Guess who just got new blinds and shades installed, YAY! I kept the ones I moved into the house with, and since then, they had to be moved (when I got new windows), resulting in some fitting differently. I also got a cat that (by accident) broke some of the blinds panels... and in other instances, the blinds just stopped opening because the mechanisms broke. So I've been thinking about getting new blinds for quite a while, and I knew I wanted it to be something sturdier than the classic thin beige ones. I did some research, and realized the kind of blinds I wanted, but also learned that they could only be purchased through certain distributors. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to support a small local business, so that's how I stumbled upon Wills Decorating. I arrived one early afternoon and the place really did feel like a mini Lowes or something, hahaha. The man behind the counter was wrapping things up with another customer. I took the time to explore and I immediately found the blinds I had in mind. But I also saw these cool looking shades that could be opened from the bottom... AND top. And they had this cool honeycomb shape, I was intrigued! When the man was done, I found it his name was Michael, and he is one of the owners, and he's local local! He grew up near the same community I currently live. So we talked about blinds and shades, and we arranged for the co-owner, Valerie, to call me so we could schedule time for her to come over. Within a week she came, and I made some decisions that I am so delighted with now that the project is done. We discussed colors, I told her what my plans were for painting -- she was VERY efficient and professional. And she was also very friendly, willing to chat about my vision and give recommendations. Days later, she followed up with a quote and we made it happen. I had to pay half once I decided to move forward, and then the other half after installation. Another person, Dave, came and did the installation at every window. He came in the middle of a workday, and I told him when I had meetings -- he started with my office window, and I was worried about having to move my desk. He was able to easily work around it! He worked very quickly! I was thoroughly pleased with what he had done -- and it wasn't before long I had a follow-up conversation with Valerie and she was asking how everything looked. Dave had sent her some pics and she was as excited as me. All that to say, I am overjoyed and I'm looking forward to my next house upgrade (when I cool down, financially, haha). read more

They also helped with wallpaper and other design elements of my home remodel. Perfect local shop that really does it all! EVERY paint color he's recommended for my home I love how it turns out and even get lots of compliments when people see the finished work. It's the only place I buy paint. Ignored by staff - lost our business. We went in to purchase custom drapes for 7 windows. Took about 7 minutes to be greeted. The gentleman was nice enough and when we told him we were there for custom drapes, he informed us the other employee, a lady, was the specialist in that area, and she would be happy to assist. He informed her that we would need her assistance. She looked at us and said nothing. We continued to look at samples. She organized the curtain samples. Now, to here credit, she had another couple there that were looking at sample as well, but she was not tending to them either. They were looking as samples and talking to each other. We looked at book after book. Found to we liked. The gentleman came back by and said, there were even more sample in another section. We loudly said, I think we found what we were looking for. She continued to organize. She looked at us, standing there, then turned and organized some more. We waited another 10 minutes. The other nice couple said, I think we found the one. She said she would be right back - walked right past us - nothing said - out the door - to her car, got her supplies, and yep, walked back in, right past us again, and top the other couple who looked at us like "wow - not even a hello" - they saw it to. So, we stood up, and I loudly said "Well, that's enough for me - we are leaving." Called another company on the way home, went there, picked out what we wanted. They came by this morning - total project cost - $3,250. Way to lose a sale by not even acknowledging a customer within 30 minutes. Guess who I will not be recommending to all the other new home buyers in this brand new community! read more

Mike, the owner of Will's Decorating, is easily one of the friendliest people I've ever met in a store in his category. Before I had been to Will's, I had been to Home Depot like four times, and Sherwin Williams once. I wish I went local to start with. I also wish this store was closer to Bethesda. We need more small local shops like this. Anyways, Mike recounted fantastic stories of some of his customers, their paint choices, and was really helpful (in non pressure sort of way) of helping me pick out my color. He informed me that the Stonington Gray was their biggest seller (and that historic colors like Stonington Gray were trending hot right now). I had come in looking for the coventry gray. I did like both of those grays (which I got samples of), but ultimately decided of the lighter shade in that color family which was Wickham gray. I also told him about my dive into the rabbit hole of picking up paint sample after paint sample. I told him that lighter grays were looking lavender on my wall. He straight up told me "Paint the whole wall corner to corner, you won't see that lavender anymore." He was absolutely right. It was just the light grays sitting against the existing green wall that was making it look SOOO purple. Not only does he work with local businesses like Peg Leg Vintage, he also supports local religious institutions. A great shop! Clean, inviting, and Mike is fantastic. I hope my interior decorating brings me back there! read more

Top-notch quality and fantastic customer service from a family-owned business. I bought top-down, bottom-up blinds for my older, quirky house. Valerie was knowledgeable and very helpful. She asked the right questions to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. She came and measured my odd windows very carefully, and installation was quick and pain-free. This is an old experience but I realized I didn't share. I came to Wills Decorating back in April. They were one of the few places that still have wallpaper in their store. As I walked around, the owner (I believe Mike) came by to check on me. As I shared what I needed (thinking it was the easy wet and hang wallpaper), he coached me through how easy the pasting is now for wallpaper. He directed me toward supplies and gave me hits. I finally got around to hanging it and it looks gorgeous. Mike is just a dream. I just wish he had another store with a twin closer to this side of the beltway. A pro-tip: Don't bother parking at the pay lot up the street. There's easy and free parking directly behind his store. read more

Will's Home Decorating has a very homey feel. They have a wide range of home furnishings for lamps to flooring and much more. I stopped by with my parents and we were looking to purchase some hardwood flooring. The store was very cluttered and a it took quite a while to get the attention of anyone...I'd say we waited about 20-30 minutes. Unfortunately they didn't have flooring that matched what we were looking for. They do have quite a bit of stuff and once you get someone they are pretty helpful. I'm not a huge fan of how much stuff they have on the floor but if you can search the floor you'll probably find what you're looking for. read more

They responded quickly to let me know that they did not actual do this type of work, but could help with supplies and recommendations for contractors. I stopped in on lunch break one afternoon to look at fabric swatches for drapery. There were two women in the store one with big hair and another elderly woman. I wasn't sure I was in the right place because the building looks a little shabby from outside and it took a few doors to find the right one. The woman with big hair had to leave, so I was left with the elderly woman who was running the store. She and I chatted and I looked at swatches for custom drapery. She told me that the designer could help me better and to leave my contact information. While in the front I decided to look around at the furniture. That's when the elderly woman received a call in which she began reporting where she was in the store and who was there with her. I presume this was the woman with the big hair (who I realize was the designer/owner) calling to check on her. I did not receive a call back from the designer and I even left my number again the next day and spoke to a man (probably the other owner) who took it again. Was this a case of shopping while black? Not sure. I present myself very well and could certainly afford the services (why else would I stop in a random small drapery boutique?), but maybe they just have so much business they didn't need my money. I find that hilarious especially given the fact that all this time I thought their storefront was a thrift furniture outlet. Took my business to the Shade Store. read more

So, so, SO happy! This business has only gotten better over the 15 years that I've been coming here. My most recent experience was the icing on the cake. First of all, I absolutely adore one of the owners, Michael. When he greets you, you feel immediately few like you're a VIP customer. He is not only endearing, but extremely knowledgeable and genuinely cares about why you're there. I came in this time looking for wallpaper. I found two that I liked and bought both with the intention of returning the one that I didn't use. I had a contractor install two rolls and he did an awful, horrible job. I had him halt the work and brought the two remaining rolls back to Michael. I was not about to let this guy install $80 more worth of wallpaper. I told him what happened and showed him pictures. He immediately got on the phone with one of his expert installers, Tam Nyguen, and told him I was having a "wallpaper emergency" LOL! Tam came to the store 20 minutes later, followed me to my house and installed the paper right then and there - perfectly. It was literally night and day from the job that the previous contractor had done. He was able to even spare me from having to buy one additional role. After losing two rolls to a bum job, that was music to my ears. The store itself is spacious and well-organized. They have 100s of wallpaper albums, some in stock options, and a wide array of Benjamin Moore paint selections. The customer service, however, is what takes this store to the next level. Michael went above and beyond for me today and Tam did as well. I am very happy to have such a great place so close by, though I would drive 100 miles for this kind of service. read more

On the recommendation of a dear friend I purchased over $200 worth of Benjamin Moore paint from the proprietor, Michael whom I met at this store 12/19/2020. I was there nearly 25 minutes before he finally approached and greeted me. 4 days later, the painter informed me he needed a quart more of one shade so, I rang the store and again spoke with Michael, to arrange for a prepaid curbside pickup. He rudely announced that "we no longer are doing that by phone, pre-mix and pre-order for quarts," and hung up abruptly. I mean WOW it's a pre-paid order for curbside pick up -- you can't mix paint for a quart, only gallons ---WHAT?!! Seriously, this was totally surprising, afterall, it's a global pandemic. The entire retail world has gone to pre-paid orders, on-line orders, and furthermore, curbside, pre-paid pick ups ARE THE NEW NORMAL. I had to arrange my schedule to drive there after work, in the middle of rush hour, to get there to order IN PERSON, paint needed to complete my project, which had now been delayed because of this out of touch, very rude man. I called him when, naturally, as fate would have it, I got in a traffic snarl 5 minutes away from my destination -- traffic at a complete standstill, and minutes before the store closing @ 5:00 pm, just as a courtesy to inform him that because of his earlier refusal to mix a quart of paint mid-morning, I was now running late in evening rush hour, to get to his establishment. When I finally parked and entered the store, Michael was casually conversing with 2 female patrons, UNMASKED. He kept his conversation going for another 8-10 minutes before acknowledging my presence, and feigned ignorance of my purpose for being there -- when I said incredulously "I was just speaking with you and am here to pick up the quart of paint", he snapped saying, again without apology, "oh yes, the quart", picked it up from the back and placed it on the counter. He made no apology for keeping me, a customer, waiting while he socialized. From what I observed in my in-person and telephone encounters with Michael, he is a selfish, rude, offensive, unwelcoming, and discourteous personality -- out of touch with customer service and now routine pandemic protocols. I guess he reserves his sophisticated charm for those customers he prefers. The painter was astonished at my report. Neither of us will refer others to this establishment or shop there again -- EVER. read more

My wife and I are having a baby so we went to Will's to see if they could help us to decorate the baby's room. We received at our house Michael and Valerie, and they were incredible. They showed us different styles and designs for the room. The design we chose was perfect for the baby. We bought a blue wallpaper, a blue navy carpet that matches perfectly with the wallpaper, and also a modern blind. My wife and I have been customers of Will's for decades. We recently purchased carpeting for our entire house and the experience was fantastic. When you go in the store and start looking at samples, it can be overwhelming, but Michael is there to explain the brands, the styles, the materials, order samples, and answer questions. After that things got so much easier. Valerie measured the rooms, the carpet was ordered, delivered, and they arranged for the installation.
