I'm a native for Michigan. These are the absolute best pasties I've ever had. Today I had the bison Pass so delicious.Not doughy. Tons of flavor! Also picked up some smoked trout. They have smoked salmon and a lot more. Highly recommend. read more

When in MI, you must try a Pasty, they say. It's pronounced Past Tee, not Paste Tee, they say. But where do you go to try one? There were a lot of places advertising pasties, but I picked this one since it had almost 5 stars and it was right off the highway. I have nothing to compare it to, but my taste buds approved. The giant of a man working here was nice and informative. This was a cute little restaurant/gift shop. Breakfast Pasty $5.75 Slice of cheery pie $4.25 The food was pretty good. Pasties, I found, were like homemade hot pockets. They had traditional (ground beef + potatoes + carrots + onions + rutabaga), breakfast, veggies, and spicy hot Italian pasties. You can also add gravy for $0.50. They also offered several different kinds of pies - cheery berry, peach blackberry, strawberry rhubarb, apple, oatmeal, and blueberry. I've got to say, after seeing signs for pasties all over the UP, I was expecting something a bit more flavorful. What my original pasty came down to was potato, ground beef, and bread flavored with a little black pepper. Whatever you're imagining based on those four ingredients is what the pasty tasted like. This is stereotypical "British food". They did have a pasty with cheese and italian sausage that I didn't try and may have held some more promise. I was kicking myself for not ordering it. read more

This is a pasty only review. I've had Wildwood a couple times in my life and I'm not sure it'll be worth another visit in the near future. My most recent experience was disappointing. The crust was flimsy and didn't taste like much, while the insides were the same in the taste department. I'm also not sure these pasties pass the ratio test as mine (and others in my group) was overloaded with potatoes. I had multiple bites that didn't include any meat, which is no good. Their pies may be good. They may have a venison option in the fall. They may have a bigger side store than most other pasty shops. But for the pasty, I'm not sure how others gave it a full five stars. read more

I found this pasty shop through Yelp. They had four different flavors of pasties: Beef, Breakfast, Hot Italian sausage, and venison. You could order them hot to eat or frozen to take with you and heat up later. I ordered the beef and it was delicious and had potatoes, rutabaga, onion, and beef. It was such an easy lunch on our way home. Even my daughter, the picky eater ate it! They also have smoked fish, cheese curds, soda and other things you can take home like syrup, jam and U.P. "Wildwood Pasties" was a random stop along the road for me. I wanted to experience a Pastie (i pronounced "Paste-t") but Mark (the owner) was quick to correct me ... "Past-t" Mark was kind enough to share the history of the Pastie with me ... from English ship crew food to miners food (if I remember correctly?), to U.P. Michigan local's pride! Miners kept the Pastie under their miner's hat while they worked in the mine & used the flame light on their helmet to keep the Pastie warm for meal time. I was learning while I was enjoying my 1st Pastie ... crispy, tasty, & the brown gravy was an added taste bonus!! Worth the drive, I drove 5 hrs!!! The pies and pasties are the best recipes I have ever had. The place is about 15 mins from the Mackinaw Bridge (west on 2). The owners are such kind people. The shop also offers can drinks, cheeses and smoked fish. They do have as well a small gift shopping section. read more

Love this place! I visited based on reviews and have not been disappointed. In fact during our stay in the area we've visited four times so far. The pasties are excellent, be sure to get the beef gravy on top. If you have room after the pasties try their pie. We tried the mile high apple pie , oatmeal chocolate and mile high peanut butter pie. The slices are huge (mile high) and one slice can easily feed two people. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the apple pie. Wow!! If you're in the area do yourself a favor and check this place out. read more

Nice looking tourist shop. Stopped in for a Pasty. I guess in this neck of the woods you can't get a Pasty without rutabagas. We were assured that we would not notice them. I was warned, anything south of Negaunee or Ishpeming pasties are not going to be good. My logic was, how could you mess up something that's essentially a pot pie that looks like a Hot Pocket, turnover shaped. My husband was born and raised in Negaunee. Never had I even heard of a Pasty (pronounced pass tee) before then, they were made to feed miners, because was easy to eat without utensils. They are a crusty pie crust wrapped around meat & potatoes, or vegetables with cheese, best when fresh out of the oven. I love the vegetable ones with carrots, potatoes, and cheese. My husband on the other hand is a pure carnivore and quite the connoisseur of pasties throughout his life. We were hungry and wanted one last pasty before leaving the UP (Upper Peninsula). This was a cute roadside stop, that carried a large array of yooper paraphernalia, honey, maple syrup, and knick-knacks. The couple that was working were friendly and accommodating to heat up our pasties, by microwave, that should have been the first inclination that the pasties would not be up to par. Like I said I did not think that you could mess up a simple pasty , but they did.. I hate to be rude, but these were the worst pasties I and my husband had ever eaten, maybe they were left over from last year? They tasted like rotten, dried up, used, stripper pole pasties, and left the worst taste in our mouths. The fact is, this place is the pure definition of tourist trap, with lots of overpriced souvenirs, and it's the second to last stop before the bridge going south. We were told by the couple working a lot of people stop there going to the UP to put their pin on the map and by the end of the year, the map is filled up with pins of where people have traveled from. Good luck to them, but I can't imagine that they are truly Yoopers. If you are from another state/country and have no idea what a pasty is, from the 'mitten' of Michigan, aka trolls, F.I.Bs, or cheese heads they may get away with feeding you this overpriced, poor imitation of a iron miner's dinner to you, otherwise, it's just sad, it truly was garbage... read more

This is the real deal. The pasties here are homemade and made fresh each day. You can see them right behind the counter being made. Beef pasty. Awesome. No need for gravy. Tastes great on its own. We stay at Balsam's Cabins outside of St. Ignace every summer, and we make the drive down US 2, which is breath taking, to go get some of these Pasties. They are so good that we have only tried 1 other place for pasties in the recent 7 yrs in a row going up there! They ARE that good! read more

Every year my family packs up and heads up to the U.P. for a fun and relaxing stay in St. Ignace. We visit the Indian museums, climb castle rock, eat tons of smoked fish, and relax out on the gorgeous shores of Lake Michigan out on US-2. When everybody else is too tired to want to do anything, or when we stay a day later than everyone else, my wife and I like to just jump on a road and drive forever with no destination in mind, just to see where it takes us. Well, one day a few years back we headed west down US-2 to see where it leads. Let me tell you, it leads to the best pastie the world has to offer. Officially the place is called Wildwood, but my wife and I call it "Homemade Jam", due to the large sign saying such on the front of the little red building. We went in here and enjoyed the best pasties we'd ever had. There are dozens of places around to eat them, but none come close to the delicious homemade beef, vegetable, italian sausage, and breakfast pasties offered here. Trust me on this, the half hour drive west of St Ignace is SO worth it. You will drive past at least 10 other places with pasties but continue on until you see "Homemade Jam" on the left. Yesterday we drove all the way out there before our 4 hour drive home just to eat one before we left, and this time I tired their pie, which is every bit as good as they claim. I had the strawberry-rhubarb and it was amazing. Do yourself a favor when visiting to U.P. and stop in Wildwood for their deliciously authentic up-north cuisine, then you too will view them not as a stop while on vacation, but as a destination in itself. We wanted to try pasties for the first time and I read many reviews this place only had a few reviews but we decided to drive out out way and it was totally worth it! 10 out of ten. We had beef pasties and rhubarb pie. Delicious. Atmosphere typical backwoods middle of nowhere country bumpkin feel which adds to complete the whole pastie experience. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Wildwoods on our way back home after a long weekend in the UP and it turns out that these pasties were just what we needed! The owner was friendly, the food came out quick and hot, and it was so tasty!! Definitely reasonably priced as well. Though circumstances keep us from visiting the wonderful U.P. of Michigan more than we would like, Wildwood Pasties is a MUST STOP destination whether we are staying in the area or just driving through to other parts of da U.P. Never disappointed in their pasties and never left enough room for the pie, but saw some pass by our table and it looked fantastic. We had promised our boys that we would stop for lunch after crossing the Mackinaw bridge on our long car trip home to Madison, WI, from Ann Arbor, MI. Despite the requests of the boys, we passed by McDonalds and a few other fast food places as we headed west on highway 2 looking for a local cafe. We pulled into Wildwood Pasties hoping they would have menu that included standard fare sandwiches or soup. When we saw the limited menu of pasties (beef, Italian, or breakfast), pie, and ice cream (several flavors), we were worried that there would be no meal that our boys would eat. We considered driving on, but figured we'd try the pasties even though we were pretty sure the boys would not like the strong rutabaga taste we had encountered in other pasties we had eaten. We ordered two pasties to share, one beef and one breakfast. They were huge and absolutely delicious! These were the best pasties we had ever had and the boys loved them too. It was a matter of minutes before we ordered another pasty. They also had healthy fruit/veggie drinks for us. To end the meal my youngest son ordered a slice of "mile high apple pie". This slice of pie was huge...weighing at least a pound and standing 6 inches tall. The whole pie had 6.5 pounds of apples in it! The apples were perfectly done and exquisitely spiced. The crst was flaky and flavorful. All 4 of us helped him eat the slice and together we couldn't finish it. What great food! The pasties and pie were a perfect lunch and were served by a wonderfully warm and kind woman who seemed to own the establishment. This is a must stop if you ate hungry on highway 2. My only complaint is that they can't ship their pasties and pies to Wisconsin! read more
