I game in again a few weeks later, at 10:00 and the cases were sparse ... no spice bars again. Williams Bakery needs to spring i to action in this Highland Springs location! My sweet tooth is turning sour!

I've always been a huge fan of Williams Bakery, & this location in particular! They did my wedding cakes, they've done numerous birthday cakes for us, and provided so many wonderful goodies over the decades! I stopped in the other day & was enchanted with their decorations! Spent some time chatting with Marcia, she's just so wonderful! I picked up some danishes, spice bars (and absolute must), cheese straws, & my once in a blue moon treat - a Texas sized éclair! I highly recommend this bakery for their products, the service, and I also want to recognize what a sweet part of our ccommunity they are! (I added the nail polish bottle for scale on my éclair, you can see that it's huge!!)

There are several locations of Williams Bakery around the city, but since I live on the east side of town, I go to this one in Highland Springs.

Free off street parking is plentiful. There is good signage. It's now a take out only establishment since Covid. Two table are available for outdoor seating. Most customers took their orders and walked away. I visited them on a Sunday afternoon just after St. John's let out. It's just one block away and the church Patrick Henry gave a speech. There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.

You can't miss it. Step inside and the corner location pays off -- gorgeous afternoon light pouring through a row of vintage stained glass set above the front windows, throwing color all over the pink-and-white interior. Chandelier with little fabric shades, topiary along the ledge, counter seating to watch the street. Charming spot. One small heads-up: the menu is a digital screen, and it wasn't working when I visited -- so you're ordering a bit blind, leaning on the bakery case and whatever the staff can tell you. Not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing going in. And you're really here for the baked goods, which hold up. The kouign-amann was the standout -- deeply caramelized, lacquered, shatteringly flaky with that signature sugar crust. I also grabbed two macarons (a berry-pink one and a teal with chocolate filling) that were exactly right: crisp shell, chewy center, generous filling. No complaints. The case is stocked with range -- lemon bars, quiche, chocolate cherry walnut cookies, confetti sandwich cookies, Florentines, a vegan peanut butter option, pineapple upside-down, and more. Plenty of GF and vegan labeling, which is nice to see. You can watch them pulling fresh trays from the proofer behind the counter. A few other notes: it's a small operation, so selection depends on what's come out of the oven that day, and the working area behind the counter is tight and a little cluttered (charming, but not polished). Corner parking is street-only and that intersection gets busy. Bottom line -- a genuinely good Richmond bakery with real pastry chops and a beautiful corner space. Get the kouign-amann before they sell out.

I stand by this: Honey Baked Bee is hands-down the best bakery and coffee shop in Richmond…read more I've made it my mission to try just about every coffee shop in the RVA area--and I'm not exaggerating when I say I've visited nearly all of them. This one is my favorite by far. The coffee is consistently incredible, the breakfast pastries are amazing, and the baked sweets are some of the best you'll find anywhere. If you go, do yourself a favor and order the banana bread latte. It's easily my favorite drink in Richmond. One of the things that makes this place so special is the owner, Shannon. She bakes her own fresh bread, creates all kinds of delicious treats, and even makes homemade goodies for your dogs, which is such a thoughtful touch. And don't leave without asking Shannon about the history of the building and its ghost stories. Whether you're a skeptic or a believer, it's a fun story that adds even more charm to an already wonderful little spot.

I wanted to read at the park, but wanted something to munch on! They were going to be closing in 20 minutes when I got there! There was the one barista at the counter. She didn't seem too friendly, but that may have been because she was getting ready to close the cafe and was just tired. I ordered a large strawberry refresher, a macaron, a cupcake and a breakfast poptarte ! I loved everything flavor wise! The refresher was tasty, it was a just a bit too sweet for me, but good regardless. The macaron was good, the cupcake wasn't too sweet and the breakfast pastry was perfectly flavorful. Overall, I had a good experience. I would love to spend some time in the cafe when they're open because they give off a cozy vibe! The short time I spent in there while waiting for my order, I noticed a lot of art is displayed. I'm assuming they sell work from local artists and artisans. I would definitely recommend stopping by and tasting something from their menu!
