Great off-season visit. We pretty much had the place to ourselves on a chilly mid-March weekday . Beautiful beach views, lots of woodsy trails (most still too muddy at that moment to check out...) a cute playground, and lots of picnic spots. We didn't check out the camping area, but I'm sure it's super busy during the summer months. Took a long walk on the beach, and loved the rocky LI Sound shoreline and the gorgeous views of the hills in the distance. First time here, I'd be happy to come back again, off season or after hours; I bet the sunsets are AMAZING!!! read more

Terrible. People swimming and absolutely no enforcement of the rules/laws of no swimming. No parameters in place to mitigate tick bites. Broken down parking lot and roads, potholes. Speed limit is 15 MPH and park employees zipping by in carts almost hitting pedestrians. Trails not cleaned off to walk and hike. Teach the people at front security to thank veterans and military for their service. read more

Picnic site: I wouldn't recommend it if you're traveling far to come here. Camping site: 100% recommend to get away from your busy everyday life! Just make sure to pack your sprays for protection against bugs (ticks). Forget about firewood. You're not allowed to bring your own. You make your reservation through a link on NYS parks. You pack up your car, truck, trailer & you make your way out there! Don't forget your grill! They have sites available for tents and another section for trailers so you can cook up for water and electricity. Oh, and they have cottages you can reserve but they're booked in blocks of 7 days. What I love about wildwood state park is that it's very clean and they have great staff and the park rangers. They are very helpful and nice. They made checking in very easy. They'll give you a pass for the car and make sure it's on your dashboard so you don't end up with a ticket. The restrooms are super clean and they have shower stalls in side. They're always cleaning. I can hear them SCRUBBING the shower stalls as I use the toilet. Of course, keep in mind that during the "rush", it isn't as clean but they come and clean it. It's open 24/7. There are sinks outside of the restroom and some people use it to wash their dishes. I wish they'd clean up after their food scraps but humans are humans. Once you set up your camp, you can leave for the beach. Or you can go out to check out the local farms or shops if you're willing to drive out. It's nice. You should especially if you have little ones with you. If you don't want little creatures and critters all over your food, make sure you pack it away once you're done eating and throw out the garbage. They have dumpsters stationed through the camping grounds along with bins where you can dump your hot coals. I'm not taking chances with raccoons or squirrels so I dump my garbage at the end of the day. Wildwood state park also has a nice camp store. The gentlemen who work there are very nice so please don't be rude to them. (Someone was screaming at the poor man over chicken tenders/fingers). They sell ice cream, bags of ice, food, coffee, firewood, and fire pits for rental. Happy camping! read more

Happy #thankyouthursday! so glad Friday is almost here! Posting a review from a while back. This is one of my favorite campsites with a really nice beach! It's a great spot for camping! Not too far in Long Island and a 5-10 minute walk will take you to the beach nearby. There's a parking area right by as well so you can just walk down the ramp when you get there. I recommend coming when it's warmer! The campsite bathrooms are really clean (I see people cleaning pretty often, in the morning and every few hours). They block every other stall to keep the social distancing rule. I've camped here 5-6 times already over the years, 2x this year alone back in September. It's already a bit cold that time, the wind gets crazy at night so wear or bring something warm with you just in case! This is definitely one of the better campsites I've been to. Lewin farm is also close by, like 10 minutes away (driving) so you can do some fruit picking when it's the right season. I looked at some other reviews and the noise level does depend on who's camping there that night, I've had times when I heard groups partying past midnight and also quiet nights. Remember to reserve a site ahead of time! There's a minimum of 2 nights stay. Weekends will likely be louder and more crowded than camping on weekdays. read more

Booked here for a 2-night weekend camping trip and wouldn't recommend camping here. Lets start with the good: Great Location - close to Port Jefferson to the west or the North Fork to the east, you really can't beat the location. Beach - Nice beach on the sound, which is a great amenity for a campsite. B26 - Good site, not too many neighbors, tolerable amount of bugs, and good shade. Bathrooms are good. And the BAD? Low level bad - Beach access is a bit of a slog down a hill. Not recommended for people with mobility issues. Mid-level bad - It is annoying that you have to rent a fire ring. I have never had to rent a fire ring at a NYS Park campsite. High level bad - this campsite is just too noisy. All of the great things it has going for it listed above are negated when it is past 2 AM and most of the park is still up making noise. A lot of noise. Park employees came around with a bullhorn at around 1AM trying to enforce quite hours, but to no avail. I wouldn't stay here again. read more

Just came back from a three night camping trip with mixed feelings. Our campsite was B34. Campgrounds have large trees scattered around so your chances of pitching your tent in the shade are pretty decent. Our site was primarily dirt. Some sites have grass. We were near a water spigot and within an easy walk of the bathroom and camp store. The extra hot water in the showers was nice. No quarters needed. Plenty of toilet paper. I saw the bathrooms being cleaned fairly frequently; however, they did get messier once more campers came trickling in on Friday. There are three sinks located outside of the bathroom building, a drink vending machine, and several power outlets scattered throughout. This is our first experience camping at a NY state park. Campsites are very close to each other with little to no buffer areas. Our first two nights, our neighbors were blasting music and talking loudly until past 1 am. Our last night was thankfully quiet by 11 pm. Everyone seems to be up and moving early in the morning so if you prefer to sleep in, this isn't the place for you. The camp store accepts credit card with a $10 minimum charge. They sell things like ice cream, popsicles, coffee, alcohol, fries, and random breakfast items. Small bundles of firewood are $8. We used up three bundles over a few hours. Fire ring is a $20 deposit and $10 each night. You have to bring it back by 11 am when you leave or risk losing your deposit. Fire ring wound up being a rectangular metal bucket. The bay and playground are within walking distance. There's a parking lot between the two if you really don't want to drive. The way to the bay is down a hill that's steep at some points. It's paved all the way. You access the bay via steps. The bay itself is rocky. It was nice to experience at least once. Overall, I think our family personally prefers to camp in more remote areas. If you can, I'd definitely camp during the week versus Friday - Sunday. We arrived on a Thursday and didn't have any direct neighbors. It became noticeably more crowded, messy, and loud by Friday evening. By Sunday, I was over the crowds. read more

Wildwood is a fair place to camp, but not the best at all. Some sites are more secluded than others, but it is loud there especially on the weekends. Feels like a glorified backyard BBQ. They do have some nice trails to walk and the pebble beach at the LI Sound is a great spot to walk to on a temperate night. We actually slept there for several hours. They are also in a good location in a great surrounding area. What really turns me off about the place, however, is the rental fee for their fire pits. This is the only place I've camped that doesn't include a fire pit at the site, and $13/day to rent one is asinine. We ended up going over to Ace Hardware and getting a metal bucket for $25. Wasn't gonna give them my money to rent a pit just on principle. I think the site was $35/night if not mistaken, which is by far the cheapest one is gonna be able to stay on LI. Hotel costs are outrageous. read more

Didn't care for the beach at all - very crowded and not following any "rules" However, really enjoyed the trails!! Peaceful and challenging elevation if you take those paths. Easy to social distance on them, many options of staying on main trails or going off that to side trails. Good for mountain biking, hiking and lots of bbq/picnic areas. 10 people max and 10 tables apart for picnic area. You can easily do a 2 mile or a 10 mile with twists and turns :) read more

It's a pretty decent place to camp. It's cheap and the space is MASSIVE. A ton of people here over July 4th weekend, but it did feel like we had enough space. the only downside is that you can hear everything and everyone. We tried sleeping at 12 am and the group next to us was so loud that we really didn't get to sleep until 2am. I would feel bad, but we ended up waking up at 5am to watch the sunrise and we were quite loud so.....payback? The bathrooms weren't the best, but you could deal with it for just a few nights. They kept running out of toilet paper so bring your own just in case. Easy to rent the metal fire pit and buy firewood at the store. I don't recommend having the coffee at the store - it is awful and most likely Folgers. Don't waste your money. Beach was also nice, but quite rocky. For a relatively cheap camping trip, this is a great destination. read more

This could have been 5 stars if they allowed dogs at the campground. The grounds were clean and well maintained. There was a general store that even served breakfast. The rv sites are nice, full hookup. We setup on a tent site with no hookups, more room than most rv sites. Could have fit 3 campers on the site. Walk to the water was nice, and the concession at the shore had something for everyone (including adult beverages). The kids enjoyed the playground and there was plenty of things to do just outside the campground. read more

I stayed in a cottage which is exceptional. It's a two bedroom, a kitchen with all the kitchenette I need to cook for two toddlers. Ductless ac, screen patio and the wood burning fire pit bbq for steak or fish that I catch from the rocky beach is unbelievable tasty. The best part is one of the best and affordable place in Long Island comparing to other travel websites in the area. read more

Terrific place to camp out under the stars...or in a tent. We opted for the latter last weekend. Each reserved spot is spacious enough for the allowable max per spot (2 tents, 6 people) where we were setup in Loop D. Total cost was just over $50.00 and included parking for 1 vehicle. The area is pretty clean. Even on a summer night, the bugs didn't bother us too much. Staff come around to collect bagged trash that you can leave by the car path. Ample trees where we were, to provide additional shade when it's sunny and hot out. The restroom facilities were not terrible for such a public venue. Didn't make me forget home but I've encountered much worse at public parks. There were no grills but there was a water pump in the ground where you can get drinking water, wash items, etc. I'm not an experienced camper so can't compare this to other parks where you can camp out, but I liked Wildwood enough to look forward to coming back again soon. Being in an open area, in tents, you will see/hear other groups. My only complaint was there was another group which had several ladies who got up super early (like 3:30AM) and were chatting loudly. I don't know why they had to yap so loudly but they did. But that's nothing against the campground. Rude people are just that. read more

This was our second time camping at Wildwood and we were very disappointed second time around. There was nobody patrolling the park. Folks were playing loud music, children literally yelling, drunk campers walking and talking super loud on their way to the restrooms, etc. I'm no party pooper, trust me but I try to be respectful and considerate of those around me. If it were 3pm I would be a bit more understanding but at 3am it's a whole different story. Do your thing but do it quietly. It's that simple people. We stayed on site E36. It's all sandy and mostly shade. The park/beach itself is beautiful but slowly it's going downhill. I gave it a three star because of the new bathrooms/showers but even that was disgusting. People took showers and left their garbage behind for the next person to deal with. Other folks were brushing their teeth in the sinks that are meant to wash your dishes. Come on people!!! There's a camp store where you can purchase coffee ($2.15), breakfast, snacks, fire container ($8 per day plus a $20 deposit), and fire wood ($7 a bundle). They have also started offering nightly entertainment and are currently building cottages. All in all, I guess it's okay but with so many State parks that offer camping I'm not sure I'll be returning. read more

"We did not know you can not have more than 2 vehicles assigned to a camp site. We were not informed until AFTER we arrived and AFTER we drove 2 hours to Wildwoods that, that was going to be a problem. We were told to park our 3rd vehicle at King Kullen which was 3 miles away! You try parking your car overnight at a grocery store 3 miles away and see if it'll still be there after 2 days. Please make parking details clearer on your website. Quiet hours were not honored. Many nearby sites were loud with music and kids running around in the middle of the night, clearly after the Quiet hours. Instead of being strict about how many cars can park at your parking lot, be more strict about honoring Quiet Time. Also, some of the staff at the front were RUDE. Please retrain for better customer service. Other than that, nice park." read more

Just got back from the most amazing camping experience I have ever had! If you live in NYC/LI and you want to go party in the woods, this is the place to be! Here are some of the things you can do here: - put a massive speaker on the roof of your car to blast music for several hours (make sure it's large enough that it can be heard about half mile away by all the other campers) - cram about a dozen people and multiple tents onto your campsite so your whole crew can drive up and party with you - stay up to 3 a.m. singing karaoke and screaming randomly or just blasting music - run your truck headlights into the wee hours of the morning for light while you are partying so you don't have to bring a lantern - run a generator randomly day or night to charge all of your electronic devices - drive through camp roads in the middle of the night - drive through the camp roads at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning blowing your horn as a wake up call for each and every camper - take a shortcut to the bathroom by walking right through your neighbors' camp sites even in the middle of the night - piss and shit all over the bathroom so that it's so bad that people will walk to the beach to use the bathroom I don't usually write reviews for Yelp but I was so impressed with this place that I just had to share. These are all things you can literally do here - not making this up. This place has NO RULES and many of the campers have LITTLE TO NO ETIQUETTE. It's AMAZING. read more

If you have small children and like to sleep DO NOT camp here! There is zero supervision when the office closes at 9. You have to call park police with complaints. When you do complain they tell you "we are understaffed." We had children playing hide and seek at 12:30am in our site. They tripped over our tent post. The party never ends! Loud music till wee hours of the morning, 10+ people in a site! Forget all the rules you read on the website... they aren't enforced (with the exception on fire pits). No alcohol is a joke! They even sell it at the camp store! The bathrooms are filthy! I don't believe they were cleaned all weekend! Blood toilet paper in shower! One shower facility had no hot water by Sunday morning! Been going here for years and had the worst experience this time and won't be coming back. There were multiple loud groups that blasted music from 10pm-5am in the morning. It was nonstop partying and screaming and I even heard multiple different families say they called the office to complain but the office didn't do anything to stop it. What's the point of quiet hours if the staff won't enforce it? The bathrooms were also super dirty and had no toilet paper in most stalls by the end of the day. read more

Positives I often go for a quickie and by that I mean a short hike, short wusssaa at the beach during off season. This place is so calming and soothing to the soul. Water fix heaven. I have not camped here. I have not come here when I would need to pay nor have I bbq-ed here. I feel deprived of such ventures thus far. It looks as though a planned camping trip here is absolutely amazing. There is an open field, a grilling area with grills, a playground, the beach with house that looks as though when opened they have ice cream stand and a sort of food stand on the other side. There are basketball courts. Deer sightings everywhere. Views are spectacular. The beach is not too sandy bring water shoes. The water is so calm unless a stormy day. Clear waters, I've seen folks snorkeling here. If you like walks on the beach well this is the place. It's a state park so get one of those passes it will be much cheaper I'm sure. Please be clean when here and everywhere. I have found very very very old beer cans in the sand and well they don't just disappear. Be clean folks. read more

If you're looking to camp at a children's playground then this campsite might just be a perfect place for you. It is noisy, over crowded and you'll see kids running around everywhere and their parents conveniently walking onto your campsite to get to the other side quickly. For me this was nothing more than backyard camping for city folks who just want a quick and cheap get-away from the city without having to travel too far. As for the beach, it was very rocky and uncomfortable. Walking and swimming can definitely be painful and unpleasant especially when your feet are touching the ground without swim shoes. On the plus side, the water was much more calm considering this campsite being located on the LI Sound. read more

A terrible camping ground to bring kids on the weekend. There is no supervision at night and there is parties, loud music and certainly no social distancing. Unregistered cars are parked in campsites and the loud drinking goes on till 2pm. Multiple sites are booked by the same groups to allow large parties to overflow across the sites. Don't know where one camp site begins and one ends. Staff seems overwhelmed to cope and complaints are courteously registered but not acted upon. It's a shame because it's quite nice on a weekday. But It's the Wild West on the weekends. read more

We stayed at one of their new two bedroom cabins for a weekend at the end of October. Sadly the day we arrived, it was torrential rain for the whole day so we spent most of the day indoors. We were able to go outside for a rain walk and it was lovely having the kids splash in the puddles. It is a very kid friendly place for a vacation. You can pull the car up and park right next to the cabin. The 2 bedrooms allow you to share with another family. A third family was able to have the cabin right next to us so we were able to go back and forth. One thing to note about the 2 bedrooms is that one of the bedrooms is not fully enclosed. There is a bedroom with a queen bed and bedroom with 2 twin beds. The twin bed bedroom have sliding doors that do not go all the way to the roof so sound and light can get through. This made it difficult for naps. Otherwise, we loved the outdoor, screened in sun room where after the kids went to sleep the adults could sit outside and talk. We also loved the trails and beach so close to the park that you could walk to it. All around a great time. I would love to come back over the summer except you have to rent it for a minimum of 7 days which I think would be too long. read more

We visited May 2nd - 5th, 2019. Sites were spacious and the park was very clean and well maintained. We liked the fact that they had full hookups. The only con's are they do not allow dogs. No alcohol is allowed however the people camping next to us were drinking night and day in the open and very drunk. You must bring your own fire pit. It was early in the season and rained so we didn't get to experience the beach area. Overall we had a great time and would return. read more

Hey Yelp, it's been a minute but I'm back. Sorry for my absence here, but life has gotten really busy. Anyway, after camping at Wildwood State Park I felt the need to share what it was like. Pros: 1. Cute hiking trails and beach, very romantic. 2. I felt really safe with state and park police presence being very consistent day and night. 3. Park staff was very polite. Cons: 1. There was absolutely no enforcement of "Quiet Hours". (I know, I know. I just stated that there was a huge presence of the authorities, which is why I was shocked that no one told the people to stop playing their loud music, or the drunks to be quiet.) 2. There was no grilling area/fire pit in the camping spot you stay at. (I know, that's ridiculously weird...right? Fortunately we took our own grill to cook on. However, we had no pit to start a fire at night. It is so bizarre to me that this park has neither amenity at each camp site. However, I think I know why. At the Camp Store they rent grills and fire pits. How convenient (Read with sarcasm). I may be too cynical, but it seems to me that the lack of fire pits and grills in the spot is to make money by renting them, because we couldn't come up with any other explanation. Furthermore, they don't have enough grills to rent to every spot, so make sure you take your own grill and don't count on them to have one. As far as the tin fire rings they rent. My ring was completely corroded on the bottom. This presents a challenge for cleaning up the hot coals since they end up on the ground and aren't contained in the metal container. As if that were not enough, it's very bad for the roots of the trees to have coals above them. Over time, you end up scorching the roots which, in turn, kill the tree. 3. The bundle of wood was approximately $8, but it was so small. One bundle lasted us for two or three hours. 4. I'm not sure if the wind is always blowing towards the shore at Wildwood, but during my stay at the park I was not able to fish because my weight and lure would get blown back to shore. The fishing opportunity at this park was really abysmal. 5. The lack of rule enforcement also extends to the number of cars and tents at each site. There is a limit, but they do not enforce it. This leads to a poor experience in camping because too many people are on a site and it's not aesthetically pleasing to see such a "busy" site/park. Bottom line: I wouldn't go out of my way to return to this park. I wouldn't choose this state park over another state park for a trip. However, if this park was my only option I would go back...just with my own grill, fire pit, and wood for burning. read more

Nice escape from the city. So much so that camping here is now a tradition. My only gripe is the lack of maintenance in the bathrooms/showers. Stayed for 4 days and each day the restrooms were filthy( tissue, dirty toilets stained with blood, showers clogged with dirt and urine). Employees ignored countless complaints from other sites about the issue. I understand weekends are probably extremely busy but it would be nice if they cleaned it a bit often. I recommend star gazing on the basketball court at night! read more

I was expecting loud music and party going on until the late night because this place is close to NYC and it is big family and friends oriented park. But one thing, I saw was very shocking, totally unbelievable. Right next to my camp site, the people were doing their CAR WASH on the camp site. I could not believe what they were doing there. First I thought they just wipe their car with towel, but soon it got bubbled all over and rinse/wash with the water in the big bucket. Can you believe this? From what other campers told me, this is the best campsite on Long Island; it's certainly a good deal (I think we paid $20/day in season) and the setting is lovely. I'm used to state parks being woodsy this is more like a park-park, with all the campsites visible to each other and lots of filtered light from mature trees. Regulars tell me that our section (D) is more family oriented, and that the partiers tend to stay in section C, so be forewarned. We spent two weeks here, ending the Friday before Labor Day weekend. Even Even full to capacity on weekends, it wasn't particularly noisy - a few radios here and there but no throbbing car stereos. For the most part the "white noise" of a bazillion crickets and tree frogs was the loudest thing around. We met some really nice people, from a Chinese Christian youth group to an Orthodox family, a group of friends from Trinidad, some very hip Japanese college guys and a crowd of Guatemalans. Very neighborly without being intrusive. And (except for the aforementioned college guys) everybody's unusually tidy. Most remarkably: nobody, but nobody messes with your stuff. Except, maybe, raccoons, crows, and deer. Deer EVERYWHERE, right up close as if they own the joint. Only one central bathhouse, but it's new, large, and well-maintained, with plenty of high-pressure hot water. There are NO facilities at the campsites (obviously, there are at the RV sites), so bring your inverter if you need to charge your laptop and cellphone. Be a friend and don't annoy everyone with your generator. Pumps are reasonably convenient, with good-tasting, cold water. Remarkably bug-free when we were there. Downside: you really, really have to pay if you want a fire. $25 cash deposit on a fire "ring" (a galvanized washtub), plus $7 a day, PLUS you have to buy your firewood there, at $8 a bundle, I think. The beach is a bit of a walk (and uphill on the way home!) although you can drive to within about 500 feet of it. Gravely, not "rocky", and again: clean. Beautiful view. The tiny camp canteen has every emergency supply you can imagine, from tent stakes to warming lube. But be forewarned: you pay a hefty premium for the convenience. Ice is $4 a bag and you will pay $3.50 for a Frozfruit bar. OTOH, the coffee is good, hot, and always fresh, the staff are wonderful, and they will make you just about anything you can think of for breakfast. (The office staff, however, are a bunch of annoyingly clueless kids.) GET THERE BEFORE DARK or you will never find your campsite. We didn't realize we were in the wrong spot until three days later. read more

This place, though beautiful, is ruined by uncontrolled, unregulated partying and loud campers...this happens every weekend, and all night. The state park rangers did nothing to stop them. They threatened them, but did nothing. Instead they screamed, played their music, and partied until 5 am. Half our group went to a hotel. The scenery is beautiful at this Wading River state park where you can barbecue, camp and lay out on the beach. However, the pollution is absolutely disgusting. The clientele who frequent this once beautiful park are very shady. They leave the park in shambles, litter and smoke weed in the parking lot in plain site. There was a huge fight in the parking lot while we were leaving. The best part: Need to use the bathroom? Might as well whip it out and piss on the floor because that's what it seemed everyone else does! It stunk of urine with yellow puddles all over the floor. I ran out nauseous. We wound up leaving after 15 minutes. Disgusting. I will never come to this sleazy park again. Such a shame because the grounds are great and the beach is beautiful. Not recommended unless you're due for a tetanus shot because you'll need one after visiting here. read more

I saw a lot of negative reviews about this campground and was really worried before we went on our trip but we had a great time and I wanted to make sure that I left my own review to help some people feel good about staying here. The campsite is HUGE, the biggest in Long Island I think, but it doesn't feel big, dirty or industrial. It's rather quaint with everyone settled in the woods. It's very family oriented and has a nice sense of community. I saw reviews where people said it was full of party-type people being loud into the wee-hours but I suppose it all depends on who you're camping next to. Our neighbors where quiet and respectful. The facilities are really nice, clean and well maintained. The bathrooms and showers are top notch for a campground. Two scoops for the staff who were helpful and polite! The lady who works the little camp store was also really friendly. Chatty in a way that's rare for New York and it was refreshing. We went to another campground last year and there were spiders, daddy-long-legs, everywhere. This site had almost no bugs. It was fantastic. The campground is set up a hill in a pine forest and it is a quick walk down the hill to the beach. The people on the beach were also really cool, when you got away from the swimming area it was mostly fisherman. The campground itself doesn't allow alcohol but there is a great beach stand with picnic tables and umbrellas that sells cold beer. Yum! I recommend this site! Have a great time! read more

When life in the urban jungle (yes, even Queens is urban people) gets too much, I drag myself out to the wilds of Long Island for some nature time. In the summer - it's a walk on the beach with maybe a dip or two in the relatively clean waters of the Long Island sound. Maybe a picnic and a nap. Or a long hike through the woods and breathing in much of the ocean air mixed with the verdant green of the forest. In the fall/winter - another long walk on the beach, picking up driftwood, jumping off rocks and taking "action shots" of my brothers (and they trying to shove me into the now freezing water and calling those action shots). I've been coming to Wildwood for a long time now and it's never disappointed. You might need to finagle a car to get out there, but it's worth the hassle.* As good as it gets. *Or do like my family and friends do - con someone (in my case, I'm the dupe) with a car to take you out there with the promise of fun and food! Bring food, you end up staying there a lot longer than you think you could. read more

Awesome place for a family get away or short vacation. We camped here over two days, it is a short easy walk to the beach and playground with numerous trails throughout with deer roaming it. Pros: It's very social, great set of communities and families come here It's organized, signs posted everywhere with simple directions (eg. where to put hot coals or emergency number signs) It has a beautiful beach Well set up picnic grounds Awesome (but small) playground Good space between campsites Cheap nightly rate (roughly $19/night) after the $9 reservation fee (Fri & Sat stay early June) Reasonably priced camp store except for the camping fire rings/gear. Make sure you bring your own metal container and wood (treated) as all fires are above ground. Some people however were going into the woods and bringing back wood from the wild (I don't recommend it, it's illegal but I witnessed many doing it!) Clean showers and toilets (cleaned frequently) I saw the custodian in there about 4 times over our two night stay. Safe and secure environment Check-in is simple and quick Cons: Kinda crowded during the warmer months Reservation fee is a bit of a bummer Some crowds are too noisy, others not so much. There are noise level rules put into place which I didn't see or hear anyone break. Some mosquitos but what do ya expect? Shower cubicles are tight as most are, but could hardly wash my toddler in it with me alongside him. Fire rings are a rip-off - BRING YOUR OWN and your own FIREWOOD too! TICKS- the signs are everywhere warning you to check yourself whenever outdoors and wash yourself completely. Spray deet/repellent on your feet and legs, wear long sleeved clothing if you take the trails and be sure to keep your tent closed when not in use. Overall we're coming back with a bigger group - it's perfect for social camping and family camping! read more

I guess I should have known. Friday night. Loud music from two directions, bright lights, kids on what are essentially motorcycles (electric bikes), no helmets. I'm too concerned to let my little kids off by themselves while I try to obey the no scooter/skateboard rule. What a fool I was! What's that smell, marijuana? I won't be coming back. In fact I'm skipping tomorrow, Saturday isn't going to be any better. Firewood and fire ring prices are typical. Policies are typical, too, for a state campsite. No dogs. And no refund for tomorrow's reservation, either. The beach is nice. A short walk away. Smooth rocky and the sound side means mild waves. read more

Great place to camp or visit the beach. Be mindful of putting your trash in the receptacles- there are lots of wild animals- deer, raccoons, etc. Beach attracts a good, mixed crowd. Lots of people fish. read more
