I like that I usually happen to agree with the publishers POV ; ) But even when I don't - his POV is more critical and analytical then 'corporate' news and very well researched.

Most of the writers published in this quarterly aren't aiming to be The Next Big Thing In The Publishing World, although they certainly have the talent to become just that. They're writing for writing's sake, and their work reflects that fact. Usually themed, Tin House Magazine packs a punch with its unique offerings in fiction, poetry and the art of the essay. It's a wonder that this magazine isn't available on newsstands everywhere, but then again its Fall 2009 issue, the doubly-themed "Hope/Dread," featured a brilliant sun on one side and a menacing devil on the other, and the literature was chosen accordingly. Try putting that out there on the same rack with Cosmo and see which one sells faster. But then again, Tin House isn't about sales, at least not in the conventional publishing sense. They are all about good literature, and they're not afraid to publish good literature. In a world gone mad - or at the very least, dominated by popular fiction that's often not worth the paper it's printed on - Tin House is a breath of fresh air. Sometimes strange, often different, usually thought-provoking air, but fresh air all the same. Can I get an "Amen" to that?

And I almost feel like I am at adult summer camp or some Ivy League east coast campus for that one week in July!

Just Out is a bi-monthly (no pun intended) local newspaper here in Portland that emphasizes GLBT…read morenews and issues, but is a great read for anyone who enjoys great writing and (occasionally) risk-taking journalism. My company (a high-end car dealership) has advertised with Just Out for several years, and this review is limited to my experience advertising with the paper. I love reading it too, but that's another review.... What we sell, primarily, is the high end of mid-range cars. BMW 3 series, Audi A4's, Volvo's, C-Class Mercedes, etc. We've tried several ad venues over the years; what we've found is that in addition to the flexibility, attention to our needs, and on-the-spot professionalism we've experienced with the Just Out staff, the return is simply unbeatable. Every time one of our Just Out ads comes out, our phone rings -- and we are able to connect with people who want to buy our cars. I think our success with Just Out has a lot to do with their demographic, which is both relatively better educated than average and relatively wealthy, and our style -- Just Out's readers are smart and looking for both value and quality -- but if you can please their readers consistently, they will send you more business than you can handle. When you're considering the circulation vs. $$, they seem a bit pricey, but if you look closely at the return (as all of us business owners have done these last two years, if we're still business owners) you'll see that they're the most effective and cheapest way to get your name and your product/service out there. We'll continue to advertise with Just Out as long as they continue to rock like they have for us. Personal props to Larry Lewis, the sales director, for all the time he's taken to give honest feedback on our ads, and his staff who have helped him make our relationship so successful. We live in a rural area that sometimes gets snow, and if there's just the least bit of snow, no paper. This is very frustrating, because we only get the Wednesday/Sunday paper, so like yesterday, we failed to get our New Year's Day paper. It's not like this area is a mystery...the carrier should have known what they were getting into when they took this route. If you can't drive in the snow, don't take the route! I mean, even the garbage trucks manage to get up here every week no matter what! The best part is, when you call to report the missing paper, they gladly offer you a credit instead of getting you the paper! Well, the New Year's day paper is one that might actaully be interesting, so I want it, but no such luck. :(

I've been reading the Oregonian since I moved to Oregon in 1978. It was a vital part of life in…read morethose years, but it is only a shadow of itself today. Paper delivery to the home, a hallmark feature of newspapers, has been cut back to 4 days a week with an electronic version offered as a substitute. The internet offering id substandard when compared to other sites. They could hire someone with skills to correct the continuing errors, but they do not. Clearly, they do not care about their product or their subscribers.
