At some point during my youth I realized…read morethat I could upgrade from the dinky shed of a library I'd read my fill of to this towering library that is three stories (badum tss) high. There is something for everyone, and I could seriously get lost combing the aisles for books all day. They have a media section as well, one that my friend sings praises over as she binges on new music and movies. And sometimes, when you're lucky, the first floor is flooded with old books looking to be rehomed. Don't wait for the sale, come explore, and keep coming.

But also be aware that libraries have so much more these days. The Batavia branch has games you can borrow, stem kits for kids, a seed library! On top of that check out the events on their website or social media, they have so many free activities for adults and kids alike, from art activities to movie nights to so many more. We have been to paint nights for both adults and even my 1 year old, they had a cool baby race my daughter participated in, we gave been to trivia and always participate in their summer read program. I didn't know what I was looking for and just wanted to browse but having them mixed in with all the other books made that almost impossible. They don't even have a graphic novel sticker on the spine like some other libraries do. I was bummed until I talked to Sonoma. She apologized for not having them organized by genre and said she hopes to get that done soon, it's been on the list of things to do for a while. First she asked some questions to see what type would interest me most. Then she proceeded to gather graphic novels off the shelf for me. piling one after another on a table. She explained each one just a bit as the stack grew. She had great insight and knowledge that I appreciated. I ended up with about 20 books (I'm kind of obsessed and couldn't resist Sonoma's enthusiastic "sales pitch"). When I checked out she even put them in a nice bag for me (asking me to return the bag next time I visit) and I left there so happy with a ton of new reading material. Many of the titles were really, really good too! Sonoma turned me on to new authors that I will continue to read. There's nothing like a librarian who knows her stuff!

Need a book? Great get it for free here? Have to hop online or use an actual computer? They have you covered. Want to explore some movies like you're in a Blockbuster Video? Do that here. Don't want to leave the house? That's okay they have online resources for books, movies, and music too. Want to get out of the house, but aren't much of a reader? That's okay they host movie nights, LEGO club, story time, Coffee and Games, nutrition classes, and even the occasional live music. All of this from a tiny library in a small town. Even if you can't make it to this library, maybe show a little love to the one near you. One last thing, this is part of the NIOGA library system, which means if they don't have it, but one of the libraries in there system does, they will order it for you and you can pick it up and return it right to Newfane...
