Had lunch at this Mexican restaurant in Sterling where we got some great drinks and mediocre eats. It happens to be away from anything else worth checking out. Willy's is pretty much forgotten about except by those who live by there. Funny how most in town have never heard of it. There's a few pretty great specials. Coming here the first time it looked like it may be closed. It's located on the far west side of town. There's like nothing around it so hardly anyone even sees it or goes there. Best thing was it was a great day to go. It's $5 margaritas on Tuesdays. These even were a bit watery but whatever. As for the food menu, it's meaty. Hardly anything here for us. That was whack. It's $10 to get Guacamole And Chips. These were average to be honest. Go check out the specials so you know when to go. It's basic stuff. They're closed Sundays and Wednesdays. read more

It's simple you don't know how to cook seafood I've tried it twice. The first time I had to send the order back twice with crawfish because the undercooked them you couldn't get them out of the shell. I went in again the other night with my boss because he was wanting a Lonestar beer they had run out. I asked the girl at the bar how long they've been out she said quite a while manager how come you're running out of Lonestar beer that is completely ridiculous so I thought I'd give it another chance. I didn't order the crawfish but I fall well. I'll order the shrimp. I ordered the shrimp again they were undercooked. You could not get them out of the shell peel and peel and peel and it just stuck to it. I asked the bartender again. I actually gave her a shrimp and she tried to peel it. My boss tried to peel them. No one offered me a discount. No one offered me anything. I would gladly come in and give you people lessons and how to cook seafood could be because apparently, or that is Bohl seafood apparently after 3×3 different orders now you still can't get it right I also questioned the bartender how they did it and when she told me, I realized even more that you don't know what you're Doing. She also mentioned that other people love it maybe so but maybe they don't know anything about seafood either I did watch the first time I come in some people try to eat crawfish and they didn't know how to eat them either. They said they peeled each one little piece by piece trying to eat it having this difficulty with it the whole time I wonder if they'll be back, I doubt it who wants to sit there for two hours trying to eat 1 pound of crawfish. I have been a long time customer when I get up to the Sterling area. I live in Washington, IL and happened to be there this past Monday April 7th. The food was as wonderful and reasonably priced as always! I got the combo Fajitas and some tamales, etc. My friend got a variety plate with a few choices. We were both impressed with the prompt service. We didn't have any cocktails but the bar area was hustling as well. Our server was perfect and our ice teas never ran out. I got a dozen tamales to go... I regret not getting 2 or 3 dozen as my family devoured them for lunch Tuesday. read more

This place is good! Staying in Rock Falls for work and I searched Yelp for Mexican food and found this place. So glad I chose to stop in! Barbacoa tacos were delicious, was happy to hear they offer it; back home barbacoa isn't traditionally offered at our Mexican restaurants, so this was positive from the start. Food was exceptional and service was friendly and accommodating. Give it a go! Side note; when I was checking out I overheard the staff tell an incoming couple that the kitchen was closed and it was only 7:30pm. The bar remains open, however. I've been here twice with my fam- and I like it. An un-assuming authentic Mexican restaurant on the western outskirts of Sterling. The place has a lot of tables for dining, and a large bar area for those just looking to watch the game, have some drinks, etc. The menu is huge. I mean huge. And they will do almost any substitution you can dream up. Breakfast served as well. My main reason for going though- the GIGANTOR peach frozen margarits! Fresh made tortilla chips and salsa with a KICK as soon as you are seated. Sometimes when I look around the restaurant while I'm eating- I could almost picture that I am in a little restaurant IN Mexico. But then I look at the digi-jukebox attached to the wall, and it brings me back. I hear they have awesome Cinqo de Mayo parties too. They must have a large buffet some days of the week too- because I saw the buffet area. And our waitress- sweet as can be!! read more

I've been here once so far, but it struck me as a very clean place with good food and pleasant servers. There was definitely a nice laid-back vibe, but we were definitely not neglected. My friend and i stopped here today from the Quad Cities. I had heard the food was pretty good. It really was. We each ordered a 'Willy's taco' and a 'Fabian's taco'. The Fabian taco was the better of the 2 (had avocado, etc) but they were both splendid. The chips they brought out were light and airy. A big plus for me was that they offered Horchada, which a lot of places don't have. Prices were on par with most Mexican restaurants. I have yet to get a good Mexican meal at a restaurant in Sterling Dixon or Rock Falls. Excellent service, great chips and hot sauce. Got the Tuesday special - all you can eat beef tacos, bean tostadas, cheese enchilada and chicken flautas. All served with lettuce, tomato and cheese, with onion and cilantro available by request. Flour or corn tortillas. What? I look to make sure this isn't Taco Bell. In Chicago, tacos come with onion and cilantro in corn tortillas, cheese is available by request. Enchilada surprisingly flavorless despite their deep chile color. Flautas oily. Tostada great if you ask for onion and cilantro and go heavy on the hot sauce. Beef taco not bad on taste but heavy on grease. Rice very salty. My family explains that this was an off night, that generally their food is much higher in quality. I understand off nights, but when you change fundamental aspects of Mexican food, Americanize it the way they have, the authenticity is shot. Corn tortillas, filling, onion and cilantro only is not only simple, but if the filling is prepared well, all you need. read more

For the last three years the wife and I have camped in the area about every other week, and were looking for a good Mexican eatery. We've tried a couple and were disappointed. So, we decided to try Willy's but frankly with a name like that we didn't hold out much hope. We were wrong. The food and service are fantastic. This place rivals the best Mexican you can find in Chicago or Joliet. The chips and Salsa were on point as were the two different dinners we had. Even the side dishes that come with the dinners were fantastic. And best of all our server was a prince. My wife is a tamale lover and we didn't see it on the menu so we asked. Our server told us the tamales were being made and would take another forty minutes. We waited and purchased twelve tamales for fifteen dollars. They were the best tamales we have ever had. They are filled with pulled and flavored pork and seasoned to perfection. Willey's is our new go to eatery for Mexican food. Try them out you won't be disappointed. read more

Very good authentic Mexican restaurant. Food tastes like it's cooked fresh on the spot. The chips are hand cut and fried to order. Everything I have had off the menu is very good and seems to be more authentic and of better quality than your average Mexican restaurant. I work for a large corporation located in Sterling, we cater in lunch 3 times a week for a large project we are working on. It has been very hard to find restaurants to deliver lunch while providing good quality food and service. I have been ordering lunch for about 15-30 people from Willy's every Thursday since November. They always deliver on time, the food is hot and they are willing to work with me. We do a la carte style taco buffet and it's wonderful. read more

Stopped into town and really wanted some family style midwest mexican food. Colorado has green chile and smothered burritos but Illinois has some of the best tacos and enchiladas I have ever had. We tried the buffet (I think they only have it on the weekends?) it was really good for the price and had everything my heart desired. I was told by a local Mexican friend that this place has the best Mexican food in town so I had to check it out. The bar in the back is pretty busy with lots of regulars which is a good thing. Waiters are very friendly and quick. The free chips and salsa is also decent. We ordered a steak fajita and couldn't chew through the meat as it was way overcooked and rubbery. So I ordered a chicken fajita instead and even that was so bland that it tasted like it was boiled in water. I may be back to have a drink at the bar and eat the chips n salsa but nothing else. I still say La Familia and Taqueria El Carbon are the best Mexican restaurants around. I have yet to try Jacalito but I've heard good things. read more

My boyfriend and I visited on a Saturday night. It was my first time here. We got there a little before an hour before they closed. Staff acted like they didn't want us there, even though there was a party of 15 or so people there so I'm not sure why they were mad at us. Long story short: food was bad and service was bad. Also, my chicken, which was served to me shredded, was not cooked. They knowingly served me pink chicken in my quesadillas, how could you not notice the shredded meat was clearly pink?
