What I believed happened is that you made it for the initial date and it went into the refrigerator until my wife was able to pick it up which is why the filling was black/brown. For the price and size of the cake, this was disappointing. Just sharing MY experience. Note: The slice of cake was cut the same day it was picked up. It did not oxidize instantly. Again, I appreciate the additional context, but as you can see something went wrong here.
