This place has changed a lot, and it's for the better. New look and seems more well kept EXCEPT for the fact that there was trash everywhere from people leaving their messes from Easter. Super disappointed in people, but I do wish the park rec would have cleaned it up. read more

WARNING - if you go to this park to do inappropriate activities in the parking lot, be fairly warned that Downey Police Department will find you and interrogate you. Trust me, I learned after the third time. FYI - Wilderness Park supposedly closes at 8:00pm. However, I have been there on a Sunday night and found it swarming with families with children. read more

Love this park! It's great for the little kiddies to see the ducks since there are a couple ponds. This park is really big with lots of picnic tables and trees where you can just throw a blanket down and enjoy a picnic. We used to come here often when we were younger. But today I like to come and take pictures. There are all sorts of trees and flowers blooming and of course the ducks and geese! read more

Nice place to talk a stroll with family or exercise. The playground is cute too. I love that they have geese and ducks at the pond. I also like that it is paid parking in the lot and free if you're a Downey resident. This prevents the park from blowing up with people. I like that it's private an hidden. Wish the restrooms were better maintained though. But it's a park so I guess the not so clean restrooms are expected. read more

This is a nice park that provides bike trails, small fishing pond, big playground, lots of trees and eating area with bbq grills available.

Very nice park. Big open space, big lake in the middle filled with ducks, bike path behind it, all you can ask for in a park really. Got a lot of fun photos here, parked around the corner to avoid the stupid $2 fee to park, because c'mon, what's the point of charging for parking? Overall I'd recommend this park to anyone who hasn't come here before and is looking for a nice park to visit in california. Yeah there are better, but there are also a lot worse, and when I think of Ghetto this park doesn't spring anywhere close to my mind, so believe the better reviews. This is a decent park. read more

I grew up hitting riding my bmx bike at this park. There used to be killer dirt trails/jumps in the back but those are no longer there. It's a beautiful park with a nice lake and tons of shade. It's a great place for joggers and cyclists to start or finish their San Gabriel Riverbed routes. read more

2 friends and I arrived around 9 AM on a Wednesday morning to take a stroll with my friend's dog. The crowd consisted of people of various ages, many walking the cemented trails with their friends or pets. There was only 1 "sketchy" person who appeared unkempt and was drinking out of a bottle in a brown paper bag, but he wasn't bothering anyone. As for first looks at the park while we were walking, we noticed that the grass was lush and green, free of dog feces. There was a large gathering of ducks and geese, which people were feeding. There is a small lake in the middle of the park, which was not a pretty sight. The water was dirty and had an algae growth. As for other details: parking was no problem and was free. The restrooms were clean and had seat covers, toilet paper, running water, soap, and a hand dryer (no paper towels). The park had cemented trails that meandered around as well as an area of new tree growth and sanded trails. There are also bags to pick up your pooch's poop located on poles throughout the park. There is a playground for the kiddos (kind of exposed to the sun though). There are picnic benches scattered throughout. It is noisy, however, since the 605 and 5 freeways are near. There is access to the San Gabriel River Bike Trail (the bike trail that originates in Azusa and travels all the way south to Seal Beach) from the park. read more

Such a pretty and relaxing park. It is fun for the family - with entry of picnic tables, park play areas, soothing fountains, etc! The bathrooms are clean and there are walking trails around the park. There are lots of duck as well. Good for romantic picnics as well:-) read more

I recently moved from Gardena looking for a nice park to take my fur baby. This park is great has a pond with ducks and well manicured. You have to be a Downey resident to park for free if not you pay $5 :( but there is street parking so no worries:). My fur baby loves so we will definitely continue to go. read more

I hate to give this park a bad review because it seems to be a favorite among the locals and not so local, but visiting for the 1st time with my kids and finding a condom just killed the experience for me. Yes, the lake is dirty but what do you expect from a popular park that has lots of people feeding the ducks and geese even when there are signs all over warning against it. I took my kids to the playground and initially it seemed ok, until I saw a condom right on the little table where the kids usually play sand. I don't know if it was used or someone placed it there as a prank, but I was not going to risk my kids touching it. As soon as I saw the condom I called the city and they told me they would call the park staff to clean it up. We left the playground and walked around the lake and never saw a park worker. Looking around I did notice that homeless or just sketchy people seem to like hanging around the front bathroom area, they may be harmless but when I take my kids to a park I don't wanna take any chances. read more

Used to come here to walk with a couple of friends. There is a cement path around the park you can use for walking or jogging. Kind of boring for jogging or walking since you see the same things over and over. The park has its charm though. When you drive by on Florence you get to see bunnies hopping around if you are lucky. There is a nice enough pond complete with waterfowl. I think that is the park's nicest feature. There is enough space to fool around with a soccer ball. You can have a picnic here on the ground or on tables. Seems really nice huh? Well, this park is between the riverbed and the 605 fwy. instead of nestled in a nice neighborhood like Furman. It's also far smaller. If you like feeding the ducks or having your kids chase them around this is a great park. Otherwise, there are far better options in Downey. read more

Right off the 605 freeway is the most tranquil park I have ever been to in my entire existence. Wilderness park has two ponds full of ducks, swans and sometimes you can even spot a crane. I would recommend stopping by the 99c store on Paramount and Stewart and Gray Rd. and picking up some bread, as you will be swarmed by the ducks and they will be very very demanding. There was one time in particular where I was completely surrounded by a flock of ducks and there was one brave duck that was actually sitting on my lap trying to steal all of my bready goodness. :) read more

Rolling hills, expansive grass, cute little ponds, sports fields and you can even go fishing! If you live in the area, this is a nice spot for a barbecue or a birthday party. However, this park will forever be burned into my memory as the place where I got chased by geese (yup, wild horde of geese hunted down an adorable toddler...) here when I was just a wee little kiddie. I'm pretty sure our tax dollars pay for the upkeep of the parks. Therefore I was shocked to see a fee for parking. It was only $2.00 but that's not the point. I couldn't believe we were to be CHARGED to go into a public park. That's what I call double dipping! read more

I was in the mood for some nature, so I walked over to the local Wilderness Park. The park definitely did have some serene qualities to it, like the wonderful little duck ponds, and the stretches of grass towards the outskirts of the tiny park; but its proximity to the freeway and the street mean that you can continually hear the roar of traffic. Not to mention that Downey isn't the cleanest city, and the park definitely falls into that category. It wasn't filthy, but it wasn't spectacular. The bathrooms were gross as were some of the tables. The next time I have the hankering to sit in the shade of a tree, I think I'll go elsewhere. read more

Fun park for kids. They have a cool pirate ship playground and you can feed the ducks. It's near where I work so I mostly come here to walk or read. Very peaceful, sort of golf park-esque. read more

Love this park! A friend and I run in this park weekly and its such a nice getaway from the smog and hustle and bustle. Its not busy at all during the week but beware on the weekends....its packed full! Also, on the weekends, they charge a parking fee. Its got a great trail for walking or running, is located right next to the San Gabriel River Bike Path and it has nice clean restrooms. read more

I always go to this park because it's close to my work and school, not because it's not that great. Recently I went there on a Saturday afternoon and I found out that they were charging for parking. $5 for non residents. It's a nice park but really? It's not all that. I've been to better parks and they do not do this. Very upset. Plus it's kind of a dirty park. The water is dirty and there is trash thrown in and around the little lake. Place is a bicyclist hangout. The riders are rude and refuse giving the right of way to all pedestrians.

This is a decent park to take the dogs for an afternoon or late night stroll. Plenty of cement paths to avoid people. Lots of ducks to feed during the day, although the water can use a cleaning every now and then. read more
