I recently purchased a Traxxas slash here and received a free set of batteries for the remote! A small consolation yes, but i like things that are free! This was my first purchase here and I am excited to go back to see what else will interest me. They had a wide variety of products and the salesman directed me towards what fit my budget and expectations. The product performs as described and required next to no additional assembly which was what I was looking for. They have trains, cars, planes, boats, and parts to fix many of their products. If you are familiar with the show 'Cheers ' then you know all that is necessary about Willis Hobbies. Other than the drinks, the atmosphere is there. Friendly conversation on topics of interest. Knowledgeable on almost every aspect of modeling, and on the rare occasion that they might not have your answer, it is almost a guarantee that one of the hobbiests there will. I've been here quite a few times. Both for r/c stuff and models. The experience has been uniformly great. For the r/c I wanted a drone or helicopter. Upstairs they steered me to a small drone, easy to fly. Not expensive either. I would've paid more but I was told to start small and work up. I like that. As far as models, they have a large selection of all types. And they will special order for you. They have a large selection of paints and assorted brushes and things. Also a huge model rocket (Estes brand) wall with associated equipment. The staff will suggest additional items but aren't pushy about it. AND they only make suggestions when asked. They have gift certificates in any denomination you'd like. The prices are about what you'd expect from a brick & mortar store, but you get to handle the merchandise before buying. Nice change from online stores where you have to jump through hoops if you don't like what you've ordered. Give it a look. If you're new to hobbies this is a good place to start. read more

I had an excellent experience here. The staff was very helpful....in fact they treated my 5 year old with respect and patience, even showing him the party room. I found the prices to be excellent-- much cheaper than ebay. In fact, all the plastic models were 20% off. I plan on coming here regularly and will have my son's birthday here. My Fiance bought me a helicopter for Christmas and I took it out for the first flight and promptly ignored the directions and crashed it. I went there to get it fixed and my experience was nothing short of top notch. The owner told me exactly what I needed and looked at the helicopter immediately to tell me what I had broken. He then took like 15 minutes to demo what I was doing wrong and how to fix it. I have been going here since I was a kid and will continue to be a loyal customer. read more

Came in today to trade in a traxxas summit since i no longer use it and talk about a horrible experience. First off the vehicle was barely used and in great WORKING condition prior to bringing it in. Upon arriving they had said the value of the trade in was only $200 store credit! Compared to the $500 retail price. If I wanted cash it was only $250. Then to make sure it was in working condition they had to test it. Puts batteries in and can't even figure out how to pair the controller to the vehicle which was previously paired to my other vehicle. I finally had to show him after waiting 10 minutes for his "tech guy". All paired and only then did i find that in the process of hooking up batteries and moving things around he broke the power tab off of my motor causing it not to drive now. I call him out on it and he denies everything. Rather then offering to help replace motor at a discounted rate since the vehicle was working prior to it being in his hands he left me at the counter to try and put everything back together and gave me no other course of action. If you're looking to upgrade parts and have previous ones broken, this is the place to go. Useless, rude and not helpful by any means read more

I came in to buy HPI 1/5 scale Pro Line tires, bead locks and HPI wheels. What a rip off. I was initially told they would match Tower Hobbies (industry standard for hobby products). The price was adjusted for the HPI branded wheels, but could not adjust the price for the proline tires. A pair of 1/5,scale proline bowtie tires retail for $54.95 and sell for $36.95 on Tower Hobbies. They wouldn't match the price! I am never going back their again. Do not waste time or your money. No wonder why the bigger establishments are putting these mom and pop businesses out of business. These mom and pop shops are too greedy and want to OVERCHARGE their local customers in the local area! Buyers beware. read more

Overall a great hobby shop. Big selection of trains, r/c cars/planes and models. I spend most of my time in the train department, and the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. They do a great job of explaining functionality, brand differences and helping you make the right selection. Also very good about servicing trains both old and new. Are they somewhat pricey? Yes, if you are comparing to internet-only based stores. However, I would much rather spend my money to support a local store like Willis than spend hours trying to research various web sites/message boards. read more

I thought it was just me, I was with a friend to show her a few things for her son also to possibly have a party there for him ehen she noticed that every aisle we talked in the guy behind the counter stood and looked. Never once asked if ee needed help. Every other person they asked if they needed help (they were white ). Hmmmmmmm won't be back there anymore. 106 hobbies on Jamaica Ave in Queens. They treat everyone the same. I should have never went there today. I'll never go there again. Bottom Line is if you're black you WILL BE TREATED DIFFERENT! !! read more

Purchased two Imex RC helicopters for my sons and we had a total of 15 seconds of flight time before they broke one had a drive gear for the rotor fly out and was lost. The second one the top rotor flew off in flight. Called the store and was told sorry no money back and manufacture does not support the product or warranty it.. Called the manufacture and they suggested I NEVER SHOP THERE. They certainly do support there products and warranty them. They sent me two new helicopters in the mail after receiving the old ones. Would not shop there again. read more

Willis has been in Business for many years. So they have a good business model. In the train area, they have a good selection of American O gauge tinplate - MTH and Lionel. Their strong point is the German Maerklin trains. This includes all the gauges of HO, Z, and Maxi. If they have them, the free catalogs are a bonus. However, do not expect any bargains. They are overpriced . My issue with them is their inoperable repair parts. But if you would like to browse and explore trains, planes, and cars; it is a good place for residents of Nassau County. They are near the Northern State. If you want better service and prices, go to Trainland in Valley Stream. read more
