I went to have a procedure with Dr Lao with the discussed expectation to remove a foreign body in my breast from a previous surgery. He agreed and removed a mass which did not have the foreign body. I wanted him to do the right thing and go back to get the foreign body. I had imaging to prove the location. He refused. He took my money and did not fix the problem. I am extremely unhappy. This object poses an ongoing risk to my health, which he is aware of. He was being extremely resistant to something which seems like a reasonable request. I do not recommend you go to him. read more

I've really been enjoying working with Dr Lao on reaching my cosmetic goals. He truly took his time during the consultation to understand what I want and has been really helpful in discussing my vision but also helping me understand realistic outcomes with a rhinoplasty - he understands my facial features. I came to Dr. Lao's office to have a mole removed with laser for $800. The photos I was shown during the appointment showed multiple photos showing complete removal of much worse moles, with seemingly no scarring or redness afterward. I was even encouraged to get more of my moles removed (for additional cost) at the appointment, and have had moles removed before by my medical dermatologist with no scarring or issue. However, the laser they used left me with a scar that is much more unsightly than what I initially went in to get removed. At my first follow up appointment, they injected the scar with a steroid, which only slightly shrunk the scar. At my second follow-up, I was just given silicone scar tape and rushed out in less than 5 minutes. The photo I have attached shows it post both follow-up appointments, without significant improvement. Unfortunately I will most likely need a scar amendment surgery or further laser treatments to correct this. It has been 6 months since the initial treatment. Update: I returned to the practice for my next follow-up, but the doctor refused to continue treating me unless I deleted this review. I nearly did, but he stared me down and expected me to do it in the room with him, and would not do anything until I did. He even offered his computer to do so when I said I wasn't sure I could do it from my phone. I found this super weird, and questioned it. He took it extremely personally, saying it was if I "went to a food and said all the food sucked and then kept eating", and that it was like saying I told him he sucked. I explained that nothing here was disparaging, and that I simply shared my experience. He refuted this and repeatedly said I was being illogical and unreasonable. I also said if my experience improved, I would amend my review to reflect that. He said that was "intimidating him". I said I can get steroid injections and scar tape from my dermatologist, and walked out. It also seems that after posting this review, the same day he had his staff leave several positive reviews on Google. read more

I went to Dr. Lao for a rhinoplasty and chin implant last May 2023. It was a significant investment and I was ready to contribute my savings to the work. I was also excited to find a Taiwanese surgeon who specialized in Asian features since I am Asian and my goal was to make a very natural and subtle change. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the results of the rhinoplasty - my tip was doubly projected beyond the ideal morph I had and the bridge protruded from the bottom of my forehead, both significant attributes that were aggressive modifications and not discussed. Not to mention the emotions that come with this type of experience. Even during a consult for revision, I had to prompt his staff to please take an imaging morph and it was done incorrectly. The rhino was significantly overdone. Despite the result not being 100%, my biggest concern was how Dr. Lao responded to my feedback. He continuously told me that he felt the nose looked good and sometimes diverted attention to my chin instead. He also described the way he crafted the nose was more "feminine" and that I even looked mixed race now and how "this is what people want" - well, not me.. None of these were my goals or discussed. In fact I was keen on ensuring the results were subtle - I spent months hiding the results and procedure at work/with friends. Dr. Lao was dismissive of my feedback, lacked empathy and seemed to have trouble addressing any differing aesthetic goals than his own. When I went to discuss revision, I ultimately decided that this was not the type of surgeon I could trust for a fix. I am in the services industry myself and do not take reviews like this lightly, but I do believe the way a professional responds to a patient's concerns sheds light on the quality of the experience. Now, over a year+ later, I have undergone a revision rhino with a different facial plastics surgeon and I'm able to see how this revision experience was completely different in a positive way. My upper lip that was previously pushed down from Dr. Lao's overextended columella that was creating tension in my smile. Thankfully with my revision with a different surgeon, it's now returned to its natural more fuller shape. I unfortunately do not recommend Dr. Lao if you have specific aesthetic goals or to you must be sure to micromanage the plan and situation with visuals at every step of the way. 2 stars only because the alar nose reduction was done acceptably and the chin implant though a bit large and masculine for my face, I can live with it. Im 4 months post opt and it has taken me this long to get to this review bc i'm so devasted, and embarrassed and writing this is just re-trauma of the whole thing but i have to speak out, I'm filled with resentment and anger and sadness, its terrifying. $13000 later, it was supposed to be worth it, I was going to be happier, more confident, it's been the complete opposite, I am more insecure now, I can't even focus on anything in my life right now bc i'm so overwhelmed still by how i look now, the worst experience of my life. This is the last thing i ever wanted with all the money i spent. It just wasn't on my radar that my eyes could look worse afterwards, I'm devastated and completely traumatized and the Doctor does not care. They keep cancelling my post op meeting every time the day of via email and pushing me back a whole month every time, so rude. I felt rushed into the procedure bc when you get your consultation immediately afterwards they emailed me an offer that expires in a few hours bc of my time difference, stating that if I put $2000 down right now, not refundable, they will take 10% off the total, and the email is super unclear and makes it sound like i could have used care credit for the rest which i found out later i could not. I wanted to save money so I did it, but i was not able to take my time, consult with other doctors and think it through, it definitely rushed me into doing the procedure without adequate research of my options. I had upper and lower bleph surgery done, upper to address a weak fold from a previous surgery and lower to remove inner corner under eye wrinkles. I had a small barely noticeable undereye puffiness before underneath my left eye and now post opt it is a huge very noticeable bulging eye bag that I am now extremely insecure about. Dr. Laos assistant emailed me post op with a completely false statement saying that they recommended taking the fat out but i declined, a complete and utter lie, that is malpractice! He "should have" recommended that, I brought it up as a concern but he did not address it .The surgery itself created more fine lines and wrinkles under my eyes, literally, my under eyes looks so much worse. I have darker skin tone, fitzpatrick 4, I am not an ideal candidate for this type of invasive cutting of my face, it healed horribly, scaly, bubbly under my eyes and the surgery itself literally created new wrinkles i never had. I was so ignorant to not ask enough questions, i just trusted him. The surgery itself is extremely invasive, he said we are just cutting a little skin off....its the most invasive thing ever done to me, my lower eyelids were completely cut open and stitched together i looked like frankenstein for months i had no idea the post opt was going to be so brutal and take so long to heal, it was a total nightmare unfolding as i started to see the final results. He couldn't get me numb, the numbing injections were so painful and they didn't work, i felt everything, it was so horrible. I had such high hopes for this, i left my work, my home, my family to travel across the world, stayed in a hotel for 10 days by myself, i had never been to nyc i was terrified but i did it all to have this as my result, what a nightmare! Everyday i wish it never happened and i could wake up and it was just a dream. Even the one eye he did for my upper bleph does not look good, he just put 3 temporary stitches in, and the inner fold is not deep at all and looks like my skin is a saggy and loose, like a bed sheet that is not tucked in tight. When i tried to to talk to him and explain my concerns with the results he just acts like he has no idea what i'm talking about. They do not care, he is not accountable, his team emailed me back saying "You're results are great, the surgery was a success". I got my double eyelid surgery done with Dr. Lao two years ago now, and was debating between many surgeons. I ended up going with Dr. Lao because I only saw that he had good reviews online but I have a feeling that he and his team have been deleting the bad ones. Keep in mind I started out with monolids on both eyes. I feel like my eyes have definitely settled at this point and unfortunately, I feel that the results are not only a little botched, they're also not what I wanted to look like. If we are to look at the result of his work, the creases that he made on my eyes are uneven. On my left eye, the crease stops halfway on my eye. The crease also doesn't connect to my inner corner. When I smile, I also get sausage lids because there was too much fat to begin with on my eyelids and even though he told me non incisional and incisional would yield the same results, they clearly don't. Although revision is "free", you still need to pay the anesthesia fees which I didn't want to do since I had already been charged $5k. In my mind, I wish I had gone to a different surgeon because revisions elsewhere cost more when you come in slightly botched. read more

But Dr lao is so good at it and make the miracle happen within that few centimeters adjustment. He is also very patient and listen to you. I had both Botox and juvederm done by Dr. Lao. The results are very natural but at the same time very effective. I didn't even have any bruises- this shows how skillful he is with injections. He is very considerate and cares a lot about his patients, he always checked with me after my injections to see how I was doing. Let me start off my review by saying that going to Dr. Lao for an Asian male rhinoplasty revision is the best life-changing cosmetic decision I have ever made! Dr. Lao proved to me what a double certified plastic surgeon is capable of. Not only did he revised my botched nose along with all the other issues that came with my botched nose, but his bedside manner was impeccable and something that is unheard of in NYC! I will break down every bit of my rhinoplasty journey with all of you who are out there still looking for a plastic surgeon to enhance your appearance. My previous rhinoplasty experience was a disaster. The complete OPPOSITE of Dr. Lao. I have always wanted a subtle rhinoplasty. However, NYC is limited to Asian rhinoplasty surgeons. Prior to going to Dr. Lao, I had decided to go to this so-called "best rhinoplastic surgeon in the city." However, that was not the case. It turned out to be the worst, traumatizing, emotionally draining experience of my life. This Dr. and his so-called staff lured me into believing that he would have done what was best for me. After he tricked me into taking my money, he seemed very impatient and very brief and casual in the way he handled my concerns. I asked for a specific aesthetic just to be left with a nose that I completely did not want, functionally, and aesthetically. Dr. Lao gave me what I wanted and more! During my first consultation with Dr. Lao, he was very charismatic, honest, and genuine. Immediately, he recognized the problems from my first rhinoplasty(my tip was so high up, pointy, and crooked, also I felt stiff above my lips) I COULDN'T EVEN MOVE MY UPPER LIP. I HAD TO LIVE LIKE THAT FOR 6 MONTHS. I WAS TORMENTED AND DEPRESSED. Instead of making everyone's noses looking all the same. He made sure that he only addresses the issues that I was concerned with the aesthetic I wanted. We had 4 back and forth consultations discussing angles, materials, and aesthetics. He was not impatient or annoyed. He made me feel very comfortable and walked me through what exactly was going to happen during the revision procedure. He recommended I should proceed with the ear cartilage/fascia grafting technique to prevent stiffness and asymmetry from happening. He even explained how the previous surgeon messed up the foundation of my nose. After 4 consultation sessions, I was convinced of how knowledgeable Dr. Lao is about rhinoplasty and human anatomy. Also, his fee is very reasonable compared to other overrated plastic surgeons who would charge a fortune. I actually ended up paying my previous doctor more for the first-timer rhinoplasty than Dr. Lao for a revision. I literally would have paid the first doctor NOT to touch my face!!!!! His coordinator Nancy and staffs are professional, friendly, and detailed-oriented. They made sure that my time was valuable and provided me with various payment options. Not only are they on time for my surgery date, but they also did a terrific job of scheduling all of my appointments. My revision surgery went completely perfect, if not better. Even the anesthesiologist was friendly and assured me I was going to be comfortable with the entire procedure. Immediately, after surgery, I was so surprised that I was neither swollen nor painful. Today marked the first week since my surgery date and I just went removed my stitches at his office and everything looked natural, neat, and perfect. Literally, I felt like I had zero downtime without any severe bruising or complications. EVERYTHING CHECKED Off MY LIST. I can already see the tip of my nose becoming much more natural-looking, at-ease, and defined. My nostrils are no longer showing and hanging. Also, the unknown material hidden underneath my upper lip area has been reshaped and repositioned which eliminated that harsh sensation that has been restricting me from making facial expressions. Most importantly, Dr. Lao had a way of dealing with scaring. He fixed my old scarring with steroid shots and made the new incision delicate and well-hidden. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Traumatic experience. I went for fillers. Dr injected under my eye. I have been in n pain swollen and bruised for months. I have a large protruding vein that throbs. When I went for follow up he said all he could do was inject steroid to reduce swelling But that it would cause a hollow effect.
