This Indy park spans 85 acres and dates back to 1963. It was formerly known as Northeastway, as has a lot of amenities to offer. The park has a golf course across the street but I did not go visit over there. It does look like a nice course and the have a driving range and a small club house there. The park has a decent amount of parking available. I would caution you though, when walking on the green space, be carful. The grounds gets very soggy after some precipitation. I almost lost my shoe in the mud a couple of times. The park itself has a vast amount of green space that could be used for activities such as soccer, football, a picnic, flying a kite, or playing catch. You will find a 18 hole disc golf course near the front of the park. it appeared to be a good course. There were a ton of people playing on it while I was there. In the vicinity of the disc golf course, next to a pavilion is a horse shoe pit. The pit has seen better days, but will do to satisfy your horse shoe itch. The park also has three shelters and a large pavilion available to rent. They all have picnic tables under them and grills just outside of them. The shelters are in mediocre shape and could use some renovating. The pavilion is near the tennis and volleyball courts and is decent. The park's full basketball court was nice though. It almost had me lace up and make it rain. Next to the basketball court is two nice sand volleyball courts that are fenced in and 2 sets of 2 tennis courts, for a total of 4.The tennis courts are in pretty good shape and are both fenced in too, with a low fence being in the center. The park has a playground, but it has old and limited equipment. It is on a bed of wood chips and its equipment consists of a large ADA accessible jungle gym with monkey rings, slides, and a bridge, a bank of toddler swings, a bank of traditional swings, and a ADA swing. My little guy was not feeling it. The park has a nice looking water park attached to it. There is a lot to do in the park from what I see. However, it was closed for the season during my visit so I could only view the empty pools from a far. This park has a lot of potential, but the amenities need to be updated and the grounds need to be a bit better maintained. There was trash all over the place at shelter #3 near the back of the park. Super nice day out for being the beginning of February so I hit up the disc golf course with some friends. 18 hole course, mostly in the woods. There's a practice tee. There are 2 tee boxes per hole and the holes have an A and B location that changes. Not sure how often the pins are moved. Nice course! Shot terribly though. I plan to make this part of my regular rotation of courses. Wear boots this time of year, it's pretty muddy in the woods! read more

To be fair, it's pretty obvious that William S. Sahm Park, an 85+ acre park formerly known as Northeastway Park on Indy's Northeast side (I suppose that was obvious, eh?), is primarily a Summer park. Visiting the park, as I did, on the tail end of February on a chilly and very windy Indianapolis day wasn't exactly giving the large, multi-feature park a real opportunity to shine. Sahm Park really isn't a true "neighborhood" park. It's sort of set back from multiple neighborhoods, though the backside of the park does sit directly next to an adjacent apartment building. As has been noted in multiple reviews, the main feature of the park that first opened in 1963, other than the adjacent Sahm Golf Course, is the aquatic center that typically opens over Memorial Day weekend and attracts decent crowds throughout the summer. The old pool was demolished in 1998, the aquatic center opened in 1999 and the slides were added in 2010 along with new spray features. You can see the slides from the nearby East 91st Street. The aquatic center has 50-yard and 25 meter lap lanes along with a zero-depth entry. There's also a children's play area, concession stand and other features. Looking from the street, you don't quite realize just how big Sahm Park really is. It's sort of sectioned off with a basketball area, a soccer area, a sand volleyball area, a tennis court, a 9-hole disc golf course and three shelters with one pavilion that does have restroom facilities. While certain features have a solid accompanying sidewalk, there's no trail system in the park and for the most part I wouldn't really consider the park to be wheelchair friendly. While they do have some accessible parking spots, they're poorly maintained and the signage is desperately in need of an upgrade. In fact, that's a good way to describe much of Sahm Park. While the aquatic center was upgraded nearly 20 years ago, the park on the whole looks incredibly worn, was literally littered with trash throughout, and you could easily see flooding in certain areas. It simply lacked the care you'd expect one of Indy's larger parks to receive. The basketball court looked about as dumpy as you could find in just about any city apartment complex, while the back of the park leads to a turn-around area that is in desperate need of cleaning. On this particularly quiet Sunday, only a couple cars could be found in the area and there wasn't a soul to be found utilizing any area of the park. Is it the worst park in Indy? Far from it. It's a decent park that could be so much better with a thorough cleaning and some fairly basic upgrades. You'd expect a park this size to be a destination park, but I can't imagine a good reason to go out of the way to experience the park unless you're in it for the aquatic center when it's open. Me? Sahms Park has a little bit of everything for the Northside. It encompasses a public golf course, swimming pool that has slides and lap pool, basketball courts, playground,extensive frisbee golf course as well as a huge field for soccer or flag football or feild hockey... There are several shelters for BBQ...one in the back of the park that allows for privacy. Overall Sahms Park is a great park for families, golfers and kids!! read more

From an adult's perspective, this park is OK. My adult eyes see all the things that could be fixed: the litter that needs to be picked up, the picnic tables that could be repaired, the grass that needs a good mowing. But my kid keeps asking to come back here, so I'm thinking I should write this review from a kid's perspective. The playground is fun and is just the right height to climb up and jump down without hurting yourself. There are three slides: a twisty slide, a tunnel slide and a double slide. There are also lots of swings, monkey bars and things to balance on. The ground is covered with wood chips -- no sand here, unfortunately. I'm sure that star of the park in the summer is the huge water park and swimming pool just off the playground. We visited during the off season, so it was closed, but it looked fun! Sahm's is a nice little park tucked away in the Castleton area. I live about a mile from here so this is a good point to go in, do some walking, play ball with the dog and walk back. The park has several areas for the public to use, including some playground equipment, a basketball court, a tennis area, and a large field for soccer or other field sports. There is also a public pool open during the summer, and a Frisbee golf area located near the main entrance. There is also a privately managed golf course attached to the property. The golf course will often have a snack bar open during the warmer months. What I like most about the park are the trees, which occupy a good chunk of the property. There are paved trails that run through it, and it is a nice break from the constant sound of cars running up and down nearby Allisonville and 86th street. Pro-tip: There are 2 entrances onto the trail from Castle Creek Parkway. For Pokemon Go players: There are two Pokestops (one at the main entrance off of 91st street, and one near the pool) and one Gym. This area is also a frequent nest or spawn area for a variety of Pokemon. So why four stars and not 5? Despite the several areas meant for extended use of the park, restrooms are only available when the pool is open. I understand it may be an additional cost, but it'd be nice for them to be open at least until it actually becomes cold rather than the short six week period when the pool is open. read more

The former Northeastway Park shares an entrance with the golf course/driving range on the east side of the road. The main feature of the park is the 20 year old aquatic center which has two sizes of swimming pools, a spray park, a large water slide, and a zero depth entry pool. Outside of the summer attraction, there are numerous shelters, tennis courts, basketball, sand volleyball, and a playground. Although there have been some reviews that refer to this park as "little", the park has over 85 acres which is enough for a disc golf course and some wooded hiking/running trails. Very large park with a large frisbee disc golf course by the entrance. Not many people were there when we went today. It was really cold and muddy, but the sun came out a few times. Might be more fun to go when it's a bit warmer out instead of going in the dead of winter. But I also heard that in the summer, there's also a lot of mosquitoes and poison ivy, so I guess that's not too fun, either. read more

This park is great. Close to the corner of 91st and Allisonville Rd, it is a little hidden gem. They have a golf course, pool with slide, playground, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts and a frisbee golf course. It's great for the outdoors person in you! This is not my usual park to take a walk or a stroll with my dog. I just happened to be closer to this park for the day. Although it has some amenities - pool (seasonal), basketball, tennis, soccer, etc, the facilities have a lot to be desired. Only part of the grass was mowed, so there are random areas of super tall grass. I went around 8:00 PM and there were gnats and mosquitos all over, especially around trash cans. There are giant piles of dog waste in many areas and if you are walking through the grass be careful - lots of holes that you could easily turn an ankle in. There also aren't many places at all to walk where you aren't almost being hit by the cars speeding down the street - no trails. The tennis courts looked to be the nicest area of the park. It's also not very relaxing - lots of cars blasting music and lingering in the parking lot. I was surprised because the surrounding area is pretty nice and well kept. We play tennis here a lot and really love the courts! They are nicely maintained and very rarely crowded. The soccer fields, frisbee golf, and basketball courts are usually fairly busy and the playground seems to be a hit with kids. A couple times I've seen a food truck parked near the basketball courts. I have ran the trails several times and though they are short, the woods provides some nice shade, which is great on a hot day! There are typically quite a few people walking the trail. There are often branches down and sometimes larger trees but they seemed to moves with a week of falling. A lot of the picnic tables seem pretty worn, but that doesn't stop people from having large gatherings in the multiple pavilions available. I have not utilized the golf course nor have a been to the pool, however they seem to be pretty popular based off the consistent number of people I see there. read more

This isn't my favorite park in Indy, but it's a decent choice! You can golf, talk a walk, play frisbee golf, go swimming, have an outdoor party, and recycle at this park! The enormous recycling bin is definitely my favorite feature! read more
