We drive over an hour to pick up a Christmas yule log cake every year. Icing is light as a cloud, marshmallowy, but not too sweet.

I got a few chocolate eclairs and a few cannolis two of my favorites I was going to get a small Carmel supreme but I didn't have a cooler and it was pretty warm out and I wasn't going rite home. I decided to get pies for Thanksgiving. I got the quadrant pie, Apple, and Pumpkin. I have never eaten an Apple pie with no flavor before. It was really bad. Cherry part of the quad pie had no cherries, and strawberry rhubarb was just ok. Peach pie was better than all others and that was on the quad. The pie did not list blueberry as one of the flavors, it was posted on sign as strawberry. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. IF YOU ORDER FROM THIS BUSINESS, CHECK YOUR CAKE! SILLY OF ME TO TRUST AN ESTABLISHED BUSINESS AND CAKE SHOP TO DO THEIR JOB!!!! I ordered a cake on November 22 at the store for pickup on November 24.  The employee wrote down the cake type and my request to write "Happy Birthday Dad".  I picked up the cake on the 24th at around 10:30 am. As I opened the box (at home at 8pm), and were about to sing Happy birthday to my Dad, I noticed the requested writing was not there, it was very disappointing,  as I was trying to surprise my Dad who came all the way from Tennessee.  This is very disappointing and as a loyal customer, I am very dissatisfied with their service alltogether. What makes it worse is their response to my concern. Lack of empathy and ownership of the big issue of the lack of writing. A real business would try to make it right somehow than saying it "was an oversight". Typically I am an advocate for supporting small businesses but this bakery has issues. The very dry cake I recieved about a year ago, made me hesitant to order again, but I did and look what happened. Strike 2, but I won't come back to get a strike 3. read more

If you want a really special, absolutely yummy cake this is the place to go. They just did my spouse's retirement cake and it was fabulous. In addition to being visually stunning, it really was good cake. I have rarely served a group of people cake where everyone ate the entire piece. I came here 3 separate times and cannot get a cream horn I came in 14 mins after it open and never was put out and was told it sold out. Customer service is 50/50 some nice times and some bad. Some of the best cake I ever had! Picked up a vanilla birthday cake with strawberry mousse filling for my granddaughters birthday. I called first thing in the morning and was able to reserve a cake of my choice from a long list. They wrote on it for me and I was able to pick it up on my way to the party. It was a big hit and cost just a bit more than a grocery store cake. I definitely will do it again. read more

The cakes and pastries at Wildewood Pastry Shop are certainly good looking, but on numerous occasions looking good has never really translated to taste. Putting it plainly, the chocolate cake (in cakes and cupcakes) is dry and crumbles (not to mention it doesn't taste like chocolate). When baking, chocolate is tougher to get right then vanilla. Their vanilla cake / dough is just ok. With that said, as an Italian from New Jersey, I was deeply offended at what was presented as a "cannoli cake". Cannoli filling is typically ricotta based but still sweet.... heck just a little ricotta is fine. What I got in WPS cannolis was some sugary sweet white cream that was almost more like a frosting. The shell was fine (but of course that is not made in-house) and the cake... as per above was just ok. All-in-all, avoid this place. It looks good, but it's not worth going to for events when everyone will take a bite and leave the rest on their plate. read more

I have been in this establishment twice since it's close to my job and have been pleased with each experience. I only saw one person working behind the counter but she was very friendly and helpful when I was just looking around my first time there. Everyone inside the store, the second time, was wearing masks and had signs enforcing the Covid-19 policies. It was very well organized and had the feel of a mom and pop shop which is refreshing in this day and age of major restaurant corporations. The presentation of all their pastries was amazing and loved the nice packaging the treats came in. The pastries themselves were delicious and some of the best desserts I've had that felt like your grandmother baked them with how full and decently rich they were. All in all, a great establishment that deserves support from the community for the amazing and delicious products they serve! read more

My daughter wanted a "Wednesday" cake so I picked one of their cakes on display and asked if they could make it with black and white frosting. Also picked out the flavor of cake and filling. This shoppe makes really great cakes! My husband bought the Marquis cake for my birthday and it was delicious. I custom ordered his birthday cake, it wound up being the same as what they called their "Maryland State cake". Moist, delicious, not too sweet, just perfect. We've also gotten a slice of the pumpkin roll, very moist and tasty. I like that they offer small 6" cakes and their usual assortment of cakes by the slice as well. I have eaten numerous cakes and pastries from Wildewood Pastry Shop over the decades, both provided at business and family functions as well as occasionally purchased myself for home consumption. The products are usually attractive but lacking in punchy flavors. Good on a Southern Maryland scale, but this shop wouldn't last a heartbeat against competition in Zurich or Vienna. And yet they have been around seemingly forever. Not thriving, but holding on, likely depending on residents of the nearby retirement community who think they are being all Gucci. The biggest problem is that with their current business hours this shop is not an option for many. Those working on base have great difficulty making it through traffic before the 5:30 close. Really, 5:30! One would really want the product and plan accordingly to shop here and there's no room for error. Picking up an impulse buy is almost out of the question. Perhaps if they were more aware of the potential customer base with high disposable income they are ignoring they could enjoy greater success. Oh, well, I'll get my eclairs delivered by next day drone. Or make them myself. It's really not that difficult. read more

Delicious in house made pastries! Their buttercream is divine. The cannoli is not a typical cannoli though, they fill them with buttercream it seems and not the traditional ricotta impastata also the shell was not crisp. I wouldn't order again but everything else was amazing! read more

Other things they have might be good, but their "lemon" cake is a very poor effort, and I have to guess they put that same lack of effort into everything. They really need to taste this thing and ask themselves if they want to sell it there and call it a lemon cake. Hard to believe how poor, for $28 for an 8" cake. I got this for the wife for her birthday after she had told me about a great lemon cake she got from a La Plata bakery for a friend's birthday at work. I thought I would save some driving and get one for her from a bakery closer to home. Well, I just left the table after surprising her with it. After she took a bite she said, "is this a yellow cake?" That's what I'd like to know. I had to tell her, "No, it's supposed to be a lemon cake." The cake is so bland, there is just no taste of any kind to it. We both agreed she should take it to work. ...Actually, as I think of it now, I might be dumping it back off at the bakery and telling them we are very disappointed and it isn't worth eating. There are mistakes made in life and people have different tastes, and I understand that, and I am generally a very fair minded person. But with this one, I think there is no way that this bakery would not realize that it's a poor product, and that the real cause of them selling it as is, isn't that there are different tastes, or mistakes being made, it's that they're churning stuff out the cheapest way they can to turn the highest profit they can. I could look up a recipe online and do better myself. I've watched the wife make lemon frosting for things she has made, and it was good. This bakery clearly didn't go to the trouble for this one. I have to really wonder what lemon flavoring they used for the faint hint of it you could barely make out in this thing. Extremely disappointed in WW pastry shop. I grew up in the county and loved getting cakes from there for my son. They've been incredible beginning with his baptism cake! Fast forward to his 7th Birthday celebration for this weekend. I called Monday explained what I needed. Not able to walk in (no longer a county resident) but celebrating locally. Sent email w/ pics right after I called. Was told no problem on the phone someone would contact me w/a quote. Called today to follow up & was told all orders for Saturday are full. WHAT? I called in advance, did as instructed w/ email and now my kid's 7th birthday is ruined! Clearly incompetent employees at the wheel! Customer service obviously is taking a backseat at this place. Absolutely outstanding!!! We ordered a cake from them for our daughters 1st birthday. We had found a picture we liked online, emailed them the picture, went into talk to them to give them some more specifics and discuss colors. We picked up the cake today and it was beyond all our expectations! We couldn't have been happier! The amount of detail was amazing. The sponge was moist and light, the strawberry moose filling not to sweet. It was loved by all at the party! But the artwork....spectacular! Do NOT get the Cannolis, because they are NOT Cannolis. Got a 1/2 dozen very small (2 bites) sized "Cannolis" at $2.95 each. They were not filled with Cannoli cream. Enough said - you can't sell a Cannoli shell, and fill it with butter cream icing and call it a Cannoli. I pretty much never write these reviews, but I'm really ticked off - very expensive for the size and not even a Cannoli - flat out rip off. Bought these for guests since they'd never had before - had to explain how they were not right. There are several other reviews with similar complaints - who would expect this? Went by the bakery to make a custom cake for our gender reveal. I explained that I wanted a simple 6 inch round cake just coated in frosting with stars decorating around the top and sides or the cake with a sculpted elephant. After the shop sales associate showed the pastry chef what I wanted I was informed that the pastry chef would not make the cake for me if we dont use fondant. I informed the sales associate that I do not like fondant and that I prefer the frosting look. She told me that the chef wouldn't agree because it would not look as good. I understand they can refuse to make whatever they don't want but I don't understand how a customer not wanting fondant on their cake would be the reason not to make it. This place is now on my wife's boycott list. She went in to get a cheese cake and order assorted Christmas cookies. She asked for fruit on the cheese cake, they put cherry pie filling on top. For the Chirstmas cookies she asked not to have too many chocolate cookies. When she picked them up today there was almost fifty percent chocolate cookies.
