Dr. Worsey is one of the greatest physicians we have ever met! My beloved presented with Fournier's gangrene which resulted in sepsis at 48 years old. Dr. Worsey did not waste anytime and immediately got him into surgery, as his organs were starting to shut down. After multiple emergency surgeries and medications, Dr. Worsey saved his life. David was at Scripps La Jolla for over a month with a Wound Vac and an ileostomy which was reversed successfully by Dr. Worsey a few months later. After a month at Scripps, he was moved to another facility unrelated to Scripps, as his wounds were too complex for me or home health care to manage at home. Two years later, David had a stroke and was admitted to Scripps La Jolla once again. I informed Dr. Worsey that David was back in the hospital for an unrelated issue. Dr. Worsey made a point to check in and visit David every single day. This level of care and compassion was truly good medicine! Did every scope and test you can think of and found nothing. Finally the final ER visit in February 2019 resulted with an image that showed a fold or twist in my large intestine. Dr. Worsey is my superhero and here's why. Five years ago in another state, I had colon cancer surgeries. The results were an Ileostomy, along with internal issues that required further surgeries. My quality of life went from really athletic to zero! My husband and I came to San Diego to seek medical help for me. The first doctor I consulted with advised that having surgery and a permanent ostomy is the only solution. My husband searched for another opinion. We found Dr. Worsey. In a span of about two years, to fix my medical issues, I had three surgeries from Dr. Worsey. When I woke up from the most crucial of these three surgeries, I found out this surgery, although being difficult, was a great success! I hollered out loud, cheering with joy! Dr Jonatan Worsey recently performed a revision on my Koch pouch (continent ileostomy) which was originally done in 1986. I was starting to have some real problems with the 33 year old pouch . He and his staff are wonderful. They are very professional as well as showing true concern for the patient. Thanks to Dr. Worsey I can continue the quality of life for which I have become accustom. When it became evident that my husband would need surgery for his recurring diverticulitis, we knew that we wanted to have it done at Scripps, even though it was a 3 1/2 drive for us, because of Scripps' reputation. In researching surgeons affiliated with Scripps, I came upon several great reviews for Dr. Worsey, and decided he was our best option. We are SO glad we made that choice! Dr. Worsey removed several feet of my husband's large intestine (colon). He had warned us ahead of time that although he would attempt to do it via laparascopic, there was a good chance that wouldn't give him enough room to do what he needed to do; sure enough, he ended up having to open him up, with an 8 inch incision closed by 35 staples...7 weeks later, the scar is already looking great, hardly noticeable (relatively speaking, considering the size of the incision). My husband stayed in the hospital 5 days after the procedure, during which time Dr. Worsey came in to see him EVERY morning and EVERY evening. After discharge from the hospital, my husband has had a few issues with violent diarrhea which landed him back in the hospital once and in the ER a couple of times...throughout that entire process, Dr. Worsey called us every single day (remember, we live far away) to check on my husband. He even had him come back to San Diego once to re-admit him and monitor him personally, taking excellent care of him and all the while reassuring him that this phase would eventually pass...things are going fine now. Besides his very obvious surgical expertise and great follow-up, something very noteworthy about Dr. Worsey is his accessibility. Whenever we called his office and left a message with the answering service, or spoke to his nurse, Dr. Worsey called us back within a few minutes (if he wasn't in surgery...called back within a couple of hours if he WAS in surgery). We never had to try to discuss things through a nurse - it was all direct with the doctor himself. And, when he would tell us he was going to prescribe a particular medicine, I could go to my pharmacy within the hour and it was ready and waiting. When he or his staff say they are going to take care of something, they do it - we have never once had to call back and remind them or ask the status of something. We feel like we have been in the most excellent of hands with this whole process. In summary, Dr. Worsey is extremely gifted as a surgeon, very accessible and reliable for communications and follow-up, AND, as a bonus, is very nice and personable and easy to talk to. I would recommend him to anybody who is experiencing any kind of intestinal/colon/rectal issues. read more

I saw Dr. Worsey for a complex procedure on my GI. I was previously operated on by one of the most well reputed surgeons in a large Northeastern city, at one of the most exclusive hospitals in the country. The surgery did not go as planned. I saw Dr. Worsey to clean up the mess. By the time I got to Dr. Worsey, the problem was much worse than it previously was. It was so bad, that the surgery took over 2x as long as expected. Many surgeons would have bailed out and left me in a colostomy bag for a period of months, just because it would have been the easier thing to do. Dr. Worsey hung in there, was careful and methodical, and got the job done safely and without leaving me in a colostomy bag and in need of another surgery. Further, his bedside manner is wonderful. He cares. He is communicative and empathetic. I was in the hospital for four days after my surgery. Dr. Worsey came by twice a day every day to check on me. At the exclusive Northeastern hospital, the surgeon only came by once to see me. After that, it was only the surgical fellows who came to check in on me. Further, the surgeon did not show up at my 10 day post-op appointment, that was also handled by a fellow. Do not underestimate the importance of bedside manner and follow up care, it makes all the difference in the world. In short, Dr. Worsey is the full package. A highly skilled surgeon on a technical level, and he actually cares as well. That makes all the difference in the world! read more
