Amateur hour. Beware. I've bid at other auction houses in the area for over 20 years. I drove over in person after reviewing the auctioneers website listing this Live Auction, only to be told, lectured by the manager in a totally unprofessional manner really, all their auctions are "live online" only. Because COVID. (It's now 2025.) After digging through the whole website I found one sentence deep down on one page referring to the "live online" policy. This is what's known as gaslighting. Went because they had picked up some unique items, and to try them as I am looking for an insurance appraiser for some museum-quality antiques. Obviously it won't be this firm. To the consignor of the Kemble Bergdoll lots and other potential sellers, you're missing a bunch of bids from at least one serious collector due to their unprofessionalism. Consider this in context of many other comments here. Based on other responses I fully expect to be flamed and by the owner. This isn't how business works. read more

I've purchased from William Bunch Auctions on several occasions and have always been pleased with my items. The back-of-the-house staff has always been very pleasant and helpful. The front-of-the-house staff, however, leave a bit to be desired. I've probably caught the gals at the counter having a bad day, but there is never any warmth or appreciation there. In addition, the "Conditions of Sale" states that payment must be made within 10 days and pickups within 25 days. I get a call 2 days after the auction house, asking when I'm going to pay and pick up. Why not state that payment is due at the time of the sale? I just feel harassed by the staff and am left only bidding on items I ABSOLUTELY can't live without. Other auction houses in the area have much better customer service and thus, much more of my business. read more

I have won several auction lots over the past few years at the in-person, online and phone auctions. I have yet to sell anything but will use them when ready. I find the photos and descriptions of each lot useful and accurate. I live close enough to view the lots pre-auction which of course helps. On preview days the staff is helpful in locating and viewing the lots. Post-sale the office staff is professional and the back-office staff is helpful loading any larger lots. I don't know what else I could reasonably expect except maybe free beer. read more

First time purchasing from this auction house, and I have a couple of gripes, but overall, they're a great operation. 1) Their online bidding platform has a bit of a learning curve. I missed out on an item I REALLY REALLY wanted because of it. 2) When the item you want is up for bid, the time to decide if you want it goes VERY QUICKLY and there is no soft close. I don't mind there not being a soft close, but the speed of the competing bids coming up and the time you have to make a decision is just too fast. I would've bid higher on items I lost out on, and I probably got nervous and bid on an item I probably would've passed on. 3) The online descriptions of the items are VERY minimal. When you're bidding out of town and don't have a chance to preview (assuming you can), you need as much information as possible. I got two items I probably would've passed on had I been able to preview and gleaned their style and condition. 4) The premium is too high. That said, and I know that seems like a lot of negatives, but their inventory is really good. They get some really nice pieces. And they are professional. And pickup is seamless. You can come anytime M-F between 9-5. They'll even load for you. read more

Item missing from lot: There is no apology, no acknowledgment of inconvenience to buyer. Office manager is rude and argumentative. If you do not have time or ability to preview what you bid on BEWARE. Lot descriptions do not state MAJOR damage to listed items. Cracks and chips in items are not shown in photographs and are not stated in item descriptions. I purchased a porcelain item, the listing description mentioned crazing (customary) but not a very poorly mended and obvious crack (not shown in photographs) that makes item impossible to re-sell. Very questionable ethics. They say, "You could have scheduled a preview." But my work schedule makes this impossible. Would STRONGLY discourage doing business here unless you are able to attend an in-person auction and view the item throughly before bidding. read more

Their written description was accurate but when I asked a question about it, I was given inaccurate information. It was an honest mistake on their part, but I relied on the information. They gave me a full refund WITHOUT QUESTION. They were quick and efficient, no hassles. I admire the way they do business and would not hesitate to do business with William Bunch again. read more

I had the unpleasant experience to purchase from William Bunch through the LiveAuctioneers.com (LV) platform for a recent auction. I have been using LV for about 5 years and have never had a problem until William Bunch. They did not honor my final bid on an auction lot even though the LV platform closed the auction with my winning bid, which LV confirmed by sending me an email confirmation that i won the lot and the lot is STILL in my LV account as having been won. They favored a local bidder on their platform due to a "clerical error", but that have refused to correct the lot in my favor. When speaking to the manager, she was rude, even though she acknowledged their error, and then hung up on me when i said I would be leaving a bad review. Do not trust this firm. There are several other reviews where people had the same or similar "clerical error" that affected me, so they know they have a problem but do nothing to fix it. Seems more like favoring a local client than honoring an online bidder. How can anyone trust them? read more

I sent well over $200,000 of magnificent porcelain objects of art and got a check for $20,000. The kicker is that he came high recommended. Later I sent 2 fur coats. My mistake for not putting a reserve on the coats. An $85,000 Russian Sable, ankle length , was sold for $95.00 as a brown fur coat. I was very clear about what I was sending, along with a coyote jacket that I don't even want to talk about. Honestly, I'd stay away. read more

Merchandise selection here varies as with any auction house - sometimes it's great, sometimes it's just so so. Folks who work here are generally polite and helpful - particularly Mr. Bunch himself. But what the auction list says is in the box may not be what is actually in the box and defects are not consistently pointed out. ALWAYS check to make sure that the item you are interested in is actually there and intact before bidding. The rote response from Bunch's office to a friend who did not get what was specified on the printed shelf lot list from Bunch was, "That's what the preview is for." No refunds after the fact so make sure you double check EVERYTHING before bidding. read more

I have to say that this place while a little pricier than other places the quality of service and the people that work there are that much more professional than other places in the area. While they go through a hectic day they seem to try to keep their sense of humor and make it an enjoyable experience. They also treat you with respect. even if you are spending the minimum. They also do a nice job of keeping order. I have never walked away from this place worrying about the security of the Items that I have purchased. read more
