The hospitality is always nice and inviting. He has a humidor filled with the best cigar brands. I even found some obscure cigars that are no in production. On this visit, I purchased a bottle of Uncle Nearest, Nearest Green. I had seen it in advertisements and posts on socials, but this is the first store that I had been able to find it.

I was able to get my bottles of Eagle Rare 10 year and Buffalo trace bourbons here where it is almost impossible to find in most of the Liquor stores in the greater Metro Detroit area. I was also able to special order the Appleton 21 year rum here which I had been unsuccessfully trying to get for over a year. This is a very tough one get even nationally. Big Kudo's here for Sylvan Liquor for taking care of me on this one. This is a family run business where they are so friendly and helpful and clearly have made customer satisfaction a priority. No gruff unfriendly folks here only smiling happy faces where they are ready and willing to help you find the perfect liquor for you and if they dont have it, will special order it for you upon request. Unlike some liquor stores Paradise is clean and neatly stocked to help you quickly find what you are looking for. The owner is knowledgeable about the products and helpful with making a recommendation. The spirits are competitively priced maybe slightly more than other stores but worth it for the convenience. There is free parking on both sides of the building or you can park on the street.

(I don't shop here for beer... as their selection is not great). The prices aren't shocking, but they are notably cheaper than getting liquor in Royal Oak. The people who run this store are no-nonsense, but they're relatively friendly, and they seem to know the people they're serving somewhat well... I take it the same family's been running it for a while. While I was there today, I watched as one of the sellers gave a free ice cream sandwich to a little 3 year old. It's a pretty big convenience store as well, and they have the biggest collection of lotto tickets I've seen in this state. Usually a third of the people in this store are purchasing or playing lotto tickets. The place is always crowded and conversational, almost always a few drunks will be in the mix. If the aisles weren't so damned small, I wouldn't think too much of the crowds, but, you end up in everybody's face and brushing shoulders just trying to get anywhere in the store. I've never had a problem, but it's a little intense. The politics of "looking" and walking by people in Detroit is as complex a sign-system as they come, and being in Vernor Express always makes me very conscious of that fact.
