I am addressing Chronic pain that is always met with the most caring/concerned and respect for me as a patient at the Clinic. The staff is wonderful, working in that environment is most often met with patients that are not on their best behavior, in pain who can be ? The staff always remains so optomistic. I gave birth to my second child at Winchester Hospital, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. The biggest issue was the L&D & Mother/Baby unit after delivery. My newborn and I were placed in a room that was only 68 degrees. We were told there were no other rooms available, the solution was to give us extra blankets. We had to wait approximately 36 hours before we were moved to a room with an appropriate temperature. Recovering from childbirth while trying to care for a newborn in a cold room was incredibly stressful. I was also shocked by the cleanliness of the hospital. The postpartum room did not appear clean when we arrived. During my stay, the trash was not emptied daily, and the floors were never mopped. For a labor and delivery unit caring for mothers and newborns, I expected much better sanitation. While a few staff members were kind, my overall experience in both Labor & Delivery and the Mother/Baby unit did not meet the standard I expected. One experience that has stayed with me involved the nurse who introduced herself as Lindsey. She attempted to place my IV before my C-section and was unsuccessful after five attempts between both of my arms. At that point, I politely asked if someone else could try. Instead of responding with understanding, she appeared upset, gave me attitude, and slammed an item before leaving the room. It was an incredibly vulnerable moment for me, and I was shocked by how I felt I was treated. Even if a procedure is difficult, patients deserve compassion and professionalism, especially during childbirth. read more

I had a very concerning experience at Winchester Hospital when I brought my mother in with extremely high blood pressure (202/87). Upon arrival, they performed an EKG, X-rays, and blood work--but then left her sitting in the waiting room for over 8 hours without treatment or monitoring. Given her condition, this was alarming and felt unsafe. When we were finally brought to a room, we were seen by a nurse practitioner who, while polite, informed us we would not be seeing a physician as he had 12 years experience. After additional blood work, he returned and said she would be discharged if she could walk. A staff member walked her for approximately 10 seconds and cleared her. I specifically asked why she was being discharged with blood pressure still over 200, and was told she was "fine" and that her primary care doctor would need to manage it. This response was both dismissive and deeply concerning given the potential severity of hypertensive crisis. The lack of urgency, minimal evaluation before discharge, and dismissal of a dangerously high blood pressure reading left us feeling frustrated and worried for her safety. I would not expect this level of care--or lack thereof--from a hospital in a serious situation. read more

I wanted to share my recent experience so other expecting parents know what to expect. Overall, the labor and delivery room was terribly old, out of date, and dirty. The one bright spot during delivery was our L&D nurse, who was absolutely phenomenal and gave us incredible care during a stressful time. Unfortunately, things got much worse once we were moved to the maternity unit. It was the middle of December, and our recovery room was completely freezing. There was a thermometer on the wall, but it didn't work at all. The AC was blowing on us most of the night! I was so upset. The nursing staff called maintenance four separate times to fix the heating issue, but it took maintenance 8 hours to finally show up. Trying to recover and keep a newborn warm in a freezing room with zero prompt support was unacceptable. We will definitely be looking elsewhere for maternity care moving forward. read more

Went on for a totally embarrassing medical situation. Winchester Hospital had been my go-to for over almost 20 years. I was so disappointed. I will say the NP was very good but that was it. We waited for well over an hour in the waiting room but the worst part was when we were brought into a room. We were told a nurse would be in. We waited about 90 min, no nurse ever came in. I was in so much pain, had chills and was so thirsty. The NP finally came in and again, he was good. But he was the only one who cared. I'm still baffled as to why no nurse came in. Maybe they thought my situation wasn't urgent? The entire experience was so weird. When I was leaving I pretty much was on my own. The only woman I saw at the end was so cold and uncaring. The hospital is not what it was and I will need to find another facility for emergencies. It's sad to me because I'm local. I give 2 stars for the NP otherwise I'd give 1. read more

This time, the check in was fast and efficient. I woke unable to hear in one ear. (Left).No pain, just completely deaf. It was a potentially serious problem if not treated correctly. I was there in the early am Once through the door, the nurse argued with me about my need for a larger blood pressure cuff. I was surprised I was brought in quickly, and explained what I was experiencing. No pain, no fever, just sudden deafness. The PA looked in my ear, and said. 'Wow, a lot of fluid!' Told me to take nasal spray and decongestant. He called it sic RIGHT acute Serous otitis media. I did that for a day, and knew it wasn't right. Contacted an ENT, waited, then called my PCP. The suspected diagnosis was sensorineural hearing loss, confirmed by ENT. If I did what the emergency room PA told me to do, I could have had permanent loss of hearing. I am grateful I didn't agree with his diagnosis. read more

I will start by saying the nursing staff was 11/10 amazing! Fully medically knowledgeable, reliable, personable, and resourceful. I could not have asked for a better experience with them all. However, EVERY SINGLE DOCTOR was awful. They could not maintain basic conversation or understand basic concepts. I had to project manage my mother's care. My mother hit her head from a seizure (as she has diagnosed epilepsy) and had a bruise on her forehead. The doctor asked how she got the bruise. We said from the seizure and he said "seizures do not cause bruising", absolutely unable to understand a concept that someone may hit their head while convulsing. Every doctor was as arrogant and condescending, with no medical knowledge to back it up. One doctor was trying to convince me she was not having seizures, but "sun downing" despite her convulsions and 20+ year epilepsy records. How any of them passed medical school is beyond me. read more

ER is a joke. I was in incredible pain with a confirmed spinal injury. The ER staff was horrible! Another patient's wife went over got a warm blanket - 3 times. No one on the payroll did. Where are the Candy Stripers (?). 1) Give all your private information with 30 strangers sitting 3 feet away. 2)Triage nurse says don't roll in here hot. Did I mention spine injury? 3) Then they put you in the hallway where you can hear everyone's medical information. H.I.P.A. 4) I know that the Nurse Maria likes skittles. Please lower your voices. Maria comes over with hands on hip yelling at me. 5) five minutes later Dr. comes and tells me fractured spine. Ya Maria was there all nice & professional. 6) other patients wife checked on me with blankets. Said to me they treated you horribly. What is wrong with people? I was so grateful for Lorna ! Security kept walking around looking at me. Now near me (patients) are noticing Security is walking around making some Wierd faces. Third time this stop one to help me with moving. I asked is there an emergency ? Shooter or are the nurses saying I'm a bad patient. I have a spinal injury I'm not going anywhere. So sit down and let people relax a little bit. I had an early morning surgery at 7:00 a.m. at Winchester Hospital in Winchester Mass on July 13th. I got there at 6:45 and she took my driver's license and two insurance cards. She was talking to me through the window then all of a sudden she left her cabin and she came around and handed me just two cards. I didn't pay attention. I trusted her as I go upstairs to the surgery room after my surgery. When I came home I realized that my TD Bank debit card, driver's license, and Social security card were missing so I called them to report but the patients advocate. Jillian and the head of loss prevention. His name is Scott will not support me. They were siding each other and bullying me. Meanwhile, I've gone through a lot of trauma after my surgery which was 5-hour surgery. I had to call Credit bureaus to freeze my credit. Cancel all my cards. I cannot get my control medicines without my driver's license. Some friends will try to help me but the Winchester Hospital will not help me. I call senator Joe lovely's office and they suggested to file a report with police department which I have but the hospital will not help or care!! read more

Went in for my yearly wellness physical and doctor said it had been 2 years so she'd order 'preventative blood work'. My insurance covers this so I said sure. I then received a balance for uncovered services. Winchester billing tells me I should have asked for a list of what labs were being ordered and then called my insurance to make sure every one is covered. At no point did the NP say preventative lab options vary and you may want to check what I'm ordering with your insurance. This seems like a ridiculous expectation to place on patients without warning. I understand why no one does preventative visits anymore. read more

I went there for day surgery on February 12. I was checked in by a clerk who told me that my insurance was rejected, but that she would refer it to the billing office who knew "a lot more than me." We asked if there was someone who we could call and she said that they were very busy, but this happens "all the time." I was nervous about the surgery, so did not press the issue. Fast forward five days later when I received a bill for the entire amount of the surgery. I called BC/BS who were actually quite helpful, and then had to spend time on the portal and phone uploading my card and giving information. I did get a notice from them saying they billed insurance and they removed the charge from the portal. No apologies and no explanation for the stress it caused me. Staff in the beginning were great, but once you're dropped into the backrooms, you're just a number. Expect to wait several hours for anything. You'll talk to the main doctor for 45 seconds, nurses will talk about tv shows in the hallway while you just sit and wait with no context of the steps or timeline. They just reported that they earned an A is hospital safety for 22nd consecutive time. This is a complete joke! The only way they obtained this rating is due to their lies, cover-up of employee's incompetence and falsification of medical records. Last year my mom was taken to the ER for a GI bleed. Despite being 90, using a walker, and the fact that she had lost a significant amount of blood, the nurse left my mother, unattended on the commode. My mother then passed out on the commode and upon transferring her back to the bed, the nurses dropped her, dislocating her hip. The nurse then lied about this stating that she did not leave her alone, and that they did not drop her. She literally stated that in my presence that they dropped her on the side of the bed when questioned by the doctor about what happened, then, changing her "story". My mother was then admitted to the hospital, with a full leg brace, the hospital over-sedated my mother (to keep her from getting out of bed), and she was unconscious for 30 hours. While sedated, they had to suction her saliva which caused her to aspirate and led to pneumonia. We also found out the drop also resulted in a torn rotator cuff. The immobility due to the drop also resulted in blood clots. My mom should have left the hospital to go back to her condo, where she lived independently, however she was never able,to return to her own home due to their negligence. She has been robbed of her independence and the quality of life she had. I cannot express enough how much this has altered her life. While they have denied everything I was there the entire time and I KNOW and THEY KNOW what happened. They are more concerned with covering up things and and not making people accountable and training employees properly so that this wouldn't happen again. The orthopedist's office, who my mom had to follow up with told us that the dislocation could only have occurred due to a traumatic event. The hospital should be ashamed of the negligent care that they provided to my mother, but they don't care. They are more concerned with covering up and their reputation. This was a brought to the attention of Patient Advocacy which we got nowhere with as their "investigation" states the nurse said she didn't drop her. Yes, Amanda in ER you did drop her, I was there! I reached out to all senior management and never was acknowledged. They still have the audacity to continue to mail out request for donations to "thank a caregiver". What, they want me to pay them for ruining what days my mother has left? Sorry but they know what they can do with that request!! read more

I had emergency major surgery on a Sunday. The doctor was wonderful, the teams working with her were incredible. The recovery team so pleasant. They were all very knowledgeable and calming in a scary situation for me. Once in my room, I never, in 5 days had anyone get upset in any way. The staff on the 3rd floor were quick to respond, always smiling. I just cannot say enough good things about the nurses and nurses aides. The wound nurse did a wonderful job and the food was delicious. I hope I didn't forget anyone. One person, Audrey, a nurses aide, went above and beyond. She was incredibly kind to me and helped my with a shower when I was feeling down. So helped me lift my spirits. I would highly recommend read more

The floor nurses are very good. But I spent the weekend there with a very serious infection. Saw a Dr in Er for 3 minutes. Did not see one until next day at 3 pm. One more when I left. He was good dr. Infection Dr. He was smart and explained things. i was given an odd test in ER which was extremely insulted they wouid do it. I laughed at them for wasting their time. Got there at 4:15a on Friday into Saturday and was quickly triaged- testing was relatively quick (labs, CT and ultrasound done all within 2 hours of arrival. However at 7a it was change of shift and we sat in the ED until 10am! They apologized for the long wait to see a doctor and get results. Bathrooms were disgusting and they were low on supplies, no sheets or johnnies avail in my room and the rooms definitely needed a sweeping/washing of floors and walls. They do not care... don't bring your love ones are yourself to the hospital. Unfortunately, this is the nearest hospital to me. I have to bring my mother who has a severe complex case are usually basin. BMC are everything you ask of them will be a bother. They are rushing to get you out of the door from the moment you come in. They lack resources, such as MRIs, appropriate equipment for further testing, and a nighttime only have one doctor for the whole entire hospital. So if you are in pain, forget about it. Due to my mothers illness I've seen several hospitals. This by far has been one of the worst experiences. Now I'm dealing with an issue with case managers, unwilling to help me find a Rehabilitation. Honestly, I've never written a review. that's the point do not stay more than two days. read more

I was brought here with a high fever and horrible rash in my face. The ED nurse Meghan was so kind and caring, she made me a bit less apprehensive. The floor I was moved to is run by caring staff and doctors. I'm very comfortable and relieved that I didn't fall ill back in my home state. Several different doctors are involved in my care and all are personable and spend time explaining my infection, my treatment, and possible length of stay. They left no stone unturned in trying to figure out what my infection was. I don't understand the bad ratings I've seen on here. It's a shame that folks seem to be unable to communicate in anything but demanding tones of anger. I would definitely recommend this hospital. BTW, the food is also amazing especially for hospital food. read more

You might as well just hand over $500 for walking in the door to this place and that's before they order the expensive tests. My kid got sent to the ER by his doctor and now we've got a $1100 bill now for no diagnosis and the condition cleared on its own. Apparently his doctor can't be bothered to have the testing equipment in their office so we got sent to the ER. The doctor is employed by the same organization as the hospital so this is just an expensive racket where they funnel business to the ER. This is American healthcare for you. Pay a lot to the insurance company and then pay more when you actually need care since some doctor who drives a new Lexus and owns multiple homes needs to pay for the lifestyle. My youngest daughter has a GI disorder known as Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. She has been to this ER twice for this issue. The first time she had one of these episodes I was super unfamiliar with it. After bringing her into the ER I was lectured on how to properly hydrate her on hot days where she may be overly active. The second visit was months later. With episodes of less severity we had been reporting to her primary care physician and even met with a GI specialist. The second time we had to visit the ER I knew exactly what this was and was even given a list of labs to request of the ER from her specialist at Children's GI. While I understand COVID is a new concept to all, a little empathy in the nursing field goes a long way, especially in pediatrics. With her having to be in the ER for several hours while the tests were run and she was hydrated etc, I had to pick up my older daughter from a friends house in which case my mom went in to sit with my daughter. I had told the front desk I was running outside for a change of clothes for her as she threw up on herself and decided just to take my moms car and swap out with her as I knew how to get to the friends house but did not know the address so it was easier for me to go and her stay and bring in the change of clothes. This entire "exchange" of conversation and clothes took no more than 1-2 minutes. The front desk staff and the pedi nurse gave me an extremely hard time about this literal 2 minute exchange, even though I had told them I was running outside. I was called up by the pediatric nurse herself to be scolded for "leaving my daughter unattended" even when I sought permission to get the change of clothes from that exact nurse when my mother was already in the room with my daughter. When coming back, the front desk staff told me I wasn't allowed to go back to the pedi wing due to COVID rules and made me call the front desk at pediatrics to ask their permission. They gave me a huge attitude and said "well of course you have to come back. You're her mother aren't you?" As if I was unaware and wasn't halted by the COVID ER "hostess". We waited 40 minutes after discharge to have one of the nurses come back in to take out my daughter's IV, in which I ended up doing myself. There was one other patient in the pedi wing that day. On the way out she even had the audacity to ask if we were able to get the IV out okay knowing full well it was her responsibility to have done so. Hospitals will forever strike a nerve with me but Winchester even more so as 4 years ago my son was brought to this hospital with a serious brain injury from his childcare provider's home and ended up passing away at children's in Boston several days later. The doctors, nurses and staff who were there this day, were helpful and empathetic. I'm not sure where those doctors and nurses are today, but they're definitely not working peds ER, that's for damn sure. Unfortunately, after the last few visits with my daughter, I never again, will step foot in this hospital, as I'm appalled at the behavior of the doctors and nurses in their dismissive and condescending attitude accompanied by their lack of empathy whilst working with both kids and parents. read more

His pulse was 180 Last few days been having diarrhea and throwing up. Refusing fluids n food was told my his doctor to go to the er get there he had a small pee.. trace of blue on the diaper Was given Motrin (as if I haven't been giving him meds) they tried giving him cheerios apple juice water n pedialyte he refused all all he's been doing is crying. The doctor refused to do any tests refused to give an iv she said he wasn't dehydrated cause he had tears also when I complained about what can be done he's been like this since Saturday just no fevers just diarrhea n throwing up when I told her how the doctors told us to come in her response was u didn't see them so they can't determine that I was also told if a fever goes high he can't have any seizures ( so she's never heard of febrile seizure) Then she tells me to stay away from dairy but then she says try giving him whatever he wants to eat try giving ice cream and they never rechecked his pulse or fever. Meanless to say I will NEVER go there again read more

Horrifically bad ER. Would not listen to the patient and forced family members to wait in a waiting room so that no advocate was available for a senior disabled patient. Despite screaming in agony from what turned out to be a kidney stone, they refused any pain medication for an hour. Despite multiple family members trying to find out even where the patient was and the patient asking for her husband, they finally admitted her to the hospital (after about six hours) and refused to tell anybody in the family that they had done so. read more

When I had organ failure, they left me half passing out, half throwing up on a stretcher in the hallway behind the intake nurses. Ambulance brought me.from my home in Andover to Winchester Hospital. I told them I wanted to go to Lahey Hospital and they told me Lahey could not take any patients then. Winchester from now on is my hospital. The doctors and nurses are the BEST. came into the ER and it was crowded but still they took great care of me. I was admitted for 3 days and even the nurses on my floor were amazing. This is the place to go get care. The staff is kind and they take there time with you. 5 stars for helping me with and my family. read more
