Staff: From the valets to the front desk to the maintenance workers and environmental services, every single person I encountered was lovely. 2. Location: Right in the heart of downtown Houston. 3. The fitness center: If you were like me, you've probably been extremely underwhelmed with Hotel fitness centers. Club quarters has an actual gym. I rode the peloton and got a full workout in with weights. 4. Price: for the location, you really can't beat it. 5. Recycling and their commitment to reducing waste: on every floor there reusable plastic water bottles that you can fill and they clean and replace. The shampoo bottles are normal sized. There's no single use plastics. 6. Reasonable check-in and checkout times. I'm so tired of hotels reducing that window. The drawbacks: 1. No fridges in the room. If you intend on staying for more than one day, I would recommend bringing a cooler. Unless you're going to eat out for every meal which is extremely expensive in downtown Houston. 2. No pool. I bought a day pass for the Marriott's Texas- shaped swimming pool. Worth it! Bottom line: If I ever come to Houston I would definitely stay here again.

The entry to the room was quite odd, a sort of cul-de-sac of two standard rooms whose front doors are mere inches apart. The room itself was clean. The bed was perfectly firm with large pillows. Plenty of desk space. The room did lack outlets. My husband and I had to pile our electronics to be charged all on the desk. The bathroom lacked countertop space. The shower curtain didn't really help prevent water from spraying all over the floor. The bathroom also lacks a fan so it gets really humid! The room does not come with a mini fridge or microwave. You will need to request them but at no extra charge. We really needed both but for some odd reason, both appliances had the strongest smell of cleaning agents (Fabuloso?). It was so strong that it made all of the packaging of our drinks and snacks smell like it. The remote to the TV also did not work properly: the volume button would not go down so we were stuck listening to commercials at full volume! I did appreciate that this hotel was centrally located. We were walking distance to plenty of convenience stores, restaurants, and our main reason for being in town: the start and finish line to the Houston Marathon. I also enjoyed the hotel restaurant, espresso machine in the lobby, free water bottles, and the easy, self-serve check in/out kiosks. The hotel staff was very kind and welcoming.

The first room I was given was by the pool where a group of 8 rowdy teens were screaming and having what appeared to be a great time. Unfortunately it wasn't going to allow me any sleep. I asked to be moved to another room which was granted. That room was quiet, but I was a little concerned about the cleanliness. The curtains had something brown on them... blood perhaps feces? The bathroom light turned on after about 15 attempts of me flipping the switch. The shower had decent water pressure. The bed was comfortable enough. The room is quite large and has a kitchenette. Would be nice for a longer stay if you get a clean room. The hotel is older and in much need of refurbishment. I did check out the gym which was an ok size and offering for the type of hotel.

Waffles, bagels, omelets, eggs, oatmeal, and more. They also do "socials" Monday - Wednesday night, where they have a free dinner buffet. They are not huge buffets, but considering everything in Houston is an hour away, it's nice to have when you don't feel like going out for dinner. The rooms have kitchenettes and Netflix-ready TVs. I flew into Houston for a last-minute business trip and needed a credit card authorization form processed in accordance with my company's travel policies. I understand that hotels may have procedures in place due to fraud concerns, and I was willing to work within those constraints. I even offered to personally pay for the first night while allowing time for the authorization paperwork to be completed for the remainder of my stay. Unfortunately, the interaction with Forest, the Operations Manager, became unnecessarily confrontational. Despite explaining that I am a frequent guest who has stayed at this property multiple times and spent thousands of dollars here over the years, I was repeatedly told that he did not know who I was and that the situation was not his issue. What concerned me most was not the hotel's policy itself, but the manner in which the situation was handled. When I attempted to explain that hospitality is built on relationships and guest experience, I was told I was putting too much energy into the matter and that I could take my business elsewhere. I was also told to book through Expedia or another source, despite explaining that doing so would violate my company's travel policies. The conversation ultimately escalated to the point where I was told that local non-emergency authorities would be contacted, which felt completely unnecessary and disproportionate given that I was simply attempting to discuss a business travel accommodation issue. I have always chosen this hotel because of its location, comfortable rooms, and previous experiences. However, this interaction left me feeling that guest loyalty, professionalism, and reasonable problem-solving were not valued. I hope Hilton and the property's leadership review how situations like this are handled in the future. Policies are important, but so is treating guests with respect and professionalism, especially long-time Hilton Honors members who are trying to find a solution rather than create a conflict.

The hotel itself felt very secure, even though the surrounding area can feel a bit shady at times. Location-wise, it's very convenient if you're attending an event--the arena and convention center are an easy walk. That said, walking around downtown requires some awareness, especially at night. There aren't many real restaurant options nearby, so plan on using Uber or Lyft for dining. Pricing is reasonable for a new, modern hotel in this location, and overall it was a solid experience.
