I don't typically write reviews, because I simply expect good service from companies, but I felt compelled to write a review for State Fair Supermarket in Ferndale because they truly went above and beyond. I recently had a child and had an extremely limited window to find a particular and very special bottle (which was dumped from the barrel on his birthday) to open with him on his 21st. It took a lot of work to track down, but State Fair Supermarket was the only place I could find that actually had this bottle. The only problem was the store is in Michigan and I'm in Georgia. Simon was incredibly helpful and accommodating with my request to hold not just one but five of these bottles (yeah, his store got a lot of this difficult-to-find bottle) while I tracked down a friend of a friend who could go pick them up for me. This is the type of bottle that typically flies off the shelf and the fact that Simon was willing to hold these for me is really pretty amazing. Just check the store's Instagram. They get a great selection of products all the time and actually care about their customers. If I lived in Michigan, this would absolutely be my go-to store, and I'll definitely stop in anytime I find my way up there. read more

Don't be a hater! This place is perfect just the way it is. If you need a six pack, diet coke, rolling papers or gummy worms, this place is ideal. If you need meat, cheese, dog food...why are you here?!? Seriously, if you are reviewing this placed based on your ability to buy ingredients for a romantic meal, then you frighten me. It's a liquor store, folks. My expectations are appropriate. The most appealing thing about this spot is that I can walk there in less than two minutes. The guys working are pretty nice (they call me sweetie, so I'm biased) and it seems well stocked with wine and other party supplies. I think they also carry motor oil. Seriously, don't concern yourself with the sandwiches. Get your vodka and get out! read more

State Fair Market - Grocery Near Me - Ferndale, Michigan

This place is a little weird. You think it's a regular liquor store, but they have a larger selection of grocery items you wouldn't typically find in other party stores. I'm talking a cooler with pork chops and ground beef (which looks pretty grey and like it's been under-refrigerated and stored there too long). There's also an entire aisle dedicated to cheap little drug store-type toys (some w dust on the packaging) and chinse looking kitchen gadgets. While the store owners probably think they're being awesome by offering stuff other liquor stores dont, it's a fail because 1. it's all such low quality, i wouldn't dare pick up any of it, and 2. it's stuff you don't need, or come to a liquor store for. Just keep it simple guys - give us booze and snacks. Keep it simple, and do it well. I've been here a handful of times, mostly just to grab a quick 12 pack, which is hard to mess up. But most recently I was here looking for some margarita mix to go w my tequila....I left empty handed because all 4 bottles of Cuervo mix on the shelf had weird white stuff on the inside of the bottle that came off in chunks as I shook it around, and floated around in the drink. Eww. I tried to convince myself maybe it was some kind of residue from fresh lime...but they looked like they had been there for a while, so yeeeaaah. Ugh. On the plus side, the guys who are usually working there (maybe the owners?) are real friendly and cool. But they need to clean up their store. read more

This is my go to spot for beer and liquor near my house. It's just down the road and I've been a regular customer for 3 years. The guys that run the place are friendly and answer any questions that I have. They keep the shelves stocked with a WIDE variety of beer and liquor, especially Bourbon /Whiskey /scotch.They can also order anything that isn't on the shelf. I'm a big bourbon and whisky drinker, it's great to have a place close by that stocks Bookers, Blantons, Bakers and many others at a reasonable price. There beer selection includes import, domestic, and local craft( Griffin Claw, ROAK to name some). Around New Years they always have champagne deals too. I've never really bought wine or food here, not for any particular reason. I just get my drinks here. If you're local to the store, or just passing through, give them a shot for your next beer or liquor purchase. read more

This place has really upped its game from where it was four years ago. The staff is always friendly and helpful, they have a great selection of beer (craft and otherwise), their wine selection will do in a pinch and their liquor selection is nothing to scoff at. They have a little freezer section that's has some necessities, the produce section is small but has the amenities and they also have an ice cream cooler that's always stocked with good stuff if you get a hankering for something sweet and cold. I haven't had any of their sandwiches but they have a new standalone cooler for those. read more

They have a very good selection of whiskeys and bourbons. Many bottles can be had at state minimum, even harder to find bourbons. Some of the most sought-after bottles have been marked-up but are on the lower end of what other stores in the area are charging. Always feels safe even late at night. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to someone looking for good whiskey or bourbon. read more

Holy price gauging! Prices are ridiculous. When you ask the workers questions about selection, they come across extremely shady.

Couldn't ask for a better corner store. The guys who work here are friendly and knowledgeable. If they don't have what you want they're so happy to get it in stock. This place is great! I started following them on Instagram and they show a ton of new items on their page quite frequently. I got my idea to do a little Christmas shopping here for some of my friends and they did not disappoint. I always like to stop by this store because they give you a little more then they promise. First, I want to start of with the alcohol, they have a great variety of pretty much anything. What makes this store superior to all others is that they are always stocked with my favorite..ciroc. They also have some great wines. My second favorite thing about this place is that the deli sandwiches never disappoint me. They have turkey, ham, chicken, salami ( I always make sure to pick up salami with my wine), corned beef. They also have a great selection of cheese. I like to buy my cheese here because they slice it up fresh in front of me. Matter of fact.. I just made myself a great grilled cheese sandwich with bacon, both of which I picked up from the store earlier. The pop and other drinks are always the right temperature. The staff are very nice and attentive. After a while they begin to become your friends. I have yet to have been disappointed. Might I add that they sell a variety of fruits, vegetables, ground beef, pork, chicken legs/breasts, and delicious steaks. Great stop for all of my needs. Now back to enjoying my wonderful grilled cheese with bacon, and wine!! read more
