It's so peaceful here and it's right next to Rady Shell so sometimes you can hear some of the concerts while you're just hanging out. San Diego is just truly the best city in the United States. there's ample parking in the little parking area. It's about $2.50 per hour. there's a bait shop where you can also buy food and drinks. It is a smallish parking lot but it heavily utilized, particularly on warm summer days. The lot is situated in a split residential and commercial neighborhood and a block north of the main drag of Newport Avenue. The Santa Monica Avenue Beach is located right here on the other side of the parking lot and denotes the line between the surfer-only area and the swimming only area on this stretch of Ocean Beach. This is a one mile wide beach that gets a lot of visitors so parking here can many times be at a premium. The Main Lifeguard Station Parking Lot gets 4 YELP STARS for just being somewhere you can grab a spot to hit the beach. It is not paid parking, thank goodness, like so many other places and there are just 2 handicap-accessible spaces. A green grassy lawn in nearby. Attached on the side of the Main Lifeguard Tower are two public restrooms, which are really bare bones. Not too inviting to visit the bathroom here with the cold cement floors, bathroom stalls with broken doors and usually not any soap to wash your hands with. (For that, I did deduct 1 YELP STAR.) Plenty of the shelter-challenged in the area also like to congregate here. Alongside the bathrooms, near the boardwalk area, there are two outdoor showers, where you can rinse the sand off you or your surfboard. New to the Parking Lot? Electric Car Charging Stations! Not some frou-frou marina full of yachts but this place has boats that go out every morning and bring back fresh fish and is well known in the area for fresh sea urchins sold on the dock. But that is another Yelp review entirely. Had to deduct one YELP STAR because Driscoll's is hidden off North Harbor Drive. You have to pay attention and look for their sign because the place is buried behind some Navy offices and is squished in right next to the new Jimmy's Tavern restaurant. That is my big fear--that the Driscoll's Wharf area will become part of the gentrification of the North Harbor Dr. area. I am afraid that this great Point Loma spot will fall victim to the monied America's cup sailing crowd and be fancied up. Driscoll's is needed as a spot right inside San Diego Bay to unload fresh fish and for the many boat people to have a home. San Diego needs another over-priced hotel and bayside restaurant at this location, like it needs another bad mayor. In other words, it doesn't so leave Driscoll's alone!

The Good: *Flat-rate all-day Parking for only $10 weekdays--which is a steal for any major city. The Meh: *Parking is uncovered, so bring your window reflector for hot, sunny days. *Lot fills up fast from the Midway visitors, cruise ship goers and just people generally visiting the pier/harbor area. The Ugly: *Parking rate goes up to $20 for weekends and special events, but that's still pretty good, regardless. TLDR: Great place to park when visiting SD but get here early!

My cost was $30 a day for a total of $150 for 5 days (price as of November 2023). This location booked up fast and is the closest long-term parking lot to the cruise terminal. There is very limited covered parking. The parking garage is only 2 levels. All of the spaces are compact. If you have a large vehicle be aware. Many people with large trucks took up multiple spaces, and there didn't appear to be any enforcement. Are car was parked for 5 days with no issues. When we returned, we had to go to the hotel desk to show our receipt for the prepaid parking and they gave us a sticker to scan to get out of the parking lot. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR RECEIPT....if you do not have your receipt, you will have issues. The hotel doesn't appear to have an easy way of looking your reservation up, as the parking is managed by a third party. They are relying on being able to see your receipt. If we ever get the chance to cruise again, I would definitely park here again. There are many parking locations for your cruise, but the ease of being able to walk across the street to your car is so convenient.
