I have been hesitant to board my dog for years but I could not be happier with the staff here! My pup participated in board and train foundation with Kevin and she came back incredibly happy, attentive and responsive! Severe neglect and boarder line abuse. The owner seems like a great lady, very knowledge, but the idiots she employs completely tortured my dog. First, even though we completed extensive paperwork giving them instructions on how much to feed our dogs, these girls somehow thought it was acceptable to feed my 15lb shih tzu an entire cup of food TWICE a day. Of course, they ran out of food very fast seeing as he actually eats 1/4 cup twice a day. When he ran out of food, they began giving him the food they had on hand which resulted in explosive bloody diarrhea. Their solution? To lock him in his kennel for an entire day while waiting for us to come get him. By the time we got there him and all of his belongings were completely covered in bloody diarrhea. Their excuse was "he didn't feel good so we wanted him to be somewhere quiet". On top of this neglect, they also failed to properly give him his glaucoma eye drops, resulting in his eye pressure raising to THREE TIMES the safe range. Our other dog who was also being boarded there returned home covered head to toe in huge bug bites, which they tried to excuse as "an allergic reaction to shampoo". The severe lack of even basic dog care knowledge is RIDICULOUS. Do not leave your dogs with these people! read more

Update to prior experience.... after training my dog last year Carrie Hunt (the owner) has kept in touch to see how Nellie is behaving in her Seattle surroundings. When Carrie was in Seattle last week she made a point of spending an afternoon working with us on fine tuning the training Nellie had last year. Who does that??? Who takes their time to follow-up and make sure the training is holding and that we are happy and satisfied clients? I was blown away. Not only by Carrie's expertise but her genuine love of dogs and desire for them to be the best they can be. She is the best. Before you try other trainers or do it yourself training videos, just call Carrie. We had all but given up on our 'special needs' dog and could not be happier with her behavior now. I've used Wind River for both training and boarding. The dog whisperers there can teach a dog the necessary commands in nothing flat. You'll get a discount on training if your your dog is six months old or younger, and your pup will have loads of fun. All the dog barns are air conditioned and heated, and the dogs are separated by temperament so they get along with each other, running around in their different paddocks, cooling off in the wading pools, or going inside for a nap. Wind river is an excellent place to board your furry friend. It is also an exceptional place to have your dog learn manners through there training program. Carrie, the owner, has an amazing education , intuition and a gentle way with her clients and staff, Carrie is more like a 'dog whisperer' than fierce 'obedient trainer'. We ended up with a well mannered dog with spunk and vitality - she can't wait to please us. The team of care givers who work with Carrie are all excellent. Kind, gentle, and knowledgable. It is absolutely worth the drive from Missoula if you are looking for a special place to train or board your dog. I have never felt more comfortable leaving my dog for daycare or boarding as I have leaving her at Wind River. Ellie has certain characteristics that make her a bit more of a challenge than some more easy going dogs. I have come to learn that all of the employees at Wind River are completely in tune with each dog that stays there, and work hard to ensure that every detail of any special requirements are handled perfectly. Ellie has stayed there for short visits as well as several weeks at a time, and she is always excited to go. If she hears "Do you want to go to the ranch?", Ellie immediately starts wagging her tail and is eager to get to the car. Leaving your dog behind while you have to travel can be really difficult, but knowing that they will be extremely well taken care of and happy makes a huge difference. What a relief to find a place that gave me piece of mind with my two extremely active dogs. We had a wonderful weekend getaway thanks to the staff at Wind River Tails & Trails. The staff really knows what they are doing, and the accommodations for the dogs are among the best. Our dogs had a huge fenced in space to themselves along with a heated shed structure and doggy door to call home for the night. We were able to take their beds along, and that gave them a sense of home. I would highly recommend them and loved meeting Jim and Kelsey both of whom were super kind people. Everyone I spoke with before I even went to the ranch was just so easy to talk to on the phone. Wish this was everywhere. read more
