I live a couple hours away, but I have a friend who lives nearby and I found this place on maps. My friends coming up this weekend so I checked out their website saw they had the yeast I want and asked them to swing by grab it for me. My friend shows up and was told you have to order online for will call, but there is literally no mention of that anywhere on their website. It does state that orders placed before 4 would ship same day, but If I placed an order for will call it takes a day? I'd recommend adding that somewhere. Oh man, this is a great company locally in CA/Bay Area, but beyond that the delivery is just horrible :( We've been waiting for an order and sitting within view of the front door. The delivery company - GSO (by the way google how terrible these folks are) - has stated they've tried to deliver. No one has seen a truck and this is a small town where lots of people are out and about and look for deliveries. Williams hasn't responded to the order which is now 5 days late and has yeast, hops, etc. Sorry, I'd recommend any other company that uses a reputable shipper. Not Williams :( read more

Top notch customer service, and top notch brewing supplies... need I say more?

We were in a bind as we didn't have a German Slider coupler for our Oktoberfest keg. We were hosting a big office bash and needed it to work in our kegerator and many places locally didn't have the coupler. I stumbled upon William's Brewing through Google and Yelp searches, called them up, and they said they had them in stock and would be available through Will Call same day. The person on the phone was helpful as well as the person I picked it up from Will Call. I'll definitely be ordering more from them. read more

First off, I should warn Yelpers that this is NOT a retail store, so don't come to William's hoping to do some browsing! We did (yep, we didn't investigate properly beforehand), and found a warehouse with no posted hours of operation. What we did find was a box with catalogs that contained a note explaining how William's works. They offer a huge amount of brewing supplies, all of which can be shipped to you. Prices are reasonable, and the staff were very helpful when we spoke to them over the phone. I'm glad to have found yet another Bay Area brewing supplier! read more

William's has great prices and a really good selection of products. Their catalog has good info, and their service is prompt. My only problem is that they do not provide the recipe with their kits, so you get a bag of hops, spices and extracts but you have no way of knowing what type they are. If you want to make changes its really hard to know if they will work if you are shooting in the dark. They don't really let you know this until you order of if you go to the FAQ on their site. read more

I have been buying both gear and ingredients from William's Brewing since I started brewing in 1999 - the "home brewery" kit I bought from them is now 16 years old and going strong. I have brewed more than 60 batches in the ensuing years and it all is still good. Over time, I have upgraded my gear and in 2013 purchased a Brewer's Edge brew pot, which has been an outstanding addition to my brewery gear - recently I noticed metal cracking in the handles, so I emailed them - the email I got back shows why I stay with them and still buy all my gear there - they immediately shipped a replacement out - and it's an improved and updated design! Bottom line? These are good folks - they got me going in brewing, I've recommended them to friend after friend for their brewing, and well ... no regrets. They are the best. I highly recommend them! I've made a few purchases from Williams Brewing and have had more pleasant experiences than negative. I'll start with the good items. 1. Fresh LME 2. Great quality on their ingredients 3. Fast Turn around 4. Short Ship Time The Bad: 1. Only sell grain by the pound, so if you need a fractional amount like half a pound you cannot purchase it that way. 2.Limited yeast supply. Overall they are good, I have found that their choice of shipper leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I started my homebrewing hobby with a kit from William's Brewing back in 2001. A friend of mine recommended them and I think their starter kits and homebreweries are one of the best ways to start homebrewing. The kits come with all ingredients and clear instructions for newbies. I now have a homebrew store near my home but I still order a couple of my favorite extract kits (I've moved on to small all grain batches but still sometimes make extract beers when I want to make larger volumes). I needed some yeast for a recent batch and decided to check out the limited strains available by searching online. I wanted to try Denny's favorite which is a Wyeast product and found it at William's. I noticed they had some hops on closeout too which seemed reasonable for Noble variety. I placed my order very easily and was able to navigate their site without any problems. I did not realize I had ordered from a place in California until later, but was pleased when the box showed up the day before brewday. The selection of merchandise is good- they have some equipment I have not seen elsewhere which is why I rated them so highly. I just got a Gen3 Robobrew for my fiancé for his birthday. He absolutely loved it and put it together IMMEDIATELY. It was packaged well, everything included was there, and there was no damage to anything inside. In addition that, I also ordered him a brew kit (a set of ingredients for a 5 gallon batch of beer) so he can try it out. I didn't remember to buy the yeast for it, which is the only thing the kit doesn't come with, but William's Brewing is amazing and put it in for us with a note saying we would need it for the brewing process. I know it was only a few dollars, but it was so kind of them to do that free of charge. It saved me a trip to my local brew store for yeast. Also, the gift note I requested to be put in the box when was handwritten, which is just another little something nice they did that shows the company will go the extra mile and add a special touch to a gift that was ordered online. Even though this is an online order based company, the owner walked me through their inventory and got me set up with everything I needed. I've been searching for sometime for low pressure burners to run on natural gas. These guys were by far the cheapest as well as offered the extra parts needed to convert the burners from LP to Nat. Upon receiving the burners(I ordered 2) I noticed one of the burners was damaged during shipping I know this because the broken part was in the box. I should also add the shipment arrived a lot faster than expected.... Nice! I called the support line and they shipped me a new burner out the same day!!! I was expecting to have to return it and wait for them to get it, then ship the new one, which honestly I would have been OK with. These guys blew my expectations out of the water if you want great service, great products and great brew I highly suggest giving them a shot. I will second Kyle K and express my frustration. This is an old complaint from me and I can't say I've shopped with Williams in many years. But they lost my business when they refused to tell me what the hops were in a kit. They are just marked by addition and you have no idea what they are. When I called them, they said it was "proprietary". C'mon Williams, even Vinny from Russian River will tell you exactly whats in Pliny the Elder. And I get it, I know why you do it, but honestly its not the 90s anymore. What you are doing is completely alienating yourself from the advanced brewer. If you want to be known as the ingredient kit provider to the beginner brewer, fine. But you are not desired among the advanced brewers and you are shooting yourself in the foot if you are turning your back on the advanced brewer. read more

I recently purchased a stir plate from William's Brewing which was rated for up to a 5 litre starter. It worked fine for one use, with my 250 ml flask, but when I stepped that up to a 3 litre volume in a 5 litre flask, it made a terrible (and annoying) grinding noise throughout. On the third use, with a mere 2 litre load, it failed within an hour. I was a bit annoyed, but I could manage my brew day with a few extra packets of US-05. Not my choice of yeast, but that's life. I contacted William's about arranging for a refund, and left a review on their site as they solicit after each order. I've never had cause to doubt William's before. They've always sent out my orders surprisingly quickly and efficiently, but then I've never had to resolve a problem with them either. My review, which was polite and simply the facts - effectively the first paragraph of this post - was immediately deleted. They initially offered a refund, including my shipping costs, but inexplicably retracted that offer when I offered them several quotes for that cost (with, and without tracking). They then directed me to resolve the matter with the manufacturer. I opted to take the issue to PayPal, and disputed the charge. Suddenly the tone changed. William's representative apologized for the trouble, and reinstated the offer of a refund, but only if I would cancel the claim with PayPal. I was quite willing to do that, but PayPal's policy will only allow me to cancel if I state that I have received a refund, and a claim cannot be re-opened once closed. I responded to William's with this information, in case they were unaware. I asked them to follow PayPal's policy and issue the refund, and gave them my word I would do likewise and cancel the claim. They did not respond at all. Today PayPal found in my favour, and directed me to ship the stir plate back to them at my cost. This is irritating, but I'd really just like the matter closed. I reached out to William's, asking if they intended to follow through on their promise of a refund, and the refused. The only conclusion I can draw is that they had no intention of actually refunding me had I closed the claim. TL;DR: William's Brewing will not stand behind their products, deletes negative reviews, and will attempt to cheat if you escalate to a higher authority. Even their sticker left a mess behind [1] when I removed it from the kegerator I built with hundreds of dollars spent with William's. read more

So I am a big fan of the beer...i love to drink it, i love to drink it, and uhhhh...i love to drink it...yea...i also love to cook, and I realized a few months ago that maybe brewing beer at home is like cooking?...sooooo, i did the stupid thing a bought one of those Mr. Beer kits from bevmo...after brewing it, and then tasting my fruits...not those fruits, you dirty dirty man... i almost barffed... yea, sucked...so i was dismayed, and i took a long walk on that interweb ive heard so much about and I came across a store called William's Brewing Co....so yea the site was a little hard to navigate, but after a few return visits and a little reading up on home brewing, i got my gusto back, and I ordered their home brewery with stout and a few other trinkets for brewing...not only was it easy to order, their shipping costs are crazy low...if you live within the western US shipping is only 6 bucks...no matter how heavy...freakin sweeeet...plus they ship your order the same day if you buy before 4:30pm...and get this, if you live in the bay area, your order gets to you the very next day...so if you order today at 4:30, it will be at your door by about 3pm the next day...everything i have ordered from them has been top quality, and their brews are awesome...plus i had to contact their support team and they responded immediately when i needed them...plus, here is the kicker...the beer is so sweeeeeeeet... read more
