Yay! I come here to buy my wool roving and the quality is great. The staff was also very helpful in showing me how to get started with crocheting. My only complaint is that the store hours clash with my work/school schedule so I can only come here ever so often. this shop makes me drool. it's pretty but not pretentious, and they carry a lot of flavors and brands of yarn, including a good selection of sock yarn. it's also one of the few places in the area with an admirable selection of habu. my first introduction to habu was at a trunk show here. they have a wall of koigu to envy, and once you're done there, check out the socks that rock. i have yet to explore all the yarns they have, many of which cannot be found elsewhere. i love their magazine selection, which includes selvedge and the latest rowan in addition to the knitting staples - interweave knits, vogue knitting. i may not be able to knit many of the things in the magazines, but i sure do like looking at them and dreaming. i've only been here twice so i haven't had too many interactions with the women who work here, but they all seem nice and friendly. if you're not shopping at joann's or michaels or some of the places online, yarn is not cheap, especially for a sweater, but the eye candy and fiber fondling that can be had is worth it. you may not be able to buy it all, but hey, there's no harm in touching. read more

I went here for the first time. I bought several skeins of yarn and no one offered to wind it for me but what makes it worse is that I was grossly over charged. I was charged for things I did not buy and when I tried to get my money back it was very difficult. I can see why they are going out of business!!! read more

My Haven for 3 Years! Whenever I need an escape, I come to Wildfiber. They have an excellent selection of high-end yarn, and a back clearance room for when you want something at a discounted price. The shop is cozy, has nice seating and a rainbow of luxury yarns. If you need a pattern, they have several books, magazines, and binders of single patterns. If you need lessons, they have several to choose from. The staff here is always super patient and helpful. They are all knitters themselves so can help you get exactly what you need for your project. I love the sample knits that they have around the store. I have done a couple of their projects on display and they turned out nicely. They have a very nice selection of accessories including needles, knitting bags, and more. It is also nice to use their yarn winder instead of buying one for home. I have tried to find an alternative store just for variety, and nothing else compares! This really is the best yarn store on the Westside and out of the Valley. This is my favorite yarn shop, as they have the most friendly and knowledgeable staff around. Wildfiber carries tons of sock yarn, all ranges of prices and good quality. Terri is the best, she has helped me so often, but everyone there is welcoming and patient. I like that they carry a cool European line of needles, and usually have everything you might need in stock. If you join their email, you will find one or two trend-setting events that make knitting current and inspiring. I appreciate that they offer a 10% off coupon for online shoppers. Last but not least, they are centrally located, right off the bus route and have tons of bike parking right outside their door. Thursday nights open late...Very cool store!! read more

This seems to be the hipster among the Santa Monica area yarn shops. It's pretty big and selection is quite extensive, prices moderate to high, and there was a 50% off shelf with a few odd skeins, two of which I scooped up (100g Online Supersocke for $10 each). Also back issues of magazines are 50% off. Still I didn't really love the shopping experience there, for reasons I'm not totally sure about, but I'd be willing to go back and give it another shot. read more

Wildfiber used to be pretty intimidating, and the staff weren't always the most helpful. Under the new management I've seen a big change, and now split my time between here & Compatto because I live down the street. I LOVE their natural fiber selection and luxury yarns, but I am especially happy that they carry more budget friendly selections, and certain yarns in a wide array of colors for colorwork, crochet, and baby clothes / blankets to match nursery colors. Haven't gotten to take a class here yet - they don't have a ton - but the staff are always SO helpful when it comes to color choice for a pattern or even pattern selection. Also an AWESOME array of notions, needles and bags/accessories for the crochet or knit lover. read more

They have good selection of yarns and the staffs are nice. Only thing negative is it's pricy to take the class and all the yarns you need to buy at the store unless you will end up paying a lot for the private lessons. It is good if you are a beginner and try to learn step by step. But if you just want little help here and there,it will cost you more than paying for 10 hours of group lessons at once. read more

Seems like a hip, chatty place to sit, knit & B*tch. There were a lot of people here and they were all ultra hip and very nice. I was in there with my daughter (1.5 years old) and she was very interested in everyone and everything. Everyone was welcoming and kind. I went in with a specific thing to look for and while they didn't have it, they did help me (totally NOT the same experience as the "no customer service" people). I was greeted immediately, asked if I needed help, they asked questions to help find what I wanted, etc. Very involved customer service until I went into the clearance center and then I was ignored. Docking 2 stars because the parking here SUCKS - like worse than "just meters". Its a super busy street and not very accessible and the other star is for the blow-off post clearance shopping. I purchased everything, but needles, from the clearance. I will return for the clearance. Oh, and they sell un-spun wool by the yard - while I don't spin yet, I think that's SUPER COOL! Okay, they get another star back for that. read more

Their yarn selection is nice. However, not nice enough for me to keep up with the lack of service from this place. This business lost a new customer. Coming from someone who in the two visits there spent nearly $700, I'm saying this with such a terrible taste in my mouth. From the moment I walked in, the vibe of this was unwelcoming. Snobby, unhelpful, and cold. Unlike any of the other yarn stores I've been to, which are always swarming with people chatting, shopping and sitting in the communal knitting area making friends. Sadly, this place is deceptively unwelcoming because it is in fact such a cutely laid out little store. The ladies that work at the store? Curt, unhelpful at best. The only saving grace was that one of the two owners, the one with short hair (not the one with long brown hair and glasses) happily helped me spend more money at her store which I was happy to because it was the first time I felt welcome there! Unfortunately though, here is the backstory. I brought some malabrigo yarn - one roll and decided that i needed more to make a baby blanket for my sweet little one that has yet to make it earth side. I emailed the store to see if they had any more - super swift response, less than 12 hours. I Decided to go into the store to see if they had any left which they didn't, so they told me that they can "special order" it for me (even through it's a yarn that they are currently carrying). Special ordering means you can't return it. The brown haired glasses boss lady says that because it's hand dyed, there will be some variations which was of course disconcerting to hear, but I asked her if the color scheme was going to be the same and she said yes What I gathered from this is that the colors that are in the last yarn that I got will be in the next 4 rolls that she will order for me. How it plays out will be different of course because not one roll is the same. When the new yarn came in I went to pick it up. To me, it looked like a whole different yarn. The coloring was off not to mention that it was missing colors like green and yellow. There was no way I could continue on with the blanket. I left the store because the woman started down the path of "we told you it was blah blah blah". I didn't want to deal with her negativity and the "we told you so's" - no customer wants to. What we want to hear is, hey, here's an issue, how can we best resolve it? So I left. And on my way home I felt so terrible about these four rolls of yarn valued at nearly $40 each, I called the store back to speak with the brown haired boss lady and she rushed me off the phone saying she will talk to the owner. (Pretending she has no say in this and not knowing that I in fact knew she was one of the owners) I simply asked if there was any way I can exchange the product to something else I can use. I didn't ask for a refund, just an exchange. Again, this is yarn that they currently sell and carry...and they can resell this yarn to someone else... Someone called me back a few days later and left a vmail stuttering no, they won't be able to take the yarn back and good luck on my project. Wtf? You know I can't use the yarn. Why wish me luck on a project you are aware I can't continue? Then I decided to email them - to make sure they realized that I wasn't asking for a refund. Just an exchange - because we all know there are hiccups in communication. I spent my time drafting an email explaining that I'd be happy to patronize further because they are a local business, and if they would be willing to offer an exchange. Well...I waited 5 days and NO ANSWER. this coming from a business that responded in my first email to then in less than 12 hours. I tried to give them an opportunity to respond like a business who actually cared about serving their customers - running a small business is hard and it relies on repeat customers -- but you have to give your customer a a real reason to continue spending money with you. Knitting is an expensive hobby that not everyone can afford to indulge in. The population of shoppers are special. Work on keeping everyone you've got. I'm so utterly disappointed. Not to mention I have $150 worth of yarn I won't be able to use. Save yourself the money -- go to Compatto Yarn Salon on Wilshire Blvd in Santa Monica. The ladies there are beyond helpful, the environment welcoming, and they have a sitting area where I've met some really cool knitters. Plus if you buy a yarn you aren't too sure of, the exchange policy is in tact and you won't feel like all they care about is taking your money. These guys are the real deal. They genuinely care about your projects and want to know how to help. If you make a mistake and need help, bring it to them. They will help you on the spot. Wishing these guys luck and hope they figure out that customer service is everything. Plus, Parking is horrible. read more

Wildfiber is the Whole Foods of yarn. The selection of yarn is top notch, incredible colors and blends. Yes some of the yarn is very pricey but you get what you pay for. I have shopped at other yarn stores and the yarn is just not as beautiful as what Wildfiber has to offer. All of my friends who have received my knitted gifts always compliment how gorgeous the yarn is. From time to time they do have a sale on their items and I was able to get some great yarn for a decent price. They also offer classes and their staff has been very helpful every time I visit. read more

I had booked a private hour lesson only to receive 3 minutes of time! No one checked in on me once after that. I left to no, thank you or goodbye! Granted they were busy but why book a lesson with a client if you cannot keep it?!? I am still perplexed by the lack of customer service I received! Meanwhile when they became less busy the employees stood @ the register & talked in hushed voices. I don't think I will be returning!!! I visited the shop in the early morning just after they opened and the staff was pleasant and engaging. They were quick to offer help but not snobbish or clingy. The shop itself was bright and airy, which made browsing pleasant. The yarn selection was very good, offering a large selection of very nice boutique yarns along with a few spinning supplies. Coming here from the northeast, I found the variety of fibers and the bright and energetic color palette a refreshing change from some of the local yarn stores back home. Road trip!!!! A couple of friends and I (with the bf tagging along) took a yarn tour through L.A. And we went here first (thank goodness!!) They were having an amazing sale, so I ignored the little voice in my head telling me not to spend money. I loved their Habu selection (though I was looking of for that bamboo copper yarn..ah well). The salesfolks were expert: they knew when to help and when to let me browse. Plus, they treated my poor non-knit/cro bf kindly and directed him away from the hordes of shoppers. Will we go again? Service definitely depends on who you get. The first time I went in, a young woman was downright snotty, especially when she found out that the knitting book I had brought in had been purchased elsewhere. I bought $100 worth of yarn that day, but wasn't told that they have a machine to help you make the yarn into balls. I spent hours doing it myself at home, because the girl did not point it out. I only found out the next time I went in, months later, that such a tool existed for customer use. When I went back, she was just as rude (actually gaping and rolling her eyes at my lack of knowledge - I'm a beginner) so I waited till she left the room and sought the help of someone else. That person was the exact opposite - really sweet and helpful. The other thing that made me give them one fewer star: Private lessons cost $50 an hour. My job requires a graduate professional degree, and I make half that an hour. It is senseless. It's more than twice the cost of the project I need help to make. Wildfiber should reconsider that price, it's outrageous. read more

I was just visiting from out of town and did some research to find a local yarn store to support. What a great find! I wish this place was close to me! They had a very good selection, and the layout wasn't cramped or overwhelming. I was helped by a very nice young woman (I can't remember her name, but I wish I could so I could give her a shout out!). I was looking for yarn for a mystery knit along, and she got very excited to help me. She did some research for me on the project to help me narrow it down and gave me great advice and spent lots of time with me. Yes, the yarn is pricier, but you expect that going into a boutiquey local yarn store. Plus, the service makes it worth it! Shopping here was an experience all its own that I will think of fondly while I'm working on my project, which is how yarn stores should be! read more

Lovely looking store and selection but prices are easily 20% above any other store or online and staff is less than helpful or friendly. I've gone in about half a dozen times and each time swear I'm never going back due to the prices and rudeness and a year or so later I end up back looking for something specific...and every time I end up buying it online for cheaper. They don't offer anything you can't get online and the staff is so condescending. I watched them put a beginner knitter in tears with their scoffing of how she'd only been knitting for a few months...and also told her she'd have to take a class to get help but that classes are "self-directed." Yarns Unlimited on Pico is my go-to still, much smaller but wonderful people and prices. read more

I've been crocheting since I was 6 years old and have been knitting for the past 2 years. That means more than 30 years of fiber/crafting experience. Wildfiber has become my knitting home!!! The staff is helpful and patient and most of the regulars there are happy to help out as well. I've indulged my new knitting obsession by stopping by almost every yarn store within driving distance (KnitCulture/KnittersStudio, Loop n Leaf in Santa Barbara, Compatto, other yarn places in Santa Monica, Green Planet Yarn in Campbell, Purlescence in Sunnyvale, stores in Napa Valley, Palm Springs, and Newport Beach) and Wildfiber stlil beats them all. What I like - *Enormous selection: brought a friend from NYC here and she was amazed at the size and selection. I can always find a yarn that piques my interest whenever I visit *Great atmosphere: I actually want to sit here and sit a while. A comfy living room style area and large table - both with good lighting. And food places within walking distance if you get hungry. I don't think I've ever hang out there and not met someone friendly. A warmer version of a coffee shop meet up! *Great staff help - I've gotten help here when I first started and ribbing was a challenge and still get help on my more complicated lace/fiber related issues. Everyone is knowledgeable (vs. places where there is 1 go-to person for questions). The classes are great as well. *Sales! They have a 50% off section in the back with patterns, yarn, bag handles, needles, buttons... sometimes cashmere, silk, things I want to take home.... *Wifi!!! I could go on.... The drawbacks - *Parking - Metered street parking only. But I usually find a 2 hour spot at 0.75/hr easily. *The bathroom breaks occasionally - but it's an old building *They aren't open on Mondays (like most yarn stores) and not until Wed at 12 noon (darn having Wednesdays off!!!) *The 40 minutes meters are closest to the door *I could spend a lot of coin ++easily++ (sigh) *Those that are more into spinning will find roving, but the community is more knitting with some crocheting and felting. Maybe the spinners meet elsewhere? I haven't been going there regularly for that long, but they always greet me by name and had some great conversations when there's some slower times. I've inspired at least 3 people to knit in the past year and they've all ended up at Wildfiber and happy about it. Definitely a place to go if you are a yarn enthusiast. read more

I was a beginner, and I had bought the yarn in another state but they were willing to help me anyway. Having visited all 21 yarn shops that participated LA Yarn Crawl this year, I'm appreciating how lucky I am that Wildfiber is my local shop. The shop carries is a great selection of yarns at various price points, from Blue Sky Fibers and Berroco to hand dyed options from Malabrigo, Madelinetosh and Manos del Uruguay. Wildfiber also keeps a well stocked wall of needles and every type of notion one might need. But nice yarns and tools can be had at many shops and what makes Wildfiber a standout is the customer service, camaraderie and friendliness at this shop. The owners, Teri & Claudia are super friendly and kind, and their awesome staff Jessica and Jennifer are very knowledgeable and always willing to help. Add to that the weekly knitting/crochet classes, Thursday knit night, a regular offering of classes with expert instructors on a variety of interesting techniques and crafts, a quarterly sweater club, and an unpretentious environment and you've got just about the perfect LYS. read more
