All I can say about this place is YES. Am I a fellow fanboy? Yes. Do I think coffee paraphernalia needs to be this expensive? No. Do I recognize its right to exist? Oh absolutely. I own a couple of fellow products at home, so I was happy to come by and peruse the store for more things that I'd potentially want. The glassware is so awesome to use, and the tumblers, storage solutions, and brewers are so cool to look at as well. Sometimes, they have coffee on brew, using the Aiden. I've seen coffee from Hydrangea roasters, Dak, and other cool roasters on brew (for sample). It was so fun to try each one, and see how well the Aiden does for a filter coffee machine. If I didn't already have an espresso machine, I'd be considering this for sure. And of course, you can see all of their products up and down the coast in various coffee shops everywhere! Technical help is horrible. You tell them your issue and what you tried to fix the problem. They email you back telling you you try everything that you told them you already tried. They will NOT give you a phone number to call them. They know they will receive thousands of calls about their "ADD WATER" issue. ADD WATER when it is completely full already. The problem is not the design, the problem is I've had MANY clients tell me theirs leak, along with multiple ones I have kept for myself also leak. Great design but defective product. Went in today to do some gift shopping and decided to ask about a mug I bought last year that was a limited run for San Francisco at the coffee festival. It has never sealed properly (I think due to the threads being messed up when manufacturing). This is a rarity as I have a number of fellow mugs that I absolutely love. I asked one of the women working today if she knew if fellow would replace it. She could not have been ruder and kept saying I was just putting the gasket on wrong and finally said they wouldn't replace it. The other women working tried to step in and help the situation after but the damage was done. I've been a casual admirer of Fellow for years. My interest piqued with the announcement of the Aiden Coffee Maker. I followed the online status updates leading up to product release and read lots of reviews before plunking down bread this past November on the Aiden and the Ode Gen 2 grinder. During my online research, I came across a couple reviews that labeled Fellow "the Apple version" of coffee gear, and I do see parallels. Similar to Apple, Fellow pushes the boundaries in design and functionality, and is much more focused on user experience than most of their coffee gear competitors. And the SF Valencia Street store, with its stripped back walls, open counter displays and tons of natural light, IMO does give off Apple Store vibes. I've thoroughly enjoyed using my Aiden and Ode as part of my morning ritual over the past six months. However, a few weeks ago, my grinder started clicking/chirping and became more audible while grinding. After a bungled attempt on my part to clean and calibrate the grinder, I called the Valencia Street store. Stellar (what some call white glove) customer service is yet another similarity between Apple and Fellow. From my call with Jon, to my trip the next day to the Fellow store with my ailing Ode, nothing but a positive experience. Once I handed over my grinder, Tara went to work disassembling it, then cleaned and calibrated it in no time. And Jon provided a cup of Coco Bongo coffee while I waited. It was the first cup of coffee I've tasted with a coconut flavor profile and I gotta say, it's delicious! The level of service that Tara and Jon provide is exactly what inspires customer loyalty and it's also what's now made me a Fellow fanboy! read more

Shout out to the people who work here! I've been in a few times since I bought my Fellow Aiden coffee maker, and they have been exceptionally customer service oriented in helping me every time I've been in. I first got one of their canisters for taking coffee to go with me, and they hooked me up with some filters and told me I didn't need to worry about trying to buy from them. This was about 10 minutes before they closed, but they weren't rushing me along. The second time I came I upgraded my grinder, which I talked to one of their employees about. He was really great in just telling me all the ins and outs of it, which was fantastic in helping me feel reassured about my purchase. They also made note that I should register it for a free extra year of warranty. Beyond that, they also had some sample of this amazing peach coffee they had brewed, which I bought since it was so damn tasty. I look forward to when they have the store picks there set for brew profiles on the Aiden!! All that said, I love my coffee set up now. I am easily making better coffee than I was drinking at some of the best coffee spots in the city. This is eventually going to save me money in 4-5 months, but the quality and enjoyment of getting to try new coffee is definitely increasing. As the Aiden app improves, I look forward to getting more and more options for brewing coffee. Perhaps even eventually having an ode grind setting suggestion for batch size added? read more

I was gifted a Pour Over brewing set last year which took me a long time to try make a good cup of coffee. It improved after a few months, however my coffee was still not quite as good as I could brew from a French Press. After doing a bit of reading on how to brew pour over coffee, plus learning a lot of useful information from James Hoffman's YouTube videos, I decided it was time to add a Gooseneck Kettle to my collection of coffee accoutrements. After browsing the various options I decided to go for the Fellow Stagg EKG electric gooseneck kettle. This was quite an investment since it is one of the more expensive gooseneck kettles on the market. I chose the regular Stagg EKG kettle, not the one with bluetooth capability. Bluetooth seemed like overkill to me. Does a water boiler need bluetooth? The Fellow Stagg EKG gooseneck kettle is beautiful and well made. It is sleek and modern. And it comes in a variety of finishes and trims. I bought the basic black one. It was very easy to figure out how to use. And it was a game changer in my pour over coffee. The gooseneck provides so much better control. My cup of coffee improved exponentially compared to my previous inadequate attempts (not using a gooseneck kettle). Making pour overs is now fun. Absolutely no regrets. The basic kettle has some nice features. You can toggle between Fahrenheit and Celcius. There is a dial to select the exact temperature you want your water heated to. And a "hold" toggle, for keeping the water at that set temperature for up to an hour. I am so impressed with the Stagg EKG kettle that I will save up for the Stagg [XF] Pour Over Set. Had been over zealous about supporting this company and bought 3 sets of products for friends and family as gifts and bought my own Carter mugs for myself monogrammed and all. I was so excited when I received it and proudly brought it to work and felt good about not wasting cups at cafes and keeping my coffee hot all morning! The honeymoon did not last long. Despite replacing the lid the Carter leaks big time and worse the interior is peeling off! I really liked the stylish look of this as well as how hot it kept my coffee. I even had many compliments on its design originally and proudly directed them where to buy Fellow Products. Their customer service is troubling and what should have been exchanged is now going unfortunately into landfill. Additionally they market a discount to teachers and students but don't honor it. Fellow is a great place for coffee gadgets : drip, storage, grind and more. It's also a place to learn more about coffee and see the staff demo their deep knowledge about coffee. Did you know a lot of kettles, storage and drip from Blue Bottle Coffee are actually Fellow coffee colab. I recommend the simple stove top kettle with a thermal meter on the lid, at the center. It's surprising how useful this temperature sensor is. Getting the water to the right temperature improves the efficiency and taste of the pour over significantly. read more

I have a colleague in Singapore who is obsessed with Blue Bottle. He goes to the one in New York and also the one in Tokyo (I stalk him on Instagram, that's how I know). Just can't get enough of it. I was in Singapore recently and I told him that that Blue Bottle was very circa 2011. I was lining up drinking that stuff when it was served in an ally in the Financial District. I wish that I could take him here instead. Because this is very 2018. I liked the idea of coffee sampling. There were five in the tasting menu today. Starts with the light roast, and then medium, then finally full body roast to decaf. What I found interesting was the way of tasting. You scoop up coffee with a spoon and then a spit cup and you line up for sampling. Very chic. I also enjoyed the coffee brewing equipment, all made in San Francisco and all very interesting. The electric kettle came with temperature gauge and that's quite cool. I did want to see how the kettle is being used, though no demo today. Valencia is very Williamsburg-eque, I do find the entire area is trying to be more Brooklyn then Manhattan, and I get that vibe as to why. Maybe I have Brooklyn on my mind because my next trip is in April. Very positively exciting to be here today. As I am wont to do, I am inspired to drop a review after experiencing elation about a place. I have actually reviewed this place once but for some reason Yelp isn't giving me the option to update my review, however it is an update. I've been a Fellow fan for a couple of years. I finally broke down and bought an Ode grinder in December which helped my pourover game but didn't make it stellar. I have spent months, years in fact, trying to figure out what I am doing wrong because my coffee has always tasted kind of mediocre despite ultra filtered water, weighing it precisely, and learned pourover techniques as seen on Youtube and Fellow's own amazing website. I have been using a Hario V60 kettle and carafe. Those are basically the most popular kettles on the market so I thought it couldn't possibly (and might not, alas) be the kettle, however I did notice the pour rate through the large hole at the bottom of the Hario cone is large so the coffee drips very fast. When Fellow recently released their lovely Stagg kettles in my favorite deep blue color I knew I finally had to try it. I went to the store on Sunday and the store is wonderful. Nothing has changed much since I was there in December for my Ode grinder but they have drop dead gorgeous mugs, kettles and swag for the aficionado. Hailie, who I have traded some friendly texts with about my various questions helped answer my many questions while holding down a busy store by herself and soon after I was walking out with a new Stagg kettle, stunning mug and the carafe pourover kit. Be warned: Fellow is not cheap, however as with most things you get what you pay for and this is no exception. The reason I am writing this review is because, for the first time since I started my home pourover routine in March of '20, I have a truly amazing cup of coffee. I simply cannot believe the difference. I am finally enjoying coffee every bit as good as all the high end overpriced pourover places I have frequented. The kettle is, as others have noted, just amazing. You simply fill it up and turn the dial and it does the rest. At this point, I am all in with Fellow and given the store is in SF I would say if you are serious about your coffee you should make the investment. If something goes wrong with anything you buy, I'd recommend just taking it back instead of dealing with their online customer service, which seems to be lacking from reviews I've read. I've learned there is a "best" in the coffee business too, even though the hundreds of products and expert reviews will likely leaving you baffled and confused also. I'll say this: Fellow is the best, especially for the mid to high end market. Save your pennies and make the investment. You'll be glad you did. read more

Fellow is the dapper, attractive but premium-priced love child of third wave coffee and aesthetics, home of the gorgeous Stagg kettles, feel-good-in-your-hand-look-good-on-display mugs, clean pour over apparatus, fresh beans, among other things. I have visited Fellow twice, once on a weeknight evening and once on a weekend afternoon. On my first visit, the gentleman working there was the only one in the shop but offered to walk through a pour over with my friends and me. After inquiring about the beans and purchasing a bag, the employee gave me a sample of other beans which they did not yet have on sale. On the second, a young woman answered my friends' questions about the Aeropress Prismo and other coffee news. Both employees I interacted with during my visits were helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. In the shop, you can buy an assortment of gear from kettles, pour over apparatuses, various mugs, airtight canisters, scales, and choose from a rotation of fresh beans from local roasters, to purchase whole beans or taste in the brewing area in the back of the shop. They also sell the newly popularized third wave instant coffee packets at $3 a pop. All in all, a great playground for anyone interested in upping their coffee game, which is arguably strong in San Francisco. However, I probably would not go out of my way to fight for a space on the street and then cough up $7/hr for parking, because their items are also available online and at other retailers. read more

Note: This is not a coffee shop. It is a coffee equipment store that also sells beans. They have a lab out back to teach you how to make the best pour over of your life. You simply purchase 1oz test tube of any of the 5 or so single origin coffee beans on display, and let Danny (store manager) or his colleagues show you how to improve your pour over skills. This location is the flagship retail location of the Fellow Store, as well as the Playground (lab) at the back. We went in for the coffee beans -- specifically a Kansas roaster was featured. They carried 5 beans from Kenya to Guatemala. We picked 2 test tubes ($3 each + tax) of coffee beans and headed to the back with Danny, who ensured the water was at an even 205 degrees. He mentioned they use super pure reverse osmosis (soft) water that makes a difference. All the beans were medium to light roast and were ground at the setting for pour overs. Danny places the pre-heated carafe on a scale, wets the coffee filter with hot water, and throws away the water in the carafe. Next, he puts 20-28 grams of coffee grounds on the coffee filter and teaches us how to pour. The process takes over 3 minutes, with rebukes when you screw up. You can tell Danny is passionate and cares. He explains every step of the way, and tells you when to start and stop, when to pour slow, and fast. I purchased the Fellow Ode Gen 2 Coffee Grinder a few months ago. While I think the grinder is like a work of art, it does not work! I agree with the many owners of this grinder that it jams, beans to not feed into the grinder and often just stops working. EVERY time I use it I must hand feed the beans into the grinder, and then must WACK the side of the grinder hard in order to clear the jam! On a $350 Grinder?? REALLY????? I have emailed with Fellow Tech support and while they were friendly, ultimately they were useless. I have cleaned and recalibrated the grinder, and there is no difference. I asked for an estimated ship date after waiting a week with no updates and they then replied saying the system glitched and the item I ordered is out of stock & backordered until August. I emailed her again asking for a cancellation confirmation. No response. Emailed fellow again (since they don't have a phone number listed). No response. DM'd them on Instagram and. No. Response. My Ode grinder was 2+ years old and out of warranty. A staff member spent a considerable amount of time trying to fix it, and eventually offered an exchange. I was very pleasantly surprised and returned home to have a cup. it is increasingly rare that a business will go the extra mile. in addition to the Ode grinder which works extremely well, I have bought the Prismo filter for Aeropress, another well designed product that makes coffee brewing easier and yields consistent good results. read more

Now I am having to trade emails with someone to resolve the warranty issue and I feel like I am getting the run around and playing games. I ordered the tea kettle on 4/6 (they charged me immediately). I received an email shipping confirmation on 4/8 "Your Order Has Shipped". Each time I checked UPS it would give me the same "No Shipping Information Available". I contacted their ONLY source of contact which is an email address. No phone number anywhere. I tried social media and no response. I've been going back and forth via emails with different employees who take time to get back to me. I only live a few hours from their store which is extra odd I haven't received my order. The lack of customer service/support is really frustrating. They offered to give me an additional 10% off to keep waiting. I've been asked to wait "a few more days" since early last week. How does this company not have a phone number?! I don't personally relate to the goal of this store at all. It is the epitome of The New Valencia Street, uber-gentrified and geared towards monied techies who are obsessed with getting the ultimate pour-over coffee experience. I love good coffee as much as the next girl, but my french press at home does me just fine, so long as I use good beans. When I walked into this cavernous store, I noted how empty it felt, how few items they had on display...given the rents on Valencia St, that was my first warning that the price tags would be hefty! The kettles are admittedly stylish visually, with a modern, neo-Scandanavian aesthetic. Then I started noticing the prices...WOW!!! They have a bunch of wildly expensive kettles that they advertise as being "for coffee lovers", with price tags starting around $80 and going up to almost $200!! These aren't large kettles, either, so if you're looking to heat water for something other than your pour-over brew, it might not be of a sufficient size. I use an electric kettle everyday at home, admittedly mostly for large pots of tea. But I also use it for boiling water for all sorts of other things, from instant oatmeal to my slow cooker, and yes, my french press. The kettles this store sells are way more expensive than mine, and aren't marketed for other purposes besides making coffee. It's hard for me to imagine preferring this single-tasker, but again, if you're obsessed with the pour-over coffee world, this might be your, *achem*, cup of tea. Other items featured included a pour-over device for $59...that's not including any device or pitcher with which to catch the brewed coffee underneath! It has half the functionality of my french press for literally twice the price I paid! But the part that really got me (and the reason I'm giving this place a two-star rating) was that the employees completely ignored me and my partner while we walked around the store. No one said hello, offered us any guidance, or even batted an eyelash in our direction. There were *maybe* two other customers in the store, also walking around unassisted. It struck me as odd that a store that obviously sells such specialty items doesn't go out of its way to train staff to make sure folks who walk in are immediately enlightened as to the value of this rather pricey set of wares! I guess that's what really bothered me: An utter lack of customer interaction from the staff. I can find no reason to ever go back to this store. I love coffee and I love using an electric kettle, but not enough to invest in anything from this store. If, however, you are a hipster pour-over coffee devotee, maybe this is a place you'd want to put on your shopping agenda to visit...but be prepared to aggressively seek out assistance from staff when you visit, because if your experience is anything like mine, they might not approach you. read more

I preorder the coffee grinder in April and finally arrived yesterday. Sadly the machine does not grind at all but only makes the noise. Also, the edge of the cup is sharp and not polish well. So I contact customer support to return the product with the photo/video to show the proof, then the customer support told me they will charge me a 15% restocking fee if the item has been used even the grinder does not work at all. "I'm happy to walk through troubleshooting with you to remedy the issue, if you'd just like a straight return you would be assessed the restocking fee yes." I have their kettle and brewing tool and love it so much, but surprisingly the customer support is that horrible. read more

I popped into this store today, and all I can say is, WOW. I've been a huge coffee aficionado all my life, and I'm always on the hunt for the latest and greatest. I was amazed (and honestly surprised) at how well designed the Fellow products are. I was particularly impressed by their electric kettle. It's black, super sleek, and something that will actually look good on my kitchen counter. But here's the best part: behind the show room is a taste room where you can select a coffee bean of your choice, grind it up, and brew it using Fellow's pour over equipment. The guy in the store gave me step-by-step instructions, and the cup of coffee that I made was among the best I've ever had (I think I was using Linea coffee beans). Anyway, if you're in the market for well-designed coffee products that will look dope in your kitchen, check this place out. read more

This place was my personal favorite from our recent SF trip. The atmosphere is cool up front then in the back you get to experiment with Fellow's products. My group got to make their own pour overs for $3/coffee and had a great time. There was support and guidance from a Barista and the coffee came out great! We ended up purchasing some of the Fellow coffee products to replicate our experience at home. Several coffee roasters from around the US had beans to brew coffees with. Very fun idea.
