Dr Larry is one of the most caring veterinarians I have met. He is a talented doctor that not only treats his patients as a priority but also has a human side that talks to pet parents and explains everything in detail. Unfortunately I had to bring my 9 year old cat to Dr Larry because he wasn't acting like himself. He believed me when I said this and didn't just ignore my concerns. He took some blood and didn't like what he saw and took some xrays. He was just as much in shock as we were to learn our fur baby had lymphoma. We talked over some options and decided to try to keep him comfortable with steroids. Two days later things were getting worse and we called to make an appointment to have him put down. Dr Larry called a little while to check in and agreed that it was time. We ended up rushing our little guy over because he took a sharp turn for the worse. The office was closed for lunch however Dr Larry was treating another patient. He gave our precious kitty a little something to relax him while we said our goodbyes. Andy passed a few minutes later. Dr Larry was very caring in handling the situation. Allowing us as much time as we needed and carrying our Andy off gently even giving me the opportunity for one last kiss. We picked up our Andy's cremains this morning and again Dr Larry came out to talk to us and offer his condolences. I know this turned into a long review but I just want to convey how caring Dr Larry and his entire staff is. We will definitely be using Dr Larry for our next fur baby. read more

After multiple visits, it's hard not to question why there is such a high staff turnover at this practice. Every appointment seems to introduce a new employee, and after what I've personally witnessed, that lack of continuity is concerning but not surprising. The exam rooms do not have doors, which already creates an uncomfortable environment. During procedures, there is always a staff member assisting with restraint. When my dog naturally reacted by moving his leg during a blood draw (a completely normal response), the atmosphere in the room instantly became tense. One staff member looked genuinely afraid--not because anyone had done anything wrong, but because of the doctor's reaction. Across multiple separate visits, I have personally observed Dr. Larry throw a used needle across the room, past an employee's head, into the sink. I've also heard repeated belittling remarks toward staff and witnessed behavior that clearly undermines and intimidates employees in front of clients. His short temper and apparent anger issues are not subtle, and it is deeply unprofessional to treat staff this way--especially in a medical setting involving animals and sharp instruments. Dr. Larry openly gave a harsh, intimidating glare in front of me, making the entire appointment extremely uncomfortable. I wasn't even the patient, and I still felt uneasy. While Dr. Larry does appear passionate about the animals themselves, his passion is overshadowed by his treatment of employees in his establishment and the consistent pressure toward the most expensive treatment options, products, or plans. It often feels less like a balanced discussion of care and more like a push toward the highest-cost solution, leaving me unsure whether those recommendations are truly the best option or simply the most profitable. That said, the rest of the staff is genuinely kind and caring. Dr. Luke is knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate, and the receptionist--who is Dr. Larry's wife, despite how she is spoken to--is incredibly sweet and always goes above and beyond to help. Their kindness is honestly the only reason I've continued returning. Unfortunately, no amount of friendly staff can fully compensate for an environment that feels tense, uncomfortable, and at times unsafe. Professionalism, respect, and emotional control matter just as much as medical expertise, and this practice falls short in that regard. read more

Morris Hills veterinary clinic is very professional. Dr Larry Hirshenson was very thoughtful and caring for my puppies who had an abscess. He was able to quickly diagnose and treat her. Staff was very professional. I was hesitant at first due to the fact you have to drive up to the back of a house. However it is a legitimate clinic and super busy. I have never had a bad experience with a veterinary practice until I came here. the front desk receptionist is extremely rude and would always cut me off whenever I would try to explain something or ask a question. On top of that, they are extremely expensive. Just a routine annual checkup cost me nearly $400!! Since then, I've went to Butler Veterinary Hospital and every single staff member has been extremely friendly. I'd steer clear of Morris hills vet. read more

He always took amazing care of my cat (among other animals as well) -- in times of need that's what you need a veterinarian & Dr Hirshenson fully lived up to the call of duty. The BEST! Were our go-to for our chihuahua mix for 17 years - they helped with behavior, made sure we got all the vaccines and health checks, and were super receptive to any puppy year stomach upsets. They also were really wonderful with all of the lyme scares over the years (welcome to NJ haha) and making sure she was vaccinated and had all her routine medications. Towards the end of her life, they treated her with great respect - made sure she was comfortable, happy and able to enjoy her last days at home in the sun. Will always be grateful to them!! Our new puppy has felt very loved - theyve helped keep us on track with vaccines and helped keep her healthy. Excellent place - we are lifelong patients! read more

Doctor Larry Hirshenson and staff are caring, professional practitioners who really care for thier clients and thier human families. What I really respect about Doctor Larry is that he listens to our concerns and acts ( or not ) accordingly. Although his bedside manner can at times be a bit gruff, he will treat your pets as if they were his own. Allow extra time for visits here..... the doctor takes the time to be very thorough with each client, and this sometimes pushes appointments back into the land of lateness. We're very happy with the love and care our dogs receive here. The staff and Docs truly love animals and what they do. However, my biggest complaint would be how much they charge. Yes, Id much rather pay for for a vet i trust, but there comes a point where i feel taken advantage of... The prices of certain services are 3xs the price you would pay elsewhere. And im not talking about diagnosis' or procedures. Im talking about your basic nail clipping, shots, visits etc Im not sure where their over head is to charge these high prices. read more

Dr. Larry Hirshenson saved my dog, Daisy's, life when she contracted some unknown virus and became extremely ill. Both he and his son, Dr. Lucas, are amazing with animals. They care for my 2 dogs (1 small, 1 giant) and my cat. My larger, overly energetic dog ate a corn cob out of the trash several months ago and the doctors worked together to hydrate and monitor him until he passed the cob (ouch!), avoiding costly surgery. I won't take my pets any place else. They are very thoughtful and thorough doctors who won't waste your time or money. read more

Hands down the best Vet I've ever taken my pet to. Dr. Hirsh has a great rapport with all the animals I've seen in his office, and you can tell as soon as you meet him that he truly loves what he does. He has always given me, my family, and our dog the kindest, most compassionate, and honest medical advice in every situation. When our dog was ill, we had two options: risky (and expensive) surgery that might have killed him, or take him home and let him live his final months at home. Hirsh told my mom and I, verbatim, "take him home and love him." He's not chasing down easy profits- we would have paid anything he asked just to keep our dog healthy, but he put my family and our relationship with our dog first. When the dog finally passed on (at our home, not in their office) we even got a hand-written, heartfelt card from Hirsh. Put simply, he's more than just a vet. He's your dog's best friend, and your best bet for great animal care. read more

You cannot ask for a Doc who cares more, or will do more to keep your pet healthy. It is not uncommon to receive calls from Doctor Hirshenson after 9PM checking in on his post-op patients, ensuring that they are recovering well and providing confidence in us that our pets will be ok. He has been a great source of comfort in times of loss and provides excellent care in extending the active part of our pets lives. When your pet has health issues, be confident that Dr. Hirshenson will provide you with the best options. Take the best care of your pet possible and bring them to see Dr. Larry and Lucas Hirshenson. We have used Morris Hills Vet for many years now and in fact found out about them trough a friend and his parents as well . It's a family run practice with both father and son being excellent doctors. They always explain everything and are the most thorough vets we have ever been too. They may not be the cheapest but they are in our humble opinion they best. read more

Dr. Lucas Hirshenson is a great doctor, very caring and treats all his patients with the utmost care. On the other hand his father, Dr. Larry Hirshenson is very smart and knows what he's talking about but has some anger issues to say the least. I've seen him repeatedly yell at his wife who works at the front desk and his employees. He makes them look foolish and treats them like they're stupid. He does this in the exam room which is very unprofessional. He curses in front of clients when he gets annoyed and I've seen him get annoyed with a client (there are no doors on the exam rooms) that was putting her dog down because she was taking too long to say goodbye. He also likes to mumble things under his breath when he gets annoyed with clients and thinks that we can't hear him or doesn't care if we do. He is a very intelligent doctor but he definitely has two different sides to him. If you can get past his lack of bedside manner than he's the doctor for you. If you're looking for someone who is warm and patient then you are probably better off going somewhere else. read more

My tabby cat was struggling with crystals over the weekend and thanks to the recommendations of Dr. Hirshenson we were able to get him the help he needed until their office opened. Come Monday Dr. Hirshenson took over the care of my boy. My tabby spent the night at Morris Hills Vet, and he was in the best of care. Every person in that office loves animals and treats them with the utmost respect and kindness. I took my dog for a yearly visit. I was told the exam was routine. When I went to pay I was handed a bill for $715.00. Seriously?? That's a yearly physical? I was informed he ran blood tests and a biopsy which i was not told is an extra charge. Would a mechanic fix your car without asking first if the charges and work were authorized! This is the second or third time unnecessary tests were run without permission. I believe this is an outrage. I asked if I could pay half and was told no. Dr Larry and his son Dr Luke are two of the most caring people I have met. This is as good as it gets folks. Caring, professional and they know their stuff. I have three rescue pups and I would not take them anywhere else for care. I drive almost an hour to be able to have them care for my dogs. Dr Larry was there for me when my 19 year old Himalayan cat went to heaven. He even wrote me a handwritten heart felt sympathy card. These guys are the best, a nice family run business.
