We came here one morning while staying on the island for a breakfast and really enjoyed it. Their coffees are great and their food was also very good. Pup friendly outdoor seating area was a real perk as well. I got an iced Fudge Shop latte and it was really good, very flavorful. The Blueberry Bliss smoothie is probably one of the best smoothies I've ever tasted! And this is coming from a lady who makes and drinks smoothies regularly. My smoothie standards are sky-high, and the smoothie that I had a Watercolor Cafe was amazing. It was so good that I made everyone at the table taste it, and we agreed: superb smoothie. The Blueberry Bliss has blueberries, banana, white chocolate and oak milk in it. I wish there were a little more nutritious (maybe throw in some flax, hemp seed and/or chia), but maybe that's why it's so delicious. Another delicious thing: the Peanut Butter Deluxe Toast, which is creamy peanut butter and sliced bananas with a drizzle of honey on wheat bread. Super tasty and filling! I got the avocado toast, and it wasn't my favorite. The avocado tasted more like packaged guacamole, and I got it with an egg, which is literally a hard-boiled egg that sits on top. Also, the toast was more like just a soft piece of bread. I mean, I guess technically, all of the components are there, but the execution needed some work. The breakfast burrito was super tasty (it came with chorizo), and one of my kids got the kids' mac and cheese, which came with a cookie. When these guys say that breakfast is served until 11 a.m., they really mean it! We visited around 10:50, wanting to order off of the lunch menu, but they didn't let us. I think the only lunchy offerings during breakfast time is the kids' menu. The seating inside is very cute: There's a craft station with paper, coloring books, and all kinds of colored pencils and things to create something at your table. Not a lot of inside or patio seating. It's packed. 8 tables inside. 9-10 tables out on the patio. You order and then sit down. Ordered a chipotle turkey, bacon on the side, Michelangelo, snickerdoodle latte with oat milk latte, water bottle and a berry infused lemonade. The berry infused lemonade has some fake sugar in it, real sugar would make it better. The blueberries are still frozen, not fresh. Bummer. The snickerdoodle latte with oat milk was good. Flavorful. The chipotle chicken was tasty. The bread was nicely toasted. The Michelangelo was decent until my husband tried to bite into a piece of bone in the chicken. Not cool! Good thing he didn't break a tooth biting into it harder or swallow it whole in the middle of big bite. I did let the staff know about the bone in the chicken. I watched them all examine the bone in the back kitchen. The front desk woman offered to give a refund. I told her it's more important that she was made aware that it occurred than the refund. There are quite a few bees inside the patio. My husband got bitten on the back of his neck while eating lunch. Not a great lunch experience so far. Recommended by many on the island. This gem was hidden past the fort & ships along the water. The menu looks delicious, but the line here was intimidating. It wrapped outside around the corner. It was the eclectic outdoor dining and a few small tables inside right on the waterfront, unfortunately there would be outside so we sat indoors. The chocolate fudge mocha caramel toffee nut cappuccino was amazing actually everything was. We shared a Michelangelo for brunch which was goey & delicious. The Watercolor Cafe is open from 8:00 until 3:00. After hours, they have our classes and then the art studio next-door with all of their paintings on display. read more

Obsessed with this cute little cafe/coffee shop tucked away on the harbor! There was a line out the door on a Monday morning, so it must be good! Watercolor has limited indoor seating and a small outdoor patio. I grabbed an iced vanilla chai latte. The staff were so friendly, and the cafe has beautiful views of the harbor. They have a number of signature lattes and "poppies" aka their version of Pop Tarts. How cute! Watercolor is one of two local coffeeshops on the island (so I'm told by a local) so support a local biz during your trip to Mack Island! read more

9/25/2025 we spent the day at Mackinac Island, MI. A great little get away with plenty of Hotels, Inns and other places to stay on the island as well as quaint little shops, resultants, bars and entertainment. We took the boat from Mackinaw City which was about a 20 minute ride. There is $15.00 daily parking in Mack City with shuttle service to the boarding area. Be careful to avoid the $75.00 daily parking lot. We arrived at the island with oodles of people, horse drawn buggies & wagons, bicycles and lots of dog walkers. NO vehicles on the island so wear comfy shoes. We decided on Watercolor Cafe for lunch and it was really good. It's water side with indoor and outdoor seating AND PET FRIENDLY! Our lunch was amazing, the staff very friendly and the place really clean and welcoming. Enjoy your visit to the island! Oh yea, the private residences are AMAZING as is the downtown. read more

Make sure to come early to avoid long lines. Plenty of small tables both inside and outside but I suggest sitting indoors to enjoy the water views! Long story short I was having a really hard day with many life stressors going on and when we went into the restaurant we decided to leave because we couldn't find a table and I left really frustrated (inappropriately so and not like myself). The next day when we went back, I was embarrassed because I was ashamed of my behavior the day prior- the cashier lit up and smiled when he saw us back, was overly kind and accommodating and instead of judging from the outside what looked like a bratty lady leaving in a huff he clearly had compassion even though he had no clue even what I had been going through. One of those moments you realize most people are more understanding than you think and it meant a lot to me, a small act of kindness that made a big impact. This cafe is super cute! Be prepared to wait, as the lines can be quite long. We just needed some hot coffee and I was curious about the lilac latte, so we tried those and hubby got also a cinnamon roll. We already had breakfast at the hotel, but looking at other plates the food looked very good and I'll definitely be back to try some of the vegan options they have. The location and ambience of this cafe are perfect, but that's where it ends. I came in the afternoon and ordered an iced latte which tasted like chocolate milk... nonetheless, I was excited to return earlier the next morning for the famous pop tarts. I very nicely asked for one from the bottom tray as the middle tray's looked terrible. The server was so rude and made me feel ridiculous that I would dare make such a request. I didn't ask for one that was way in the front or difficult to reach at all and when you're paying $7 for a pastry, it doesn't seem that unreasonable to want a pretty one. The ones I got also barely had any filling compared with the ones on the other tray. I just felt surprised they weren't very consistent in quality. It is sad to me that customer service means absolutely nothing anymore! I was so excited to try and it just kind of ruined the experience for me and I would never go back. Watercolor Cafe checked a lot of boxes. Ambiance was adorable, with lovely harbor views. We lucked out with a sunny spot to drink tea + coffee while reading and escaping the wind for a bit. Super cute cafe on the island! We sat indoors as it was pretty busy out on the patio area but I loved the vibe of the color palette and the mismatch chairs. We got an apple poppie to split and it was very yummy. I wish there was a little bit more filling but I was pleasantly surprised that the icing was not overwhelming and the pastry was flaky and not dry at all. We both got the S'mores Mocha, which was one of their fall specialty lattes. It was mostly mocha but still very good. Watercolor Cafe is a bit of a hidden gem on the island. It's tucked away but right on the water and offers a gorgeous combination of amazing coffee, charming location, and wonderful service. We stopped by here multiple times during our 5 day stay on the island (which for folks who like to adventure and find new spots to go while on vacation--this is saying something!). It's an order at the counter and they'll bring your food/drink to you sort of set-up. They have all the usual coffee shop favorites and a few specials on any given day. While we were there they had a white chocolate pistachio latte on special, which I ordered and enjoyed. We came for breakfast as well as for lunch and it's great for either. The dining room is eclectic and cute and overlooks the water. They also have some outdoor seating that's tucked away and protected for lovely weather (and so protected, might be ok for cooler less-than-lovely weather as well). You order at the counter, but they have a good number of large menus so you can review them before you get to the front. We ordered an iced lilac latte, egg and avocado wrap, egg and chorizo burrito, and a vanilla latte. I tried to get a strawberry poppy, but they had already run out and wouldn't have more for an hour. Seating is both inside and outside. There aren't a ton of tables, but you can take items to go. We sat inside which had a cute, artsy, boho feel. The food was good and generous portions. Everything felt fresh and not greasy. The lilac latte was a bit much for me so I couldn't drink it all, but it was good. My mom liked the general latte. One of my favorites on the island! I always stop here and sometimes stop here more than once while on vacation. Watercolor Cafe is outside of downtown and so charming and quiet. It is behind the Bay View B&B (yellow building) and can be hard to find at first. It is on the water by the harbor. Seating outside but not on the water. Inside is adorable with pastels and gentle colors greeting you. The cafe is also an art space. Staff are always friendly and working hard to get out orders quickly. Menu wise they have smoothies, breakfast, lunch, and of course coffee. But their "poppies" aka homemade pop tarts and they are amazing and a must! They are huge and worth the price and calories. I have had their oatmeal and smoothie bowls and I am never disappointed. The oatmeal is hot and filling. You can order add-ins as well. The smoothie bowls are all delicious. Great toppings too! Their coffee is also great and they offer a seasonal menu as well for coffees. All reasonably priced which is great especially on the island. read more

As a local who spent my summer living and working on the island take it from me that this is the best place for coffee and breakfast on Mackinac. I visited just about every week I was there - sometimes more than once! The lilac latte and harmony matcha are must tries. I also love the chipotle turkey sandwich.
