A downtown landmark for over 40 years, the Windbag was once a brothel but converted c. 1980 into one of the city's best casual eateries. A very interesting historic building indeed! When I lived here in the 1980s it was among our favorite places for great burgers, beer, rings and mushrooms and its killer mud pie. Returning 10 years ago the place had clearly slipped--service inefficient, food inconsistent, TVs blaring. New owners have kicked the old place back into gear. Redesigned the entire place, installing a more central bar and adding patio seating. The menu discarded old favorites but added many new ones--many solid choices now. Lots of local beers on tap. It's back to being a place to hang with families and friends. Slammed on a Sunday night servers still kept your beer filled and your food warm. Boneless wings with Jamison BbQ sauce were big hit. A group of five got a wide range of burgers and sandwiches. Everyone was happy. The Windbag is back, and I hope to stay for another 40 years read more

I've been here to the windbag saloon 3 times in 2 years and my expectations are the same. Mediocre food, lousy service. The fish was battered and cold with a side of cold garlic Parmesan fries that could have been mixed but they just sprinkled seasoning on cold fries. The clam chowder should be called bacon chowder. This place certainly has an old-timely saloon vibe and is very clean. The service was good; our waitress was super attentive. I like that they have a pretty extensive menu with a good variety of options. I had the Greek salad which is served with a light, mildly salty feta vinaigrette which I enjoyed. Stopped in the Windbag for lunch and drinks one afternoon. The space is large with plenty of high top tables and booth seating. We started off with the Brothel Bites and Fried Pickles. The bites are enchiladas, sliced then fried and the Fried Pickles are whole spears deep fried in an amazing beer batter, the latter stealing the show. For our meals we got the Fish and Chips, also dipped in beer batter, and the Gulch Burger. The burger is topped with some really tender brisket that will melt in your mouth! read more

Very busy/crowded on a Saturday afternoon, but it did not slow down the quality service. Here to watch the Griz & Cats playoff games. Decided to have a Gigantic Pretzel app before we ordered our favorite Garlic Parmesan Wings. The pretzel was as delicious as it was hefty. The Beer Cheese and Spicy Mustard Dips that accompanied it resulted in a filling and flavorful lunch...we never got to the wings. I ordered the chicken strip meal with a side salad, the menu indicated the meal included one side. It took a long time to get our food. I was served 4 small flat, overcooked or recooked pieces of chicken with a nice small lettuce salad. The chicken was cold and dried up and tough. The waitress was scarce. I was charged $3.00 for the side salad which was supposed to be included. So I paid $17.00 for what should have been $14.00 but $14.00 for the dried up chicken was even ridiculous. We came in, was offered a seat at the bar, my brother ordered a beer and as soon as I told her I just wanted a plain Shirley temple with no alcohol she just flipped a switch, also she brought me my Shirley temple in a little whiskey glass?? But she completely ignored us, never once came and asked us how we were doing or if we wanted refills etc also we ordered the nachos and boneless wings and it took 45 MINUTES! The nachos didn't have enough queso or toppings so half of it was just eating plain chips. The brisket tasted good but that's even if you got any, it was in tiny pieces and not very much on it. The food overall was mediocre and definitely not worth the price and the bartender didn't give us one ounce of attention when she found out I wasn't drinking, my brother even wanted another beer but she never came over, I also drank my 3 sip Shirley temple and wanted another one but she just walked by. Came into town late so really just a few places opened to get some drinks and food. This places is located in the old downtown. We were able to walk from out hotel. They had indoor and outdoor seating. This place was packed. There was a wait. My husband asked about sitting outside but the hostess made it sound like you couldn't ask for a section, it was whatever table was available when your name came up. Unfortunately, the beer we wanted was already out. The next one was out too. Pretty bummed because we were looking forward to trying some IPA beers. My husband ended up having to get a canned IPA instead of a draft beer. There were plenty of other bars we could have left and tried but we also needed food and other places were close serving food. My husband and I split the fish tacos. They were really good. We ended our meal with funnel fries. I loved them but my husband thought they were to greasy. Our server rocked.
