confusion over who the releasing surgeon was. I brought the issue to her attention and a new protocol on pain management resulted for future patients. Dr Wilde is a well trained breast surgeon. She recieved her training at UCSF. She absolutely knows how to remove lymph nodes and give good margins when resecting breast tissue. She does have a "clipped" manner. She is extremely busy. She knows her stuff and talked me out of keeping my nipples in two minutes. She also talked me into sentenal node testing and the removal of a small number of nodes for testing, even though I did not believe I had cancer. She gave me good reasons for both and she was right. When I had to return to the hospital for a possible infection, she was out of town yet called me personally to check on me and praised me for getting to the hospital so quickly after I developed a temperature, as the infection did not have time to take hold (it was my fault as I over did). If you want a hand holder, she's not for you. If you want a skilled breast surgeon, go to her. read more

Dr. Mary Wilde has a horrible god-complex, and zero compassion for her patients. My mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer and we were referred to Mary Wilde by a general surgeon because my mother needs lymph nodes removed that are positive for cancer. Instead of admitting to us that it was not in her scope of practice and skill level for her to be able to remove them because they are under the muscle, she became very standoffish, was very abrupt, and literally kicked us out of her office saying that we shouldn't even be there because we were not following the proper steps and protocol for cancer treatment. She told us, "this appointment never even happened!" Very unprofessional and quite full of herself. She is one of those female professionals who have a huge chip on their shoulder. My mother left the office in tears, and Mary still gets her overpaid income from another cancer patient. Now I know why people say that cancer is big business! Do yourself a favor and go to a professional who has more to offer than skill with a scalpel. People like Mary should be in the medical field behind a microscope, not dealing with patients. read more

I can't believe the reviews that are so nasty. I was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I thought my first general surgeon in north county was good but the plastic surgeon he referred me to was just full of himself and looked at me when I had questions like, how dare I question what his plans are. Therefore, I called my general surgeon up and asked if he worked with any other plastic surgeon, no. I then when outside of the north county "group" and researched other plastic surgeons in San Diego and found one I was very impressed with that was within my "group", just not in north county. Rather than having her own practice as the previous P.S. had and doing all sorts of plastic surgery, she specializes in breast cancer, bingo! I then found out that I could no longer use my north county surgeon if I chose her so back to the drawing board in researching a new general surgeon. Fortunately, the plastic surgeon I chose works with Dr Wilde who also specializes in breast cancer - I just had to see if my insurance approves...again, bingo! My first visit with Dr Wilde, with my sister, was so much different than the first general surgeon I saw. Instead of a 15 minute review of what type of cancer I have, options for surgery and referring me directly to only the plastic surgeon - Dr Wilde took a full 90 minutes going into great detail about my pathology report, explaining the difference in the type of cancer I have vs the more common variety, my family history, options and the fact that without visiting 5 other specialists such as an oncologist, radiologist, geneticist, etc, I couldn't make an educational, informed decision about which option I wanted to go with and she's all about the patient being well informed every step of the way. She was extremely personable and friendly, not at all cold and the detail she went into went above and beyond my first surgeon - my sister and I practically did a happy dance when we left her office, we finally felt like someone truly cared and was just not going thru the motions. I'm blessed with excellent insurance and very quick authorizations so seeing these other specialists before I/we make the decision of how we want to proceed will not take much time and I'm doubly blessed that my cancer is slow growing so I'm not stressed about getting a surgery date, I prefer to be well informed in order to make the right decision for me and I couldn't be more thrilled with Dr Wilde being on my team of Drs. When being diagnosed with something so life-changing it is so important to be comfortable with and trusting your Dr. Although I have not yet met my P.S., I just feel like with two women who specialize in breast cancer, I'm in excellent hands. read more

Incompetent dishonest bully, there are many comments in cancer support groups from other woman who feel the same way. Egotistical inconsiderate narcissist, treats her patients and staff with no respect. Yelled at me, pointed her finger in my face, yelled at her staff member who was trying to assist me. Writes lies and incorrect comments in medical records. Told me very important test was normal, I read report, questioned her about inconsistencies, she assured me test was normal. When I went in for appointment, test results were far from normal. Ordered test we'd already discussed at previous appointment and decided against, because she didn't take notes at previous appointment. Wasted my time, did nothing to treat my cancer. She has god complex, not sure how someone who treats patients, her staff like she does becomes director of medical facility. She shouldn't have anyone under her care, she doesn't know how to treat people. read more

I'm the type that does significant research before choosing a medical provider. Dr. Wilde's credentials are so impressive that it was a no brainer in choosing her to be the surgeon for my partial mastectomy. I was not disappointed. She explained everything thoroughly and was straightforward in her communication. She knew exactly how to express both bad news and good news - preventing any angst I could have had. I am dismayed at the negative reviews for Dr. Mary K. Wilde because I felt so fortunate to have been referred to her after having a breast lump diagnosed earlier this year. My experience was positive from the first visit, even from the first call, when staff fit me in the day before Dr. Wilde was to be gone for a week. When I met Dr. Wilde I found that she gives clear information, encourages questions and gives detailed careful answers. She explains the diagnosis, what the process of information-gathering and treatment will be, and who is on her team: outstanding oncologists who also stressed information and were happy to answer all of our questions. Once I made my treatment decision (a single full mastectomy), Dr. Wilde was able to give me a good idea of what I would experience, and she's an excellent surgeon - my straight beautiful scar testifies to that. Dr. Wilde's office is well-run, her staff was supportive, and her system ensured that my case progressed smoothly. Appointments I needed with any of her team oncologists or for lab work were scheduled for me by her office during my visits, and I so appreciated that, at a complicated and emotional time, I did not also have to make and juggle the timing of the various medical appointments required. Dr. Wilde is exceptionally knowledgeable, receptive to patient's ideas and questions, and always solution-oriented in her attitude, which is very helpful for breast cancer patients like me. Her specialized knowledge led me to have a lumpectomy on one side, before a bilateral mastectomy. One side did not appear to have cancer (instead, atypical lobular hyperplasia ("ALH"), which is not cancer but some patients with this condition are at risk for cancer). The purpose of the lumpectomy was to find out if the ALH had micro cancer cells at all; the benefit to me of discovering that there was no cancer in that side was that I didn't have to have any lumphnodes removed on that side. So, no limb alert, etc. Good idea--I would never have known to even ask: she suggested it. Thank you Dr. Wilde! Then, I had a bilateral mastectomy which was rather intense; and I opted for the skin-saving nipple-sparing type (didn't know if that would actually happen until the surgery because I had to have 'clear margins' of tissue where no cancer existed near the skin and nipples). So, I asked for it and Dr. Wilde concurred that they would try to do that (assuming clear margins), and even said that she believed using this approach will become more common practice because it really helps women when they can have that option and still get rid of the cancer. She cares. Thoughtful and solution-oriented is a good descriptor. So, I am thankful to have had the skin-saving, nipple-sparing mastectomy because I had clear enough margins (Angelina Jolie had this type and also advocated for women to ask for it if they have the option). Good, precise surgeons, like Dr. Wilde, make such a difference. I did not use pain medicine after the surgery (used ice packs instead)--well, I was given pain medicine once while in the hospital recovering but they didn't really get rid of the pain for me; the ice packs actually did (15 minutes on, 20 minutes off and sometimes 15 minutes on, sleep for however long you feel like, then 15 minutes on again). Scripps also gave aroma therapy (you'll think this is weird but it really works)--Margoram essential oil for pain and Ginger essential oil for nausea (from anti-biotics that don't really agree with me). Anyway, both of these (ice and breathing in essential oils). The other point that I didn't know is that breathing deeply helps the lungs stay clean to reduce chance of lung infection developing (breath in through mouth--diaphramatically, hold the breathe and exhale slowly). Dr. Wilde also wants patients to get up and walk around as soon as possible and gradually extend the time; I was walking around the hospital floor the day after my mastectomy and even started counting my steps (continued after returning home of course). In my opinion, these four practical strategies also helped me heal quicker. She worked with a plastic surgeon for reconstruction (oncologist breast cancer surgeons are not plastic surgeons--they are there to get rid of the cancer, which is hugely the important priority of course). Recommending Dr. John Apostoledes proved to be excellent for me. Immediately after Dr. Wilde finished the bilateral mastectomy, Dr. Apostoledes finished the surgery by beginning the reconstruction process, which required two more surgeries after that (spaced 3 months apart). She recommended Dr. Sonia Ali for oncology and Dr. Kenneth Shimizu for radiation treatment who are also excellent. In essence, Dr. Wilde also acted in a project leadership role (the project being 'get rid of breast cancer for me' and hopefully not have a recurrence), which included more comprehensive tests, scans and biopsy's than I knew even existed--way before doing any kind of surgery. She cares, knows how to apply her expertise, is precise and focused. Summarily, I want to recommend Dr. Wilde because she made a huge positive difference for my life and for many, many other women, too. She is thoughtful, focused, solution-oriented, and seems to know how to respond to unexpected issues and ameliorate gaps intuitively due to her strong, specialized knowledge. Words cannot express how thankful I am that Dr. Mary Wilde decided to specialize in helping women with breast cancer instead of some other type of surgery (I learned later that she used to be a trauma surgeon before--no wonder nothing phases her and she has such a strong focus to make things work--solution-oriented).
