They can do all kinds of work, from a simple watch battery change, to fixing antique clocks-- even better, they've got a stash of old parts on hand so they might be able to do quick fixes right on the spot. They estimated a 2-week turnaround but had it ready in just one week! The movement was completely disassembled and cleaned, and both the chime and clock springs were replaced. This place rocks. Came in last Friday with a dead Seiko quartz clock (1985-ish) had some sentimental value. Given the age of the clock, I did not arrive with optimism. Walked in the door and received warm greeting and realistic options/expectations for the clock. Literally the NEXT MORNING I received a phone call that the clock was repaired and ready for pick-up! We recently moved to the area and wanted to have our 40 yo Sligh grandfather clock repaired which hasn't worked in many years. Brilliant, did work way beyond what I could have expected on a clock that purely sentimental value to my wife. Repaired a cog wheel in fact, which I know is really difficult to do. Keeps perfect time after they showed my wife how to adjust and operate the 150 year old clock. That was, in itself worth what I paid. We would never have worked out the 'tricks' of how to set it ourselves. I showed all the neighbors and the videos they sent me of the work in progress. I recommend this expert clock repairer. The Clockworks staff gave me an immediate evaluation about what could be done and not done and gave me great information about the clocks themselves. An Elgin 100 year old pocket watch was not running. I presented the watch to the lady at the counter. No comments. The nearby gentleman, working on a clock, looked across the table briefly at the watch and me. $350 to take apart and fix my watch was his quote. A jewelry store, about a 1/2 mile away offered to have their watchmaker examine my watch. Two day later the store owner called to report the watchmaker found nothing wrong with my pocket watch. It's running and could be picked up at the store. No charge. Honesty. Clockworks has had a deserved reputation of overcharging. This is a fantastic and very rare shop run by old fashioned (which is the best kind) experts in clocks and watches. We brought a clock bought at a flea market, which was kind of old and did not work. It was fixed and ready for us in one week or less. Also I accidentally ran a fairly expensive through the washing machine. Husband took it there; the crystal was fogged up. The store owner said he would do his best to clean it and dry it out, but it might still rust inside (he was very honest). That was several months ago and the watch is running like new. I had a small clock repaired and cleaned there for $150 three years ago. I just took it in for exact same service this AM (Juy 20, 2018). I requested the EXACT same service was now $250! I asked why was there such an increase? Rudely told everything goes up in price. In another encounter, I took a dual face watch in for two batteries to be replaced. They were priced at $20/battery. Then took watch to Testa's jeweler down the street and total for both batteries, $20. I will NEVER return and give tis person my business and caution others to go elsewhere. read more

I took a Seiko carriage clock with Westminster and Whittington chimes to be repaired - the spring that held in the battery had rusted through. They said it could not be repaired, the movement had to be replaced. They pushed a non-chime movement, but I really wanted a chiming movement. They said that the Westminster/Whittington chime was not available, only a Westminster/Ave Maria chime. I asked to listen to it and they played me a few notes and then stopped. I tried to explain the other features of my clock, and they cut me off that I should forget about what I had, this is what they could provide as a replacement. Pretty much take it or leave it. With a one-year warranty, the price for them to replace the movement would be $275. That was more than what I wanted to pay, so I left. Then I started searching online, and came across Clockworks.com (which has ABSOLUTELY NO connection to this Clockworks shop). And I found a Seiko movement, with Westminster/Whittington chimes - for $50 - EXACTLY what I needed. I corresponded by email with customer service, they were extremely helpful. The movement arrived within a few days, and I installed it. Yes, it took me almost two hours to get it installed and set to the correct time, and the clock chimes 3 minutes early, but that is a minor inconvenience. I don't know why this Clockworks shop said the movement wasn't available, nor why the price was so high. Their customer service was horrible. Also, there is no handicapped-accessible entrance to the shop. read more

I brought in an antique wall clock that is a treasured family heirloom. I was extremely nervous having anyone service it. The wood cabinetry was beginning to fall apart and it did not function. Clockworks exceeded my expectations. We have a grandfather type clock that had a problem. Of the three weights in the base, the middle weight was advancing faster than the other two. My wife and I decided to contact Clockworks to have someone come out and service the clock. We had purchased our clock from them back in 1995. On Saturday, 2/9/19, we were visited by an elderly couple from Clockworks. They seemed nice, but once they started, we felt something was wrong. They asked us what the problem was and when we told them, they said we were incorrect and asked if the clock was chiming. I said yes and my wife added that since we both worked during the day, we could not be absolutely sure if the clock chimed every 15 minutes every day as it's supposed to do. Again, the elderly gentleman said we were wrong and again asked us what the problem with the clock was. We repeated our answer, with my wife saying that this was all we knew and that was the reason we called them. Then the elderly man said they did not like the tone my wife was using and that she was being mean. My wife said she wasn't being mean; she was just saying what we thought was wrong with the clock. They started putting their coats back on. They actually told me that I was okay (I guess I passed what ever their standard was) but again, they stated that my wife was being mean to them and they could not work for us. This made my wife start to cry. They said once more they could not work in our house any longer and left. They had only been in our house for 17 minutes! I am not embellishing these facts. They said we were wrong about what we thought was wrong with the clock. They called my wife mean. They made my wife cry. THEY MADE MY WIFE CRY and then they left! I wish I had gotten their names as I would add that information to this review. We have had dish washer repairmen, plumbers, deck guys window restorers and other technicians come to our home to restore an appliance. If we told them what we thought the problem was, they would listen and start to work. We never, ever, were told we were wrong. Nor have we ever had anyone leave because we were mean to them. Why would anyone be mean to someone who is trying to service you. Look, if you want to purchase a good clock, go to Clockworks as the clock we purchased has lasted 25 years without a problem. However, if you want someone to service your clock, I would recommend calling anyone else in the tri-state area. These people are not worth it. I am now going to contact someone else to fix our clock. read more

I had my family's 100+ year old grandfather clock repaired on April 25, 2021. They did an overhaul of the clock movements. The grandfather clock worked until it stopped on October 9, 2021. I called Clockworks and the woman who answered was rude to me telling that she told me the clock should have been taken to their shop at the cost of $500 to get it working properly. She told me they were booked up for the month of October and to call back in November. The holidays came and went. I contacted them on January 28, 2022, and got their answering machine saying they were on vacation until February 24, 2022. I left them a message to call me back about getting my clock fixed. It's March 14 2022 and I have NOT received a phone call back at all. If they REALLY want my business, then THEY need to call me to resolve this situation. If they are NOT interested, they need to let me know and recommend another clock repair shop to fix my grandfather clock. It seems they don't care about my family grandfather clock. She was very NASTY and unprofessional. After all...this is a specialtily business model that they are in. She was very disconcerning and didn't want anyhting to do with my call. I asked her another question and she said to call someone else. That Clock Works does give out information or will not do anythng for free. I wasn't asking her to do anythng for free. I was just trying to see how much they would charge to go look at the clock. She was anything BUT friendly.
