Awesome spot! Highly recommend the chicken salad, focaccia bread (only available select days of the week), cookies, and I'm sure anything else is just as good.

    Inside

Two words: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I love Montana Gold Bread Co. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to visit this bakery. Their baked goods are so fresh and tasty. They use high quality ingredients here and everything is baked with love. It's a small shop, but there is a ample seating if you want to devour your treats or eat lunch. If you're lost on what bread to get, I highly recommend getting the Blue Ridge Mountain herb loaf. I could eat so much of this perfectly herbed wheat bread by itself. It makes any sandwich you want 10x better. If you want a sweet treat, their sugar chocolate chip cookie pack is the move. Crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside with a generous amount of chocolate chips. These cookies are divine. The cheddar garlic bread is amazing too with chunks of cheese inside. I also love how rich the pumpkin bread is. The loaf I love is about $7 and the cookie pack is about $6.50. It's so worth it and the bread can last a bit, plus the cookies are huge. They have a public restroom too. Besides the incredible goodies I got, my favorite part of my experience here was the baker who helped me. They answered all my questions about their products and told me they loved talking about bread. Don't wait as long as I did to check out this local gem. It's SOO GOOD. I'm excited to come back and try their sandwiches.

Happy to know this place exists for all my bakery needs. You might've seen their products at other places (I know their cookies are at Union Market). But it's awesome to visit this place to see the extensive menu of baked goods they have- from breads to cookies to buns. You can also get lunch here. You can get a sandwich on any of the breads they have in store. They have a good selection of meats, cheeses and veggies to build your own. My favorite breads are the herb bread and the Ukrainian black bread for sure! Also enjoyed the zucchini and pumpkin bread too!

Made french toast wi their cinnamon swirl bread

This place is great! Everything I tried was delicious and made with quality, organic ingredients without preservatives. Their cinnamon swirl bread made BOMB French toast. For six 3/4" slices, I used a batter of 1 whole egg + 1 yolk, 1 c. whole milk, a pinch of salt and a pinch of cardamom. Whisk until fluffy, dip 5 sec per side. Cook in buttered skillet.

    A great assortment

Everything is fresh and delicious and the staff is super friendly. A boxed lunch is very reasonable and the sandwiches are made with high-quality ingredients. The bakery has a great selections of breads, spreads, and desserts. Highly recommend, don't miss this Richmond gem!

Chicken salad sandwich with challah bread

Wow, just wow. I've passed by this bakery plenty of times but it wasn't until I got a Groupon that I decided to take the plunge and try Montana Gold Bread Co, and boy am I glad I did. They offer a large variety of breads, pastries, cookies, etc. so it was a bit overwhelming as a first-timer but Jerry was so sweet and patient. He even offered us (very generous, mind you) samples of the challah bread and pound cake which were absolutely delicious. Consider us instantly converted. I am now a proud member of the Baker's Dozen Bread Club, which offers a free loaf of bread for every 12 loaves you buy. SANDWICHES - My boyfriend and I came here for lunch and got the ham and chicken salad sandwiches respectively. You can customize your sandwich with the bread, veggies, and cheese of your choice. We both got our sandwiches with the challah bread and wow. That bread was PHENOMENAL. It was the lightest and fluffiest bread I have ever had, like eating a soft, buttery cloud. All the ingredients were so fresh and delicious. Needless to say, that was an amazing sandwich. Came here for a quick bite to eat and walked out with 3 loaves of bread and 2 cookies the size of my face. Today was a great day.

Roast beef sandwich with all the veggies on challah bread

I am so glad I found this place! I always pass by this place and never really took notice of it until the Groupon deal came up. Now that I've discovered them, I'm addicted! It's surprising how few reviews they have gotten on Yelp and I really hope more people will give this place a try. Upon entering, you are surrounded by all of their products and can see the huge kitchen with their employees making their fresh products in the back. They also have their huge cookies spread out on the counter which were really tempting. They have a large cutting board in the front with several products that you can sample. The pumpkin and blueberry pineapple loaves were absolutely delicious and those were enough to get me hooked on this place. The staff was really friendly and offered my boyfriend a second slice of the pumpkin bread after they saw how much he loved it! I also tried their roast beef sandwich with onions, lettuce, tomato, red bell peppers, and cucumbers on challah bread which was $5.49. The sandwich was a very generous size [pic uploaded] and satisfied even my boyfriend's ravenous appetite. The roast beef is the real deal, thickly sliced with a peppery crust, and the veggies were very fresh and crisp. For those who never had challah bread before, I would describe it as the best "white" bread ever. They give super thick slices of the bread and it is so dense but fluffy at the same time. It was great for all the fillings of the sandwich. I usually only like crispy, toasted sandwiches but this place really made me rethink things. The sandwich selection was pretty limited but I believe that this is to ensure that they put out the highest quality products possible. I wish they would also offer more bread options for their sandwiches. Currently, you can choose from honey wheat, hearty white, and challah. There is only a little patio out front so this is basically just a "to-go" place. Besides these, this place is a must-try! Overall, they offered simple, delicious food and I really applaud them for it. Therefore, don't pass this place up and come in to try some of their breads. You'll probably end up walking out with several loaves! Food: 5 Value: 5 Service: 5

    Bread bread and more bread

I found Montana Gold Bread when I was looking for a local merchant to serve breakfast for my job's grand opening celebration. They had amazing reviews and pictures online so I was sold. We booked Montana Gold for the event and they surpassed our expectations. Every customer that tasted their delicious, homemade breads and pastries was salivating while they chewed. My personal favorite was their banana bread and their M&M cookies. My colleagues were so enamored with these yeast yummies that we decided to order breakfast for the team for Watermelon Festival. Soon as you turn on Cary St. you can smell spectacular waves of goodness in the air. It is Montana Gold Bread Co. There fresh bread permeates the atmosphere. When I went to pick up the breakfast platters, I was in breadatopia. The land of pumpernickel, zucchini, challah, and banana bread I had entered. I could go on and on about all the different kinds of bread Montana has. Beautiful loaves of bread are everywhere you turn. You can smell the love and hard work that went into every kernel of these loaves is evident. Not only do they have bread, but also ginormous cookies in various flavors, muffins and spreads. These are just as good as the bread, If you are looking for amazing bread in RVA Montana Gold will have what you are looking for.

There were a lot of church goers enjoying the business. Proper has a menu in the window to guide customers on choices of savory, or sweet. I wanted one of each. The man at the window was great in providing recommendations. I ordered the steak and cheese as well as the Banoffee. The preparation is already done and the man with assistant moved quickly to complete my order. I enjoyed my treats at their outdoor table and also enjoyed conversation with locals. I started with the steak & cheese which was loaded with meat and cheese. DELICIOUS! Then onto the Banoffee which smelled heavenly of cocoa. Another home run! I love bananas and if you do too this will be enjoyable. So glad I found them open on my visit. There hours are very good, but I have missed them in the Summer before on vacation. Just go, no brainer.

We were greeted by pleasant staff at checkout and our orders placed in a parchment type bag for take out. They also have seating inside. The pastries were just sweet enough without being overly sweet, which I like. The pistachio cream was a perfect compliment to the pecan encrusted pastry. The almond twist was both flaky and crunchy with the sliced almonds on top, and the strawberry shortcake had layers of real strawberries, whipped topping and yellow cake that was moist.
