At one time there were a lot of hobby shops in the NYC area. The neighborhood shop I used for almost 50 years just closed. I use Willis Hobbies now as it's the closest shop to my location. There is still a very good shop on Staten Island but it's a hassle to get there. From my experience at Willis they are geared more towards the model railroad enthusiast. They also have a bunch of radio controlled cars, airplanes and quad-copters. As a model airplane scratch builder I can usually find what I am looking for as far as glue and balsa wood. I like the fact that there is parking (metered) behind the building.

Whoa! This place is like heaven for anyone who's into trains, rc cars, planes, ships.... Large selection! This is definitely one interesting place! The stuff here is definitely pricey. If you're into hobbies, you definitely need to stop by & check this place out, even if you are not planning to buy anything.

Great hobby store for trains. Great selection, great setups, and great showcases of vintage trains.

I am so jealous of Steve. How many grown men get to make a living playing with toys. He runs a great place.

Such an amazing experience , at this super cool comic book shop .... Highly recommend . Was treated…read morein a fair friendly professional way while selling a KISS comic book of my husbands ( PS framing these as art is a unique gift ) . Thank youuuu

Let me get this quickly out of the way. I do not read comic books nor am I a collector. I came…read morehere because I met a participant in their charitable cause the prior day and wanted to support the effort. This store is about one mile from my house and I had never been here before, even though they have been here over 20 years. This was their annual charitable event. I was greeted the door by Storm Troopers and Darth Vader. It was obvious that they have the right formula here. The small shop is PACKED with comic books and memorabilia. This is clearly the home base for comic book collectors and aficionados. I was here to see one of the artists drawing and support their charitable cause. I always find it amazing to watch an artist go from pen-paint-pencil to paper. Amazing talent. I had the opportunity to meet a cmic book author. We had an amazing conversation that was capped off by determining we went to elementary school together in Queens. It's always a small world. The owner is a wonderful man who is dedicated to his passion and charity work. I am looking forward to next years show and will look to possibly partner with them in my own charitable events. The staff here is wonderful and truly passionate to their hobby. KUDOs to the team here at Grasshopper's Comics

Just an old fashioned love song...oh no I mean, just an old fashioned stationery store!…read more Here you'll find.... Newspapers, magazines, post cards! Cigarettes and cigars! Notebooks, pads, envelopes, pens, planners, tape, scissors, labels, colored pencils, etc. (it is a stationery store after all) Elegant gift bags and gift wraps for every taste and occasion Candy and gum at the counter Helium balloons Lottery games (not Quick Draw) Plenty of little knickknacks and last minute gift ideas, especially for children (but enough for the grownups too) Handy ATM, only $2.00 They carry a great selection of cards, featuring American Greetings and some indie brands. Keep in mind, it's not 'half price cards' -- they are not cheap. It's the kind of card selection you find yourself browsing extensively, and going "ooooh" a lot; maybe you even end up buying 'advance' or 'emergency' cards because you know sooner or later you will need to send something special to someone special. All in all, for a card/stationery store it's about as good as it gets, plus it's a great place to shop small.
