I'm going to be as objective as possible with this review because I feel that locals are kind of divided on Williams Animal Clinic since the passing away of their namesake. I also feel like I can paint a fair picture because my family and I have been customers of WAC for over 30 years. First off - Let's be real. The quality of animal care in Scottsboro greatly varies and can be downright scary. Williams is a longstanding institution, hence why I assume they didn't bother to change the name when the new owners bought in. This is also where it gets kind of confusing for long time clients. Dr Williams' daughter (Amy) & the other staff from his time do not work here anymore. Instead, they opened Phillips Small Animal Clinic which is a few miles up the street, but has some of the most confusing hours I've ever seen, though the care is excellent, if they are open when you arrive. I'd recommend calling ahead. I digress... Every time I have went into WAC post-2012, I've seen a different vet. I don't exactly know the reason for this. The nurses seem to be more long term (or at least fewer in number) than the vets and are usually helpful and knowledgeable. They'll be the ones who weigh your dog, do basic procedural work, clipping of nails and shots (most of the time). The vets... Without sounding too negative, they don't really seem to do too much. I'm sure they do behind the scenes and I understand that you are busy, but please, when I bring my dog in, I want the vet to take a look, regardless of the reason. That's what I am paying you for. I don't want the vet to just come in and read the prescription label for whatever they are prescribing and vanish into a puff of smoke. For that kind of service, you'd think that your bill would reflect the same. Here's where most people run into trouble with the new owners... Dr Williams, rest his soul, never seemed to be in this for the money to me. To be fair, he had already made his money a long time before I was old enough to bring my own pet in. He was the guy who would run in, do a quick exam of your dog and have you on your way with medicine, and often something far more invaluable - advice. He'd take his time when he needed to but he had seen it all and could diagnose pretty much anything with a basic exam - which means that he didn't hit you with an obscene nearly $40 charge just to see his face. I'm sorry guys, but that's just too high for this area and for the service you provide. I know that new owners have to pay the bills, pay the staff, etc. They can't (or won't) be quite as altruistic as a well-established family vet. It's a business. I get that, I really do, I just want to feel like I am getting my money's worth and I often do not - because I was spoiled on the old pricing. Now, if you are still reading this, I'll give you some positives about WAC. To be fair, as much as I may complain about the price, (and I will, so seriously guys, do something about that $40 surcharge) the quality of care is still almost always top notch. Kudos. Another big pro is that they are now open until 6pm, M-F. This seriously comes in handy for a reason I'll touch on in a bit. The weekend hours are still open til noon on Saturday and the still-trapped-in-the-dark-ages "closed on Sunday" but that's to be expected. Small town. WAC is THE BEST all-around vet in town, based on availability, quality of care and quality of people. Though I will still say, you may find Phillips Small Animal Clinic to be just as worth your time, unless you are facing an emergency... And here's where things get bleak, and what takes my review from 4 stars, to 3. In 2008, my pet had an emergency on a Saturday evening and needed help right away. I called WAC, I was patched through to the "doctor on call" and met them 15 minutes later, where they performed surgery. He had to stay over night, and they met me Sunday morning to pick him up. I don't remember the cost, because it's not important. The point is, someone was there when I needed them. In 2015, my pet had a different emergency at roughly 6:30pm on a weekday. I called WAC, spoke to the "person on call" & was told that I'd need to take my pet to Huntsville to receive care. At this point, I was 25 minutes from Scottsboro, so roughly 90 minutes from Huntsville. I made the drive, was slapped with a $350 "just to see the vet" fee and was dealt some of the poorest treatment I've ever received. My pet survived (silver lining) but I have been sour about this ever since. Not sure if WAC gets kickbacks or what, but it's deplorable! Listen. If there's a single veterinarian in town who could spearhead a change from this nonsense for the Scottsboro area, it's WAC. I implore you to create your own 24 hour service, or at the very least give people the option to pay YOU to perform your services at odd hours. You'd establish yourself as the best around and you'd be doing a service not only to the community, but for the man who's name your signage bears. Consider it. read more

Great service! Both Dr. Lowrey and Dr. Crowell, as well as the entire staff, are very compassionate and professional. They quickly diagnosed my dog T-bone with bladder stones and had him in surgery the next morning. Love this place! read more

We have been bringing our dogs to Williams clinic for over six years. We started with dr Williams who was a very caring and kind man as well as the other vets. Things have changed but we are still very happy with the care we receive. We drive from Huntsville and had considered changing to a vet in Huntsville when the clinic changed owners. However in the last few weeks we had a very sick dog who we chose to said goodbye to today. Dr Crowell has been great, talking to us on the phone, fitting us in his schedule and ultimately helping us say our final goodbyes today. The staff has also been so kind and patient with us especially Kathy who always takes the time to listen to me and has been so kind and caring through this tough time. I would highly recommend this clinic and we will continue to make the trip over for them to care for the dog we have now and future pets! read more

Really disgusted by how much Williams' Animal Clinic has gone downhill since Dr. Williams died. They care more about money than the well-being of your animals. My cats have been on specialized food for years to deal with their kidney problems. I was recently told I would not be able to buy their food anymore until I brought them in, I tried to explain that they were old and easily upset and get so stressed out when I HAVE to take them to the vet that they stay sick FOR DAYS. I explained that I was told years ago by Dr. Williams and then by the female doctor that worked there that they would have to be on this food the rest of their lives. I asked for an exception to avoid unnecessary stress, and was basically told to bring them in or let them starve. The words they used were kinder, but the sentiment was the same. They are truly terrible, money grubbing people. If you have another choice of a vet -- any other choice -- take them. These people care nothing about your pets' well being. They only care a out how much money they can get out of them. read more
