A few years ago, I had Mohs surgery on my nose at Schweiger Dermatology for basal cell carcinoma. Before the procedure, I was told I might have a scar--but what I ended up with felt more like a disfigurement (see photos. The crater on my nose is from the surgery). Right after the surgery, I was handed a plastic surgeon's business card and told I'd need reconstruction. Recently, I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma again. This time, I chose a facility in New York that has both a Mohs surgeon and a plastic surgeon on-site, hoping for a better outcome. I asked Schweiger to forward my biopsy results to the new facility a week ago. I've left multiple voicemails and emails--but haven't heard back. This is cancer, and time matters. The lack of response is upsetting and unacceptable. I wonder if they've lost my records or won't send them because I've chosen a different provider. As you may imagine, I can't recommend Schweiger Dermatology based on my experience. read more

Avoid Schweiger Dermatology - Poor Billing Practices and Cold Service I went to Schweiger twice. The first time, they resolved my scalp hair loss issue--effective treatment. The second time, I had skin tags removed. The procedure was quick and healed well, though it left a small scar. I can live with that. But the experience beyond treatment was frustrating: The doctor was clinical and brief. No real discussion, no clear explanation of what he planned to do. Just in and out. Billing was a nightmare. I paid $175 upfront, then got billed $64 again for the same visit. After submitting proof and being told I'd get a refund, I was contacted again a month later--no record of my payment, no record of my submission. I had to threaten legal action just to get someone to take it seriously. They scheduled another procedure but refused to give a cost estimate until after surgery. That's unacceptable and feels like a setup for surprise billing. I've since switched clinics. The new place is transparent, professional, and respectful. Schweiger may get the job done medically, but the lack of communication and shady billing practices make it a hard no for me. read more

I came to see Dr. Simon after recommendation from another mom for my toddler. The appointment was booked 3 weeks in advance and I reached the office at 1:10 for a 1 pm appointment. The Dr. refused to see my son even though the front desk said they had a 15 mins grace period. I understand that reaching before time to an appointment is ideal, but any clinician seeing babies/toddlers is expected to have basic empathy as babies can be unpredictable. 1 hr drive disrupting my son's nap time AND they are charging me a No-Show fees. They are friendly enough. I got a bill from this office for almost $200 and they told me it was because I hadn't reached my deductible. I paid it. My insurance, sent the EOB, covered the visit as a specialist appointment with my standard co-pay as my obligation. For my second appointment they just did the same thing. Sent me a bill in addition to the copay. Are they in network or not??? Do they participate or NOT? I went to another dermatologist and they only charged me the standard specialist co-pay. Is this just a money making scheme? If you go to their office, as an in network specialist, ask them up front what the charge will be and what your obligation will be. I thought I was getting the best, but I'm just getting ripped off... And no, the 45 seconds of the 45 minutes I was in the office that the the doctor was in the office speaking to me was NOT worth the money. read more

It is very easy to make emergency appointments, to be seen as soon as possible. It is easy to see other doctors there when needed. Do not go to this place for your psoriasis. They claim to be specialists and that they are a psoriasis center, but honestly ever since they changed to schweiger at the beginning of the year, it's turned to sh*t. I was with them for 7 years and noticed that all of there medical staff has changed, except for dr. Bagel and dr. Nieves. Mario has left, Dr. Butler is gone, and front desk and medical assistants are gone.it seems like they really don't care about their patients, but more so about making money. Way to go big pharma! They just prescribe you to whatever medication they are in business with and none of those topicals seem to work any better than using coconut oil. All injections work for about a year and then they no longer work and I've been through cymzia, stelara, humira, siliq,taltz, and tremfaya. I went with a skin irritation. Not happy with the attention given to the patient - very cursory. Post that, they prescribed medication that was not available with the pharmacy (a leading one). Despite the pharmacy asking for an alternative, they have not been responding and now it's been 3 days plus an upcoming weekend, where they get off early on Friday and naturally don't work on the weekend, that I don't have medicines. Have to suffer for 5 days and then self medicate despite going to a specialist! read more

I went yesterday with an infection. Dr Nieves came in the room, poked me 12 times with a numbing agent, poked me with something bigger than a needle several times said I will feel better soon and walked out saying come back in 2 weeks and he would call in an antibiotic. The nurse said I was bleeding and should put pressure on the wound and the Dr would come back in 10 minutes to check. And they left me there. 30 minutes later a different nurse came in wondering why the door was still closed, a little surprised to see me in there. Dr Nieves had left me in there bleeding and never came back to check on me. This new nurse got me set and good to go. Never saw Dr Nieves again and he never called in the prescription. I feel like a wasn't a big enough $ for him to give me the attention warranted. I didn't even want to go there but I couldn't get an appt anywhere else. On October 28, my wife went for a check-up office visit appointment at this practice. As she always does when making appointments, she expressly asked the office staff if their services were covered by insurance. The finance staffer lied to her by telling her that they were. It turns out that this practice operates as a Tier 2 practice not covered by our insurance. As a result, they sent us an exorbitant $157 bill on December 1. There is no way we should be responsible for this, because the practice deliberately deceived us about our insurance status. My wife would never have made this appointment or kept it if they had told the truth. It defies all logic and reason to claim otherwise, but this practice is still doing so. Pros: My skin condition improved immensely in just a few weeks and was totally gone by the time I completed the medication. Dr. Bagel was quick but thorough. He was pleasant and made sure to answer all my questions Cons: I believe customer service is part of medical care and this place is not receiving a passing grade. I showed up early for my appointment and was made to wait for a very long time and then realized at least two other patients had appointments with Dr. Bagel at the same time I did! Also, don't bother calling the office. No one answers and when they do, you will be put on hold before being told there is no medical staff available to answer your prescription question. I've been seeing Dr. Keegan for years and have been very happy. Recently, my teen started having skin issues so I made an appointment with Dr. Simon. Very nice doctor, no real complaints. (Here's where the rant begins....) The 2 star rating is thanks to Windsor Dermatology for recently pairing up with a pharmacy in Princeton. The doctor's and/or nurse's automatically send your scripts to this pharmacy. No warning. No explanation. They just come back to the room, hand you a business card and tell you that someone from the pharmacy will contact you about your script. What? Why? I literally spent 8 minutes explaining to Dr. Simon's assistant that I did not want my prescriptions to be sent to this pharmacy, I want them to be sent to the pharmacy I've used for years. Each and every time the assistant would give me a different reason why I needed to switch to the Princeton pharmacy. It was extremely aggravating and annoying to be honest. He then handed me a bottle of sample pills and told me he'd send the script to my pharmacy AS WELL AS the Princeton pharmacy which I just stated I didn't want to use. Why tho? Sure enough, the following day I received a call from the Princeton pharmacy asking for my insurance info so they can get my kid's prescription out to me. Again, I explain I do not want to use their services and AGAIN, have to go back and forth with this individual as to why their pharmacy is a better choice!!! ARGH!!! Fast forward to today.... I call Windsor Dermatology and leave a message at the nurse's station asking if a medication I use can be switched for the generic version and ask for someone to please call me back. Who calls me back? Not Windsor Dermatology! The Princeton pharmacy calls me asking for my insurance info so they can run my script through. Are you kidding me? Again, I explain I do not want to use their services and am told, again, why they are the better choice, so I tell them not to fill the script. I call Windsor Dermatology back and am told that the Princeton pharmacy is their automatic pharmacy now and, unless otherwise noted, all prescriptions are sent to them. -___- Finally had my prescription forwarded to my regular pharmacy and am currently looking for other dermatologists in the area. Not sure who's getting the commission off this partnership, but Windsor Dermatology has lost 2 patients due to it. (End rant.) read more

Financial Incentives vs. Patient Satisfaction at Windsor Dermatology: A Case Study For specialty medical practices in densely populated areas of the United States, there are significant financial incentives to overbook staff physicians and have them see patients as quickly as possible to yield the highest possible hourly revenues for the practice (Moore & Wasson, 2007). This model for running a medical practice has significant drawbacks on patient satisfaction, since patients tend to report higher satisfaction when more time is spent face-to-face with a physician during an office visit (Lin, Albertson, & Schilling, 2001). Other patient satisfaction detractors include long wait times, poor bedside manner, and poor physician-patient communication (Peer & Mpinganjira, 2011; Anderson, Barbara, & Feldman, 2007). Strategies to improve patient satisfaction include listening to and answering patient concerns with empathy and attentiveness (Clark, 2003), the practice of patient-centered care, and compassion practices (Vogus & McClelland, 2016). There are also insurance reimbursement incentives to submit CPT codes for each patient office visit as office visits with comprehensive exams, high complexity medical decision making, and the prescription of medications during the visit, even if those criteria are not actually being met during the patient interaction (Melichar, 2009). So why am I mentioning any of this? Because Windsor Dermatology has given me the worst patient experience of my life, to the point where I can remember how bad going there was years later (and it still bothers me). I came here as a teenager to find a solution for my moderately bad acne, waited over an hour (at my appointed time), had my information taken down by an office assistant over the course of 5 minutes, and then the (main) practice physician came in. He did not bother to say hello or make any small talk, he did not even make eye contact coming in and looked directly to my chart, read a few things off of it, looked up at my face for a second or two, and then reached for his prescription pad to prescribe me Epiduo, which was the new acne medication pharma reps must have been incentivizing him to prescribe at the time. This took place over the course of about 30 frantic seconds. I tried to get a question in about washing my face a certain way, and he looked up from the prescription pad and started yelling "SORRY, WHO IS THE DOCTOR HERE? IS IT YOU? OR IS IT ME? IT'S ME, RIGHT? PUT THIS STUFF ON YOUR FACE TWICE A DAY, THAT'S IT!!!!" Now that is pretty bad, certainly uncalled for. But maybe he was having a bad day, right? Maybe I can get one question answered before he leaves...? Me: "So this is like... benzoyl peroxide and -- " Main Practice Doctor: "I'M DONE HERE I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!" He trudged out the door and slammed it behind him, his dumb-looking ponytail flapping in the wind. I grabbed the prescription slip, looked at it for a few seconds, then crumpled it up and threw it in the trash. As I was walking out, one of the office staff behind the desk asked what my availability was for a follow-up appointment two weeks later. I replied "Actually... I don't need a follow-up. The front desk staff was nice and changed my profile so it had my preferred name, which everyone used! The wait time can vary a LOT; however, I waited less than 5 minutes before the assistant called me back into the room. It was only a couple of minutes before I saw Dr. Myers. I was really happy with her bedside manner. She was professional and kind, and let me fully explain my concerns without interrupting me. It was obvious that she has a lot of patience. I came as a patient once and was rushed out within 15 minutes. The medication prescribed was not in network, costing 700 dollars. I called recently to just get a refill. I had left 2 messages, called 3 times and sent an email. No one got back to me. My prescription was sent to the pharmacy and the wrong one as sent. When I called back the next day stating that the wrong one was left. I got a message back saying to call Walgreens or let them know what prescription they prescribed. Shouldn't they know? I called back, received another voicemail blaming me for not leaving the correct information. At no time was there an apology or even an acknowledgment of my frustration. I have left yet another voicemail asking for my prescription to be canceled letting them know that I am "floored" by their rudeness. I have not received a call back. read more

I had no problem with WINDSOR DERMATOLOGY. I was Dr. Stenn's patient and she was marvelous. Unfortunately, Dr. Stenn left the practice. Subsequently, I began seeing Dr. Keegan. He was wonderful. He always made pleasant conversation, explained things well and was very friendly and most importantly would assuage my fears. I made a recent appointment with him, and was brusquely told by a staff member that he had left the practice and I received an email indicating same. I hadn't received any such email. I was told that only Dr. Nieves was available to perform a biopsy I requested within the next couple of weeks. Dr. Nieves came in and introduced himself with an overly firm handshake. There was no female nurse accompanying him. I explained to him that I had a history of squamous cell cancer and this lesion presented as same. He didn't listen. He prepared a needle to numb the area, squeezed the skin around it to the extent that it was painful, gave me the injection, also painful, and said his assistant would give me care instructions. I thanked him. He rudely turned his back on me and left the room. To say Dr. Nieves has no bedside manner would be a huge understatement. No assistant came, and I walked out of the office after 10 minutes. My care directions were given by a woman at the desk. After a week I called for biopsy results. I was told it would take 2 weeks. I called exactly 2 weeks later. A medical assistant gave me the results. I thanked her. The next day another person called from the office to give me the results. I thanked her and told her I was informed of same the day before. I have an appointment with Dr. Myers next month. I heard she was wonderful. It is for a routine cancer check. I'm hoping for the best. This practice is a 5 minute car ride from my home. I go for the convenience. read more

If it was possible to give no stars, that's what I would have given. today my husband had a follow up appointment with Dr. Simone following the removal of a very large melanoma on his head. I went with him, because as the person who has been caring for it for the last 4 weeks (it is not visible to my husband), it has been a challenge to care for it due to the location and the large size of the excision site. I wanted to accompany him so that the doctor could see it and give me some help to continue to care for it, and I also wanted her to give me some guidance to be able to visualize what he can't on his body and perhaps prevent this from happening again. when we went back together the person taking us to the exam room very nastily stated that only the patient can enter. When I explained the reasons why I was asking to be present, she wouldn't budge and said it is the policy. we asked for the office manager who reiterated the same thing even tho I said that it was in the best interest of the patient which is what should be the primary concern. This practice was recently taken over by a conglomerate and apparently that's the new rule. there was only one person who wasn't rude and nasty and that was a man who was up front (wish I got his name) who kindly printed out the biopsy results so that we could take it to another dermatologist. my husband signed a medical release and we left. Terribly disappointed in what health care has become. I am a retired nurse who has worked in many facets of medical care but the one thing that always stood above all, was that the patient came first. I was seen twice at Windsor Dermatology. First by Dr. Nieves,- who answered one, or two questions- then worked his way towards the door as I spoke to him. I asked where he was going. His response: " We're done." I said, " No we're not....I have a question or two!." I got the feeling he was anxious to move on to next patient. Rushed me out. Second visit: Dr. Bagel. I made an appointment, and was called about 20 minutes later. He was very curt about answering questions, and kept looking at his watch. When I asked what the rush was- he told me he had to be at a meeting in NY. I wonder why they give you appointments- to then rush you out like a fast food joint ! He misdiagnosed me AND tried to get me to go on expensive drugs. All in about FIVE minutes time. ANYONE who has any real interest in health knows that many, many skin conditions have other causes. Extremely upset and disappointed with my recent visits at Windsor Dermatology. I wanted a mole removed off my chest for cosmetic reasons and was told it was going to be easy and that I wouldn't have any scar after the wound healed. Turns out my experience was far from "easy". After two weeks of stitches, I was told my wound didn't heal properly, so I was given butterfly stitches. When they fell off, my skin was SPLIT OPEN WIDE. I immediately called Windsor Dermatology's on call service and when I explained what happened, they tried to make me think it was no big deal and that I should let an OPEN WOUND heal on its own. I decided to get a second opinion since I was worried that my wound was going to get severely infected. I went to a plastic surgeon and they were horrified with how my skin looked. I was told that the doctor cut my chest the INCORRECT way as to why my stitches did not heal and the skin spread open. I had to be RECUT and RESTITCHED due to this ridiculous mistake done by Windsor Dermatology. I was unable to do physical activity for over a month due to pain and am now dealing with a HORRIBLE scar. I have been coming here for quite awhile. I think Dr. Keegan is excellent. I would give him 5 stars. He is very caring and patient and explains everything to you. I highly recommend him. However, the office staff brings this place way down. I find them to be very abrupt and rude, and don't really come across as caring about the patients. I understand this is a very busy office, but I think taking the time to be pleasant and caring should come with the job. To be honest, I really like Dr. Keegan, so I dealt with this aspect. This morning I called because my daughter had an ear piercing on her cartilage that seemed to be infected. I explained to the front desk that it was swollen and had a growth on the ear, along with some discharge from the ear. Dr. Keegan was not available, but I could see another doctor mid day. I explained that today was the first day of the new school year and asked if there was any way I could bring her in right after she got off the bus at 3 (an hour difference in what she was offering) No can do.... not the following day either. I would have to take her out of school. I understand it was last minute, but "emergency" appointments usually are, no? I explained that I would have to go somewhere else, and the girl so OK, and hung up. So I called another dermatologist in the area and was able to get a 3:45 appointment for my daughter. Dr Simon gave me the most through exam I have had in 20 years. She examined every inch of my body and found a suspicious which she sent to lab. Also she requested a blood test.
