A decent sized parking lot. Inside is a decently bright and clean liquor/beer/wine store. Pretty good selection of liquor. Wine selection was much less. The staff were polite. Many of the bottles were dusty and prices were $10-20 over the state minimum prices for liquor. read more

Super friendly owners and staff. It's our neighborhood liquor shop, it's nice, clean and organized inside. They have a great assortment of beers, liquors and party snacks, plus ice. It's our one stop shop for our parties and to stick up on our cocktail ingredients. It's only a few blocks away and is an easy walk and on the same side of the road as our place too. Yes, this store is open, and everyone was wearing masks. It's a fine store, pretty high end for a liquor store, not bad for craft beer store, but not great for a fine wine store. There were a couple of interesting beers here and there, lots of the Michigan breweries of course. Wine selection was more limited and nothing special. Cashier was nice. Plenty of parking. read more

I strongly recommend not shopping there. I was a regular at Wilson's for a couple of years. They do have a great selection and a nice well-kept clean store, there's no denying that. That's not my issue. My issue is that "some" of the folks there will knowingly cheat you on your bill. Many of the items are not priced, and when you grab five or six things some with tax or deposit and some without, it's hard to add up the bill in your head when you never get an itemized receipt. Well, a few totals in a row seemed to be just a little bit on the high side maybe by only a couple dollars on a $25-ish bill. Then one weekend while chatting with my neighbors we got on the topic of the local party stores, and they both specifically mentioned Wilson's employees overcharging them on their bills and so they stopped going there. I still didn't want to believe it as I had gone there for years and felt they "knew" me. Low and behold the next time I went in I bought a handful of items, paid the bill, and took off. When I got home I added up the bill, and I was overcharged by $1.50. I confronted them and he said it was a mistake and something about an item being priced wrong or it was recently on sale or something and that basically he was sorry and would make it up to me for the mistake.... Well a couple weeks later I go in, grab a few items, add the total in my head, and go to check out. He tells me the total and it was high by over a dollar. I asked him how much one of the items was and he rattled off a price, and knowing that I caught him again he immediately tried to divert my attention by bringing up one of the shooters on the counter that was so good and such a big seller and that he wanted me to try it. He says, "go ahead you can try one on me." He tried to buy me off with a $1 shot knowing that I caught him twice in a row overcharging me. I haven't been in there since. Bottom line, if you're looking for a clean store, close to downtown with a great selection and don't care how much you pay (or overpay), then Wilsons is for you. read more

Wilson Market is the best party store in the Detroit area! The owners name is Wilson and he is great! He is always working whenever I go in. He is very knowledgable and extremely helpful. He usually tells me about a special they have currently and almost always sells me on it. They also have a huge selection of craft beers from all over the world, every whiskey you could think of and a vast selection of wine from $7 a bottle - $60. The owner of this establishment goes out of his way to make sure each and every one of his customers are treated as though they are a VIP. Every time I visit, I receive a kind greeting once I enter the door. I have noticed that many of the customers are greeted by name. I am impressed with the staff's knowledge of their spirits. The selection is excellent. Some prices are high for specialty items, but the customer service makes up for this. I would rather pay a bit more for service that cares. I realize there is strong competition in this market, but I would rather drive past stores that do not cater to their customers and come here - even if it is out of the way. read more

I am not a liquor drinker, but I am a craft beer snob. Many give this place props for their storied "wall-o-liquor,' and while yes, they do have one, for a person like me it means nothing more than atmosphere and interior decorating. HOWEVER ... I can say from experience, that Wilson's has the BEST selection of craft beer that I've found in the Royal Oak area. I discovered the place when I moved to the area in late 2009ish, and though I don't go actively searching, I always know that I want to try something different (and I usually do), I go to Wilson's. One caveat: They're not always the cheapest. I've purchased sixers there and then then the next day found the same six pack somewhere else for a few bucks cheaper. But the service is good, the guys behind the counter are always nice, and if you're looking for something rather obscure (as I have), they will order it for you. I've been coming here for years and they always take care of me. When I want the newest craft brews, or the most outlying liquors, these guys have it. Not only do they have these rare items, they know everything about them. Yes, they are that good. Giant coolers and walk in coolers, multiple wine shelves stocked with items you only wish you've heard of. This place seriously has it all. Their staff is A1. I drive past 4 liquor stores on my way to this one. Even my parents shop here when they need ethanol and they don't even drink that much. These guys have hands down the best prices on rare finds and keg services. If you can't find Wilson, ask for Steve. The both of them run the liquor game like they invented it. They have become like family to me, over years of excellent pairings and impeccable recommendations there is no one I'd rather trust. Ask them about the latest craft brews coming in, trust me, they will give you an ear loads worth of informative consumer data. I cannot recommend this place enough. This was some time ago but I was looking for a particular wine which he did not have but suggested something else. I mentioned that my wife was very particular about what she drank and ensured me that if she did not like it he would refund me twice what I paid for it. He took that back and said he would just refund me. No problem with that. Well, she did not like it at all so I returned with an empty bottle and because it was empty he would not refund my money. If I was just some guy I guess I would understand but I had been going to Wilson's for years prior to that. I let him know that if he did nor honor our agreement I would not be coming back. This is my neighborhood liquor store and we have been coming here regularly since 2012. Wilson's has an awesome beer selection with different Michigan and out of state micro brews. Since we are frequent customers, we are often able to score some limited release beers without standing in a ridiculously long line. As for anything else besides beer, I really have no idea. My how times have changed.... felt the need to update a review. I was always a little skeptical after being sold a CBS in 2011 without a label, followed by some lies on the pricing for more limited items like bourbon county. If you want your cheap daily drinkers, Wilson's will take care of you. However if you want anything slightly more limited be prepared to play the variable pricing game. They once sold something to my wife and five minutes later refused to sell another bottle to a friend. Disappointing business practices overshadow the regular selection. Check out their high end bourbon bottles if you want to be gouged deeper than the secondary market. read more

Liquor stores are an interesting breed, and I'd have to imagine that to be successful at selling only alcohol, soda, candy and dirty magazines, you'd have to cater to a lot of different customers. You have your every day drinkers, those that come in after a hard day's work (or not) and get a bottle of wild turkey and a 20 oz of coke... walk outside, dump out most of the coke and fill it with turkey. There's also the weekend drinker, the person that will come in and get a case of beer or a bottle of wine twice a week. One is the lifeblood of the liquor store, the other puts the serious cash in the drawer. Wilson's does both really well and has the best liquor selection in Metro Detroit. It's literally a Wall of Liquor. It has a ladder! Like a ladder that you would see in the library of a castle, it swings around the store on a rail and they climb it to get whatever the customer needs. It's all new and recently renovated, they had to have spent in the six figures to renovate this place... it's a great spot to stop. Tell Wilson hi, he's usually manning the cash registers. read more

Crooks! My brother bought a keg with a tap from here and they gave us a broken tap. When I returned it, they claimed that they don't use the tap they gave us and it wasn't there's. Wilson's is an excellent party store. They have an abundant selection of different types of liquors such as rums, vodkas, and whiskeys. They also have a large amount of different brand names as well. The best aspect of Wilson's has to be the craft beer selection. They seem to have one of every different type of crafted beers such as stouts, ipa's, porters, pale ales, and pilsner's. This is by far the easiest place for me to stop as it is on my way home. And the choices that Wilson's Market offers is like a kid inside a toy store I get the same big smile when im at Wilson's as my nine yr old son gets when i take him to Toys R Us . The staff there are great and Wilson always has never steared me wrong with his wine recommendations . Whenever we have friends over and take them to Wilson's they are in disbelief of how great the selection of wine , liquor and beer that Wilson's offers . I can honestly say are friends are jealous that they dont have a store like Wilson's in there neighborhood . If wine or liquor is your thing selection is huge and amazing .
