I've been going to the Willow Room for many years and couldn't be more delighted with the wonderful service, vibe and products. Amanda is a fabulous listener who can craft the most amazing hair designs with her artistic talent. I feel completely seen and always walk out with the most fun styles! I'm not sure where the inspiration came from to create this gorgeous place, but it is worth a visit if you like a vibe that is earthy and fun. My daughter booked me a 3 hr session with Krissy(as a gift). My first time at the salon. It was a new experience in so many positive ways. From setting up the appointment, to the ambiance of the salon, to the way my hair was cut/colored are just a few examples! Krissy is an absolutely down to earth lovely person who is an exceptional listener. I sent her pictures, answered a little questionnaire and we even had an in-person consult days before my appt. The day of the appointment exceeded all my expectations. Krissy gave me the best cut and color I have had in years!!! And it actually looked like the "inspiration" pictures I sent. The color was a bit of surprise since it was out of my normal safe zone, but she absolutely nailed it (like she knew me better than I did myself and I love it!). The cut is amazing...she cut it dry (I have fine hair) which I never had done before. She made me feel at ease and I had total trust in her the whole time. Amanda was a fantastic stylist, she took the time to do a thorough consult to make sure we were on the same page before the haircut was started. The extra touch of a scalp and hand massage was especially appreciated. This place is amazing!! I went to get a hair cut and color by Jen yesterday and it was an awesome experience on every possible level. First of all, the haircut and color turned out great. This was the first time I've ever liked my haircut without having to "get used to it" for a few weeks (even though I usually go to salons)! Most places either cut my hair way in a way that's way too feminine or way too masculine, but I was able to explain what gender expression I was going for and go from there!! But the best part for me was how safe, calm, and welcoming the whole experience made me feel. Jen was super sweet and asked me for my pronouns (you can also select "nonbinary" as your gender when signing up!! Which is so validating!!) and the prices aren't based on gender, just on the services you pick!! Jen also made me tea and gave me an arm/hand massage!! I normally don't feel comfortable with people touching me even if I know them, but I felt comfortable enough to say yes to that!! I didn't even know that LGBTQ+ inclusive salons existed and I'm so so happy to have found a place that's so comfortable and affirming!! I had a great first experience at Willow Room! I had a haircut with Amanda yesterday; she really made me feel comfortable and went above-and-beyond to listen to my wishes/preferences and added little touches (scalp and hand massage, hot towel conditioner treatment) that elevated it from an everyday haircut to a veritable spa experience. She's a true professional! The salon is a charming space with original Tudor revival details, bright lighting, high ceilings, and vintage furnishings. Highly recommended. read more

I enjoyed the atmosphere of the willoow room and really loved the personality of the woman who cut my hair. The haircut, unfortunately, wasn't done properly, I don't think. The ends have a very chopped look, pieces in the front are longer than the rest, and the layers are not blended (or even really connected. Again, my stylist was very kind and I really enjoyed talking with her. I don't want to revveal her name because I don't want this review to come across cruel to her. I also like that this salon uses more natural products! I'm just disappointed in the haircut and would not recommend this salon as a result. **update: the willow room was very kind and professional when I brought my haircut to their attention. They did talk with me personally and offered to fix the cut. I did decide to have a stylist I I've worked with in the past fix the cut which resulted in the willow room offering a refund. My stylist was very professional and I did ask that she keep the money I tipped for her work. It's very possible I just had a bad experience and that this particular cut does not represent the work of my stylist at the willow room. I increased my rating because I i think it really speaks to the character of the place how well this issue was Handled. My experience does not need to discourage other from trying this salon out for themselves. read more

I love the Willow Room! They're tucked away in the tudor building on Detroit next to a church, so it can be easy to miss. I had been driving by it for years and never noticed it until a friend suggested I go there. I'm adding a photo to this review to point out where it is. I get haircuts and brow waxes there, and Amanda always does an excellent job. Deb is also amazing at manicures! The whole staff is really warm and friendly and the prices are affordable for the awesome quality of work. The interior is beautifully decorated with natural wood and handmade shelves and fixtures. They have beautiful velvet chairs, mixed textile seats, and warm lighting. Its really relaxing and elegant. They also carry the full line of Davines products, which I recommend to anyone who loves essential oil/natural scents! read more

Anna gave me the best haircut I've ever had. Whole experience was wonderful. I actually sat in the chair and said to myself that I don't care what the price is because the haircut was amazing, the massage was amazing, products were high end, and place was beautiful. I've been going to Willow Room for more than 8 years now, and won't go anywhere else for my hair care. Their team is extremely talented and friendly. I go to Amanda for color/cut and she is a balayage pro. The Willow Room team did my hair for my wedding day, along with my bridesmaids and did such a fantastic job creating unique looks for each of the girls. Beyond their talent, I appreciate the ambiance and Casey's (the owner) commitment to products that are free of harsh chemicals (they're a Davines salon) as well as sustainability. It gives extra peace of mind on top of an already relaxing environment -- the complimentary scalp, hand and arm massage don't hurt either :) read more

TLDR: I walked out paying almost 20% more than I'd anticipated, but with only the haircut I'd come for, and what should have been a relaxing hour was instead a fight with anxiety over the ticking clock. I've gone back and forth for a week on whether or not to write this review, but I think a different perspective is needed. I went to this salon bc of it's mission, but unfortunately I can't ever imagine going back. The stylist was attentive, but all in between her running late with the client before me and the other stuff they add into the process, we went about 10 minutes long (I checked my clock when back in the car). That resulted in an overage charge that really surprised me given I had done nothing to take us over. It was barely explained and as a client, I felt blindsided. I was really looking forward to my appointment, but was so aware of the clock bc of their new policy that I couldn't relax. Basically, it feels to me like you can only go here if your budget is very flexible. They've priced out anyone who needs to understand their true cost upfront. And this was only a haircut. The whole vibe of the space is beautiful & open, the staff are all incredibly friendly and warm in a very genuine way. On top of that-they are incredibly talented! I had such a great experience getting my hair cut and colored here for the first time today. Usually when I get my hair done I leave liking it, today, I left LOVING it. Molly did such a great job. This place offers a very relaxing experience, it's a little more than I am used to paying for a haircut but it's worth it. I have seen Amanda twice and I feel confident with her work.
